Shaun O’Hara: Giants ‘drooling over’ WR Rome Odunze

Shaun O’Hara says the New York Giants are “drooling over” Rome Odunze and can’t envision them passing on the WR if he’s available at No. 6.

Following the conclusion of the 2024 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, rumors began to spread about the New York Giants and how they intended to address the quarterback position this offseason.

Some of that speculation suggested a growing interest in Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy while more centered around Daniel Jones and his future with the team.

Rich Eisen shared a particularly juicy rumor that the Giants were “absolutely done” with Jones before acknowledging that he could be entirely wrong about that gossip.

Retired Giants offensive lineman Shaun O’Hara didn’t hear those rumors but does have a little bit of inside information of his own.

While appearing on NFL Total Access earlier this week, O’Hara revealed that the Giants are “drooling over” wide receiver Rome Odunze.

“I know the Giants are drooling over this guy,” O’Hara said. “If he’s there at six, I don’t see any way they pass him up.

“He may have leap-frogged Marvin Harrison. With what Rome Odunze did in the drills, in all the testing, the jumps, the running, I thought he was phenomenal. I think he showed that he is just as smooth as any other receiver out there.”

The difference between Eisen’s “I heard” and O’Hara’s “I know” is noteworthy.

The Giants will address the quarterback position this offseason and you can’t rule out a trade back up into the first round for someone like McCarthy, but assuming they add to the offensive line in free agency, a WR1 is the team’s top priority.

General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll met with Odunze at the Combine and that meeting reportedly went well. The prospect was impressed with the regime and said he feels the Giants have a bright future.

Will Odunze himself be a part of it? Shaun O’Hara certainly believes so.

See it: Kate Mara helps announce Season 3 of The Eli Manning Show

Kate Mara hilariously joins Eli Manning and Shaun O’Hara to announce Season 3 of The Eli Manning Show.

The Eli Manning Show will return for a third season in 2023, the New York Giants announced on Thursday.

The 8-episode series, hosted by Eli Manning, runs throughout the year and explores the connection between Big Blue and celebrity fans, influencers, and athletes. Eli also gives fans a peek into his life as a retired QB and full-time dad through Eli’s Extras.

The show is incredibly entertaining and has featured stars such as Michael B. Jordan, Derek Jeter, Sadie Sink, and Ryan Reynolds, to name just a few.

For that reason, it should come as little surprise that the Giants tapped into some of their homegrown star power for the Season 3 trailer — Manning, Shaun O’Hara and actress Kate Mara.

Kate is the daughter of Timothy Christopher Mara, a Giants scout and team vice president. She is the granddaughter of the late Wellington and Ann Mara, and the great-granddaughter of Giants founder Tim Mara.

Kate’s sister, Rooney Mara, is also a successful Hollywood actress.

Rutgers football: Former Pro Bowl center Shaun O’Hara believes in the direction of Greg Schiano’s rebuild

Rutgers football is heading in the right direction under Greg Schiano. So says former Giants center Shaun O’Hara.

WALDWICK, N.J. — The return of Greg Schiano has seen growth from the Scarlet Knights over the past three years with the program seemingly on the cusp of competitiveness in the Big Ten. The growth of Rutgers under Schiano is something that former New York Giants center Shaun O’Hara believers will only continue.

O’Hara, a three-time Pro Bowl center who won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants, is pleased by the continued progress being made by Rutgers. The talent on the two-deep is solid and Rutgers continues to make solid additions on the recruiting trail.

Plus, this was a big offseason for Rutgers on the offensive side of the ball with three new changes to the coaching staff: offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca, wide receivers coach Dave Brock and offensive line coach Pat Flaherty.

O’Hara spoke at a children’s event held at the Superdome Sports facility in Waldwick, N.J. The Children’s Place sponsored a community outreach to over 300 children and included former Giants’ stars such as Eli Manning, Just Tuck and O’Hara.

[lawrence-related id=24930]

The extensive and sprawling event sponsored by The Children’s Place included an Easter egg hunt, stations with food, music, games, the chance to learn football from the Giants players and even custom t-shirts.

“I think Greg coming back to the banks was a big part in Rutgers football climbing in the Big Ten. And look, success doesn’t come as early as everybody wants, and it’s not as easy as everybody thinks,” O’Hara told Rutgers Wire last week.

“But he’s done a great job really establishing his culture there. And I think – you know, the recruiting process is different now with the transfer portal, NIL and the landscape has changed dramatically from even his first stint and even from his first year back there so it’s a challenge, no doubt about it.”

