Top class of 2026 running back target includes Badgers in final list

Top class of 2026 running back target includes Badgers in final list

Wisconsin top class of 2026 running back target Shahn Alston included the Badgers in his list of final schools on Friday.

Alston becomes the fourth top-ranked class of 2026 recruit to include Wisconsin in his final batch of schools over the past month, joining four-star linebacker Tristan Phillips, four-star iOL Ben Nichols and three-star iOL Bear McWhorter.

Alston, who received his offer from UW on March 22, included Wisconsin as a finalist along with Auburn, Nebraska, Michigan State, Florida, Missouri, Penn State and USC. Alston took a visit to Madison when the Badgers squared off against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Sept. 14.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back is 247Sports’ No. 118 player in the class of 2026, No. 7 running back and No. 5 player from his home state of Ohio. ESPN, meanwhile, regards Alston as the No. 81 overall recruit and No. 3 player from Ohio for his class.

There appears to be no clear-cut favorite for Alston at this point in his process. On3’s recruiting prediction machine pegs Penn State as the most likely destination, but the Nittany Lions currently hold under a 25% chance to secure a commitment.

At Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, Alston has played on both sides of the ball. This past season, he logged 1,104 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns with his longest rush being 75 yards, per MaxPreps.

UW’s current class of 2026 features two commitments — three-star iOL Benjamin Novak and three-star quarterback Jarin Mock. If he elects to join the Badgers, Alston would immediately become the program’s most elite prospect in the class.

Four-star running back Shahn Alston places Auburn among top schools

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound two-way player is a consensus top 12 running back in the 2026 class

2026 four-star running back Shahn Alston narrowed down his preferred list of schools to eight on Friday. Auburn, along with Michigan State, Penn State, USC, Nebraska, Missouri, Florida, Wisconsin, and Nebraska, were the programs that made the final cut on his list.

The 5-foot-9, 205-pound two-way player is a consensus top 12 running back in the 2026 class. Alston, who plays his high school football in Painesville, OH, is currently the No.5 prospect at his position from the ‘Buckeye State’. He finished with a team-high 1,124 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns (15 rushing) during his sophomore season for Harvey High School. The four-star recruit has improved on those numbers drastically during his junior season, as he is currently at 1,104 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns through just 8 games this season.

With Jarquez Hunter set to graduate after this season and current backup Damari Alston likely to finish his Auburn career after 2025, Shahn Alston could help create another two-headed monster backfield on the Plains with 2025 four-star recruit Alvin Henderson as soon as 2026. Until then, the high school junior will take plenty of time weighing his options before he either commits to a program, or cuts his list of schools further as we approach next season.

Wisconsin top-10 class of 2026 running back target to visit Madison this weekend

Wisconsin top-10 class of 2026 running back target to visit Madison this weekend

Wisconsin football top-ranked class of 2026 running back Shahn Alston announced his plans to visit Madison this weekend on X.

The recruiting weekend has morphed into a notable one for Wisconsin in both football and basketball. Four-star hoops prospects Davion Hannah and Amari Allen will also trek to Madison for UW’s bout against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.

While all eyes will be directed toward what transpires on the gridiron, Luke Fickell’s staff is navigating future recruiting waters behind the scenes.

Arguably the most coveted offensive target of Wisconsin’s next recruiting class, Alston received his offer from UW on March 22, 2024. 247Sports currently ranks the junior back as the No. 112 overall recruit, No. 9 running back and No. 5 recruit from the state of Ohio for the class of 2026.

On3, another high-profile recruiting hub, considers Alston the No. 84 player in the country for the class of 2026 and No. 2 overall recruit out of Ohio. He’s labeled as a four-star on 247Sports, On3 and ESPN.

Despite his age, Alston owns quite the list of collegiate offers thus far. Of his 21 extended opportunities, the most notable programs include Baylor, Missouri, Penn State, USC, Purdue, Louisville, Auburn and Wisconsin.

At Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, Alston has played on both sides of the ball. As a sophomore, he ran for 1,042 yards and 15 TDs on 8.1 yards per carry on top of his four catches for 82 receiving yards and one receiving TD.

As a freshman in 2022, he rushed for 675 yards and 15 TDs in the backfield and registered 39 tackles, five sacks, two interceptions and four forced fumbles on defense.

As of Sept. 10, there is no clear-cut recruiting lock for where Alston will land. If Wisconsin can impress this weekend, the program will boost its chances of landing one of the most talented players in the class.

Penn State offers ’26 four-star RB Shahn Alston

Penn State has officially entered the recruiting mix for four-star running back Shahn Alston in 2026.

Penn State is now officially in the mix for a talented four-star running back from Ohio in the Class of 2026. Penn State extended a formal scholarship offer to Shahn Alston, from Painesville, Ohio, as he visited the campus for a weekend football camp and barbeque recruiting event.

Alston has a four-star recruiting rating from 247Sports, On3, and ESPN. Rivals only has him rated as a three-star recruit. Rivals currently has Alston likely to end up at either West Virginia or Wisconsin (both schools have extended offers).

On3’s recruiting prediction machine has a different outlook at the moment. Penn State appears to be in stiff competition with Pittsburgh and Akron (both schools have offers), although those numbers could easily change in a hurry.

Alston already has a long list of scholarship offers on the table, which will make this recruiting process one to watch closely. Other offers include Big Ten schools USC, Rutgers, Purdue, and Indiana. Other notable offers have come from Auburn, Baylor, Missouri, and Louisville.
