For the second straight week, running back Godwin Igwebuike has been elevated from the practice squad.

For the second straight week, running back Godwin Igwebuike has been elevated from the practice squad.

Igwebuike made his Seattle debut last week against the Panthers and was one of only a handful of bright spots. He gave a shot in the arm to a return game that’s made very few splash plays this season. Igwebuike returned three kickoffs against Carolina, beginning with a 50-yarder. He totaled 104 yards in all, averaging 34.7 per attempt.

That’s the best the Seahawks’ return game has looked in a long time, so he’ll be given another championship opportunity tonight. By comparison, Deejay Dallas has averaged 22.5 yards per attempt this year.

Igwebuike will be out of practice squad elevations after this, so Seattle will need to cut somebody from the 53-man roster next week if they want to give him the KRO job long-term.

Treadwell (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) was a former first-round pick by the Vikings in 2016. As a rookie, Treadwell saw just three targets and he never really caught on in Minnesota. After only scoring three touchdowns in four seasons the Vikings let his rookie contract expire. He signed with the Falcons in 2020 and appeared in five games with them that year. He spent last season with the Jaguars, posting a career-high 434 receiving yards in 12 games, but still only managed to score one touchdown.

Just before the 2022 season began Jacksonville released Treadwell. He spent about a month on the Patriots’ practice squad earlier this year, followed by a couple of weeks on the Cardinals’ practice squad.

All together, Treadwell has played in 70 career NFL games, totaling 104 catches, 1,184 yards and five touchdowns.

Seahawks announce release of two players from their practice squad

Fans should expect a couple of players to be returning to the active roster soon.

The Seattle Seahawks front office was busy yesterday. They hosted several free agent defensive backs for visits and also cleared some room on their practice squad.

On Tuesday the team announced that running back Godwin Igwebuike and linebacker Christian Jones have been released from the practice squad.

Jones has played in several games for Seattle this season but is out of practice squad elevations. The Seahawks also have two open spots on their active roster, so it’s possible they will re-sign Jones there.

There may not be room, though. Fans should expect a couple of players to be returning to the active roster soon. Running back Travis Homer has missed the last four weeks with a significant rib injury but he’s now eligible to return from the injured reserve list and is expected to practice this week. Also second-year cornerback Tre Brown (on injured reserve) may not be far behind.

The Seattle Seahawks are working out free agent wide receiver Easop Winston today, according to a report by Doug Kyed at Pro Football Focus. Winston played his college ball at Washington State, where he posted 137 catches, 1,624 yards and 19 touchdowns in 26 games.

Winston (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) has played three games in the NFL, all with the Saints last season. All together he was on the field for 14 offensive snaps and 23 on special teams. Most of his work came as a punt returner and he averaged a strong 11.9 yards on 10 attempts. That experience is likely the main reason why the Seahawks are interested.

Seattle has been seeking extra depth at linebacker since the 2022 season began, bringing in several groups of free agents but passing on most and giving none meaningful playing time. Perhaps signing Irvin will finally end that cycle.

Irvin (6-foot-3, 250 pounds) may not be the disruptive force he used to be, but he offers a ton of experience. All together he’s played in 127 NFL games, with 60 of them coming in Seattle. After leaving in 2015, he spent three years with the Raiders, followed by one each with the Panthers, Falcons and Bears.

To make room for Irvin, they are releasing former Washington State left tackle Liam Ryan.