O’Hara even sees Rutgers gaining a more competitive footing in the ultra-competitive Big Ten in terms of recruiting. Since the return of Schiano, Rutgers has done a nice job of adding players in the transfer portal but also finding a good mix of high-end talent and developmental players with a high upside.

“I think he’s done a great job recruiting some talented kids and then really growing the kids in the program. So you’re gonna see guys like Michael Burton, Isiah Pacheco winning the Superbowl,” O’Hara said.

“I think that’s always been one of the biggest things since Greg has gotten there is making Rutgers a pipeline, letting kids know (that) look at Rutgers and you can make it to the NFL. That is attainable. So I know he’s done a great job.”

At the same event, O’Hara also praised the hiring of Flaherty, who was is offensive line coach at the Giants. With the Giants, Flaherty was the offensive line coach for two Super Bowl champions.

“I know this, you know Greg Schiano and Pat Flaherty do go back a long way. Actually, I think Greg was a GA (graduate assistant) at Rutgers when Pat was a tight ends coach. So they’ve known each other for a long time. Nobody’s gonna outwork that Flaherty. that’s for darn sure. He’s one of those guys that just doesn’t know any other way but to prepare and to make sure his players are prepared.

“You know, he led us to countless victories. He’s got the Super Bowl rings to prove it. So I know he comes to the ‘Banks’ with a lot of merit. But I think he’s gonna really make those kids better on and off the field.”

Giants greats Eli Manning, Shaun O’Hara offer advice to Aaron Rodgers

Retired New York Giants greats, Eli Manning and Shaun O’Hara, offer advice to Aaron Rodgers if he’s thinking of coming to The Big Apple.

Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be leaving Green Bay for the bright lights of the Big Apple — not for the New York Giants but for the Jets.

If he does, former Giants greats Eli Manning and Shaun O’Hara have some advice for the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player: “Just win!”

“I don’t think Aaron needs any advice from us,” Eli told TMZ Sports. “The guy’s been playing at an unbelievable level for so long, MVP. If he wants to come to New York and play if that’s an option, he’ll think about it.

“He’s had his time in the darkness to debate that. And, he honestly can still play at a high level and come to New York with a young team, they have a talented roster there with the Jets.”

O’Hara simply stated that there is a very easy way to gain acceptance in New York.

“Everything works out if you win,” he said.

Shaun O’Hara speaks to the impact Rutgers football’s new offensive line coach will make: ‘Nobody’s going to outwork Pat Flaherty’

Shaun O’Hara talks the impact of Pat Flaherty.

Shaun O’Hara won a Super Bowl rings playing for the New York Giants and offensive line coach Pat Flaherty. It is his belief that Flaherty brings a lot to the table in his new position with Rutgers football.

Hired last month to be Rutgers football’s offensive line coach, Flaherty represents two decades of experience in the NFL. In his 11 seasons with the Giants, Flaherty won Super Bowl XLII with O’Hara as his starting center.

O’Hara, now a highly respected analyst with the NFL Network, was named a Pro Bowl selection in each of his final three seasons in the league. He was also an All-Pro pick in 2008.

A former Rutgers football standout who was a walk-on to the program, O’Hara sees Flaherty’s return to Rutgers as a natural fit. From 1984-91, Flaherty was an offensive line assistant.

“Well, I think it’s, you know, it’s a great opportunity for ‘Flats’,” O’Hara told Rutgers Wire on Friday about the return of Flaherty to the Scarlet Knights.

O’Hara joined former Giants teammates Eli Manning and Justin Tuck at an event in Waldwick, N.J. The event was sponsored by The Children’s Place and included over 300 children and their families at the Superdome Sports facility. The event included learning football tips from the Giants trio as well custom t-shirts and an Easter egg hunt.

“You know, he led us to countless victories. He’s got the Super Bowl rings to prove it. So I know he comes to the ‘Banks’ with a lot of merit. But I think he’s gonna really make those kids better on and off the field.”

Flaherty is an instrumental part of the Rutgers football rebuild, which is entering its fourth season under Schiano. The offensive line has been a sticking point for the program the past three years and Flaherty’s NFL experience will be counted on to guide and elevate the group.

Joining Flaherty on the offensive line staff is Scott Vallone. The former standout Rutgers football defensive lineman was named an offensive line assistant last month.

See it: Michael B. Jordan recreates greatest catch in Giants history

Joined by Eli Manning and Shaun O’Hara, actor Michael B. Jordan attempted to recreate what is arguably the greatest catch in Giants history.

Michael B. Jordan, assuming the moniker of “MBJ,” joined retired New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning on the latest episode of “The Eli Manning Show” this week.

