San Jose Sharks at Dallas Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Jose Sharks at Dallas Stars odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (3-9-3) and Dallas Stars (8-4-1) meet Friday at American Airlines Center in Dallas. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Sharks vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Sharks suffered a 5-3 setback in St. Louis Thursday to kick off a 4-game road trip. San Jose’s last victory came Oct. 27 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime, and its most recent win in regulation was Oct. 23 in Philadelphia. San Jose enters 0-2-3 in the past 5 outings.

The Stars were drummed 5-1 at the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday, splashing cold water on the team’s tremendous offensive progress. Dallas entered the ‘Peg with a 3-game win streak, outscoring the opposition 18-6 during the span.

Sharks at Stars projected goalies

James Reimer (2-5-2, 2.88 GAA, .910 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Jake Oettinger (5-1-0, 1.40 GAA, .952 SV%, 1 SO)

Reimer started out all right, but he has hit the skids lately. Optimus Reim has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his past 4 starts, going 0-2-2 with a 3.68 GAA and .881 SV%. Reimer was 1-1-0 with a 1.22 GAA and .960 SV% in 2 starts vs. Dallas last season.

Oettinger is tentatively scheduled to play for the first time since Oct. 29, when he exited with a lower-body injury against the New York Rangers. He was able to return to practice Thursday, an encouraging sign he is ready to return.

Oettinger has been amazing when healthy, allowing 2 or fewer goals in each of his 7 starts, and 1 or no goals in 4 of his outings, including a 27-save shutout against the Washington Capitals Oct. 27.

Sharks at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 5, Sharks 2

Moneyline

The Stars (-220) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s a little on the risky side, with or without Oettinger in the crease.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The STARS -1.5 (+110) are a much better value on the puck line, especially if Oettinger doesn’t have any setbacks and is given the green light.

Even if Scott Wedgewood is forced to start again, Dallas is a good play here. Wedgewood is 3-1-0 with a 2.51 GAA and .919 SV% in 4 starts in November since taking over for the injured Oettinger.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-112) is worth a look here.

If Oettinger is able to return, he could be a little rusty after a 2-week layoff. The Stars have been on fire offensively lately, cashing the Over at a 4-0-1 clip across the past 5 outings.

The Over is 6-0-1 in the previous 7 contests for the Sharks while hitting at a 4-0-1 pace in the past 5 against Western Conference foes.

San Jose Sharks at Philadelphia Flyers odds picks, and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s San Jose Sharks at Philadelphia Flyers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (1-6-0) limp into Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Flyers (4-1-0) Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Sharks vs. Flyers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Sharks have struggled out of the gate in starting the season. Coming in on the 2nd day of a back-to-back, the Sharks lost 2-1 at the New Jersey Devils Saturday.

For the Flyers, an early season run has them with 4 wins in their first 5 games, including Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Nashville. G Carter Hart (4-0) is undefeated for the Flyers this far, but he will get a needed rest Sunday as G Felix Sandstrom will start.

Sharks at Flyers projected goalies

James Reimer (1-3-0, 2.78 GAA, .918 SV%) vs. Felix Sandstrom (0-1-0, 4.32 GAA, .889 SV%)

Reimer lost his first 3 starts of the season, yielding 9 goals on 110 shots, but he picked up a win Thursday at the New York Rangers. The 13-year veteran from Manitoba finished with 21 saves on 23 shots in the Sharks’ 3-2 OT win at Madison Square Garden.

While the Flyers’ Hart is one of the best goalies in the NHL early this season, they will have to turn to Sandstrom Sunday after Hart was in net Saturday for the Nashville win. Sandstrom has played once this season, allowing 4 goals on 35 shots in a 4-3 loss at Florida Wednesday — the Flyers’ only loss so far.

Sharks at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Flyers 4, Sharks 2

Moneyline

BET FLYERS (-130).

Although it would be better for the Flyers to have Hart in goal, the Sharks are struggling. The Flyers defense has been solid, and with the Sharks, who are playing a 2nd road game in 2 days, I do not see them beating the Flyers.

Puck line/Against the spread

BET FLYERS -1.5 (+180) for a HALF UNIT … or divvy up 1.5 units between this and the Philly ML (-130).

With the Sharks’ struggles, the environment in Philadelphia could be a bit much for them. With the Philadelphia Phillies’ MLB playoff game ending as this NHL game is about to start, the hype if the Phillies win — which would put them in the World Series — will be palpable in the stands of this one. The energy will be massive, and this should allow the FLYERS to COVER the –1.5 (+180) number.

Over/Under

AVOID.

