LOOK: Motion graphic tracking Emmitt Smith, Dez Bryant, Michael Irvin ascend Cowboys all-time TD chart over time

An interesting look at the Cowboys’ all-time TD leaderboard.

There’s no NFL organization quite as great as the Dallas Cowboys… just ask Jerry Jones. Seriously though, over the years the Cowboys have had a remarkable run of top-shelf skill position players who have earned they way into the history books. The Cowboys have a whopping 30 players or coaches currently enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH and many of them are there for their ability to get the ball in the end zone.

Related, the club’s 64-year history has seen a steady stream of players move in and out of the franchise’s all-time touchdown leaderboard over the years. There are quite a few outlets where one can look through those names, but why limit the fun? Content creator Greg Harvey (@BetweenTheNums on Twitter/X) has produced a motion graphic showing the fluidity of the team’s leaderboard over the years.

From Frank Clarke to Bob Hayes to Tony Dorsett to Emmitt Smith, with Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant getting their time near the top… it’s a laundry list of who’s who among pass catchers and running backs in the organization. Check it out below.

Inside The NBA hosts trolled Charles Barkley’s plan to give up Diet Coke by raiding his stash

How long can Charles Barkley stick to his New Year’s Resolution?

Charles Barkley had a simple answer when he was asked about his New Year’s Resolution. He said that he planned to give up Diet Coke.

Barkley has a long history of drinking the beverage, including before NBA games during his professional playing career. The former MVP has said he would have two McDonald’s fish fillet sandwiches, a large order of fries and a Diet Coke as a pre-game meal.

Now when hosting Inside The NBA on TNT, Barkley will occasionally drink Diet Coke out of a mug while on the air. So to help him reach his resolution, Barkley received a hand from his co-workers.

The hosts of Inside the NBA had enough of Barkley, who complained that water (his Diet Coke substitute) doesn’t taste like anything.

Shaquille O’Neal made his way over to Barkley’s side of the desk and raided his Diet Coke supply. He found Barkley’s stash and began opening them up, drinking them and handing them to Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson.

Barkley wanted to know if his co-hosts at least felt his pain as they sipped on the soda and he then told the viewers to his their enemies close to them.

We will see how long Barkley can stick to this resolution of no Diet Coke!

Four former Packers make PFF’s top 30 players over age 30 list

Four of the best players in the NFL over the age of 30 are former Packers. The current Packers roster has only three players over 30.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former members of the Green Bay Packers make up a decent chunk of PFF’s recently constructed list of the top 30 players over the age of 30.

Receiver Davante Adams (No. 4), quarterback Aaron Rodgers (No. 9), outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith (No. 19) and center Corey Linsley (No. 26) — who all departed Green Bay in the last two years — landed on PFF’s list.

Linsley left in free agency following an All-Pro 2020 season, Smith was released in a cap-saving move following the 2021 season, Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first- and second-round pick and Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets for a second-round pick, a conditional 2024 pick and a swap of first-round and Day 3 picks.

Contractual or money problems played a role in the departure of all four players.

The Packers have only three players over the age of 30 on the roster and did not have a current player make PFF’s list. Left tackle David Bakhtiari was an honorable mention pick. The only other options were outside linebacker Preston Smith and punter Pat O’Donnell. Bakhtiari remains an elite left tackle when healthy but likely got dinged for his injury history over the last two seasons.

How did the Packers replace elite veterans?

Josh Myers was drafted in the second round of the 2021 draft and has been the preferred starter at center over the last two seasons. 2022 fourth-round pick Zach Tom is another option at center entering 2023.

2019 first-round pick Rashan Gary moved into Smith’s starting spot and became an elite disruptor, while Lukas Van Ness is a 2023 first-round pick to develop behind the veterans at edge rusher.

The Packers used one of the draft picks acquired in the Adams trade to move up in the second round of the 2022 draft to take Christian Watson, who scored nine touchdowns during his rookie season and is entering 2023 as the unquestioned No. 1 receiver in Green Bay.

And, of course, Jordan Love was selected with the 26th overall pick in the 2020 draft. He sat behind Rodgers for three seasons and will now start in 2023.

All great teams need elite veteran players. Replacing them is one of the biggest team-building challenges in football. Whether or not the Packers remain one of the NFL’s model franchises will depend on how well Matt LaFleur’s team rebounds from the experience and talent drain of the last few years.

