Para la edición 2022, la Concacaf ha determinado mantener el criterio del gol de visitante para el desempate en caso de igualada en el marcador global, es decir, avanzará el equipo que más goles anote fuera de casa si el empate persiste al término de los dos encuentros.
En caso de igualada en el global y en el número de goles anotados en calidad de visitante, el criterio será la definición por punto penal como lo vimos entre Pumas, uno de los semifinalistas, y New England Revolution que igualaron 3-3 en el global, sin goles de visita por ninguno de los dos equipos y tuvieron que elegir al ganador desde los 11 pasos.
Pumas y Cruz Azul son dos viejos conocidos que han definido varios duelos decisivos en los últimos años, con sed de revancha por parte de Cruz Azul. Un clásico que sacará chispas en la capital mexicana.
Del otro lado Seattle Sounders y New York City FC llegan tras un inicio incierto en la MLS. Un equipo de la Conferencia Este y uno de la Oeste en busca de la historia de acceder a la final y pelear por la Concachampions y acceder al Mundial de Clubes, pasión de costa a costa.

The Seahawks share CenturyLink Field with the Seattle Sounders, who announced on Friday that they will not be allowed to host fans at games.
The Seattle Seahawks may be the next team to announce that they will not be allowing fans at home games in 2020.
On Friday, the Seattle Sounders, with whom the Seahawks share CenturyLink Field, e-mailed their season ticket holders to inform them that the state of Washington is prohibiting the Sounders from hosting fans this season due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Although the NFL is requiring all fans to wear masks at football games, they are leaving the issue of fan attendance up to the individual teams. The New York Giants and Jets announced on Monday that they will not be allowing fans at MetLife Stadium “until further notice” in accordance with New Jersey state guidelines. Multiple other teams, such as the Raiders and the Rams, are also considering such a policy.

LAFC (-106) has been on fire offensively, rolling up 11 goals in three Group F matches while allowing seven. The good times should continue to roll against a Sounders side which will be missing defensemen Gomez Andrade and Roldan, and possibly Arreaga. That’s not good news against an LAFC offense which has been a well-oiled machine. LAFC fell 3-1 in the most recent head-to-head match Oct. 30, 2019, but is 3-1-1 in the previous five meetings vs. the Sounders.
OVER 3.5 (+100) is the play in LAFC matches until further notice. As mentioned above, LAFC rolled up a league-high 11 goals in group play. LAFC has outscored Seattle 6-5 in the previous three meetings, and with the Sounders missing key members among their fullbacks and midfielders, we should see plenty more scoring chances for LAFC in this one.

La MLS tiene la intensión de realizar un mini torneo de verano en Orlando con los 26 equipos divididos en cuatro grupos, según reportan varias fuentes en Estados Unidos.
El formato del torneo serían tres grupos de seis equipos y uno de ocho para que cada equipo al menos dispute cinco juegos. Las cabezas de cada grupo serían el LAFC, Seattle Sounders, Atlanta United y Orlando City, según informó The Athletic.
Los dos primeros lugares de cada grupo avanzarían a la ronda de cuartos de final y así hasta conocer al campeón del torneo que se pretende organizar en las instalaciones de Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports en Florida.
Las fechas de llegada de los equipos a las instalaciones sería a mediados de junio, todos comenzarían una cuarentena y aproximadamente un mes después daría inicio la competencia.
La MLS aún tiene una tarea pendiente a resolver antes del comienzo de las concentraciones, y es que el torneo que se detuvo desde el 12 de marzo dejó sin definir las negociaciones entre la MLS y la Asociación de Jugadores (MLSPA) sobre la reducción salarial de los futbolistas agremiados para la siguiente temporada.
El tema está caliente, los primeros reportes decían que la MLS pretendía una reducción del 20% y los jugadores del 10%, pero nueva información proporcionada por ESPN, asegura que la MLS puso sobre la mesa una reducción salarial de 8.75% y la MLSPA quiere el 7.5%.
Las diferencias entre ambas partes podría complicar el comienzo del mini torneo de Orlando, pues los futbolistas no ceden y están poniendo condiciones propias para participar en el mini torneo, como por ejemplo que aquellos jugadores cuyas esposas estén embarazadas no participen en la concentración, lo cual excluiría del certamen a jugadores como Carlos Vela y Javier Hernández que esperan la llegada de bebé.
Hay muchos asuntos pendientes antes de que la MLS asegure el torneo de Orlando, pues la Asociación de Jugadores está firme en el propósito de no sacrificar el salario que la MLS pretende.
Aún hay mucha tela de donde cortar con este tema pues falta definir el reparto de ingresos proveniente de los derechos de transmisión el aumento a los contratos, protocolos de salud y seguridad, etc.
