Celtics alum Ray Allen on why he chose his first shoe deal over others between FIBA and Jordan Brand

The former UConn standout shared a formative moment when a company tried to aggressively push him to ink a shoe deal.

When it comes to the intense pressure that followed young NBA prospect Jesus Shuttlesworth around like the plague in the classic basketball film “He Got Game,” Boston Celtics alum Ray Allen only needed to draw on his own personal experiences to make his role as Shuttlesworth seem true to life.

Recently, in an interview with fellow Banner 17 titlist James Posey on his “Posecast” podcast, the former UConn standout shared one such formative moment, when FIBA tried to aggressively push him to ink a shoe deal with Allen at the same time he also had a deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand.

The push would help shape his decision, and the reason given for the company he ended up choosing, for the onetime Celtics sharpshooter, was simple.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear why Allen ultimately elected to pick the shoe company he did while a rookie in the league.

Jayson Tatum reveals playing through hand injury, leaked shoe image fake

The Celtics star was in a revelatory mood after helping dispatch Brooklyn Thursday.

For star Boston Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum, his postgame media availability after Boston’s win over the Nets on Thursday was dually revelatory. On the more serious side of things, the Duke alum shared that on top of his chronic wrist issues, he has also been playing through what sounds like a minor if nagging hand injury as well.

Referencing his wrist, Tatum shared via CLNS Media that he has had “issues with my thumb and recently my ring finger” he has been taping up to help ease the discomfort. The St. Louis native also spoke about the leaked images purporting to be of his new signature shoe, which Tatum suggested were not the finished product that will hit the stores soon.

“Truthfully, that’s not the real picture,” he explained. “I’ve seen the not-real version that came out today.”

“The kid in me wanted to post the real picture, but I’m excited I’ll be wearing them very soon,” he added. “But that’s not exactly how they look.”

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Authenticating the ‘Silver Bullet’ Nike Air Max 97s was equally terrifying and an absolute blast all in one

Today’s episode of Special Delivery was a WILD ride

Authentication is one of the pillars of the sneaker world today and for good reason.

There are lots of fake sneakers out there and, in many cases, they look like legitimate pairs to the naked eye. The materials won’t be the same, but they’ll be completely passable.

It’s easy for someone who isn’t as invested in the world of sneakers to be fooled by a replica. That’s why the market for fake sneakers is estimated to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

We’d thought we’d gotten got when it came to a pair of Air Max 97’s purchased early on the secondary market for an episode of Special Delivery. So when the crew traveled to San Jose for SneakerCon, one of our main goals was to get the pair authenticated.

We did. The results were interesting. But the process leading up to it — the tense moment of truth — was hilarious while also being terrifying.

Tap in to this week’s episode of Special Delivery to see the results and learn more about authentication.

Boston’s Grant Williams talks about his next contract, Jordan Brand shoe deal and more

“(No extension) is a disappointment, but you know how much you’ve worked,” explained Williams. “You may be able to get a better deal.”

The Boston Celtics and reserve forward Grant Williams were unable to come to terms on a rookie scale contract extension for the former Tennessee standout this offseason. However, fans of the team (and Williams) ought not to worry, which the former Vol underscored in a recent interview with Stadium’s Shams Charania.

“(No extension) is a disappointment, but you know how much you’ve worked,” explained Williams. “You may be able to get a better deal.”

Some worry the Charlotte native might price himself out of Boston’s spending range with a standout season on his resume in 2022-23.

But, there is limited cap space to burn above the full midlevel exception around the NBA, and Williams is a restricted free agent. If he does put up the sort of numbers that would get teams into a bidding war, that’s a problem the Celtics likely would love to have.

Even so, Williams was likely right to bet on himself, which he explains along with conversation on a new shoe deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand and more.

Get a sneakerhead point of view on the Duke alum’s ties to Nike and those who live for fresh kicks.

