NFL power rankings: Cowboys make a statement on ‘Sunday Night Football’

Following their big win over the Eagles on ‘Sunday Night Football,’ the Cowboys are ranked No. 2 in NFL power rankings this week.

The Dallas Cowboys (10-3) made a statement with their 33-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles (10-3) on Sunday Night Football in Week 14.

That victory gave the Cowboys a boost in our NFL power rankings this week, but the San Francisco 49ers (10-3) remain ranked No. 1 for at least one more week.

Elsewhere in the NFC, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-7), Atlanta Falcons (6-7) and New Orleans Saints (6-7) are in a tight race in the NFC South. The Bucs hold the tiebreaker at the moment.

Over in the AFC, the Denver Broncos (7-6) are now just one game behind the Kansas City Chiefs (8-5) in the AFC West, and the Houston Texans (7-6) and Indianapolis Colts (7-6) are keeping things close with the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-5) in the AFC South.

Note that these rankings are being published before the Monday Night Football games featuring the Miami Dolphins (9-3) vs. Tennessee Titans (4-8) and Green Bay Packers (6-6) vs. New York Giants (4-8) in Week 14. The Dolphins and Packers would both make significant drops in the rankings if they are upset on Monday.

So, with two games left to play, here are our NFL power rankings after (most of) Week 14 has wrapped up.

Denver Broncos 2023 Schedule

The Broncos have five games left to attempt to get into the NFL playoffs.

The Denver Broncos are set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14 in a showdown with big implications in the AFC playoff race.

The Broncos are set to travel 19,930 miles this season and face the 12th-hardest strength of schedule in the league. Before any flexes, Denver’s initial schedule includes four prime-time games.

The Broncos will play nine games at their home Empower Field at Mile High Stadium this year and eight games on the road. Because the league has an unbalanced 17-game schedule, the NFC and AFC rotate between having an extra home game. This year, the AFC gets a ninth home game.

Broncos defeat Vikings 21-20 on ‘Sunday Night Football’

The Broncos have won four straight games and now are back in the playoff hunt!

The Denver Broncos defeated the Minnesota Vikings 21-20 in a Sunday Night Football showdown in Week 11. With the win, Denver improved to 5-5 and kept its playoff hopes alive.

Denver’s defense started the game with a takeway when outside linebacker Baron Browning forced a Josh Dobbs fumble that was recovered by cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian. Set up with good field position, the Broncos went on to kick a field goal to take a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The Vikings later went up 7-3 in the second quarter after Dobbs made an impressive play to find Josh Oliver on a three-yard touchdown pass. After Minnesota added a field goal to make it 10-3, Denver later kicked a pair of field goals to make it 10-9 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Dobbs rushed for a 10-yard touchdown to increase the Vikings’ lead to 17-9. The Broncos added a field goal in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 17-12.

Denver later kicked yet another field goal after a McMillian interception to reduce the deficit to 17-15. Minnesota then matched that field goal to make it 20-15.

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson then led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton. After failing a two-point attempt, Denver led 21-20 with just over one minute remaining. The Vikings went on to turn the ball over on downs, sealing the game.

Up next for the Broncos is another home game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 12.

Twitter reacts to Kareem Jackson hitting Josh Dobbs with his helmet

Kareem Jackson will probably be fined again — and maybe even suspended — after his hit on Vikings QB Josh Dobbs on Sunday Night Football.

Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been fined four times for unnecessary roughness this season and he just served a two-game suspension for being a repeat offender.

After returning from his suspension this week, Jackson said he would change the way he plays to avoid future fines and suspensions.

In his first game back from that suspension, however, Jackson launched himself into Minnesota Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs on Sunday Night Football. The play was not penalized on the field, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the safety is fined again — and perhaps even suspended again.

Here’s a sampling of how Twitter reacted to Jackson’s latest big hit.
