Arkansas goes 2 for 2 Friday night in recruiting

Texas 4-star cornerback Selman Bridges made Sam Pittman a happy man Friday night when he committed to the Razorbacks.

Just a short time after Braylen Russell made his commitment, Temple, Texas cornerback Selman Bridges did the same.

The 4-star cornerback and top-50 overall prospect chose Arkansas over Texas, TCU and USC and became the 16th member of the 2024 recruiting class.

Bridges is the No. 6 cornerback in the country and No. 50 prospect overall according to 247Sports.

His commitment pushes the 2024 class rank to No. 16 overall, which would be one of the top classes in school history, definitely from a ranking standpoint.

Razorbacks expecting good news later with two recruits

Arkansas hopes the batting average with recruits improves this evening as Braylen Russell and Selman Bridges are set to make their commitments.

Arkansas has been swinging and missing on football recruits as of late.

But like every good hitter knows, all it takes is one swing to get out of that dreaded slump.

This evening, Braylen Russell is hopefully going to give Razorback fans something to cheer about.

The Benton running back is slated to commit at 6:45 p.m. at the high school and it will be livestreamed by 247 Sports.

It came down to Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee for Russell.

Fifteen minutes later, defensive back Selman Bridges from Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas will make his decision.

Bridges has Arkansas, Texas, TCU and USC in consideration. It will be live streamed on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s YouTube page.

2024 4-star CB Selman Bridges announces commitment date

Top 50 ranked 2024 cornerback Selman Bridges will reportedly announce his commitment on Friday, July 14.

One of the top defensive prospects in the 2024 recruiting class will announce his collegiate destination later this week, as four-star cornerback Selman Bridges, ranked in On3’s Top 50 player rankings, is set to pick between Texas, Arkansas, USC, TCU, Oregon, Texas Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M on Friday, July 14.

Selman is currently positioned as the 46th-ranked player, the 5th-ranked cornerback, and the No.11-ranked player in Texas in the 2024 cycle, and due to his 6-3 160-pound frame and elite athletic profile, he is a lock to receive extensive snaps in his first season with any of the nine programs in his wheelhouse.

Selman’s 2022 junior season at Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas, just added to his already impressive resume, recording 42 tackles, 6 PBUs, and two interceptions. After offering him back in January, Bridges took an unofficial visit to College Station on Jan. 28. In an interview with On3’s recruiting analyst Hayes Fawcett back in May, Bridges stated that Jimbo Fisher and his staff “Showed a lot of love and support,” even though they have yet to host him on an official visit.

Keep in mind that Texas A&M’s end-of-the-month recruiting pool party/barbeque list has yet to finish adding visitors from the 2024 cycle, and keep in mind that four-star offensive tackle Weston Davis who committed to the Aggies on June 22, was a clear favorite to land with LSU before his announcement, so yes, anything is possible.

2024 4-Star CB Selman Bridges places Texas A&M among his Top 9 program list

Selman Bridges, a 4-star prospect in the 2024 cycle and the No. 5 CB in his class, has placed Texas A&M among his Top 9 programs list.

Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher was vocal this past week about how this team is “hungry” heading into the season, and that same aggressive mentality has carried over into the recruiting trail. On Thursday morning, it was announced that four-star cornerback in the 2024 cycle, Selman Bridges, finalized his Top 9 program list, which includes Texas A&M.

The 6-4, 170lb defensive back out of Temple and No. 5 CB in his class has received a number of offers from Power Five programs and has an official visit set with Arkansas on June 16. In addition to the Razorbacks, Selman has a particular interest in Texas and USC, according to the 247Sports tracker.

Texas A&M offered Bridges back on January 17 and he made an unofficial visit to College Station on January 28.

Like many other football players that have made their way through College Station, Bridges is another multi-sport athlete that could bring his versatility to the Aggies on the gridiron. Outside of football, he’s also competed in basketball and track and field. Bridges averaged 4.1 points and 3.9 rebounds across 34 varsity games in his sophomore basketball season while running 200-meter times of 22.91, 23.09, and 23.13.

That versatility translated over to the football field as he finished his junior year with 46 tackles and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. In 2022, he helped Lake Belton finish with an 8-3 record and a Texas 5A D-I first-round playoff appearance.

Bridges currently has no Crystal Ball predictions, but the inclusion of the Maroon and White in his Top 9 programs list builds some encouraging momentum for A&M nonetheless. With six current commits for the Aggies in the 2024 cycle, here’s to hoping Bridges becomes the next addition for Texas A&M’s future.

4-Star CB names Oregon as one of his top schools

Another 4-star recruit in the class of 2024 names UO as one of his top schools. Check out CB Selman Bridges here:

Since coming to Eugene last year, head coach Dan Lanning and defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin have recruited an abundance of highly-skilled DBs. Former Alabama CB Khyree Jackson, high school track star Rodrick Pleasant, and 4-star Cole Martin — Demetrice’s son — were all recruited under the tandem of Martin and Lanning.

Now at the start of the 2024 recruiting cycle, Lanning and Martin seem to have another talented DB interested in Oregon. Yesterday, CB Selman Bridges named UO as one of his top nine schools. Bridges is a 4-star player who hails from Texas, which is the state home to four of his other top schools.

At 6’3″ Bridges is much taller than the typical CB, but he still possesses the breakaway speed that is vital for a lockdown corner. In coverage, he seems most comfortable in man-to-man sets, and he is capable both in the press and when he is backed off the line.

Even though Oregon has a surplus of young DBs, Oregon could still be an enticing destination for Bridges. In the 2023 NFL draft, former Duck Christian Gonzalez was the second CB selected, and a program’s ability to produce NFL-caliber CBs is a strong selling point.

Lake Belton 4-star CB Selman Bridges: ‘I really like Texas’

One of the hottest cornerbacks in the class of 2024 is Selman Bridges from Lake Belton (Texas).

One of the hottest cornerbacks in the class of 2024 is Selman Bridges from Lake Belton (Texas).

So far, Bridges has offers from 26 different programs, including Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor, Cal, Duke, Houston, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Prairie View A&M, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC, UTSA, Vanderbilt and Washington.

Bridges (6-foot-3, 170 pounds) has visited the Longhorns twice in the last couple of weeks, though – raising speculation that Texas is the school to beat in his recruitment. Bridges told Nick Harris at Rivals he really likes the school and credits his relationship with head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“I really like Texas, I’ll definitely go back… Coach Sark is a good person to be around, we talk almost every week and just talk about life. It’s not just a football relationship with him, he wants to know what I want to be and what I want to do after football. It’s heart-to-heart conversation with him.”

Bridges has several more official visits scheduled, so his recruitment is far from settled. However, On3’s prediction model has Texas as the overwhelming favorite to get his commitment at 93.1%.

Going by the composite rankings, Bridges is ranked No. 6 among 2024 cornerbacks, No. 57 in the nation and No. 9 overall in the state of Texas.