Jordan was given his own locker, his own uniform and was then allowed to conduct an in-house interview before taking the field. There, joined by Manning and retired center Shaun O’Hara, the trio went on to recreate the greatest catch in Giants history.

MBJ channeled his inner OBJ by attempting to mimic Odell Beckham Jr.’s miraculous one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys on November 23, 2014.

To Jordan’s credit, he did go up and bring down the pass but it wasn’t quite the one-handed gem Beckham made. Still, it was enough to impress Manning and O’Hara.

“I’m not gonna lie: I didn’t think you’d be able to make some of these catches,” Manning told Jordan. “But that was one take. This is all live. This is legit. And you showed up.”

The Creed actor said it was the “hardest thing” he’s ever had to do.

“This is a dream come true, to be on the field with you two, reliving and remaking these plays,” Jordan said. “I’m gonna take this with me the rest of my life.”

Shaun O’Hara: Giants made ‘huge progress’ in 2022

Shaun O’Hara says the New York Giants made “huge progress” in 2022 and a lot of it had to do with the culture change under Brian Daboll.

Brian Daboll made a huge difference in his first year as head coach of the New York Giants. He took a four-win team and turned it into a nine-win playoff team.

Daboll was named the AP NFL Coach of the Year for his efforts, which began last year with a lot of uncertainty and ended in the NFC Divisional Playoffs.

Former Giants Pro Bowl center Shaun O’Hara, now an analyst at the NFL Network, outlined the progress the Giants made in Daboll’s first year.

“Before the season started, the ‘P’ word everyone was using was progress with this team,” O’Hara said, via Giants.com. “That’s what everyone wanted to see. I think the fact that we’re actually saying playoffs, they made the playoffs, they won a playoff game, that’s huge progress. I think for the Giants, we saw a lot of young players develop. I think that’s something this organization has really been lacking, is look, you draft a kid, and in Year 3 and Year 4, they should be better players than the year you drafted them. We finally have seen that progress in these players, and I think it’s amazing the difference that Brian Daboll and his staff, the difference that they have created with the same players.

“Look, there’s definitely been some turnover on the roster. Joe Schoen has had his work cut out for him, but when you look at a lot of these same players that the Giants have won games with, the core players were here last year. It was a dramatically different team, different vibe, different feel. They were confident.

“It was a quiet confidence, but they were also, they believed in each other that ‘hey, we get the game in the fourth quarter, we’ve got the guys that can win it and we’re going to find a way to win games.’ That was a breath of fresh air for everybody.”

Expect some more roster movement this offseason. The Giants are far from a finished product. Schoen has a vision and he’s just getting started.

It’s an exciting time to be a Giants fan.

Shaun O’Hara a big fan of Giants’ draft class

Shaun O’Hara came away impressed with the New York Giants’ 2022 NFL draft haul — especially their first few picks.

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen conducted his first-ever draft last week and came away with an 11-player class. Most picks were considered solid, especially in Round 1.

While not many thought the Giants won the draft overall, Big Blue did add more estimated value than any other team. Not only that, but the Giants’ draft class also brought with them impressive RAS scores.

Former Super Bowl champion Shaun O’Hara is a big fan of the overall haul. The retired Giants offensive lineman is a frequent fill-in on NFL network’s Good Morning Football and praised Schoen (and his picks) this week.

Shaun O’Hara: Brian Daboll could be ‘fantastic’ for Daniel Jones

Shaun O’Hara believes Brian Daboll and his offense will be “fantastic” for New York Giants QB Daniel Jones.

Will New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones join the elite group of young gunslingers taking the league by storm now that he’s going to get coached up by some of the top offensive minds in the game?

Perhaps. New head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka could turn Jones into a force like they did with Josh Allen in Buffalo and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, respectively.

Former Giants Pro Bowl center Shaun O’Hara believes that Jones could thrive under the coaching staff and their system.

“This offense could be fantastic for him,” O’Hara told NJ Advance Media on Super Bowl LVI Radio Row on Saturday.

“When you look at what Josh Allen does, Daniel Jones does the same exact things really well. I know it’s going to be a big year for him, I know he’s excited about it. … I know he can’t wait to get to work. He can’t wait to go out there and improve himself and improve this offense. I’m looking forward to big things for DJ.”

Jones has been inconsistent and injured the first three seasons here with the Giants. He’s played under two head coaches and three offensive coordinators and never really got into a groove as many of his offensive weapons also took turns being placed on injured reserve.

The Giants will dedicate this offseason to augmenting their subpar offensive line and shoring up their offensive personnel to fit Daboll and Kafka’s style.

Jones does have some of the qualities that Allen possesses but he’ll need to lean into them if he is to succeed. The coaches appear willing to give him that latitude.
