Watch: Georgia football releases SEC championship hype video

We’ve made it. No. 1 Georgia (12-0, 8-0 SEC) will take on No. 8 Alabama (11-1, 8-0 SEC) for the SEC crown on Saturday.

Two of the most prominent programs in college football meet once again in Atlanta with the College Football Playoff looming.

The Crimson Tide has the upper hand, winning the only three matchups between the two in the SEC championship. Alabama handed Georgia its last loss in this game in 2021, but the Bulldogs have rattled off 29 straight wins (an SEC record), lasts year’s SEC title and back-to-back national titles since then.

Georgia football released its official hype video ahead of the game, featuring narration from Quavo, a UGA fan and recording artist.

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, televised on CBS.

SEC Championship Predictions: Who are the experts picking?

Experts get their predictions in before the SEC Championship. See who they are picking: Alabama or Georgia?

Alabama and Georgia square off in the SEC championship, which has become rather common place. In the last five matchups between these two, which include conference title games, national championships and regular season contests, the Crimson Tide have won four, through the Dawgs hold the most recent win.

The 2023 SEC title game serves as an extension of the College Football Playoff, as top-ranked Georgia looks to cement their position atop the rankings and No. 8 Alabama looks to make a last-chance push to make it in.

Experts, analysts and media members from across the country have weighed in on this game and made their picks.

Joel Klatt predicts winner of Georgia-Alabama game

College football analyst Joel Klatt predicts the winners of the conference championship games including Georgia-Alabama.

Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt has predicted who he thinks will win the conference championship games. Klatt, who will be calling the Michigan-Iowa game, is unable to predict what happens in the Big Ten championship.

Joel Klatt has predicted the winner of SEC championship, the ACC championship, and the Big 12 championship. The Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles and Michigan Wolverines all appear to control their playoff paths entering the Saturday of conference championship weekend.

The SEC Championship is here. No. 1 Georgia (12-0, 8-0) is set to take on No. 8 Alabama (11-1, 8-0) for the conference crown and a shot at the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs have a 29-game win streak on the line, while the Crimson Tide aim to avenge their loss to Georgia in the 2021 national championship.

These two programs are very familiar with each other, which only adds to the drama. UGA head coach Kirby Smart served under Nick Saban at Alabama for nine seasons before taking the helm in Athens.

Saban is 4-1 against Smart, including a 2-0 record in the SEC title game.

The winner of Saturday’s matchup will have a good chance at a playoff spot. If the Bulldogs lose, however, it’s possible the SEC is left out of the playoffs entirely.

Nick Saban butters up Georgia, previews SEC championship

Alabama head coach Nick Saban lays the praise on Georgia football ahead of the SEC championship game

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban heavily praised the Georgia Bulldogs ahead of the 2023 SEC championship game. Saban and Alabama overcame an early season loss against the Texas Longhorns to finish the year 11-1. Alabama is coming off a miraculous win over the Auburn Tigers.

The Crimson Tide need a win in the SEC championship and may need some help in order to make the College Football Playoff. Nick Saban is already making a case for the Crimson Tide to get in the College Football Playoff if they beat Georgia.

Joel Klatt: ‘No way the SEC Champ doesn’t go’ to the CFP

Is there a chance the SEC Champion doesn’t make the College Football Playoff? Joel Klatt argues it’s not possible.

As the four-team era of the College Football Playoff comes to a close with the 12-team format taking over in 2024, there’s a chance history is made. Some experts predict scenarios that do not feature any SEC teams. This has never happened before and likely won’t happen under the evolving format.

If No. 1 Georgia wins the SEC Championship over No. 8 Alabama, then the Dawgs would likely hang on to the top spot in the rankings and ride that into the playoffs. However, if the Crimson Tide win in upset fashion, there’s belief that both teams could be left out.

Joel Klatt, however, recently argued on his podcast that “there is no way that the SEC champ doesn’t go [to the playoffs]. Alabama is in in that scenario.”

What Klatt is saying is that if Alabama gets the upset, then the Tide should not be a victim of the College Football Playoff Committee pleasing the masses by playing politics with head-to-head matchups and resumes. If they want the four best teams, a one-loss Alabama team with a win over No. 1 Georgia on a neutral field deserves to be in the playoff.