Both goalies give up goals, but both teams have struggled in recent days in scoring.

With the Sharks losing 2-1 and the Flyers winning 3-1 Saturday, both teams will be looking to get through the second leg of a back-to-back schedule with teams intact. I can see this game finishing at 2 goals or 7 goals. I’ll just AVOID the hassle.

San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s San Jose Sharks at New York Rangers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (0-5-0) try to stop their skid against the New York Rangers (3-1-0) Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Sharks vs. Rangers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Not much has gone right for the Sharks, and their travel schedule has been brutal. They played the first 2 games overseas in Prague, followed by 2 games at home before traveling to the Eastern Conference for 4 games. This is the 2nd game of that trip. San Jose has scored 8 goals in 5 games, and it gets to face one of the best goalies in the league Thursday.

The Rangers have been solid with only a 4-1 setback at the Winnipeg Jets as the only blemish on their record. They’ve scored at least 3 goals in all games but that one. LW Artemi Panarin leads the league with 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists). C Mika Zibanejad isn’t far behind with 8 points (4 goals, 4 assists).

Sharks at Rangers projected goalies

James Reimer (0-3-0, 3.05 GAA, .919 SV%, 0 SO) vs. Igor Shesterkin (3-0-0, 2.68 GAA, .905 SV%, 0 SO)

Poor Reimer. He hasn’t been bad, but he is facing an average of 37 shots a night. The blue line in front of him is simply not good. His .919 SV% is actually ahead of Lightning G Andrei Vasilevskiy and his Thursday counterpart G Igor Shesterkin — the 2 best goalies in the league. Reimer hasn’t faced the Rangers since 2019.

Shesterkin hasn’t had to be great. He allowed 4 goals in a 6-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks and 3 goals in a 7-3 victory at the Minnesota Wild. His numbers are a little sketchy, but he locks in when necessary. He has had a couple of days to freshen up since the Anaheim game Monday, and I look for him to be stingy Thursday.

Sharks at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 3, Sharks 1

Moneyline

There aren’t a lot of sound options to bet on this game. I think the Sharks will break through for their first win soon, but it’s not coming against Shesterkin. I also don’t foresee the Rangers shelling Reimer, who has had to be in midseason form with the frequent fire coming at him.

Let’s take the SHARKS UNDER 2.5 TOTAL GOALS (-150).

Puck line/Against the spread

I like the Sharks to hang around, but -108 isn’t enough incentive with the danger of an empty-netter crushing that bet.

PASS.

Over/Under

I LOVE the Under here. The Under is 4-1 in the Sharks’ last 5 games against Eastern Conference foes and it’s 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these sides in New York.

HAMMER the UNDER 6.5 (-125), and I’d consider taking UNDER 5.5 (+127) as well. I don’t see San Jose scoring more than 2 goals on Shesterkin, and this really should be a 5.5 number.

San Jose Sharks at New York Islanders odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Jose Sharks at New York Islanders odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (0-4-0) and the New York Islanders (1-1-0) meet Tuesday at UBS Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Sharks vs. Islanders odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Sharks have struggled during the early going, managing just 6 total goals over their 4 losses. San Jose has been getting those frequent flyer miles, playing in Prague, then back in San Jose, and now in New York, all in the course of just 12 days.

The Islanders had a power outage in the opener against the Florida Panthers, falling 3-1 in front of the home faithful. New York took its frustration out on the Anaheim Ducks Saturday in a 7-1 victory. The Isles should face another easier time against a lesser Western Conference foe here.

Sharks at Islanders projected goalies

James Reimer (0-2-0, 3.07 GAA, .924 SV%) vs. Ilya Sorokin (1-1-0, 1.52 GAA, .941 SV%)

Reimer has been a lot more consistent than Kaapo Kahkonen during the early going, as the veteran has a .924 SV%, as opposed to just .814% for the younger netminder. Kahkonen just coughed up 5 goals to Chicago last time out, so Reimer really has a chance to seize the No. 1 job and hold it a while.

Sorokin allowed 2 goals Thursday against Florida in a loss, but it was a lack of offensive support that doomed him. That wasn’t the case Thursday as he barely broke a sweat turning aside 22 of 23 shots against the Ducks.

Sharks at Islanders picks and predictions

Prediction

Islanders 3, Sharks 1

Moneyline

The Islanders (-220) are a little on the expensive side, costing more than twice as much as your potential return. That’s too risky, even if the Sharks are struggling to score.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

Play the ISLANDERS -1.5 (+125) for a much better value, although it wouldn’t be shocking to need an empty-net goal to get over the hump here.

