Latest PFF NFL mock draft has Bucs loading up on defense

The team at PFF’s NFL Stock Exchange gave the Bucs a two-round mock draft to see what their analysts think the team could achieve.

The offseason for NFL teams means that we are flooded with NFL mock drafts. For the Bucs, they are one of the harder teams to fill the needs of in the NFL Draft since they have some key positions that deserve attention.

Thankfully, the team at PFF’s NFL Stock Exchange gave the Bucs a two-round mock draft to see what their analysts think the team could achieve.

Connor Rogers and Trevor Sikemma used their notes from both the Shrine and Senior Bowl weeks to formulate a two-round mock draft for teams. In the case of the Bucs, they addressed the defense with both picks Tampa Bay had in the two rounds.

They gave the Bucs Shavon Revel out of East Carolina in round one. The talented cornerback tore his ACL this past season, but there is a chance he will be back in time to test for the NFL Scouting Combine. He has great man coverage skills and the size to handle NFL-wide receivers, and he is a reliable tackling option on defense.

In the second round of their mock draft, they gave the Bucs some much-needed help at the edge position. They drafted Princely Umanmielen out of Ole Miss. The former Florida Gator transferred to Ole Miss in 2024 and became one of the best edge rushers in all of college football. He uses his speed to get past tackles but also has fast hands to win one-on-ones.

This would be a great 1-2 punch for the Bucs defense in the NFL Draft. Whether they can pull this off is yet to be seen, but this could likely be the outcome of Jason Licht and his staff.

PFF names their perfect option for the Steelers in the 2025 NFL draft

PFF names a rangy, athletic cornerback coming off of a torn ACL as the Steelers prefect draft prospect.

By the time the 2025 NFL draft gets here, we should have a clear idea of what the Pittsburgh Steelers top needs will be. For now, it’s pretty clear the top two are wide receiver and cornerback but as we have learned from the Steelers, expect the unexpected.

This makes any projection about that top pick a roll of the dice. Pro Football Focus offered up their perfect prospect for the Steelers and while we don’t agree it’s perfect by any means, it does make sense.

PFF went with East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel as the perfect option for the Steelers. Here’s what they had to say about the Revel and his disappointing 2024 season.

East Carolina CB Shavon Revel had his own disappointment in 2024 due to tearing his ACL during Week 2. With that said, his ridiculous 2023 campaign, paired with his 6-foot-3, 193-pound frame should still warrant a first-round selection, and the Steelers have historically been willing to look past injury concerns in favor of premium talent. In 2023, he was targeted 49 in coverage and allowed just 20 catches with one interception and 12 forced incompletions.

Revel’s draft stock is going to be directly tied to his health and what he can do this offseason. Pittsburgh is not in a position to spend a top pick on a player and have them shelved with injury for a second straight season. If terms of a perfect pick without taking into consideration how realistic it is that player will be on the board, Colorado’s Travis Hunter is it.

But if we keep things more realistic and stick to cornerback, Texas’ Jahdae Barron is the most pro-ready guy who is healthy and ready to go. Our overall perfect pick for any position most realistically available is Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka. He epitomizes everything the Steelers need from a No. 1 wide receiver including his impressive downfield run blocking.

Vikings land defensive piece for Brian Flores in latest 2025 NFL mock draft

A recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft has the Minnesota Vikings landing a defensive player that would fit great in Brian Flores’ defense.

Although the NFL playoffs are quickly approaching us, that doesn’t mean that it’s too early to look ahead at the 2025 NFL draft. This week, Travis May of AtoZSports released a three-round mock draft.

Due to the trades that helped land Dallas Turner last year, the Minnesota Vikings are only slated for one pick through the first three rounds. But May believes the Vikings could land a valuable defensive piece at the end of the first round.

He has them drafting East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. at pick 30. May believes that Revel has the talent to go high in the first round, but the ACL tear he sustained earlier this season will slide him down the board. Here is May’s full write-up of the selection.

Shavon Revel Jr. is a long lean cover cornerback with tons of athletic upside, but the early-mid first projections are probably a bit too optimistic for a Group of Five Conference defender who will miss all of NFL Draft season due to a torn ACL. However, he’s too good a value to let drop out of round one completely as the Vikings hope to bolster their leaky secondary that’s surrendered the fourth most passing yards in the NFL so far this season.

The Vikings will certainly look to get younger at cornerback this offseason. Stephon Gilmore (34) and Shaq Griffin (29) were signed to one-year deals this season. Although they have played well, their age and physical limitations have sometimes held Brian Flores back in terms of how much man coverage he can run.

