53 days until Browns season opener: 5 players to wear 53 in Cleveland

The regular season is just Nick Harris days from kicking off

The 2023 NFL season is nearly here as rookies and quarterbacks reported to Berea today in preparation for the start of training camp. There have been a total of 27 different players to wear the number 53 for the Cleveland Browns including center Nick Harris who will wear it for training camp. It will be a battle for Harris to come back from injury to make the roster in 2023.

The first player to wear the number for Cleveland was Al Coppage during the 1946 season. Interestingly enough Tae Davis actually wore the number during the 2022 season despite Harris having the number due to Harris being on IR with the torn ACL.

Badger Countdown: Former number 58 looking for new NFL team

The college football season is on the horizon and the Badgers kick off their 2023 campaign Sept. 2 versus Buffalo, which is now 58 days away.

The college football season is on the horizon and the Badgers kick off their 2023 campaign Sept. 2 versus Buffalo, which is now 58 days away. A former Wisconsin linebacker, who wore number 58 for the Badgers, is looking for a new NFL team this year.

Playing for Wisconsin from 2012-2015, Joe Schobert became a very good linebacker in his time in Madison. Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Schobert stepped into his own in year two with the Badgers.

During his sophomore campaign, he recorded 24 tackles, including a sack, while deflecting three passes over 10 games. Over his last two seasons, Schobert formed a formidable duo with fellow linebacker Vince Biegel.

Schobert saw his production increase in each of his three seasons with a significant role in Madison, compiling career numbers of 154 tackles, 13 sacks, 10 pass deflections, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception over 35 contests over those years.

He went on to be selected in the fourth round (99th overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and he’s now been on four teams in the league (CLE, JAX, PIT, TEN).

Schobert only appeared in six games with Tennessee in 2022, recording a career-low 16 tackles before being waived in December. He remains a free agent entering his eighth NFL campaign.

Which Badgers would’ve been EA Sports’ NCAA Football cover athletes since 2014?

Which Badgers would’ve been cover athletes on EA’s NCAA Football video game?

The last time that EA Sports released their NCAA Football game was 2013 and the game is set to return in 2024. Many have speculated which college football athletes would’ve been selected as cover athletes for the game over the last decade and for the sake of it, I’ve compiled a Badgers only list.

Wisconsin has had many “star” players in the Big Ten and many hometown favorites, but the program has also churned out some of the absolute best players in the country over the last 10 years.

Listed below, I selected the Wisconsin players that I felt most deserved to be on the cover for each of the Badgers’ last 10 seasons, choosing to go without any repeats.

Titans’ Mason Kinsey among practice squad elevations for Week 7

Titans cult hero, WR Mason Kinsey, will play in his second career game if active.

The Tennessee Titans elevated a pair of players from the practice squad for the Week 7 contest against the Indianapolis Colts, including cult hero and wide receiver, Mason Kinsey.

Kinsey, who has been a darling of a certain sect of Titans fans since being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020, will be playing in the second contest of his career, assuming he’s active.

Kinsey gets the nod over Dez Fitzpatrick, who was elevated last week but did nothing, as well as new practice squad addition, C.J. Board, who was brought in earlier this week.

The Titans were already short-handed at wide receiver but could also be without rookie slot receiver Kyle Philips, who was a late addition to the injury report on Friday with a hamstring issue and is questionable.

Along with Kinsey, linebacker Joe Schobert is also getting the nod from the practice squad with the team missing starting linebacker Zach Cunningham for a third straight game.

Schobert has now been elevated three times, meaning the team now must sign him to the active roster after this week or else he’ll be cut loose. The veteran made a huge impact play in Week 4 against the Colts, forcing a fumble that helped sealed Tennessee’s victory.

Titans place Treylon Burks on IR, activate Monty Rice among 4 moves

Josh Gordon is not being elevated for the Titans’ Week 5 game after all.

The Tennessee Titans announced four transactions on Saturday ahead of their Week 5 game against the Washington Commanders.

The team announced it has placed wide receiver Treylon Burks on injured reserve, which means he will miss at least the next four games. Burks came down with a turf toe injury in Week 4.

On the bright side, linebacker Monty Rice has been activated from the PUP list after being designated to return earlier this week. He’s eligible to play in Week 5 against Washington.

Rice’s return is significant with Tennessee not having starting linebacker Zach Cunningham in the lineup due to an elbow injury. This will be the first game Rice plays since suffering an Achilles injury in Week 12 of last season.

The Titans are also adding a bit of temporary depth to their active roster at both wide receiver and linebacker, as the team will elevate wideout Dez Fitzpatrick and linebacker Joe Schobert for Week 5.

Fitzpatrick has yet to play in a game this season after failing to make the initial 53-man roster and being kept on the practice squad. Schobert made his Titans debut last week and forced a fumble in the win.