Reimer has actually been pretty decent for the Sharks, so the Islanders won’t be able to just show up and expect to win. San Jose is winless, but 2 of its losses were 1-goal games.

Over/Under

Take UNDER 5.5 (-103) in this one, as San Jose has had a power outage all season. You can’t blame the Sharks, either, as they had a difficult overseas trip, then back to the West Coast for 2 contests, and now a trip to Eastern Daylight Time. That’s enough to make anybody tired.

The Sharks have lit the lamp just 6 total times across 4 games, cashing the Under in 3 of them. Look for another Under result here.

Carolina Hurricanes at San Jose Sharks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Carolina Hurricanes at San Jose Sharks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Carolina Hurricanes (1-0-0) and San Jose Sharks (0-2-0) meet Friday at SAP Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hurricanes at Sharks, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Hurricanes opened with a 4-1 win Wednesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets behind Frederik Andersen, as the Great Dane made 31 saves. Carolina started off with 43 shots on goal in the victory.

The Sharks are back on North American soil for the 1st time after losing back-to-back games in Czechia against the Nashville Predators. San Jose was outscored 7-3 in the first 2 games.

Hurricanes at Sharks projected goalies

Frederik Andersen (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .969 SV%) vs. James Reimer (0-1-0, 3.07 GAA, .903 SV%)

Andersen and the Hurricanes slipped behind 1-0 against the Blue Jackets Wednesday, as Patrik Laine beat the veteran in the 1st minute of the 2nd  period to open the scoring. That was all Columbus could manage against the veteran.

Optimus Reim allowed 3 even-strength goals in Prague against the Preds while making 28 saves. He faced his former team twice last season, going 1-1-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .942 SV%.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Hurricanes at Sharks picks and predictions

Prediction

Hurricanes 3, Sharks 1

Moneyline

The Hurricanes (-210) will cost over 2 times your potential return, and that’s risky business. Carolina lost last season’s meeting in San Jose. While the Canes are expected to roll in this game, as the Sharks haven’t offered much resistance during the early going, there is just no value betting a ML this high.

PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The HURRICANES -1.5 (+115) is a much better play on the puck line, although it might take a late empty-net goal to get this bet across the finish line. Expect the Sharks +1.5 (-140) to play with a little extra intensity trying to spoil the homecoming of veteran D Brent Burns, too.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+107) is worth a roll of the dice here. The Under is 9-4 in the last 13 for Carolina against the Pacific Division.

The Under went 6-1 in the final 7 home games for the Sharks, while going 20-6 in the last 26 against Metropolitan Division opponents.

Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Nashville Predators (1-0-0) and San Jose Sharks (0-1-0) play the second game of the NHL Global Series at 02 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Predators vs. Sharks, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Sharks picked up right where they left off against the Predators last season. After being swept in all 3 meetings last year, while getting outscored 12-1, San Jose fell 4-1 in the opener Friday.

The feel-good moment for the Sharks was when Prague native C Tomas Hertl scored their lone goal midway through the first period to level the score 1-1.

The Predators had 4 different scorers light the lamp, scoring 3 even-strength goals and an empty-netter by C Matt Duchene to put a bow on the scoring.

Predators vs. Sharks projected goalies

Kevin Lankinen (8-15-6, 3.50 GAA, .891 SV% in 2021-22 w/CHI) vs. Kaapo Kahkonen (14-14-4, 2.87 GAA, .912 SV% in 2021-22 w/MIN and SJ)

Lankinen faced the Sharks twice last season as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, going 1-1-0 while allowing 8 goals on 56 shots, good for a 3.84 GAA and .857 SV%.

Kahkonen came over to the Sharks mid-season from the Wild. He faced the Predators 3 times, going 0-2-1 with a 3.39 GAA and .892 SV%, allowing 10 goals on 93 shots.

Predators vs. Sharks picks and predictions

Prediction

Predators 5, Sharks 4

Moneyline

NASHVILLE (-180) is a little on the expensive side, but the Predators have owned the Sharks in recent seasons, winning 5 consecutive meetings and 7 of the past 8.

Puck line/Against the spread

SAN JOSE +1.5 (-170) should have a much better showing against Lankinen, and you can expect a little more firewagon hockey in this game. We saw the Sharks look a little sluggish in Friday’s game, except for the Hertl goal and early energy. With a pair of backups in the crease on both ends, this one will be a close, and high-scoring, game.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (+110) is worth playing lightly. We have a pair of backup backstops in the crease, and both Lankinen and Kahkonen struggled in 2021-22.

