Luke Willson visiting with Seahawks this week

Former Seahawks tight end Luke Willson will visit the team later this week, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Former Seahawks tight end Luke Willson will visit the team later this week, according to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network.

Willson was a fifth-round pick by Seattle in the 2013 NFL draft. He spent five seasons with the Seahawks, followed by one in Detroit before returning to the Seahawks in 2019. Last season, he played a few games with Seattle before finishing the year in Baltimore.

All in all, Willson has played in 102 regular season games, totaling 111 catches, 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Willson has never been a star tight end, but bringing him back could help out the Seahawks at a position of need. Colby Parkinson has re-injured his foot and will be out a while, even if he doesn’t require surgery. Gerald Everett and Tyler Mabry are also dinged up at the moment.

The Seahawks would have to make room for Willson – today’s moves brought the roster total to 80 players.

Seahawks announce release of TE Dominick Wood-Anderson

This roster move wasn’t hard to see coming.

This roster move wasn’t hard to see coming.

A lot of Seahawks players struggled in last night’s preseason loss to the Broncos, but none failed harder than tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson, who has been released by the team.

Wood-Anderson was flagged for penalties five times against Denver – at least that’s when we stopped counting.

Seattle has until Tuesday afternoon to get the roster down to 80 players, then there will be one more round of cuts after the final preseason game.

Seahawks injury updates: QB Geno Smith has cleared concussion protocol

Good news: Smith has apparently cleared the concussion protocol and is back at practice, per head coach Pete Carroll.

Geno Smith took a scary hit in last week’s preseason opener against the Raiders. The Seahawks’ No. 2 quarterback left the field soon after and was eventually ruled out with a concussion.

Good news: Smith has apparently cleared the concussion protocol and is back at practice, per head coach Pete Carroll.

“He had a really good couple of days, and he’s back on the field today. We’re really happy that he made it through it, so he’s clear.”

However, Carroll said he’s not sure if Smith will suit up for Saturday night’s home game against the Broncos. Carroll was also mum on the possibility of starters playing. Even if Russell Wilson is active, it’s unlikely he will get a lot of snaps given the state of Seattle’s offensive line. That should give the coaching staff more time to evaluate backups Alex McGough and Sean Mannion.

Carroll also offered injury updates on a few other players.

Wide receivers Penny Hart (ankle) and Dee Eskridge (toe) are not expected to play. Neither is center Ethan Pocic (hamstring). Offensive tackle Jamarco Jones (back) should be out there, while defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche could go either way.

Seahawks DB Ryan Neal on free agent K.J. Wright: ‘I miss him dearly’

They aren’t the only ones who miss having No. 50 around, either.

K.J. Wright played linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks at a high level for the last 10 years. At the moment he’s a free agent and a lot of fans are eager to see him re-signed for another year. They aren’t the only ones who miss having No. 50 around, either.

Speaking at his post-practice press conference yesterday, safety Ryan Neal said he misses Wright and his mentorship dearly.

“I mean I miss him dearly. I mean like I said, that was my teacher, you know that was my mentor. When I did end up getting the starting job and, you know, the gameplan was just coming fast at me. . . So I come up here 6 in the morning and K.J. was going through film just teaching me how he sees the game, teaching me how to do my drops and just what to see, what to look at, what to key, and that was my guy man, that was my teacher, so I miss him a lot.”

Wright’s football IQ and instincts are as good as any defender in the league, but it’s not just his intelligence that’s valuable – Wright can still ball and his peers recognize it. He recently made his first appearance on the NFL Top 100 list, debuting at No. 67.

Bring him back!

Seahawks ‘being careful’ with WR Tyler Lockett’s groin injury

Coach Pete Carroll told the media yesterday that he’s dealing with a groin injury and the team is “being careful” with it.

The Seahawks got several players back at practice yesterday, including Dee Eskridge and Rashaad Penny. They’re still not 100% as we get closer to the start of the 2021 season, though.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett has been working off to the side at practice the last few days. Coach Pete Carroll told the media yesterday that he’s dealing with a groin injury and the team is “being careful” with it.

Lockett posted a career-high 100 catches last season to go with 1,054 yards adn 10 touchdowns. He’s a crucial part of Seattle’s offense, so going slow with his recovery at this point in the calendar is the right call. Don’t expect to see Lockett in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Broncos.

Seahawks, Jamal Adams agree to terms on 4-year, $70 million deal

The Jamal Adams contract saga is finally over.

The Jamal Adams contract saga is finally over.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Seahawks and their star strong safety have come to an agreement on a new four-year, $70 million deal. The contract includes $38 million in guarantees.

Adams had been staging a “hold-in” at training camp – by showing up but not practicing – in the hopes of getting $40 million in guarantees, but Seattle’s front office had apparently dug in and made their final offer. With the threat of franchise tags in 2022 and 2023 hanging over him, Adams ultimately did not have enough leverage.

