Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes comment on Chiefs’ unique 2024 schedule

The Kansas City Chiefs schedule release had many critics wondering how the two-time defending Super Bowl champions can achieve the infamous three-peat. Kansas City is expected to play six days out of the week, with Tuesday being the only game-free day.

On the last day of the first week of organized team activities, the Chiefs opened their practice to the media and addressed the first session along with other topics, including the new schedule.

“It’s the first time in my career that it’s that unique (schedule). So you know how we are. I mean, we don’t really care,” said Reid. “They could give us a Tuesday game. If they want, we’ll be okay there too. We’ll work through it and we’ll play anybody anywhere, whatever. Whatever they want to do, we’re on board.”

Patrick Mahomes shared his thoughts on the new schedule, also taking the high road and using it as fuel to test the team’s unity throughout the year.

“[I] feel like our schedule has gotten crazier and crazier every single year,” Mahomes explained. “It’s just about preparing for the week ahead of you. We know that we’re going to have a lot of primetime games, and we’ve built up the equity to be in those games. Now it’s about how can we find a way to be better than last year at the end of the season.

“We learn from our mistakes from last year, trying to motivate ourselves to get ourselves healthier and faster, and then go out there and win those games because there are a lot of great football teams we play at the end there. I’m trying to be better on Christmas.”

The Chiefs will notably return to play on Christmas Day as the first-ever Netflix-only game. They will be on the road this time to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers as they seek to even their record on that day following last year’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Chiefs to face Steelers on Christmas, game to be exclusively streamed on Netflix

The Kansas City #Chiefs will face the Pittsburgh #Steelers on Christmas in 2024, and the game will be streamed exclusively on Netflix.

The 2024 NFL schedule is set for official release tonight, but the Kansas City Chiefs have already had a few of their most exciting matchups leaked.

After finding out that the defending Super Bowl champions will face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 and the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2, fans were excited to see that the Chiefs are now set to square off against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas day.

Clearly, the league is giving Kansas City top billing for their title defense campaign. It expects the Chiefs to provide an exceptional experience for viewers at every stage of the 2024 season as they endeavor to win a third consecutive Super Bowl.

Kansas City is expected to play the Christmas game on the road, but their matchups in Weeks 1 and 2 will both be played at Arrowhead Stadium.

No team in the NFL will have a bigger target on its back than the Chiefs, and the late-season matchup against the Steelers should prove to be one of the most exciting games on Kansas City’s schedule.

Chargers schedule: Predicting the 2024 prime-time matchups

This year, we are predicting four games.

The Chargers’ 2024 schedule will be announced on Wednesday as part of the NFL’s coordinated league-wide release event. Several matchups could wind up as potential primetime games for the team. While the Bolts are coming off of a disastrous 5-12 season, I could still see them being slated for a healthy amount of primetime games, with Jim Harbaugh now in LA and Justin Herbert still at quarterback.

At the time of schedule release last year, the Chargers were scheduled to have six primetime games. A bumpy 2023 will knock that number down, but I’d expect LA to still be in the mix for some high-priority games. For now, I’m going to predict four games that get the primetime treatment.

vs. Chiefs (Sunday Night Football)

2023 marked the first time since 2020 that a Chargers-Chiefs matchup didn’t wind up in primetime. Granted, one of the games was a Week 18 contest that didn’t matter much for either team. But I’d expect one of the matchups this year to get on national television.

Herbert and Patrick Mahomes’ last three primetime matchups have all been decided by one score each. Outside of one other potential game on this list, there’s no other matchup where I feel more confident in getting the late-night treatment.

vs. Ravens (Thanksgiving night game)

Maybe this one’s a little bold! The last time the Chargers played on Thanksgiving was seven years ago against Dallas at AT&T stadium. What better way to celebrate family and brotherhood than a Thanksgiving Harbowl?

Jim and John Harbaugh did coach against each other once on Thanksgiving in 2011 before their famous Super Bowl matchup in the following season. Also, a nightcap with Herbert vs. Lamar Jackson is one way to keep me awake after the turkey tryptophan makes me sleepy.

