EarthCam shows showers passing through Notre Dame day before game

Check out this view.

The beauty about the age we’re living in is that we can get images from angles that wouldn’t have been possible before. That includes with EarthCam, which speaks for itself.

Among those with access to EarthCam is the Northern Indiana branch of the National Weather Service. That means it can access images of weather activity at Notre Dame, where one EarthCam is set up. When they get notable images from EarthCam, they sometimes are too good not to share with the public.

South Bend had been stuck in a drought for a few weeks before it finally accumulated measurable rain again Friday. Fortunately, the rain didn’t stick around, which is good news for Irish fans who already have ascended onto campus for this weekend’s game against Miami (Ohio).

While the South Bend AccuWeather forecast calls for hot and partly cloud conditions during the game, you might be interested in seeing what campus looked like during Friday’s passing showers:

Stay dry if you’re in South Bend right now. We don’t need anyone feeling miserable ahead of the Irish hosting the RedHawks.

Former Notre Dame star Brianna Turner asked if she plays for UConn

Come on now.

Former Notre Dame standout [autotag]Brianna Turner[/autotag] has established herself during her six seasons in the WNBA. While she’s played fewer minutes this year with the Chicago Sky than she did during her five years with the Phoenix Mercury, it’s not like she doesn’t have accomplishments like two All-Defensive First Team selections.

Meanwhile, UConn is the biggest brand in women’s basketball across all levels, and the proof is there in all of its national championships. So it stands to reason for casual or ill-informed fans that any elite women’s basketball player to emerge over the past quarter-century went there or still goes there.

Turner, of course, did not go to UConn. The accolades she earned while with the Irish are too many to list, making her one of the most accomplished players ever to come through South Bend.

Apparently, some people don’t recognize this though because Turner took to social media to reveal this anecdote:

We don’t know for sure, but is it possible this person confused her with  Breanna Stewart, who’s been away from the Huskies longer than Turner’s been away from the Irish? It would be a logical explanation.

Stewart and Turner met only once during their collegiate careers, and that was when the Huskies beat the Irish for the 2015 national championship. Turner actually outscored Stewart in that game, racking up 14 points while Stewart had only eight.

The point of all this? The Huskies don’t have a monopoly on elite women’s basketball talent, hard as that might be to believe.

No rain forecast for Notre Dame’s Shillelagh Trophy clash with Purdue

Beautiful day for football.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – If you take a look at the above photo of Ross-Ade Stadium, you’ll notice it’s a beautiful day in West Lafayette. It’s a perfect indication that the weather will cooperate for Notre Dame’s renewed Shillelagh Trophy clash with Purdue. And if you don’t believe that for certain, look no further than the official AccuWeather forecast.

The forecast indicates that the temperature will hover around the upper 80s and lower 90s throughout the game under cloudy skies. But the clouds will be nothing than an illusion for precipitation.

Just for kicks, let’s take a look at what the weather will be back in South Bend during this game. The forecast calls for similar temperatures under mostly sunny skies.

The temperatures will drop into the lower 80s and eventually upper 70s by the time the Irish return to campus. Hopefully, they’ll have the Shillelagh Trophy earned via a victory with them.

Photos of Notre Dame president Rev. Robert Dowd inauguration ceremony

A day of celebration in South Bend.

Notre Dame has a long and storied history, but only three times has a new president actually been inaugurated. The latest has come with the inauguration ceremony for the [autotag]Rev. Robert Dowd[/autotag], the 18th president of the university. Though he officially assumed the role in June, he finally had a chance to bask in the pageantry that comes with becoming a new president.

The day didn’t come without some tension though. The day before the ceremony, Dowd tested positive for COVID-19. The good news is the isolation period for the disease only is 24 hours now, but he still masked up while near others indoors. It’s a reminder that illnesses can affect even the most thought-out plans.

Despite the development, it still was a day of celebration in South Bend. Hopefully, it’s the perfect stepping stone to what will be steady leadership from Dowd for many years to come.

If you missed the ceremony, here are some images of it:

Notre Dame guard Olivia Miles takes in Chicago Sky game

See what the Irish star is up to.

If Notre Dame’s women’s basketball team is going to have a successful 2024-25 season, much of it will depend on [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag]A. After missing the entire 2023-24 season while recovering from a knee injury she suffered late in the 2022-23 season, she’s ready to get back to action.

With the Irish’s first game several weeks away though, Miles simply can’t stay away from live basketball. So she figured the time was right to leave South Bend for a bit to watch the Chicago Sky host the Washington Mystics. The Sky took notice of her presence and decided to spread the word on social media.

Miles expressed gratitude and also got the chance to talk with injured Sky rookie standout Angel Reese.