Superstar Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has a secret pair of sneakers stashed in his house. They do not have magic powers or anything like that to the St. Louis native. They are an unreleased design that will one day hit sneaker retailers around the world as a result of his ongoing partnership with Nike’s Jordan Brand.

In a recent interview with the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Jason Bensinger” show, Tatum spoke about his ties to the popular shoe company, his relationship with senior color designer Kelsey Amy to reflect his personal touches to the shoes bearing his name, and plenty more you never knew about being a signature sneaker athlete.

Tatum is to get his own signature shoe line, the Jordan Tatum 1, in three distinct colorways with a planned release date sometime in summer 2023.

New Celtics-inspired Air Jordan 1s to be released in summer 2023

Nike is expected to release a Celtics-inspired pair of Air Jordan 1s in summer 2023.

The world’s most popular sneaker brand Nike is set to offer a new Boston Celtics-inspired re-release of the iconic Air Jordan 1 sneakers in the summer of 2023 according to the site SneakerHeadz. This news comes shortly after an announced collaboration with Jordan Brand and star Boston forward Jayson Tatum to release the St. Louis native’s first signature shoe line.

The Celtics’inflected Air Jordan 1 sneakers will feature the iconic white and green colorways of the Celtics with striking black Nike swooshes and uppers. The shoes will reportedly retail for $180 USD. The sneakers are meant to be a nod to Michael Jordan’s 63-point game against the Celtics in the 1986 NBA playoffs.

The otherworldly performance from a young MJ led to Boston icon’s Larry Bird’s immortal quip, “that was God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

Jordan Brand to release signature shoe for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum

The kicks are set to drop in summer 2023 and come in three colorways.

We don’t yet know what they look like, but star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is getting his own signature Jordan Brand shoe line in three colorways sometime in the summer of 2023 according to new reporting from Sole Retriever’s Nicholas Vlahos.

The three colorways only have names for now, but given they have been granted their current sobriquets for things dear to the Celtics star’s heart, we can use our imaginations until the actual product drops next year. Officially dubbed (at least for now) the Jordan Tatum 1, the shoe’s trio of colorways are to be named “Zoo,” St. Louis,” and “Pink Lemonade”.

The shoe will be available for purchase upon its release next summer at Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers in-store and online and will be available to the entire family in terms of sizing.

The current estimate of the retail price for Tatum’s signature sneaker is $120.

Adidas CONFIRMED’s Yeezy Foam Runner launch was a disaster and people are upset

Wow this was bad.

Normally, it’s Nike’s SNKRS app that gets the full wrath of sneaker Twitter on release day. But on Thursday? The blame shifted squarely on to Adidas’ new CONFIRMED app.

Think of CONFIRMED as their response to the SNKRS app, but with a bit more weekly content to go along with their sneaker releases. Sounds pretty nice, right?

On Friday, it was not. Sneakerheads everywhere were preparing to go on the app for the new Yeezy Foam Runners — slide-on clog shoes from Kanye West.

What they ran into were all sorts of troubles with the app and absolutely not a single sneaker to show for it.

Sneaker Twitter was highly upset.

Kobe fans were mad at Nike’s SNKRS app after they couldn’t get the Kobe 6 ‘Grinch’ on Christmas Eve

Not again.

Sneaker heads and Kobe Bryant fans are upset on the internet once again.

Remember how, back in August during Nike’s Mamba week, they were furious they weren’t able to buy shoes from Bryant’s signature shoe line on Nike’s SNKRS app? Well, it’s happened again.

This time, it’s the Kobe 6 “Grinch” colorway causing the problems. This is the first time the colorway has dropped since 2010 and it was only announced a few weeks ago that they’d be coming on Christmas Eve.

Kobe fans and sneakerheads were all excited to maybe finally get a chance to purchase a pair of shoes — not just to wear, but to remember their fallen idol by after his tragic passing earlier this year. To bring back a bit of nostalgia. After all, this might be the greatest Christmas sneaker ever.

Instead, when the time came, they took a ton of L’s. The shoes were gobbled up by resellers in literal minutes. Fans were highly upset about it.
