UFC parts ways with 11 fighters, including former title challenger

The UFC has parted ways with 11 fighters including a former title challenger after a two-month stretch that saw 55 signings.

The UFC roster has been officially trimmed by 11 fighters.

With a whopping 55 fighters signed in the months of September and October combined, the UFC has parted ways with nearly a dozen fighters in recent days including a former women’s flyweight title challenger.

Algorithm-based Twitter account UFC Roster Tracker first published the transactions when the promotion removed the fighters from official rankings eligibility.

Check out the recent batch of UFC departures below. The means of each fighter’s departure (release, end of contract, etc.) is not known, unless denoted otherwise.

Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 293 took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $209,000.

SYDNEY – Fighters from Saturday’s UFC 293 event took home UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance pay totaling $209,000.

The program, a comprehensive plan that includes outfitting requirements, media obligations and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replaces the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy.

UFC 293 took place at Qudos Bank Arena in Australia. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and ESPN+.

Under the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance program’s payout tiers, which appropriate the money generated by Venum’s multi-year sponsorship with the UFC, fighters are paid based on their total number of UFC bouts, as well as Zuffa-era WEC fights (January 2007 and later) and Zuffa-era Strikeforce bouts (April 2011 and later). Fighters with 1-3 bouts receive $4,000 per appearance; 4-5 bouts get $4,500; 6-10 bouts get $6,000; 11-15 bouts earn $11,000; 16-20 bouts pocket $16,000; and 21 bouts and more get $21,000. Additionally, champions earn $42,000 while title challengers get $32,000.

In addition to experience-based pay, UFC fighters will receive in perpetuity royalty payments amounting to 20-30 percent of any UFC merchandise sold that bears their likeness, according to officials.

UFC 293 video: Gabriel Miranda squeezes flailing Shane Young unconscious in 59 seconds

Shane Young did his damndest to fight off the Gabriel Miranda rear-naked choke at UFC 293, but he went to sleep instead.

[autotag]Gabriel Miranda[/autotag] only needed 59 seconds to put [autotag]Shane Young[/autotag] to sleep at UFC 293.

In a featherweight prelim bout at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Miranda (17-6 MMA, 1-1 UFC) took down Young (13-8 MMA, 0-4 UFC), took the back, and squeezed until unconsciousness came.

Young, who missed weight by 3.8 pounds at Friday’s weigh-ins, gave his best effort not to tap, as he bucked his limbs in a last-ditch effort to somehow wiggle away. It was unsuccessful as he picked up his fourth-straight loss.

Miranda picks up his first UFC win after an unsuccessful short-notice promotional debut vs. Blake Bilder, which he lost by unanimous decision in February.

UFC 293’s Shane Young hopes Israel Adesanya’s documentary sheds light on mental health for men

It’s been a minute since Shane Young has had his hand raised – four and a half years, actually. So maybe more than a minute.

Young (13-7 MMA, 2-4 UFC), from nearby New Zealand, takes on Gabriel Miranda (16-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on Saturday in Australia. He’ll be trying to snap a three-fight skid for his first victory since February 2009. But that’s not the only thing on his mind. He’s also thinking about a documentary featuring his teammate, middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, and the film’s potential impact on men struggling with mental health.

Young talked about that and more at Wednesday’s UFC 293 media day in Sydney.

Five fighters, including both co-main event participants, were suspended six months for injuries sustained Down Under at UFC 284.

Five fighters face 180-day medical suspensions as a result of injuries sustained at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia.

On Monday, the Combat Sports Commission of Western Australia publicly published a full list of medical suspensions. While the commission discloses the duration of the suspensions, it does not reveal specifics of fighters’ injuries.

Co-main event participants [autotag]Yair Rodriguez[/autotag] and [autotag]Josh Emmett[/autotag] were among the five fighters who received six-months suspensions, the longest term given to any fighters on the card.

UFC 284 took place Feb. 11 at RAC Arena and was headlined by a lightweight title fight between Islam [autotag]Makhachev[/autotag] and [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag].
