Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon jokingly took credit for Derick Hall’s Week 7 TD

Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon jokingly took credit for Derick Hall’s Week 7 TD

Seattle Seahawks sophomore EDGE Derick Hall scored his first career touchdown in Sunday’s blowout 34-14 Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. With the Seahawks nursing a 24-14 lead, Seattle’s defense helped Mike Macdonald put the game completely out of reach when Hall recovered a Boye Mafe strip-sack for a defensive touchdown, increasing their advantage to 31-14.

Hall recently discussed his 36-yard scoop-and-score, which featured an outstanding block from cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Witherspoon jokingly took credit for springing Hall to his first-ever end-zone visit.

“I did [see Witherspoon’s block], ‘Spoon, as soon as we got off [the field], he said you’re welcome and I said thank you,” Hall joked about Witherspoon taking credit for the score. “He [Witherspoon] plays with an effort that nobody can imagine. I feel like that’s where everybody on defense team gets it from. Witherspoon flies around every single play. He’s always right there. We love this game so much. We’re all living in the moment. ‘Spoon is a very high-character guy, a leader on this team. He makes it known from time to time.”

Additionally, Hall added four quarterback pressures against the Falcons. The No. 37 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, Hall has accumulated a team-high five sacks this campaign. They’ll need his best-efforts against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills’ high-octane offense this Sunday.

Seahawks DT Jarran Reed talks dominant defensive performance vs. Falcons

Seahawks DT Jarran Reed talks dominant defensive performance vs. Falcons

Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jarran Reed helped his unit put forth a dominant performance in Sunday’s blowout 34-14 Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The Seahawks forced Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins into three turnovers, and they scored a defensive touchdown on a strip-sack. Reed credited Mike Macdonald’s adjustments for the standout showing.

“Once we came out and made our adjustments, we started stopping the run, and it gave us an ability to rush the passer,” Reed said about a Seahawks defense that racked up three sacks on Cousins. “We made some simple tweaks as far as setting the edge and playing more physical with our hands on all levels. We all rallied to the ball as tacklers.”

“We work hard every day because nobody wants to lose in this league,” Reed added about the Seahawks ending a three-game losing streak. “It’s all about how you respond, and I think we responded well.”

Reed recorded four tackles against the Falcons. He’s now accumulated 24 takedowns this season, including two sacks. The Seahawks are now preparing for the Buffalo Bills’ high-octane offense in Week 8. Picking up an upset victory may require another dominant performance against Pro Bowl QB Josh Allen.

Seattle Seahawks’ 5 highest graded players in Week 7 according to PFF

Seattle Seahawks’ 5 highest graded players in Week 7 according to PFF

Several Seattle Seahawks players put forth excellent performances in Sunday’s dominant 34-14 Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Each week, Pro Football Focus grades every qualifying player in the league. This week, the following Seahawks talents were the five highest-graded performers.

Kenneth Walker III | 87.7

Kenneth Walker III was outstanding on Sunday, rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown via 14 carries en route to averaging an effective 4.9 yards per carry. The dual-threat Walker also added two receptions for 24 yards and an additional score to his offensive totals. Seattle’s excellent running back was understandably their highest-graded player.

Derick Hall | 87.7

Derick Hall didn’t record a sack on Sunday despite already having five QB takedowns this campaign. That doesn’t mean the former Auburn standout didn’t make an impact. Hall returned a 36-yard fumble recovery on a Boye Mafe strip-sack for his first career touchdown. He also recorded four pressures.

DK Metcalf | 80.6

DK Metcalf suffered a knee injury in the victory, but he still managed to make a massive impact. The rocked-up Metcalf recorded four receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown, and even caught Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s first career passing attempt. We’ll monitor Seattle’s WR1 and his injury status ahead of a matchup with the Buffalo Bills in Week 8.

Julian Love | 79.1

With Rayshawn Jenkins on IR, and various other secondary defenders sidelined, including Riq Woolen, the Seahawks were counting on receiving a consistent performance from veteran safety Julian Love. That’s exactly what they got. Love totaled nine tackles, and more importantly, recorded his second interception of the season.