The Under cashed in Friday’s game, but that was thanks mostly due to G Juuse Saros and his dominance. He will be resting with the back-to-back, and there will be many more scoring opportunities for the Sharks.

The Over is a robust 6-2 in the past 8 NHL Global Series games overseas dating back to Oct. 2017, and it’s worth playing here.

San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Jose Sharks vs. Nashville Predators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators open the regular season at 02 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Sharks vs. Predators, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

These 2 teams played 3 times in the regular season in 2021-22, and most of the outings were forgettable for the Sharks. San Jose lost all 3 meetings, picking up just 1 point in a 1-0 OT loss in Nashville April 12.

The Predators outscored the Sharks 12-1 in the 3 regular-season meetings, as Juuse Saros stopped all 45 shots he faced in the final 2 meetings for a pair of shutouts, including an 8-0 spanking March 5 at home.

Sharks vs. Predators projected goalies

James Reimer (19-17-10, 2.90 GAA, .911 SV%, 1 SO in 2021-22) vs. Juuse Saros (38-25-3, 2.64 GAA, .918 SV%, 4 SO in 2021-22)

Optimus Reim made just 1 start against the Predators last season, and it was a good one. He allowed just 2 goals on 25 shots in a 3-1 loss in the Music City, as he received little offensive support.

Saros treated the Sharks rudely in 2021-22, posting a 3-0-0 record with a 0.33 GAA and .986 SV% with 2 shutouts.

Sharks vs. Predators picks and predictions

Prediction

Predators 3, Sharks 1

Moneyline

It’s a different venue, but the result will be the same. NASHVILLE (-190) is a little on the expensive side, and right at my personal limit for an ML bet.

Expect the Sharks to come out with a lot of energy, especially C Tomas Hertl, who will be playing in his hometown. However, as the game goes along, look for talent to take over.

The Preds are going to be a playoff team this season, while the Sharks will be in the mix for the top pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Puck line/Against the spread

NASHVILLE -1.5 (+125) is a better value play than the ML. Reimer saw the Preds just once last season – on the road – and he allowed the 2 goals, with one empty-netter in the end. It should be deja vu but this time in Prague as the Sharks offense is expected to be rather toothless again.

Over/Under

The BEST PLAY on the board is UNDER 5.5 (+112).

The last time we saw games overseas thanks to the 2019 NHL Global Series, the Over edged the Under 2-1 in 3 games. Plus, the Over is 6-1 in the past 7 overseas games since October 2017.

However, we haven’t had a dominant goalie like Saros in these games, especially against a team he has handled so well in the recent past.

Below, we look at the Sharks vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Sharks would like to forget what happened Wednesday night as they were chased out of Arizona, 5-2, by the last-place Coyotes. San Jose has now traded wins and losses in the last four games, and they’re 5-4-1 in the last 10.

The Avalanche keep rolling despite injuries starting to pile up. Already down LW Gabriel Landeskog, C Nathan MacKinnon gave them a scare after he appeared injured in a fight a couple of nights ago. He has been given the green light to return. The Avs are 6-3-1 in the last 10 and are coming off a 2-1 thriller against the Calgary Flames.

Sharks at Avalanche odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:12 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Sharks +280 (bet $100 to win $280) | Avalanche -370 (bet $370 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Sharks +1.5 (+100) | Avalanche -1.5 (-125)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: +105 | U: -130)

Sharks at Avalanche projected goalies

Kaapo Kahkonen (12-9-3, 2.92 GAA, .910 SV%) vs. Pavel Francouz (12-3-1, 2.53 GAA, .918 SV%, 2 SO)

Kahkonen has five starts this month, and he lost all of them. The 25-year-old Finn gave up four goals in four of the five. He was solid in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Avs earlier this year when he stopped 35 of 38 shots. He was playing more often then, though, as he was in a strong January with a 2.33 GAA. He has regressed since.

Francouz may be the best backup in the league. He has been a little more beatable, though, with three goals allowed in three straight. He gave up three to these Sharks on March 18 while making 25 saves in a 5-3 win.

Sharks at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Sharks 2

Money line

PASS.

It’s rare you’ll place a money-line wager in an Avs game unless it’s an underdog against them. The Sharks are not that team. PASS.

Against the spread

The Avs have have been a bit better on the puck line recently. They have six wins in the last 10, and four of them have been by two goals or more.

The Sharks have scored 3.0 goals per game over the last 10, but they’ve faced some weaker teams in there. They’re not that good offensively, and that’s going to be something they’ll need to address in the offseason to get back into the playoff picture. Colorado has only scored 2.8 goals per game over the last 10, but they have had a lot of premium players in and out. They get one back Wednesday.