The biggest surprise here is no elevation for wide receiver Josh Gordon, who we assumed would be the guy Tennessee turns to with its lack of depth at the position on the active roster. Instead, it will be Fitzpatrick who gets the nod on Sunday.

Titans sign Le’Raven Clark, add Joe Schobert to practice squad

The Titans added a pair of veterans on Tuesday, one to the active roster and one to the practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans made a trio of roster moves on Tuesday, adding one defensive player and one offensive player.

The team announced it has signed offensive lineman Le’Raven Clark off the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. Tennessee also inked linebacker Joe Schobert to the practice squad. To make room for Schobert, outside linebacker Gerri Green was waived from the practice squad.

A 2016 third-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, Clark spent five years in Indy before moving on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020 and 2021.

Clark has appeared in 51 games (16 starts) over his career and has experience playing at both guard and tackle.

Schobert is a former fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2016. The 28-year-old former Pro Bowler has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hopefully the signing of Schobert to the practice squad isn’t an indication that starting linebacker Zach Cunningham’s elbow injury will force him to miss time.

Cunningham left the Week 3 game early with the injury and was seen with a heavily-wrapped elbow following the contest.

Seahawks worked out three more free agents on Friday

On Friday, Seattle brought in three more free agents – including two linebackers.

The Seahawks keep churning the free agent pool looking for depth at linebacker. They don’t seem to be finding what they’re searching for, though. Earlier is week the team brought in five free agents for tryouts, including three off-ball linebackers. They didn’t sign any of them, though.

On Friday, Seattle brought in three more free agents – including two linebackers. Here’s a quick review of who came in.

Joe Schobert brings experience, leadership to Broncos’ defense

“Schobert is a guy that is another experienced guy that we know we can put in there and he can play right away,” Nathaniel Hackett said.

After losing projected starter Jonas Griffith to an elbow injury, the Denver Broncos signed veteran Joe Schobert to add more depth at linebacker.

Schobert, 28, is a seventh-player player who spent time with three other teams before joining the Broncos. The one-time Pro Bowler has 80 career starts on his resume, and that experience could help him quickly jump into Denver’s defense.

“Schobert is a guy that is another experienced guy that we know we can put in there and he can play right away,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said Monday. “He can bring that leadership. I think he’s had a lot of years with hundreds of tackles. I think that’s always a positive thing. As somebody that has played special teams and done a lot of different things, I think he’s going to definitely help us throughout that.”

Schobert has topped 100 tackles in each of the last five seasons. He’ll likely compete with Alex Singleton to start next to Josey Jewell until Griffith returns. He’ll have to quickly learn the Broncos’ defense, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

“This will be my seventh different defensive scheme in seven years,” Schobert said. “It’s much to think about, but I’ve been pretty much on every single scheme you can have in the NFL. I’ve played with a lot of good guys and a lot of good defenses. I just want to bring experience and help the room grow.”

In addition to 661 tackles, Schobert arrives in Denver with 30 pass breakups, 26 quarterback hits, 11 sacks, 10 interceptions and 10 forced fumbles on his resume. Those are impressive totals, and he’ll aim to build on them with the Broncos this season.

Former Wisconsin LB Joe Schobert signs with new NFL team

The former Badger is headed to the west coast

Former Wisconsin linebacker Joe Schobert has a new NFL home. After spending the first four years of his career in Cleveland and then having short stints with the Jaguars and Steelers, he is headed to play with a number of former Badgers stars in Denver.

Schobert joins the Broncos when they need depth at linebacker. The massive offseason news out of Denver involved another former Badger: Russell Wilson headed to the Broncos.

Schobert was a Pro Bowl selection in 2017 and Big Ten Linebacker of the Year while at Wisconsin in 2015.

Broncos sign LB Joe Schobert

The Broncos are signing Joe Schobert to add more depth at linebacker.

Story update: The Broncos confirmed the Schobert signing on Monday morning. See our original post below.

The Denver Broncos are signing veteran linebacker Joe Schobert, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Denver needed to add more depth at inside linebacker after losing projected starter Jonas Griffith to an elbow injury. Griffith is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Schobert will likely compete with Alex Singleton for the starting job across from Josey Jewell while Griffith is sidelined.

Schobert (6-1, 240 pounds) is a former fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin who spent the first four years of his career with the Cleveland Browns before one-year stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Schobert, 28, had a career year in his second season, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2017 after totaling 144 tackles, three sacks and one interception. In 93 career games (80 starts), Schobert has totaled 661 tackles, 30 pass breakups, 26 quarterback hits, 11 sacks, 10 interceptions and 10 forced fumbles.

Schobert worked out for the Broncos two weeks ago. He’s now set to join the team and compete for a starting spot, at least on a temporary basis.