Tyler Lockett | 77.8

Tyler Lockett continues to be ole reliable. The 2015 draftee hauled in four receptions for 45 receiving yards. Lockett has recorded 45-plus receiving yards in every contest this season, minus the Week 2 win over the New England Patriots. When Geno Smith is in a bind, he scans the field for his most consistent receiving threat.

Analyzing Roy Robertson-Harris’ Seahawks debut in Week 7

Analyzing Roy Robertson-Harris’ Seahawks debut in Week 7

The Seattle Seahawks acquired veteran defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. Robertson-Harris made his Seahawks debut in Sunday’s dominant 34-14 Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. He was outstanding, proving that general manager John Schneider made a shrewd deal at the deadline.

Robertson-Harris made a season-high five tackles against the Falcons. He recorded one stuff, per ESPN Stats & Info. On this rep, Robertson-Harris completely overwhelms Pro Bowl Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews on a pressure that results in a Derick Hall sack.

Robertson-Harris played a total of 27 snaps, accounting for 37% of Mike Macdonald’s defensive snaps. Dre’Mont Jones, Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, and Byron Murphy II all out-snapped Robertson-Harris on Sunday. The Seahawks are understandably easing the nine-year pro into their defensive rotation.

Pro Football Focus credited Robertson-Harris with a 68.2 overall defensive grade, his highest of the season. He recorded one pressure (seen above) and scored a 60.6 pass-rushing grade.

The Seahawks clearly needed better depth across their defensive line throughout the three-game losing streak. Robertson-Harris is providing Macdonald’s defense with experience and productivity. The early returns on the Robertson-Harris trade have been outstanding.

Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba discusses first career passing attempt

Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba discusses first career passing attempt

Everything went right for the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday’s dominant 34-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb even showcased a willingness to deep-dive into his bag of tricks. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba completed a 35-yard pass to DK Metcalf on a trick play. Despite Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith throwing for 207 yards and two touchdowns, it was Smith-Njigba’s 35-yard completion that was Seattle’s longest passing play of the afternoon.

Smith-Njigba had fun discussing the play during the post-game media scrum at his locker.

“I count that as a passing attempt, yes,” Smith-Njigba joked following Sunday’s victory. “It’s been a minute [since I last attempted a [pass], middle school. That play call, when I’m throwing it, I said I don’t care, I’m throwing it [no matter what] and giving my playmakers a chance [to make a play on the ball],” Smith-Njigba joked about not passing up his opportunity to complete a pass. “I don’t care. I’m throwing the ball and making a play.”

Smith-Njigba has a 100% completion percentage in the NFL! All kidding aside, Grubb may reconsider drawing up another potential passing attempt for Smith-Njigba following his “no matter what” answer. Everything clicked for Seattle on Sunday.

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald offers injury update to DK Metcalf

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald offers injury update to DK Metcalf

The Seattle Seahawks took care of business with their 34-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons, and a key reason why was because of star wide receiver DK Metcalf.

On the day, Metcalf hauled in four receptions to lead the team with 99 yards, and had a crucial touchdown right before half. Unfortunately, Metcalf did have to leave the game late, when the outcome was already determined, with a knee injury. After the game, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald gave a quick update on his top receiver.

The fact when Metcalf left he was only designated as QUESTIONABLE seems to suggest Macdonald’s optimism is not misplaced. Metcalf is a large, strong, durable player. Personally, I would be a little surprised if he was not in the lineup next week against the Bills.

Macdonald did offer up additional positive injury news. Right tackle George Fant is eligible to return from the injured reserve list. Macdonald offered optimism that perhaps Fant could return to practice this week. Although Michael Jerrell performed admirably in Week 7 against the Falcons, getting Fant means better depth at the position.

Seahawks Wire will continue to update on these two players as the week progresses.

