Former Notre Dame WR commit Shaun Terry finds his new home in the SEC

The former Irish commit finds a new home

Back in February when Ohio 2025 wide receiver [autotag]Shaun Terry[/autotag] committed to Notre Dame, it looked like the Irish had found another great prospect.

Unfortunately the 5-foot, 10-inch and 170-pound pass catcher didn’t stick with his verbal pledge and reopened the process at the start of this month. He quickly got new offers and made a few official visits.

One of them was to Missouri, the school that would eventually land his commitment from on Thursday. Notre Dame had others ranked higher on its recruiting board, which most likely pushed Terry out of the class.

The Tigers get a shifty and electric receiving prospect who is ranked as the No. 662 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

At the end of the day, Notre Dame will be fine at the position, as they already have commitments from Elijah Burress, and Jerome Bettis Jr. with other top prospects highly considering joining them.

Nebraska offers former Notre Dame commitment

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a 2025 prospect who recently backed off a pledge to Notre Dame.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered three-star wide receiver Shaun Terry, a 5-foot-11 wide receiver out of Ironton, Ohio.

The offer for Terry comes just a day after the three-star prospect backed off a pledge to Notre Dame. After originally committing to the Fighting Irish in mid-February, Terry announced his decision to decommit from the Irish on Saturday.

Terry has developed a strong offer sheet over his recruitment with offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

As a junior for Ironton, Terry recorded 1,635 all-purpose yards, including 391 rushing yards, 525 receiving yards, and 570 punt return yards. He also had a total of 19 touchdowns on the season.

Ohio 2025 wide receiver decommits from Notre Dame football

Good and bad news on the trail for the Irish on Saturday

It wasn’t all good news for Notre Dame football on the recruiting trail Saturday.

Yes, getting a commitment from 2026 quarterback Noah Grubbs is huge, but he won’t be able to sign for over a year from now. Ohio wide receiver [autotag]Shaun Terry[/autotag] was set to sign this winter, but had a change of heart and decommitted from the program.

The Irish recently offered in-state wide receiver JonAnthony Hall while they await the final decision from Derek Meadows as well. There are still two commits in the 2025 class, with [autotag]Jerome Bettis Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Burress[/autotag].

With so much current movement recruiting receivers, its hard to say how this all shakes out for Notre Dame.

What we do know is that the Notre Dame coaching staff has a great handle on what is going on with its recruits and have shown that they can easily find replacements if needed.

Meet Notre Dame’s Top Ranked 2025 Recruiting Class

What must the Irish still add to make this class great?

It’s early in the 2025 recruiting cycle still but recruiting for Notre Dame tends to play out a lot like a quote from New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra:

“It’s getting late early out there.”

When it comes to football recruiting Notre Dame is a team that tends to start hot and then usually have to hold on to secure a high ranking.  They’re rarely if ever a program that soars up the rankings late in the process.

That’s why it’s so important that Notre Dame gets off to hot starts in recruiting and that is something they’ve certainly done to date with the 2025 recruiting class.

Notre Dame now has 16 commitments in the class which gives them the top ranking according to both 247Sports and Rivals.

Below are the currently committed 16 members of Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class and a little about each player.

Please note: Prospects are listed according to their public commitment dates

Notre Dame recruiting: 3-star WR Shaun Terry commits to Fighting Irish

Shaun Terry committed to Notre Dame this weekend. The three-star receiver had a near equal amount of receptions and carries last season.

It’s still early in the process, but Notre Dame football’s No. 1-ranked recruiting unit in the class of 2025 just got stronger.

The Fighting Irish secured the commitment of three-star wide receiver Shaun Terry on Saturday. Ranked the No. 58 WR in the nation, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound player out of Ohio reposted a graphic with his announcement the day after news broke on 247Sports.

According to the recruiting outlet, receivers coach Mike Brown and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock prioritized Terry’s recruitment. One staffer told 247Sports that Terry has “the most electric tape this cycle” with what the program confirmed was 4.5 40-second speed. The receiver visited Notre Dame four weeks ago, according to On3, and decided he didn’t need to continue his recruitment into his senior season.

In his junior season at Ironton High School (Ohio), Terry had 27 receptions for 525 yards and nine touchdowns to go with 391 rushing yards on 28 carries with five more touchdowns. A two-sport athlete who has been on the varsity boys basketball team both of the last two seasons, Terry is averaging 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this year, according to MaxPreps.

Terry had 27 offers, including from Auburn, Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and USC.

With the commitment, Notre Dame increases its nation-high number of recruits to 16, well over the next-best of 10 of Clemson, Oklahoma and Penn State. The Fighting Irish class consists of nine four-star and seven three-star players.

Notre Dame football gets a commitment from 2025 Ohio wide receiver

The Irish once again go into Ohio to get a commitment

Notre Dame football has started to heat up its wide receiver recruiting over the last few weeks.

New Jersey’s Elijah Burress committed just over a week ago, giving the Irish their first verbal of the 2025 class at the position. On Sunday that number grew to two, as Ohio’s [autotag]Shaun Terry[/autotag] committed to Notre Dame.

The 5-foot, 10-inch and 170-pound pass catcher is a 3-star prospect, ranked as the No. 69 player at his position and 490th overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It took less than a month after Terry received his Irish offer to make up his mind. During that time other schools like Oregon, Tennessee and Indiana offered as well. His finalist were Michigan, USC and Missouri.

Terry’s commitment is No. 16 in the cycle for the Irish, the collection of verbals is viewed by many as one of the top class in the country at this moment.

Notre Dame offers 2025 Ohio athlete while on a weekend visit

The Irish gave out an offer during its junior day

Notre Dame football is pulling out all the stops this weekend for its first junior day of the year.

If you haven’t seen, some of the coaching staff dressed up as leprechauns to greet recruits. One of the prospects was Ohio 2025 athlete [autotag]Shaun Terry[/autotag]. The 5-foot, 9-inch and 170-pound player was offered a scholarship while making a visit to South Bend on Saturday afternoon.

Terry is currently ranked as a wide receiver, even though he could play defensive back as well. He’s the No. 68 prospect at his position and 490th overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The Irish are the latest school to offer the fast rising prospect, as they followed up USC and Kentucky who pulled the trigger earlier this month.

An interesting tidbit about Terry is that he is the cousin of former NBA player O.J. Mayo, who many believed was one of the best prospects in the country at the time.

The Irish are off to a fantastic start to the 2025 class, as they are currently ranked as the No. 1 class in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