The top player over 30 years old according to PFF is San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams. The reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles had a league-high four players on PFF’s list.

Stephen A. Smith says Sixers shouldn’t give star Ben Simmons to Nets

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says it would be stupid if the Philadelphia 76ers sent Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets.

As the trade deadline continues to approach quickly, the Philadelphia 76ers have a decision to make when it comes to Ben Simmons. While the organization would like to move him before the deadline with their eyes set on James Harden, there are some questions they need to answer.

If the Sixers move Simmons for Harden, they will be giving their conference rival–a team they will be fighting with to make the finals–an elite defender an elite playmaker. While Harden will fit nicely next to Embiid on the offensive end, the Sixers will still be giving up a big piece to the Nets.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith broke it down and he said it would be a very bad move on Philadelphia’s part:

I think that if Daryl Morey traded Ben Simmons to Brooklyn, it would be one of the stupidest things that he has done in his career. I really do. In my opinion, there are two teams, and one of them is not even an issue because they don’t want Ben Simmons, they’re fine with what they have, but there are two teams that you don’t put a Ben Simmons on. It is Golden State and it is Brooklyn because those are the two teams where his skill set, what we lament about his lack of shooting ability doesn’t apply. Everything else that he does, particularly his stoutness as a defender, I voted for him for Defensive Player of the Year last year, Ben Simmons with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in Brooklyn not just the same conference within the same division as Philadelphia. He would be a roadblock and an impediment to Philadelphia for years. Now, somebody might figure out how to beat them, but I’m talking about strictly Philadelphia. Brooklyn would be standing in their way because I don’t believe an Embiid with a Harden beat a KD, Kyrie, and Ben Simmons. I don’t believe that. I believe Brooklyn would perpetually stand in Philadelphia’s way. You don’t trade up a Ben Simmons to Brooklyn. You trade them out west or you trade him to some team that ain’t going no damn place, but you don’t trade him to Brooklyn. You don’t do it.

Smith has a point here. In Brooklyn, all Simmons would have to do is bring his elite defense and playmaking and let Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving do all the heavy lifting on the offensive end. As Durant and Irving have proven, they are able to do so. Simmons would fill a role similar to Draymond Green and he would make life miserable for the Sixers in future matchups.

Falcons HC Arthur Smith on Cordarrelle Patterson: ‘He’s a warrior’

The team’s do-it-all weapon quickly reminded why he’s the NFL’s most valuable free-agent signing with 108 rushing yards and two TDs.

It’s amazing the difference a week can make. Following two straight losses in which the offense scored just three points, the Atlanta Falcons got back on track with a 21-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Running back Cordarrelle Patterson returned and played his best game of the season — which is saying a lot. The team’s do-it-all weapon quickly reminded why he’s the NFL’s most valuable free-agent signing with 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

After the game, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith had nothing but praise for Patterson, while also complimenting linebacker Mykal Walker.

Jaylon Smith officially signs with Packers

How is this for a landing spot?

Former Notre Dame star Jaylon Smith was released earlier this week by the Dallas Cowboys but wasn’t out of work long.  After speculation Wednesday had him connected to the Green Bay Packers, Smith officially signed with the organization on Thursday.

Smith will wear number nine for the green and gold and make his Packers debut on Sunday as Green Bay travels to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Next, Diggins-Smith collected her fourth All-WNBA honor, previously being named in 2014, 2017 and 2018. The 5-9 guard, who did not play in 2019 following the birth of her son, averaged 17.7 points (seventh in the WNBA) and 4.2 assists (10th).

Jaylon Smith Helping Notre Dame on Recruiting Trail?

Is a former Notre Dame star trying to help the Irish keep a commitment committed to ND?

Jaylon Smith is as talented of player as we’ve seen at Notre Dame at any position in recent memory.

The former Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top linebacker is now a Dallas Cowboy but hasn’t forgotten about his college whatsoever as he seems to be trying to help Notre Dame’s case for a current commitment.

David Abiara is a senior to be from Texas and a current Notre Dame commit.  He did however have reports circulate that he was nearing flipping that commitment to Oklahoma recently.

Smith took to Twitter to try and at least work some magic in the pursuit of Abira it would appear.

So maybe it wasn’t the most earth-shattering of tweets but it was compelling nonetheless to see one of Notre Dame’s biggest stars in recent memory reach out to a potential future Irish defender.

Will it help?

Who the heck knows but I’m certain at this point it won’t hurt.