Seahawks WR’s Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are a historic duo

Seahawks WR’s Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are a historic duo

You do not need to hear it from me to understand the Seattle Seahawks have a dynamic duo at wide receiver. Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are a combo that routinely make defenses pay, and they have been doing so ever since they became teammates.

It can be easy to forget sometimes just how truly dominant these two are, which is why we at Seahawks Wire are more than happy to remind fans everywhere. Since the 2019 season, Metcalf and Lockett have combined for 86 receiving touchdowns. This is second only to the duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Not to give any disrespect to Russell Wilson, who was sublime in 2019 and 2020, but Evans and Godwin had a ridiculous advantage on their side. They had a quarterback by the name of Tom Brady throwing them the ball. You know, simply the greatest of all time. No big deal.

Lockett and Metcalf routinely prove themselves each week by being forces to be reckoned with. So far on the year, Metcalf has 31 receptions for 469 yards and two touchdowns. As for Lockett, he has hauled in 26 catches for 339 yards and a score as well.

Seattle will need both playing a high level if they want any chance at escaping Atlanta with a road victory.

Seahawks rookie Michael Jerrell to start at right tackle vs Falcons

Seahawks rookie Michael Jerrell to start at right tackle vs Falcons

For the Seattle Seahawks, no position has suffered more injury than their right tackle spot. From the beginning, the Seahawks were dealing with diminished capacity, as starter Abe Lucas began the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He is still on the PUP list as of this article’s publication.

His back up, George Fant, became injured in Week 1, and was later placed on Injured Reserve. Now, his backup, Stone Forsythe, is out for the Week 7 showdown in Atlanta. The NFL is a total “next man up” kind of league. Well, the next man up is rookie Michael Jerrell.

Originally a sixth round selection by the Seahawks in the 2024 NFL draft, Jerrell was the only Division II player chosen. The Findlay prospect had options to transfer to larger schools, but decided to stay. Largely seen as a project, Seattle felt he was worthy of a draft choice to mold into something.

So far, Jerrell made it through the offseason, he made it onto the active roster, and is now going to enjoy his first start in the league. Interestingly, he had been made inactive for every single game this season up until last week. Jerrell was chosen instead of veteran Jason Peters, who won’t be elevated off the practice squad this week.

When asked, head coach Mike Macdonald gave a glowing endorsement to his new starting right tackle.

“He had a great week of prep, the guy has just kept improving since he’s gotten here.” Macdonald declared. “He has come such a long way in less than a year, so I’m proud of him. He’s got a great opportunity, I know he’s excited, and I’m excited to see him go do his thing. The game has slowed down for him tremendously. I know he’s working his tail off, and he’s banked a lot of great one-on-one reps against our ones in practice. He’s got a bright future, and hopefully this is the start of it.”

Seahawks rule Riq Woolen, Tre Brown and Stone Forsythe OUT for W7

Seahawks rule Riq Woolen, Tre Brown and Stone Forsythe OUT for W7

The Seattle Seahawks will attempt to end their current three-game losing streak incredibly short handed, once more. The team is headed to the Big Peach to play the Atlanta Falcons, who are as hot as ever at the moment.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks are going to be without two key contributors in the secondary, and one of their starting offensive linemen. Injuries have decimated Seattle’s offensive line, as the team started the season behind the proverbial eight ball to begin with Abe Lucas on the PUP list.

Now, third-stringer Stone Forsythe is out.

The Seahawks have ruled out four players for Sunday’s game in Atlanta. They are as follows:

  • CB Riq Woolen
  • CB Tre Brown
  • T Stone Forsythe
  • S Jerrick Reed II

Jerrick Reed was recently activated off the PUP list, so it is not surprising he is not able to go on Sunday. Once activated, Reed had a 21-day window to qualify for the active 53-man roster. This has clearly not happened yet.

Seattle’s secondary has a tall task ahead of them. Thankfully, rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II will return. The Seahawks are in desperate need of his services, and will happily add him back into the lineup.
