5 hysterical Marshawn Lynch moments from him calling SlamBall games on ESPN

Marshawn Lynch broadcasting SlamBall games is as hysterical as it sounds.

Is there anything former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch can’t do?

He’s an NFL veteran. He’s an actor. Now, he’s a SlamBall broadcaster .

He’s expanding his wide array of talents to the broadcast booth as he provided commentary during ESPN’s airing of the SlamBall finale on Thursday night was as electric and gut-bustingly hysterical as you could imagine.

On one clip, Lynch found a phenomenal way to incorporate none other than Sonic the Hedgehog into one of his broadcast moments of one player knocking another on their rear end.

It really was absolutely glorious and the kind of signature moment you’re only going to get from Lynch.

You can check out that brilliant Sonic-inspired call and four other Lynch highlights below.

SlamBall founder Mason Gordon on why the timing couldn’t be better for the trampoline hoops sport to return

SlamBall is finally back, folks! Founder Mason Gordon tells us why it’s the right time for a return.

Let me start this off by making one thing clear: I am a millennial.

As a millennial, I’m very confident in saying this. There’s a specific bag that we all love to dive deeply into. That bag is filled with never-ending nostalgia.

There is nothing we love more than the good old days. when, well, life was simply easier. We didn’t have bills to pay or jobs to worry about. The news didn’t always seem bad and social media wasn’t a thing yet. The dopamine hit we get yesteryear pops up is truly undefeated.

Anything that can take us back to that time? We are pouncing on it. Immediately. Our lives are basically that one Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme.

There’s going to be a whole lot of that pointing come July 21 when SlamBall makes its return.

If you’re under the age of 25 years old, you’re probably asking “What is SlamBall?” right now. Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. It’s the pseudo-sport turned real sport that captured the imaginations of pre-pubescent teens (like myself!) everywhere back in the early 2000s.

It’s so fascinating. It’s quite literally a mix between football, basketball and hockey. There are trampolines involved. There’s also a cage.

Here’s what that looked like.

Yup. It’s completely ridiculous and over the top. And, yet, we all loved it so much. We still do. That’s why so many people have been clamoring for its return for years.

Now it’s actually coming back. SlamBall will be making its return on ESPN later this week on July 21.

For The Win sat down with SlamBall Founder Mason Gordon to talk about the return, what makes this time different than the last and why the time is right for the sport to blossom as a league on its own.

What follows is that conversation. Enjoy!

SlamBall, the early-2000s trampoline basketball phenomenon that’s coming back, explained

SlamBall is finally coming back and it might actually work this time.

Every millennial remembers staying up those late nights during the school week just to turn on SpikeTV and watch a bit of SlamBall.

For those of you who don’t remember, SlamBall was that weird — but fun — trampoline spot that somehow served as a cross between football and basketball.

It looked extremely dangerous, but let’s be honest. It’s every kid’s dream to jump off of a trampoline and dunk. SlamBall brought that dream to life in 2002 and 2003 before it shut down.

For those of you who might not be hip and wondering what in the world it is I’m talking about, here’s what that looks like.

Wild, right? The sport shut down after 3 full seasons spread between 2002, 2003 and 2008. Now, it’s finally coming back.

Last year, SlamBall founder Mason Gordon told TMZ Sports the sport would be returning in the summer of 2023. It’s happening this July, according to Front Office Sports, with a six-week regular season and a one-week playoff in Las Vegas.

The question is how’d we get here? Let’s go over all of the details we know.

SlamBall will return this summer, with Celtics big man Blake Griffin cited as key investor

SlamBall is set to return this July. Credit Blake Griffin with the financial assist.

Boston Celtics veteran Blake Griffin has always had an eccentric life away from the basketball court. He’s dabbled in acting, in philanthropy, and in stand-up comedy since joining the NBA in 2009. Helping bring back SlamBall, however, might be some of Griffin’s most exciting work.

According to Front Office Sports, Griffin is among the initial investors resurrecting SlamBall this summer. A form of high-impact basketball played on trampolines, professional SlamBall was a cult favorite in the early 2000s. Though it aired for just two seasons between 2002 and 2003, SlamBall was a captivating and dazzling spectacle. And thanks in part to Griffin, it’s back.

A strong social media campaign helped launch the reboot, according to league co-founder Mason Gordon. He told FOS fans’ collective excitement for bringing SlamBall back informed the new venture. “This is a true Cinderella story — only with helmets, pads, and trampolines.” Gordon said.

That’s Mason Gordon, founder of …

That’s Mason Gordon, founder of SlamBall — basketball mixed with football and MMA on big trampolines — announcing to TMZ Sports … the sport is returning in 2023! “There have been all kinds of people clamoring for SlamBall to come back. There has been #BringBackSlamBall media, viewed over 200 million times in the last 12 months. So, I’m ready to announce next summer, 2023, SlamBall is coming back, live!”

SlamBall, the high-flying and hard-hitting trampoline-infused basketball game, is coming back in 2023

Prepare yourself for lots of dunks, hits and bad knees.

To all of my people who grew up as a kid or young adults in the 2000s — are you ready for this nostalgia?

SlamBall is back!…Almost.

The highly-entertaining cross between basketball, football and extreme trampoline bouncing is set to make its return during the summer of 2023, SlamBall founder Mason Gordon told TMZ Sports.

The SlamBall league was last around in 2008, so 15 years later, it’ll be interesting to see what changes in rules, style and officiating we might see during gameplay.

But until that summer of 2023, we wait. In the meantime, here are some of the very best SlamBall highlights from years past.

From a betting perspective, the prop opportunities are endless here and we will absolutely be taking them all.

This sport can’t come back soon enough.
