These 11 players from the 2021 squad have yet to be signed by a new team.

The Seahawks have re-signed the majority of their free agents, including Quandre Diggs, Al Woods and Rashaad Penny. There are still a few important pieces out there who suited up for Seattle last season that remain free agents now just two weeks removed from the 2022 NFL draft.

Seahawks: Grading second wave of 2022 free agent signings, re-signings

The second week of free agency is coming to a close and the Seahawks are likely done making significant moves.

The second week of free agency is coming to a close and the Seahawks are likely done making significant moves. If you factor in what it will cost to sign their 2022 draft class, the team now has less than $10 million in effective cap space for this coming season.

While it would be nice to see Seattle make a splash signing at some point in our lifetime, it doesn’t mean this free agent class is bad. We mostly gave them high grades for their first wave of signings and re-signings last week. Now, let’s hand out more grades for the second wave.

Seahawks to meet top free agent OT Trent Brown tomorrow

The Seattle Seahawks are scheduled to meet with free agent offensive tackle Trent Brown on Thursday, according to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN.

The Seattle Seahawks are scheduled to meet with free agent offensive tackle Trent Brown on Thursday, according to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN.

Brown (6-foot-8, 380 pounds) was a seventh-round pick by the 49ers back in 2015. Between the Niners, Raiders and Patriots he’s started 69 games in his career, mostly at right tackle. However, he also has experience playing left tackle for New England.

Once Orlando Brown Jr. got hit with the franchise tag by the Chiefs, Trent Brown became the top offensive tackle hitting the market this year. For what it’s worth, we named him our favorite free agent target for Seattle earlier this offseason.

At the very least, Brown would be a massive upgrade over both Brandon Shell and Jake Curhan, who split reps at right tackle last season. Shell started the season and played relatively well, but suffered a shoulder injury and only played 10 games. Curhan showed ability as a run blocker but struggled in pass protection. Shell just became an unresticted free agent half an hour ago.

Meanwhile, Brown earned high grades from PFF in both pass blocking (81.2) and run blocking (70.4) during the 2021 season.

Whether the plan would be for him to take over at right tackle or replace Duane Brown at left tackle, either way Brown would be an incredible get.

Seahawks agree to two-year deal with Chargers OLB Uchenna Nwosu

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Seahawks have agreed to a two-year deal with Chargers EDGE Uchenna Nwosu.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, the Seahawks have agreed to a two-year deal with Chargers EDGE Uchenna Nwosu.

Nwosu (6-foot-2, 251 pounds) was a second-round pick by LA in the 2018 NFL draft. He’s played in 62 games, posting 15 sacks and 45 QB hits. He turned 25 years old in December.

For what it’s worth, Pro Football Focus gave Nwosu a solid 68.5 pass rush grade for the 2021 season.

Just because they’re signing Nwosu doesn’t necessarily mean Seattle is done adding edge defenders this offseason. There are still several high-profile free agents available who would fit their new, more aggressive scheme and the 2022 NFL draft class is also deep at this position.

4 free agents from the Bears that could fit in new-look Seahawks defense

Now, let’s examine some potential additions from Chicago’s defense that might fit this vision.

The Seahawks seem to be in the market for a very particular kind of defense. Today, we learned that Seattle is promoting assistant head coach and defensive line coach Clint Hurtt to defensive coordinator. Additionally, the team is hiring Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell for an as-yet unnamed senior role. The team is also hoping to add Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai to their staff, likely taking over Andre Curtis’ former role as defensive passing game coordinator.

The common denominator for all three of them is that they all spent time together on Vic Fangio’s staff when he was head coach of the Bears. We’ve already taken a look at a few Broncos defensive backs who are pending free agents that might follow Donatell to Seattle. Now, let’s examine some potential additions from Chicago’s defense that might fit this vision.

1 pending free agent each NFL team should bring back in 2022

But if we were in charge, these are the players we’d keep — one per team as decided by the NFL Wire staff.

NFL contracts not signed beyond 2021 expire at 4 p.m. ET March 16, meaning that teams have from the end of the season until that time to sign their pending free agents to contract extensions. A few will get tagged (the franchise tag period begins Feb. 22), some will get extensions, but it’s a good bet most of the players set to reach unrestricted free agency will do so.

Seahawks: 9 pending free agents they should re-sign in 2022

Here are nine of their own players who are about to become free agents that should be re-signed.

Some fans of the Seahawks want to blow the whole thing up after this disastrous 2021 season is over. It’s tough to blame them, especially after the team blew a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter for the second time this year in Sunday’s stunning loss to Chicago.

The instinct to fire Pete Carroll and John Schneider, trade Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner and restart next year with a totally clean slate is a tempting one, but ultimately too risky. It’s also the least-likely scenario we’re going to see this offseason. Carroll says he and team owner Jody Allen agree that the franchise doesn’t need a restart. For now, we have no reason not to believe him.

There’s more good news for fans of keeping this group intact – the Seahawks will have plenty of salary cap room in 2022 to retain all of the pending free agents they want to and sign a couple of marquee names, as well.

Some major roster changes are needed – most notably upgrading the offensive line and the edge rotation. However, there are some vets still worth keeping around. Here are nine of their own players who are about to become free agents that should be re-signed.

The Seahawks are going to have a boatload of salary cap space in 2022, even after they’ve re-signed key pending free agents of their own like starting free safety Quandre Diggs. Right now, they’re projected to have nearly $56 million in cap room, which should be enough to sign a couple marquee names.