@ Raiders (Monday Night Football)

Despite both teams perhaps not being considered strong playoff contenders this year, it feels like, somehow, the Chargers/Raiders always ends up being a primetime affair. From the play-in playoff game a few years ago to last year’s evisceration of Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco on Thursday Night Football, there’s always something eventful between LA and Las Vegas.

Herbert and Harbaugh look to restore the Chargers’ glory and avenge last year’s 63-21 loss in Vegas.

vs. Bengals (Monday Night Football)

In the vein of the Ravens and Chiefs QB matchup picks on this list, Justin Herbert vs. 2020 draft classmate Joe Burrow feels like another potential primetime showdown. Herbert and Burrow have only played once against each other back in the 2021 season.

Dolphins vs. Bengals, Eagles vs. Dolphins, and Dolphins vs. Chargers. The NFL loves building out their 2020 draft class rivalries. Herbert vs. Burrow is an opportunity to continue doing just that as both teams try to make the playoffs.

Report: Super Bowl rematch between Chiefs and 49ers set for Week 7

The regular season rematch of the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and 49ers has reportedly been set.

While the NFL Schedule for the 2024-25 season is set to be officially released on Wednesday, dates and weeks for certain games are beginning to leak, including one of the most highly-anticipated contests on the San Francisco 49ers’ schedule for the upcoming campaign.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the regular season rematch of Super Bowl LVIII between the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs is set for Week 7. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady is slated to be on the call for the Super Bowl rematch, per Schultz.

Via @brgridion on Twitter:

The Chiefs are coming off a 25-22 overtime win over the 49ers in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII in Feb.

Along with Week 7’s opponent being reported, the 49ers know who they will be playing in Week 1. On the opening week of the new season, the 49ers will welcome Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets to Santa Clara for Monday Night Football on Sep. 9.

Who should be the Commanders’ Week 1 opponent?

Who do you want to see the Commanders open the season with in 2024?

The 2024 NFL draft is over. The next big date on the NFL calendar is the schedule release. The NFL could reveal any time over the next two weeks. Last week’s schedule was released on May 11, but some bigger games were revealed before the official date.

The Washington Commanders will be a more attractive option for prime-time watching in 2024. There is a lot of excitement around general manager Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn, but that is more on a local level from the team’s fans.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels makes the Commanders more appealing on a national level in 2024, which likely means more prime-time games. Last year, Washington began the Josh Harris era at home against the Arizona Cardinals.

Could the NFL open the 2024 season with the Commanders at home again — against a more appealing opponent?

What if the NFL schedule pitted Daniels — the No. 2 overall pick — against the Chicago Bears and No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams? A home date against the Bears is on the 2024 slate.

That would be a fun way to begin the season with two dynamic young players who will likely always be compared to one another.

Here’s a look at all of Washington’s 2024 opponents:

HOME

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • New York Giants
  • Chicago Bears
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Carolina Panthers
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Tennessee Titans

AWAY

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • New York Giants
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Which opponent do you want to see Washington play in Week 1?

The last three times the Bears and Commanders have played, the game was in prime time for no good reason. Two years ago, it was an ugly Thursday night affair that ended with a 12-7 Washington win. Last year, on Thursday night, the Bears jumped on the Commanders early and won by 20.

Finally, there is actual intrigue in this series. Should it be a Week 1 opener or get the prime-time spotlight?

NFL.com predicts the outcome of every Commanders’ game in 2023

We made our predictions, did NFL.com agree?

How good can the Washington Commanders be in 2023? We know Washington has a difficult schedule, but it’s also favorable with extra rest in some stretches. Therefore, predicting a team’s win/loss record by each game can feel a bit pointless in May, but it’s still fun.

Commanders Wire predicted every game shortly after the schedule was released over two weeks ago. We arrived at an 8-9 record, which felt fair. The Commanders have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. For Washington to be more than an average team in 2023, it will need quarterback Sam Howell to prove he’s the guy, and new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy takes the offensive production up a level or two.

