Ex-Giant Brandon Marshall rips Darrelle Revis, Sheldon Richardson

Former New York Giants WR Brandon Marshall ripped his ex-Jets teammates, Darrelle Revis and Sheldon Richardson, for their 2015 failures.

Former New York Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall is still sour over how the 2015 season concluded for his then-New York Jets, imploding in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills and subsequently missing the playoffs.

Four years later and Marshall has not let go of that frustration, and he’s got cornerback cornerback Darrelle Revis and Sheldon Richardson to thank for that.

“Being brutally honest … you had guys like Darrelle Revis, who just was stealing from us and didn’t show up, didn’t get off the bus, and I was disappointed,” Marshall said on the New York Post’s “Gang’s All Here” podcast.

“But that’s Darrelle Revis, that’s Sheldon Richardson … the big guys that we were counting on, they didn’t show up … being brutally honest. That whole year on that defensive side, man … if those guys were who we thought they were, we probably would have went on to just crush the playoffs.”

Instead, the Jets finished with a 10-6 record and just missed out on the playoffs due to their Week 17 loss and a win by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

That season, Revis was in his second stint with the team, having signed a deal for $16 million after spending some time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, earning a Super Bowl ring in the process. He appeared in just 14 games that season and was a shell of his former self.

In that Week 17 game, he surrendered 11 receptions and 136 yards to then-Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, while Richardson recorded six tackles.

Marshall, meanwhile, caught eight passes for 126 yards in the game. In his 13 seasons, he never once made the NFL Playoffs.

Former Jets WR Brandon Marshall calls out Darrelle Revis, Sheldon Richardson for roles in 2015 collapse

Former Jets WR Brandon Marshall accuses Darrelle Revis, Sheldon Richardson of stealing money during infamous 2015 collapse in Buffalo.

The Jets 2019 season finale ends in Buffalo, the same place where Brandon Marshall’s playoff hopes died four years ago.

Marshall, one of the better wide receivers of his generation, played with seven teams from 2006-18 and never appeared in the playoffs. Prior to the 2015 season, Marshall was traded to the Jets as a new regime sought its No. 1 wide receiver. He finished the season with 109 receptions on 174 targets for 1,502 yards and14 touchdowns.

Marshall’s best chance at postseason play came in his first season with Gang Green. The Jets stood at 10-5 after beating the New England Patriots in a walk-off overtime thriller the week before. All that was needed was a win over the Bills in Week 17 and New York would be in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.

The Jets lost to Buffalo and missed the postseason. Marshall felt like he was robbed of a career first and he’s still angered about the events that transpired in the Jets’ Week 17 collapse in Buffalo. Never one to hold back, Marshall took shots at former teammates over the most important game of his career.

“Being brutally honest … you had guys like Darrelle Revis, who just was stealing from us and didn’t show up, didn’t get off the bus, and I was disappointed,” Marshall said on the latest episode of the New York Post’s “Gang’s All Here” podcast.

“But that’s Darrelle Revis, that’s Sheldon Richardson … the big guys that we were counting on, they didn’t show up … being brutally honest. That whole year on that defensive side, man … if those guys were who we thought they were, we probably would have went on to just crush the playoffs.”

The Jets had a simple task. Win and they clinched a Wild Card berth. Unfortunately for Marshall, the team crumbled under pressure. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three backbreaking interceptions as Rex Ryan got the last laugh in the Bills 22-17 Week 17 upset. Marshall caught eight passes for 126 yards and a score in the game, but it wasn’t enough.

Revis reunited with the team who drafted him when he signed a lucrative contract upwards of $16 million per year in March of 2015. He proved to be a shell of his former self and no longer posed as shutdown threat that he did when he first donned the green and white.

In that Week 17 game, Revis was tasked with covering Sammy Watkins, who wound up catching 11 passes for 136 yards in winning fashion. In the trenches, Richardson six total tackles and two TFLs.

Marshall and Richardson have a long-standing feud that boiled over in the Jets locker room following a 24-3 loss to the Chiefs during the 2016 season, in which Fitzpatrick threw six interceptions.

Since then, Marshall has decided to take the high-road in what he described as a “one-sided feud.” However, he could no longer bite his tongue regarding postseason play. Marshall’s 13-year career never went beyond the first week of January.

In his eyes, he has some former teammates to blame for that.

Sheldon Richardson really hopes Mason Rudolph starts for the Steelers in Week 13

The look on Richardson’s face when he’s asked why he wants Rudolph to play is one of the most honest–and hilarious–expressions you’ll ever see from an NFL player.

Count Browns defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson among those who really want to see Mason Rudolph back at the helm of the Pittsburgh Steelers when the two teams meet in Week 13. Richardson gave a classic answer when asked about it after the Browns’ win over the Miami Dolphins.

While Cleveland was pounding Miami, Rudolph got benched after his poor play led to the Steelers trailing the winless Cincinnati Bengals. He was replaced by Devlin Hodges, who quickly rallied Pittsburgh to a win. That was a hot topic among the Cleveland media in the locker room and a question posed to Richardson.

After initially dismissing the question, the big defensive lineman returns to it quickly.

“I hope he plays, I hope he plays,” he says.

He’s asked the natural follow-up question — why?

“Did you see him play last game?”, Richardson deadpans incredulously.

Browns defender takes not-so-subtle shot at Mason Rudolph

Will Mason Rudolph play against the Browns this week?

In just a week the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns will square off for the second time in three weeks and you can bet this one is going to get weird. The first time around the Browns beat the Steelers 21-7 and Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph was made a fool by the Browns defense.

Rudolph was benched in this week’s game and Cleveland defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson was asked about it after his game. He fired back quick he didn’t care but then answered back he hopes he plays against the Browns.

When asked why he made it clear. “You see him against us?”

That stings but he isn’t wrong. Rudolph threw four ugly interceptions against the Browns and probably should have been benched well before then. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has a serious decision to make about which quarterback to start this week. Does he go back to the quarterback with the hot hand in Devlin Hodges or does Tomlin hope Rudolph can bounce back?

3 big takeaways from the Browns’ big win over the Dolphins

Jarvis Landry’s sweet revenge, Baker Mayfield’s boom continues and the defense stepped up

Cleveland blew out visiting Miami, 41-24, in a fun victory at FirstEnergy Stadium in Week 12. Here are three things that stood out while watching the Browns roll to their third victory in a row.

Baker Mayfield is back, baby!

Mayfield continued to play very well since the bye week. He lit up the Miami defense for 327 passing yards and three TDs. All of those touchdowns came in the first half as the Browns rolled to a 28-0 lead.

At one point, Mayfield was 11-for-13 for 168 yards and 3 TDs. He finished the first half 16-for-18 and in complete control of the offense.

He had but one bad throw, an interception that was behind and too hot for Jarvis Landry on a quick slant and was intercepted. But he often stood in the pocket and didn’t see ghosts, standing tall and delivering strikes all over the field. The INT mired a long streak without a turnover dating back to the Patriots game in Week 8, but Mayfield remains on fire lately.

Sweet revenge for Jarvis Landry

When the Browns traded for Landry back before the 2018 season, it seemed crazy the Dolphins were willing to give up such a prolific receiver. Miami gave away Landry for draft picks that netted the Dolphins a backup running back, Myles Gaskin.

Landry was classy in his departure, but it clearly bothered “Juice” the Dolphins sold him off for peanuts rather than paying him for his Pro Bowl production. He exacted some revenge on Sunday.

Landry caught 10 passes for 148 yards and two TDs against his old team. Mayfield kept feeding him the ball and the Dolphins had no answers. His Browns teammates had no complaints, either.

Way to go, Landry!

The shorthanded defense survived

No Myles Garrett, Olivier Vernon, Larry Ogunjobi or Morgan Burnett? No problem. Well, not much of one anyway.

Missing three normal starters up front and with starting safety Burnett on I.R., the Browns turned to several unproven commodities. Guys like Sione Takitaki (two tackles), Porter Gustin (a sack in his Browns debut) and Bryan Cox (three tackles including a TFL) stepped up. T.J. Carrie played his best game of the season.