This is a prime spot and a good price for them to break out. Take the AVALANCHE -1.5 (-125) for a full unit.

Over/Under

Colorado is just 3-7 on the Over in the last 10 games as they have been struggling with injuries. Meanwhile, the Sharks are putting up three goals per game in that stretch. The Over is 4-1-1 in the Sharks’ last six games and the Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings with these two teams. In a game featuring backup goalies, this one should be fast and furious. Let’s use the recent Under trend to our advantage at plus-money.

LEAN to the OVER 6.5 (+105).

San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (22-22-4) travel to meet the Anaheim Ducks (24-19-9) Tuesday at Honda Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Sharks vs. Ducks odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Sharks are in a six-game tailspin, including three losses in regulation and three setbacks in overtime dating back to Jan. 26. San Jose has won four of the past five trips to Anaheim, and the road team is 5-0 in the past five in this series.

The Ducks are also struggling mightily, going 1-4 in the past five games overall, 1-5 in the past six inside the division and 1-10 in the previous 11 games against Western Conference teams.

Sharks at Ducks projected goalies

James Reimer (13-11-4, 2.91 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO) vs. John Gibson (16-13-8, 2.77 GAA, .913 SV%, 1 SO)

Reimer is winless across his past six starts, and he is 0-2-2 with a 3.51 GAA and .840 SV% in four starts in the month of February, allowing at least three goals in each of the outings.

Gibson picked up a win last time out at Vancouver Saturday, but he is just 1-3-0 with a 5.51 GAA and .824 SV% in four February outings, yielding at least four goals in each of the starts.

Sharks at Ducks odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Sharks 4, Ducks 3

Money line

The SHARKS (+122) are worth a look in this road outing as San Jose looks to snap a six-game winless streak. Facing the Ducks (-150) might just be what the doctor ordered as San Jose is 4-1 in the past five skates on The Pond in Anaheim. The road team has cashed in five straight in this series, too.

Against the spread

The Sharks +1.5 (-205) will cost you over two times your potential return if you would like a little insurance, and that’s just too steep of a price.

PASS, and focus on the money line.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-125) is the way to go here as both netminders have been extremely giving lately. Yes, the Under is 5-1-1 in the past seven meetings, but sometimes trends are made to be broken. The Over has hit in four straight for the Ducks, and that is expected to continue against Reimer. Gibson has allowed 19 goals across four February starts, so the Sharks offense should find plenty of blood in the water here.

San Jose Sharks at Washington Capitals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s San Jose Sharks at Washington Capitals odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Jose Sharks (21-19-2) travel to meet the Washington Capitals (23-11-9) Wednesday at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Sharks vs. Capitals odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Sharks are coming off a 7-1 blowout loss Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning and have now dropped four of their last five games. San Jose won the final two games of its four-game road trip with victories in Buffalo Jan. 6 and Philadelphia Jan. 8 last time it traveled east.

The Capitals were on the short end of a 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights Monday, their fourth straight game decided by 1 goal. Washington is 2-2 across those outings, splitting the Over-Under in those contests too.

Sharks at Capitals projected goalies

Adin Hill (9-11-1, 2.78 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Ilya Samsonov (13-4-3, 2.77 GAA, .903 SV%, 3 SO)

Hill came on late in the first period of that blowout loss to the Lightning in place of the ineffective James Reimer. He allowed 3 goals on 18 shots, but the damage was already done.

Samsonov has lost all three of his starts in the month of January, going 0-2-1 with a 4.09 GAA and .869 SV%. He allowed 3 goals on 31 shots last time out against the visiting Vancouver Canucks Jan. 16.

Sharks at Capitals odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 4, Sharks 1

Money line

The Capitals (-210) will cost you more than two times your potential return, and that’s risky with a team that has been rather erratic lately.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread

The CAPITALS -1.5 (+122) are a strong play at home Wednesday. Yes, the last four games have been decided by 1 goal, but the Sharks have had a lot of difficulties scoring goals lately. San Jose has 10 total goals in the past five outings, and six of those came Jan. 17 against Los Angeles.

The Capitals won 4-0 in San Jose Nov. 20 as the Under connected the last time these teams played.

Over/Under

UNDER 5.5 (+100) is a nice play due to the aforementioned offensive struggles of the Sharks. The Under has cashed in six of the last eight games for San Jose while hitting in each of the last two for Washington.

The Under is also 11-5 in the last 16 games on the road for the Sharks, while hitting in five of their last six against Eastern Conference foes.