SEC championship: Updated Georgia injury report ahead of Alabama

SEC Championship: Updated Georgia injury report ahead of Alabama

The matchup for the SEC title is set. No. 1Ā GeorgiaĀ (12-0, 8-0 SEC) will take on No. 8Ā Alabama (11-1, 8-0 SEC) for the conference crown on Saturday in Atlanta. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS.

Both teams enter the matchup banged up. Alabama starting running backĀ Jase McClelan will miss the game due to a foot injury suffered in the Iron Bowl last week, per a report from Bama Central’s Austin Hannon.

On the flip side, the Bulldogs are working to get back multiple key players back who missed the Georgia Tech game. Starters Tate Ratledge (knee), Ladd McConkey (ankle) and Brock Bowers (ankle), along with wideout Rara Thomas (foot), were expected to take the field after being held out last week, but comments on Thursday by head coach Kirby Smart indicate there is still more to find out regarding their injuries.

When asked about the injured offensive starters, Smart replied: “I’m trying to figure that out myself.”

“Yeah, great question because I’m trying to figure that out myself. I don’t have a lot more answers now than I had on Monday. They have not been able to do a lot. Each one has worked kind of independently. Tate has done some drill work, some 11-on-11 stuff, Brock has sprinkled in some of that. The other guys have been able to run and do some things.

But we’re going to find out today (Thursday) what their availability is, to be honest. It’s tough because it bothers me that people have said out there that we sat these guys for the last game. That wasn’t the case at all. They couldn’t go.

I don’t know if they’re going to be able to go in this game. It’s just unfortunate to have those kind of injuries, especially four starters on offense.”

Starting linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson hasn’t played since the Missouri game due to a fractured forearm and redshirt freshman Julian Humphrey hasn’t played since Ole Miss due to a shoulder injury.

Bama vs. Georgia, Washington vs. Oregon and more Championship Weekend Predictions

Championship weekend is finally here in college football, so let’s take a look at how we think it will play out.

While the Oklahoma Sooners finished their regular season at 10-2, they did not make it to the [autotag]Big 12 Championship[/autotag]. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t games that matter to the Sooners this weekend.

For instance, the [autotag]SMU Mustangs[/autotag], a team Oklahoma beat, will take on the [autotag]Tulane Green Wave[/autotag]. That matters because if SMU wins, they most likely will be ranked and represent the Group of Five in a New Year’s Six bowl game. That would go down as a ranked win for Oklahoma and boost their resume.

Also, if the Texas Longhorns win and then make the College Football Playoff, that could also boost Oklahoma’s resume and maybe get them into a New Year’s Six game as well. So, there is still a lot for Oklahoma fans to keep an eye on and cheer for this weekend.

So, let’s take a look at how I think the games will play out, and we’ll go in the order of when they will be played.

CFB experts unanimously pick Georgia over Alabama Ian SEC Championship

Experts are picking Georgia over Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

Alabama and Georgia meet again in Atlanta. Last time these two programs met in the SEC Championship game was in 2021, the Crimson Tide got the win, but fell to the Dawgs a few weeks later in the National Championship game.

This time around, the two are likely playing for a College Football Playoff spot. Georgia currently ranks No. 1 while Alabama ranks eighth in the latest polls.

ESPN college football experts Heather Dinich and Adam Rittenberg made their picksĀ (subscription required) and they are both riding with the Bulldogs.

Dinich’s score prediction is 31-21.

“Georgia’s offense is better, period. Carson Beck is in the Heisman conversation,” writes Dinich. “Kendall Milton just ran all over Georgia Tech. And the Bulldogs scored 31 points without Brock Bowers or Ladd McConkey.”

Rittenberg has Georgia winning with a score of 28-20.

“It would be peak Nick Saban to win this game with a flawed team (which should already have its second loss) and set up a CFP debate for the ages,” writes Rittenberg. “But Georgia’s defense is set up well to defend Jalen Milroe and Alabama’s big-play-reliant passing game. Beck’s efficiency and Georgia’s rushing depth shows up in the second half.”

If the Crimson Tide can pull off the upset, the CFP rankings would receive a major shakeup and many questions would need to be answered. However, for the to happen, Alabama would have to do what many aren’t expecting them to: win.