Then there’s the two stalwarts from the front six, Joe Schobert and Sheldon Richardson. Schobert picked off two passes for the second week in a row, while Richardson absolutely dominated the Dolphins with two sacks, a forced fumble, a PD and several QB pressures.

Granted the Dolphins aren’t exactly an offensive juggernaut, but the depleted Browns defense played very well.

Baker Mayfield, Sheldon Richardson unaware of Myles Garrett’s racial slur accusation against Mason Rudolph

Baker Mayfield, Sheldon Richardson and other Browns were unaware of Myles Garrett’s accusation against Mason Rudolph that the Steelers QB used a racial slur

[jwplayer CxQ38ffE-ThvAeFxT]

The allegation made by Browns defensive end Myles Garrett that Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph used a racial slur at the onset of Thursday night’s brawl at FirstEnergy Stadium is rippling across the NFL landscape. The waves hit in the Browns locker room, too.

Two Browns players were directly asked by ESPN’s local beat writer, Jake Trotter, if they heard Rudolph say anything or if they had heard any talk about a possible racial slur prior to today. Neither Baker Mayfield nor Sheldon Richardson backed up Garrett’s claim, which the suspended DE made during his appeal hearing on Wednesday.

Trotter posted a very similar reaction from defensive lineman Richardson, who was on the field during the brawl,

As of now, there is no on-field audio from the brawl to confirm or refute Garrett’s allegation.

Sheldon Richardson wonders why Mason Rudolph didn’t get suspended

Browns DT Sheldon Richardson wonders why Mason Rudolph didn’t get suspended and he also defends Maurkice Pouncey

[jwplayer 6Q40ShvH-ThvAeFxT]

Count Browns defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson among those who cannot believe Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph escaped suspension for his role in the Thursday night brawl. Richardson remains stunned that the QB got off without missing any time.

“Very surprised,’’ Richardson replied after Monday’s practice when asked his thoughts on Rudolph. “It’s on camera what (he’s) doing. There’s no hiding it no matter what he says in the media. It is what it is.”

Richardson was clear that he thought teammate Myles Garrett deserved a lengthy suspension for hitting Rudolph over the head with his own helmet. The stunning strike came with just seconds left in the Browns’ 21-7 win over the Steelers in FirstEnergy Stadium. But he doesn’t believe Rudolph should escape responsibility for his significant role in the action.

“If you’re going to suspend (Garrett) indefinitely, I don’t know, a game or two. A game [for Rudolph]?’’ said Richardson. “Make it sound like you just can’t be a quarterback and do as you please in this league. Have some type of consequences for your actions as well.”

Richardson also defended Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, who got three games for attacking Garrett after the helmet strike.

“I don’t blame Pouncey for protecting his quarterback,” Richardson continued. “I’d go overboard for my guys, too. So nobody’s knocking him for that. That’s what football is. No matter how you try to hide it, it’s still going to be football.”

Garrett’s appeal hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

JC Tretter, Sheldon Richardson earn spots on PFF’s Week 10 team of the week

Tretter and Richardson both played great vs. Buffalo and it helped the Browns get a W

[jwplayer rzKgNnfu-ThvAeFxT]

Congrats are in order for two Browns who stood out in the Week 10 win over the Buffalo Bills. Center JC Tretter and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson were the top-graded players at their respective positions according to Pro Football Focus. That earned them spots on PFF’s Week 10 Team of the Week.

Tretter instantly validated his new contract extension with a great game against the Bills. He earned the highest grade of any center in Week 10, primarily on his pass protection,

Tretter turned in a 76.0 overall grade and 79.9 pass-blocking grade against the Bills in Week 10. He allowed just one pressure across 44 pass-blocking snaps.

Richardson was unbelievably effective against Josh Allen and the Bills. With the Buffalo OL paying extra attention to Myles Garrett, Richardson took advantage and posted a 91.8 grade for the week. He had three QB pressures and two stops on Allen, and his run defense grade of 83.7 is the highest for any Browns defensive lineman playing at least 30 snaps in a game all season.