Revel has the size (6’3″, 193 pounds) and cover ability (PFF gave him coverage grades of 84.7 and 85.2 over the past two seasons) that would fit perfectly in Flores’ scheme. He’s a name to keep an eye on as the draft approaches.

Draft declaration adds another 1st-round CB to the 2025 NFL draft

Revel is one of the most fascinating draft prospects on defense.

The cornerback class of the 2025 NFL draft is very deep but not loaded with first-round prospects. But we can add one more to the mix as East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel has decided to forgo his senior season and will declare for the NFL draft. ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter shared Revel’s declaration on X on Friday.

We have Revel as our No. 3 cornerback and No. 4 overall defensive back in the upcoming draft. He’s in the mix with Notre Dame’s Ben Morrison and Ole Miss’ Tre Amos to be the third corner off the board which would lock him into a Top 15 overall pick.

NFL teams love Revel because he has elite size and length. His ability to run a 4.4 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3 and over 190 pounds puts him in rare company. Revel is a smart play who doesn’t assume his size and athleticism can win every matchup and is smart in coverage. He’s a physical run defender and a big hitter.

Vikings land injured CB in latest 2025 NFL mock draft from PFF

The mock used the recent draft order, which had the Vikings drafting 28th overall after the games of Week 11.

The 2025 NFL Draft is roughly six months away, yet it seems like it is right around the corner as discussions about the event heat up. Every media outlet, including us, has been putting out mock drafts.

In fact, we have a mock draft on Mondays every week here, and the latest can be found on our homepage.

The mock draft we discuss today is one from PFF’s NFL Draft podcast, The NFL Stock Exchange. The mock used the recent draft order, which had the Vikings drafting 28th overall after the games of Week 11. Connor Rogers ended up drafting a cornerback for the Vikings, Shavon Revel out of East Carolina.

Revel is out for the year with a torn ACL but was on pace to be a top-ten pick in the 2025 NFL Draft before the injury. He becomes a massive value for the Vikings, and his aggressive style would be a perfect match for Brian Flores and his defense.

The secondary isn’t an issue but it needs some youth injected into it, Revel does that.

49ers make apparent strength stronger in Draft Wire mock

The 49ers get a fascinating CB prospect in this Draft Wire mock:

It looks like the San Francisco 49ers might be committing to a philosophical change in the way they build their defense.

That became apparent when the club used a second-round pick on cornerback Renardo Green in the 2024 draft, and then in the middle of the 2024 season extended fourth-year CB Deommodore Lenoir on a five-year contract. It was a different type of investment in cornerback than we’ve seen from a club that has typically prioritized its defensive line and pass rush.

A new first-round mock draft from our friends at Draft Wire illustrate how that potential change in team-building style could manifest in the 2025 draft.

Draft Wire has the 49ers committing further to their secondary and adding East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel.

Revel is listed at a massive 6-foot-3, 193 pounds. In 24 games with East Carolina he racked up 71 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, three interceptions, and 16 pass breakups. He also blocked a pair of kicks during the 2023 campaign.

While he checks a lot of boxes as a prospect, including a physical playing style that should fit in well with San Francisco, he comes with a major injury red flag. Revel tore his ACL during a September practice, which puts his status for the start of the 2025 season in question, and raises questions about how well he’d play after recovering from that injury.

On the other hand, the 49ers may be in a spot where they can afford to take a talent sliding down the draft board because of an injury. With Green and Lenoir figuring to hold down two starting spots, the 49ers could ease Revel into action.

For 49ers fans the idea of taking a player coming off an ACL tear may be off-putting given some of the organization’s failures in that area during the early-to-mid 2010s, but Revel is a top-flight talent who could round out an excellent young group of cornerbacks.

Potential 1st round CB prospect Shavon Revel out for the season

East Carolina CB Shavon Revel, one of the top prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft, tore his ACL in practice and is out for the season

Injuries are always an unfortunate factor in the game of football and the NFL Draft evaluation process. One of the most promising cornerback prospects for the draft class of 2025 is now out for the season after suffering a knee injury.

East Carolina CB Shavon Revel tore his ACL in practice this week and will miss the rest of the Pirates season. Revel had cracked the first-round projection in many mock drafts, and his athletic freakishness was a big reason why scouts coveted the hard-working Revel.

The injury will also keep Revel out of the postseason all-star and workout circuit. Provided there are no setbacks, he should be able to be ready for the 2025 NFL season. As for how the knee injury impacts Revel’s draft stock, it’s too early to tell. It does make Revel a tougher sell as a first-rounder, however.