Washington’s 2023 team feels like it could win anywhere between 7-10 games.

Adam Rank of NFL.com recently weighed in on the Commanders’ 2023 schedule, predicting every game. He’s not high on Washington’s chances, predicting a 5-12 record. Let’s review each week to see where Rank saw the wins and losses.

Predict Tampa Bay’s win-loss record in 2023

Vote in our poll to make your prediction for the Bucs’ 2023 season:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2023 schedule has been officially released, but there were always questions about this Tampa Bay team regardless of who it would play.

The team enters 2023 without quarterback Tom Brady and with much less of the attention that came with him under center. The team has just two prime time games — one on Monday Night Football against the Eagles and another Thursday Night Football game against the Bills — and a pseudo-prime time game against the Jaguars at 4:05 p.m. on Christmas Eve in Tampa Bay. Most of the team’s slate is back to the 1 p.m. timeslot it has been used to in recent years, so the NFL itself doesn’t seem to think much of Tampa Bay.

The Bucs are set to play the AFC North (Jaguars, Titans, Texans, Colts) and the NFC North (Packers, Lions, Bears, Vikings) in 2023, with a first-place schedule for its at-large games due to winning the NFC South the previous year (49ers, Eagles, Bills). There are certainly some tough games on the schedule, and a few unknowns, too — the Bucs are also set to play against the first three rookie QBs drafted in the 2023 draft in Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson.

Tampa Bay’s quarterback situation is its most unknown, with both Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield set to compete for the starting job. The team was able to retain a few core key agents, but new draft picks and FA signings will see a bit of a new-look Bucs this upcoming season.

With all that in mind, what record do you think this team will post in the 2023 season? Vote in our poll below:

CBS ranks Commanders/Cardinals dead last for Week 1 games

Week 1 could feature Sam Howell vs. Colt McCoy, who’ve been linked together over the last week.

[connatix div_id=”3f8b015acdd24c648befc5d5dac47469″ player_id=”afe1e038-d3c2-49c0-922d-6511a229f69c” cid=”7cbcea0d-4ce2-4c75-9a8d-fbe02a192c24″]

The 2023 NFL schedule is here. While we already knew which teams would play, now we know when.

The Washington Commanders open the 2023 season with a Week 1 home game against the Arizona Cardinals. And, for the first time since the 1998 season, Washington will be without owner Daniel Snyder, who reached an agreement to sell the team to a group led by Josh Harris.

FedEx Field should be rocking as the Commanders hope some of the team’s former fans return to cheer on Washington again.

So, while local interest should be at an all-time high, this matchup is not one of the more exciting Week 1 matchups. It isn’t a marquee quarterback matchup, with Sam Howell expected to make his second career start against the Cardinals with Colt McCoy under center in place of the injured Kyler Murray.

Cody Benjamin of CBS ranked all Week 1 games, and he had Washington/Arizona dead last at No. 16.

Unless Kyler Murray makes miraculous strides in his injury recovery, Colt McCoy is set to captain an overhauled Cardinals team against an annually middling Ron Rivera squad that’s counting on former fifth-rounder Sam Howell as its new signal-caller. Not exactly a recipe for fireworks.

I guess we shall see.

Patriots schedule: Looking at New England’s 2023 opponents

Looking at where the Patriots’ 2023 opponents finished last season.

The road to the postseason could be a long and winding one for the New England Patriots heading into the 2023 season.

One look at the long list of expected playoff contenders on their regular season schedule is enough to drive even the most optimistic fans mad. With 17 games total, the Patriots are slated to face at least nine teams that clinched a playoff berth in 2022.

It’s a huge challenge that’s going to take a herculean effort from both players and coaches to overcome.

Can coach Bill Belichick turn the defense into an impenetrable beast to deal with all of the explosive offenses the Patriots will be facing? Can quarterback Mac Jones grow into his role well enough to get his team over the hump? Will the addition of Bill O’Brien at offensive coordinator make a big enough difference?

There are a lot of questions ahead for the Patriots when tackling this monstrous schedule. Let’s take a look at how their opponents finished last season:
