DK Metcalf praised by teammates and coaches ahead of 2020 season

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf received praise from QB Russell Wilson and OC Brian Schottenheimer ahead of the 2020 season.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf continues to receive praise from his teammates and coaches as he heads into his sophomore season in the NFL.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has already given Metcalf the green light to critique and mentor some of his fellow players on offense and stated that he has earned the right to do so after his stellar rookie season.

”He’s earned the right to speak up more,” Schottenheimer told the Associated Press. ”Our guys on offense respect him and he’s earned that right to call guys out, and try to bring them along. And if the tempo is maybe down in practice he’s earned that right. We need his voice in that regard. That’s how much I respect him as a football player, and as a worker.”

Schottenheimer went on to commend Metcalf’s work ethic, stating that he takes something away from every single shortcoming and uses it to improve his game to be the best player he can possibly be.

”He’s obviously tremendously talented, but I mean this guy is an unbelievable worker,” Schottenheimer said. “He wants to be great. I mean he wants to be one of the best of all time. He doesn’t win every matchup. But when he doesn’t win the matchup, he takes it personally and he doesn’t shy away, he wants to jump back up there.”

Metcalf was often overlooked prior to his rookie season, but soon quelled doubts about his route-running. He now has expectations on him to make a second-year jump as one of the key cogs in the Seahawks offense in 2020. Time will tell if he will answer the call, but it will certainly be exciting to watch.

Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.

Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.

Today, we will be looking at sophomore Jack Byron Vaughuns.

Bryon Vaughns, Jack

Height: 6-4 / Weight: 225

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

High School: Eastern Hills

HS ranking (247Sports): Three-star / No. 31 position / No. 55 in-state

Analysis: A new position in Chris Ash’s defense, the Jack position could change Texas’ defensive line struggles. Joseph Ossai is the no-doubt starter but his backup will be sophomore Byron Vaughns.

Coming out of Fort Worth, Texas, Vaughns played in the final 10 regular-season games. He had 14 tackles throughout the year and 10 of them were solo tackles. Unfortunately, Vaughns did not get to participate in the bowl game against Utah as he was sent home.

The defensive line was the downfall of the Longhorns’ defense last season. With Chris Ash implementing the Jack position, the pass rush will significantly improve. When Ossai is on the sidelines getting a rest, Vaughns will have to fulfill a key position for Texas.

High School: Temple

HS ranking (247Sports): Three-star / No. 39 position / No. 112 in-state

HS ranking (Rivals): Three-star / No. 20 position / No. 59 in-state

Analysis: Tight end has been a position of struggle under Tom Herman and Jared Wiley is expected to help in 2020. Playing in 12 games last season, Wiley is ready to have his role expanded this season.

Coming out of high school, Wiley played for Texas High School Football powerhouse Temple. During his freshman season, he played in all 12 games, getting his first career start against Baylor.

His one career catch came in the season finally against Texas Tech, going for 15 yards. Not utilized much last season, Mike Yurich has discussed how important the tight end will be under his offense. Wiley should become a more frequent target for Sam Ehlinger.

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Height: 6-1 / Weight: 212

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Lakewood, California

High School: Mayfair

HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 192 overall / No. 17 position / No. 24 in-state

HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 154 overall / No. 14 position / No. 24 in-state

Analysis: Going into the 2019 season, there was speculation that Adimora was going to take a redshirt season and only play in four games. He impressed everyone in practice throughout the year that he was able to play in all 13 games.

Playing on both sides of the ball in high school, Adimora has developed great hands from his days as a wide receiver. Possibly playing some nickel back this season, he could find himself snagging an interception or two.

If Tom Herman and Chris Ash want to use him at free safety, Adimora can use his range and athleticism to fly across the field. The possibilities with Adimora are endless and it makes him a valuable asset to the Longhorn secondary. If any problems arise via injury for Texas this season, Adimora will be a suitable replacement.
