Giants on hand to watch Malik Willis at Liberty Pro Day

The New York Giants had reps at the Liberty Pro Day, where Malik Willis threw, as well as the Iowa State Pro Day.

The New York Giants quarterback coach Shea Tierney has been busy as of recently. After just attending the Pittsburgh Pro Day to scout Kenny Pickett, the Giants sent Tierney to Liberty to watch potential top-10 pick, quarterback Malik Willis.

Willis has been an outstanding quarterback during his time as a Liberty Flame, throwing for over 5,000 yards and 45 touchdowns during his two years as a starter. Willis was also a true dual-threat, rushing for 1,822 yards and 17 touchdowns during his 23 starts.

Willis’ amazing play since transferring from Auburn has made him a top prospect in this new age of dual-threat quarterbacks. He also had a phenomenal combine where he threw some amazing deep balls helping his overall draft stock. Willis currently has worked his way up to the top 10 discussion and he may possibly even be a top-five pick in this year’s draft.

However, despite this recent quarterback scouting, it remains unlikely the Giants will select a quarterback with either of their two top 10 picks. They have too many needs and there has been a general commitment to Daniel Jones for this upcoming season.

However, if the Giants were to target a quarterback they have plenty of capital to trade back to a desirable spot to draft any of this year’s top field generals.

In addition to the Liberty Pro Day, the Giants also had representatives on hand at the Iowa State Pro Day.

It does not hurt to be prepared, and general manager Joe Schoen making sure he does his research on all the potential quarterback options is a good look for this new era of management in Giants football.

Regardless of what Schoen and the Giants decide, they will need to make the right decision because the team has been somewhat of a dumpster fire at the quarterback position over the past several seasons.

The New York Giants announced some additions to their coaching staff on Friday.

Big Blue officially named their coordinators under new head coach Brian Daboll: Mike Kafka (offense), Don “Wink” Martindale (defense) and Thomas McGaughey (special teams).

The team also subsequently announced the hiring of some key assistants:

  • Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney
  • Running backs coach DeAndre Smith
  • Wide receivers coach Mike Groh
  • Tight ends coach Andy Bischoff
  • Offensive line coach Bobby Johnson
  • Asst. offensive line coach Tony Sparano, Jr.
  • Defensive line coach Andre Patterson

In addition, the Giants announced that Laura Young has been hired as the team’s director of coaching operations. Young will be involved in “every aspect of football operations, including coordinating/organizing practice, as well as game day operations.”

“(Young will) have her hands all over the organization in terms of the coaching side,” Daboll said. “She’s with me every step of the way. She’s a rock star really, and I feel very fortunate that I get to work with her each day because she provides just a tremendous amount of support and value to really everyone, but myself the most, I would say.

“She’s smart, there’s really not a job she can’t do and a job she won’t do. That’s her mindset. Very humble, egoless, but driven, smart. I just think she’s the best.”

Daboll took a unique approach to assembling his staff. He leveraged several relationships from his time as offensive coordinator in Buffalo, but also hired coaches he had no prior relationship with.

“I think what you try to do when you’re putting together a staff, whether that be an offensive staff in a smaller form or the entire staff, you try to put together a group of people that will complement one another, whether that’s experience, whether that’s energy, whether that’s detail, whether that’s passion,” Daboll said. “You don’t want to have a cookie cutter approach and hire everybody that’s exactly the same. I think that you have to offset blind spots.”

Daboll will continue to add to his staff over the next week or two as the Giants prepare for the NFL combine later this month and free agency which begins in mid-March.

Report: Giants hiring Shea Tierney as quarterbacks coach

The New York Giants are hiring Shea Tierney, formerly of the Buffalo Bills, to be their quarterbacks coach.

Now that the New York Giants have settled on Brian Daboll as their head coach, they are filling out the reminder of their coaching staff.

They are reportedly hiring buffalo Bills assistant quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney as their new quarterbacks coach.

Daboll has not yet hired an offensive coordinator, but that is said to be down to three candidates – Mike Kafka, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach, who is scheduled to interview on Wednesday, Houston Texans passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton and Chad O’Shea, the New England Patriots’ quarterbacks coach.

O’Shea has also worked with Daboll in the past.

Tierney has been working under Daboll in Buffalo since 2018 and was with him in Alabama in 2017. The poaching of the Bills’ offensive staff continues. Daboll is also expected to hire offensive line coach Bobby Johnson.

Report: Bills in market for new face at QB coach as Giants hire Shea Tierney

Report: #Bills in market for new face at QB coach as #Giants hire Shea Tierney:

The Buffalo Bills will have a brand new coaching staff in terms of those relating to quarterbacks next season.

Earlier this week, lead QB coach Ken Dorsey was promoted to offensive coordinator. Dorsey replaced Brian Daboll, who was hired as the New York Giants’ head coach.

Daboll has now taken one of the top potential candidates to fill Dorsey’s old job with him. According to The Athletic, the Giants have hired Sea Tierney as their quarterbacks coach.

Tierney was previously Buffalo’s assistant QB coach, which almost automatically made him a candidate to replace Dorsey as the lead QB coach. While it’s unknown how much interest the Bills had in promoting Tierney, it’s now off the table. He’ll be in New York.

Tierney moving from the Bills to the Giants makes him the second reported coach to move from Buffalo to New York. The first was offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, who was hired in that same role with the G-Men earlier this week.

Johnson’s hiring was a lateral move, but his contract was up with the Bills so he was allowed to make that switch. Tierney is taking a promotion in New York, so his move is allowed regardless of contract status.

While Tierney has been with the Bills since 2018, he had worked with Daboll for even longer.

Tierney essentially came to Buffalo in a package deal in 2018 as Daboll convinced him to head to the Bills when he was hired as offensive coordinator. The two were previously employed at the University of Alabama.

Stay tuned to Bills Wire throughout the winter as we will provide all updates regarding Buffalo assistants and front-office members that are connected to other NFL teams.