The new deal makes Adams the highest-paid safety in the NFL by a comfortable margin. The previous champ was Justin Simmons of the Broncos, whose deal averaged $15,250,000 a year.

90 to 85 man roster cuts begin: Seahawks waiving linebacker Nate Evans

According to a report by Brady Henderson at ESPN, the team has informed linebacker Nate Evans he’s being released.

NFL teams have to trim their rosters from 90 players down to 85 by 1:00 pm PT tomorrow. The Seattle Seahawks have made their first cut.

According to a report by Brady Henderson at ESPN, the team has informed linebacker Nate Evans he’s being released.

Evans played his college ball at UCF and went undrafted. Seattle acquired him off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars back in May. He played a total of 39 snaps in Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Evans posted five tackles.

Seahawks injury updates: Colby Parkinson, Dee Eskridge, Travis Homer

Today, coach Pete Carroll shared updates on a few of them.

The Seahawks have a long list of players who are banged up heading into the preseason. Today, coach Pete Carroll shared updates on a few of them.

First, the bad news. Second-year tight end Colby Parkinson has re-injured the foot that he broke last year and is going to be out for a while.

Parkinson had been getting some positive buzz during training camp, so this is unfortunate. Seattle should be fine at tight end as long as Gerald Everett and Will Dissly hold up, though.

On the bright side, the team’s first draft pick this year should be returning to the field soon. D’Wayne Eskridge suffered a toe injury in the spring that put him on the PUP list to begin camp, but he’s expected to come off it next week as well as running back Travis Homer.

In an ideal world, Eskridge will eventually win the WR3 spot behind D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. He could also be in the mix as a kick returner.

Seahawks re-sign Marshawn Lynch in preparation for 49ers

The Seahawks added a familiar face after injuries slammed their running back depth chart ahead of their showdown with the 49ers.

The Seahawks’ biggest losses Sunday to Arizona were announced after the game. Head coach Pete Carroll said both of Seattle’s top running backs, Chris Carson and CJ Prosise, are out for the season. This came on the heels of Seattle losing another top back, Rashaad Penny to a torn ACL vs. the Rams two weeks ago.

Seattle’s answer to their running back woes came in the form of a running back all-too familiar for 49ers fans. Marshawn Lynch is back in Seattle for Week 17 and beyond according to his agent:

Lynch last played in 2018 when he spent six games with the Raiders. The 33-year-old ran 90 times for 376 yards and three touchdowns a season ago. Now he’s back after nearly an entire season off.

The 11-year veteran is familiar with returning after a hiatus. He didn’t play in 2016 before returning to the Oakland Raiders in 2017 and 2018. Lynch was effective in 21 games with Oakland. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry on 297 attempts with 10 touchdowns on the ground.

It’s unclear how big his role will be after getting just a week of practice in, but his familiarity with quarterback Russell Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll should make him a quick enough study that he’ll see time against the 49ers.

San Francisco’s had trouble with Lynch in his career. He’s averaged 4.5 yards per attempt on 221 carries with seven touchdowns in 11 regular season games against the 49ers in his career.

However, he’ll be significantly less dangerous than he was in his prime, and the 49ers will likely see rookie sixth-round pick Travis Homer more often than they see Lynch.

Still, the man they call ‘Beast Mode’ being back in a Seahawks uniform will only electrify an already raucous crowd, and the 49ers will have to account for him when he is in the game.

Seattle also re-signed 2012 fourth-round pick Robert Turbin according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Turbin has also not been on a roster at all in 2019. He spent three years in Seattle, half a season each in Dallas and Cleveland, and three years in Indianapolis. He’s rushed for 3.8 yards per carry and nine touchdowns in 355 career carries.

5 crazy stats from Rams’ 28-12 win over Seahawks

The best stats and facts to come out of Sunday’s game at the Coliseum.

The Rams are moving in the right direction again, rattling off two straight victories over NFC West opponents. Their biggest win of the season came on Sunday night against the Seahawks, beating the division leaders 28-12 at the Coliseum.

They still have a lot of work to do and need to win at least two of their last three games to have a chance, but before we look too far ahead, let’s revisit some awesome stats from Sunday’s win over the Seahawks.

First time Rams have beaten Russell Wilson in prime time

The Rams have faced Russell Wilson 16 times since he came into the NFL and have had more success against him than any other team has. They’re the only team he’s faced at least four times and has a sub-.500 record against, going 7-9 against the Rams.

Surprisingly, this is the first time Los Angeles has beaten Wilson in prime time. It was the fourth time they’ve squared off under the bright lights, including twice this season. Previously, the Rams lost to the Seahawks in 2016 on Thursday night, as well as a Monday night game in 2013.
