Alabama shifts focus to 3-star TE Danny Lewis on signing day

Can Nick Saban and Pete Golding steal another coveted Louisiana kid?

The class of 2022 saw Nick Saban and Alabama put a great emphasis on the tight end position. According to On3 the Tide has already secured signatures from the top-ranked tight end prospect in Amari Niblack as well as the sixteenth ranked tight end in Elijah Brown.

However, during the early signing period, the Tide did lose out on another talented tight end prospect in Jaleel Skinner who inked with Miami. So that meant Saban and his staff would have to search elsewhere for another tight end’s signature.

In true Saban fashion, Alabama has shifted its focus to a rising three-star tight end prospect out of the state of Louisiana in Danny Lewis.

Standing at 6’5″, 230 pounds, Lewis has the ideal frame to develop into a solid contributor at the next level. That is why he also carries offers from LSUFlorida, Cincinnati, and Indiana.

Right now Alabama looks like the favorite to land the talented Lewis.

Lewis is set to make his announcement at 1:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Alabama commit Walter Bob will attend JUCO before joining the Tide

Four-star defensive lineman Walter Bob will head to JUCO before joining the Crimson Tide

According to multiple reports, the long-time commit for the class of 2022, Walter Bob, will not be signing with the Tide this week during the February signing period.

Bob will first attend junior college at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas where he will be for the next two and half years. Bob has been enrolled at Hutchinson since Jan. 7. Bob is expected to join the Tide once his academics are in order.

According to the report from the Tuscaloosa News, Nick Saban and the staff has known about Bob’s situations long before he committed to the Tide in February of 2021.

Alabama was the first Power 5 school to offer Bob a scholarship.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Walter Bob’s status throughout his JUCO career.

Wisconsin football officially signs its class of 2022

Wisconsin football officially signs its class of 2022

Today marked the start of the official signing period in college football, a time when committed and uncommitted recruits alike sign their national letters of intent to attend whatever school.

Wisconsin had 13 commits entering today and received signed letters from all 13. This is not the final product of its 2022 recruiting class, though it was positive that there were no unexpected last-minute changes.

Head coach Paul Chryst met with the media today and said there is more work to be done in the class, pointing towards the transfer portal and a few uncommitted recruits as the focus.

Here is Wisconsin’s complete 2022 recruiting class as of early signing day:

Notre Dame Commitment Card: Nolan Ziegler

Gold and blue through and through…

Notre Dame wasn’t able to hold onto every 2022 recruiting class commitment after the sudden departure of Brian Kelly from the program just a few short weeks ago but they held onto the majority as the early signing period began on Wednesday.

Notre Dame’s advanced media team knocked it out of the park with their videos of each player this year as cameos are made from former Notre Dame star football players, professional wrestlers, reality TV personalities, and plenty more before Marcus Freeman ultimately delivers the good news for Irish fans.

Here are some fast-facts about prized linebacker Nolan Ziegler, who was the second new Notre Dame player to send his national letter of intent in on Wednesday:

Name: Nolan Ziegler
Position: Safety
High School: Catholic Central (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
Size: 6-4, 205 pounds
Stars: Three stars on both 247Sports and Rivals
Original Commitment Date:  August 22, 2020

Longtime Notre Dame commitment flips to Michigan

Even though it’s hardly a shocker it’s not the news anyone wanted Wednesday morning.

Amorion Walker had been a verbal commitment to Notre Dame since early-March and for a while sat as the only wide receiver commit in the 2022 Fighting Irish class.

The early signing period officially opened on Wednesday and Walker, whose commitment had very much been up in the air, declared he’s now headed to Michigan.

This is hardly a shocker as we’ve been wondering if he would flip to Michigan for a few months now but it certainly still stings.  The wide receiver class that felt so strong just a few short weeks ago lost commitments from C. J. Williams and now Walker, leaving only Tobias Merriweather in the class.

As a result you can expect Notre Dame to try and get help at the position through the transfer portal and perhaps by offering a late scholarship to a high school senior before February.

Ohio State 4-star defensive back verbal commit flips to Texas

Ohio State lost one to Texas …

One of Ohio State’s talented verbal commitments, 4-star defensive back Terrance Brooks, flipped to Texas on Wednesday.

Brooks had originally committed to Ohio State back on June 30 of this year, but as things got closer to putting pen on paper, rumors started circulating that his home state of Texas with new head coach Steve Sarkisian and opportunities with Name, Image, and Likeness in the Austin area were starting to sway the prospect.

Things went quiet a few days prior to the early signing period, and it sure seemed like the writing was on the wall that the flip was on.

For Ohio State, it is a significant loss. The Buckeyes lost depth when Ryan Watts entered the transfer portal, and the rest of the secondary is still in flux with some youth and uncertainty.

We’ll keep an eye on this as we get more information, but in the new brave NIL world we are living in, these types of flips could become more and more the norm.

Nation’s No. 4 LB Jalon Walker is officially a Georgia Bulldog

Jalon Walker is a DAWG

Jalon Walker, who ranks as the nation’s No. 41 overall player and No.4 ranked linebacker according to 247Sports, has signed his national letter of intent and is officially a Georgia Bulldog.

Walker, out of Salisbury, North Carolina, about a 45 minute drive from Charlotte, has been committed to UGA since March.

The 6-foot-2, 220 pounder is a three-sport athlete, also playing basketball and competing in track and field.

Walker’s ability to get off the edge quickly is apparent on film. He is disruptive and makes key tackles on special teams. He could see the field on special teams right away at Georgia.

Walker frequently finds his way into the opposing backfield.  He is a big-hitter with good speed. His tape is very impressive and shows why he was recruited by the top college football programs in the country.
