How did the series win over Kentucky affect Arkansas in the latest polls?

Did Arkansas receive a boost following a series win over a top-15 team? The answer will surprise you.

As Rodney Dangerfield famously said, “I get no respect.”

The same sentiment can be felt by Arkansas Softball, who got no respect in the latest polls following a series win over a top-15 team over the weekend.

After winning two of three games over then-No. 12 Kentucky at home last weekend, Arkansas makes no jump in either of the four major polls, remaining at their same spot from a week ago.

While there was no movement in the polls this week, the Razorbacks have a chance to boost their stock yet again this upcoming weekend on the road. Arkansas travels to Gainesville, Fla. to face the No. 11 Florida Gators beginning Friday night.

SOFTBALL: Hoffmann’s Late Blast Gives Arkansas Series-Opening Win Over Tennessee

Kacie Hoffman’s three-run home run in the 6th inning powered Arkansas through Tennessee in the SEC opener.

In the series opener between No. 8 Arkansas and No. 14 Tennessee, offensive production had low quantity, but high quality.

In a game that saw all runs come across over three innings, it was a swing from Arkansas’ Kacie Hoffmann that was the deciding factor, giving Arkansas the 4-3 win, taking game one of the series in Knoxville.

Down 3-1 going to the 6th inning, Arkansas looked to shake the lineup. After a Hannah Gammill single and Sam Torres got hit by a pitch, head coach Courtney Deifel elected to remove Cally Kildow in favor of Kacie Hoffmann. Hoffmann delivered for the Razorbacks in their time of need by sending the softball over the left field wall, pushing Arkansas ahead, 4-3.

For the freshman from Elkhorn, Neb., that homer was her 4th on the year, and she has now recorded 13 RBI in her young career.

Hoffmann’s three-run blast was an answer to a three-run home run that Tennessee hit earlier in the contest. In the 3rd inning, the Lady Vols got on the board with a three-run shot off the bat of Lair Beautae to give Tennessee the early 3-0 lead.

Arkansas cut into the lead in the top of the 5th inning with a two-out single by Taylor Ellsworth to score KB Sides, trimming the Vols lead to 3-1.

Danielle Gibson led Arkansas in hits with two, while five other Razorbacks grabbed a hit each.

Mary Haff continued her streak of dominance in the circle, outdueling Tennessee’s Erin Edmoundson by striking out 11 batters and allowing three hits and three earned runs in a complete game effort.

Game two of the series between Arkansas and Tennessee is set to begin at noon CDT, and can be seen on SEC Network+.

Alabama’s Montana Fouts named SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Montana Fouts receives weekly SEC honor

The expectations for Team 26 heading into the 2022 season were extremely high. Part of the reason was the return of star pitcher Montana Fouts. Fouts and the Tide are off to a hot start here at the beginning of the season and that has earned the fan-favorite Fouts SEC honors.

It was announced Monday that Fouts was named the SEC Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Fouts went 2-0 over the weekend including a complete-game shutout of top ten ranked Virginia Tech. Fouts allowed just one run on six hits while striking out 24 batters in her 13.1 innings pitched.

Fouts and the Crimson Tide will return to the diamond on Thursday, Feb. 24, when Alabama travels to Louisana to take on Ragin’ Cajuns.

A look at the LSU softball program ahead of the season opener

A look ahead to LSU softball.

The 2021 LSU Tiger Softball team finished the season last year with a loss in the Baton Rouge Super Regional against the Florida State Seminoles, who eventually went on to play the Oklahoma Sooners for the National Championship. That Super Regional is a series the Lady Tigers remember all too well.

“We have the whole FSU dogpile on our TVs,” said redshirt junior infielder Georgia Clark.

“The way last year ended it definitely put a spark under us,” said redshirt sophomore infielder Taylor Pleasants.

When you play in an emotional series like that and you come up short, you have two options. You can let it break you, or you can let it motivate you. The Lady Tigers have chosen to come back stronger.

“We’re going to go do weights and we’re going to do it to the best of our ability because maybe if we slacked off that one rep that might have been the difference between winning and losing,” said Pleasants.

“The way last year ended gives us the highest amount of motivation I think it was a really rough ending it was a tough pill to swallow. We saw so many opportunities where we could’ve had the last game go differently. I think we’re working every day to get opportunities like that back and make sure we take care of the ones that are in front of us,” said LSU Softball head coach Beth Torina.

The Lady Tigers had a very young team last year. They finished the season 35-22 with a team that had four Seniors and two Juniors. This means that 79% of that team is coming back this year. Led by Taylor Pleasants who finished last year with a .316 batting average, 12 doubles, 13 home runs, and 49 RBIs. Pleasants was recently named to the USA Softball Top 50 “Watch List”.

The Lady Tigers start the season ranked No. 14 in the USA TODAY Sports preseason poll and are picked to finish 6th in the 2022 SEC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll. LSU will open the 2022 season with the Tiger Classic, playing host to South Alabama, Illinois, and Central Arkansas on Feb. 11-13.

Alabama softball voted preseason favorites in the SEC

This is my shocked face

Patrick Murphy and the Alabama softball team will get their season started in less than two weeks and already the anticipation is building. Along with the anticipation are expectations for this 2022 bunch.

To add even more expectations it was announced yesterday that for the third straight season, Alabama was voted in the SEC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll as the favorite to win the SEC.

The expectations are not surprising considering the Tide will return college softball’s most dominant pitcher in Montana Founts along with a plethora of other talented players.

Alabama will get the 2022 season started on Feb. 11 against Southern Utah.

The Alabama softball team will be losing some of their talented players before next season. Whether it be the transfer portal or a lack of eligibility remaining, the 2022 Crimson Tide softball team will have a different look.

Patrick Murphy has been able to take various squads to the Women’s College World Series in his lengthy career with Alabama. He will soon attempt to top 2021’s loss in the semifinals with a new team, which mostly consists of returning talent.

Today, Alabama softball officially announced two big-time transfers from other high-profile programs. Infielders Ashley Prange of Ohio State and Ally Shipman of Tennessee will be joining the program.

“We are so happy to have these two outstanding young ladies join our program,” Murphy said. “They will provide experience, leadership and extreme passion for the game. Off the field, both Ashley and Ally will carry on the tradition of academic excellence that Alabama softball strives for. Our entire staff is very excited about #Team26.”