The game resulted in an 89-58 win for the Mystics, but Miles got to watch two former Irish players for the Sky. [autotag]Lindsay Allen[/autotag] scored six points to go with a team-high five assists, and [autotag]Brianna Turner[/autotag] had four points while leading the Sky with three steals.

Notre Dame trying to flip to 2025 Arizona receiver commit

Will the Irish succeed here?

Notre Dame currently has two receiver commits for its 2025 recruiting class: [autotag]Jerome Bettis Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag]. One more would round that group out, and the Irish are going after someone who’s already committed.

Three-star Florida receiver Isaiah Mizell from Boone in Orlando committed to Arizona on July 10. However, the Irish apparently have reason to believe that he’s not completely sold on the Wildcats. Whatever that might be, they have extended an offer to him, so it’s now up to him on whether he wants the ditch the desert for South Bend.

Mizell took to social media upon receiving the offer and said this:

https://twitter.com/IsaiahMizell/status/1833551970105282943

And if that wasn’t enough, 2026 quarterback commit [autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag] responded to the post with the eyes emoji. One has to wonder how much of a role he might be playing in this.

While Mizell might not be the most sought-after 2025 receiver, the Irish clearly see some value in him. Let’s hope he appreciates that enough to want to go to them.

2026 Notre Dame interior offensive lineman target to visit campus

Hope the Irish can impress him enough.

Notre Dame has been a hotbed for offensive line talent in recent years. While there are concerns about that unit in 2024, the future always seems bright these days. Hopefully for the Irish, that future will include 2026 recruit Ben Nichols.

Nichols, Michigan’s No. 3 recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports, has received offers from 19 Football Bowl Subdivision programs. The Irish made their offer on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Now, he’ll be making a visit to campus when the Irish open their home schedule against Northern Illinois.

Nichols took to social media and expressed excitement about his upcoming trip to South Bend:

The Irish have some stiff competition to try and win Nichols’ services. Alabama made the most recent offer in late August. Others aiming for him include Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Illinois.

Good luck to the Irish in landing Nichols. They just might need it.

Two Notre Dame assistants meet with top-rated 2026 recruit in Indiana

Will the Irish ultimately land his services?

[autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] came to Notre Dame with the promise of recruiting heavily within the state of Indiana. Recent recruiting activity by the Irish suggests they’re living up to that promise.

The top-rated Indiana recruit in the 2025 class, Jalen Haralson, will make his official visit to Notre Dame over the coming weekend. But even if the Irish don’t win his services, they have a backup plan.

Almost a year ago, the Irish made an offer to South Bend native Steven Reynolds III, who goes to Washington and is the top-rated Indiana recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports and On3. Perhaps because of the proximity, the Irish sent a pair of staffers to follow up with him Thursday:

https://twitter.com/jakeweingarten/status/1831807542244340168

Naturally, Reynolds has offers from multiple schools. Those include Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue and IUPUI. The Irish need to take every advantage they can in their effort to land him. Hopefully in the end, Reynolds’ South Bend roots will win out.

Hotel pricing in South Bend skyrockets as Notre Dame playoff talk increases

Notre Dame has only played — and won — one game, but optimism is already spreading throughout South Bend, as evidenced by these hotel prices.

Hotels near the Notre Dame campus are already preparing for the Fighting Irish to host a game in the College Football Playoff.

Prices for the weekend of the scheduled first round are quite high, at least according to X.com (formerly Twitter) user College Football Watcher.

The first round of the CFP is set for December 20-21.

Notre Dame’s strong 23-13 win against Texas A&M on the road in a hostile environment and its two-place rise in the AP Top 25 are certainly playing a part, as are stumbles by other potential playoff teams like LSU and Florida State.

There’s a long way to go in the season, of course, so it might be too early for fans to be booking rooms in South Bend. Then again, most hotels won’t charge a credit card this far in advance, so perhaps some folks are just happy to stake a claim, just in case.

Unseasonably cool temperatures forecast for Notre Dame home opener

Dress appropriately if you’re attending.

Football in general is associated with cooler temperatures, at least in the northern part of the country where Notre Dame is located. But it usually isn’t expected to come while it still officially is summer. Yet that’s what fans attending the Irish’s home opener against Northern Illinois likely will experience.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the AccuWeather forecast for South Bend has a high temperature of 60 degrees for Saturday. Other online forecasts only have it a few degrees warmer. Temperatures aren’t expected to be that low in the area again until the latter half of October.

The good news is it doesn’t appear it will rain at Notre Dame Stadium. However, you will want to bring a jacket to combat the clouds and wind that are expected. It will feel like fall even though that season won’t officially arrive for another couple of weeks.

While the day will be cool, the Irish are hot, and they’ll look to continue that against the Huskies.
