San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco Giants (25-25) and Milwaukee Brewers (27-23) play the 2nd game of a 4-game set at American Family Field Friday. First pitch is at 8:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Brewers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Giants lead 3-1

The Giants took Game 1 of the series 5-0 as -131 favorites Thursday. San Francisco used 6 different pitchers in a bullpen game shutout. OF Michael Conforto went 4 for 4 with a solo home run. The Giants are 8-2 over the last 10 games and 6-2 against the NL Central.

The Brewers had just 4 hits and struck out 13 times in Thursday’s series opener. They have lost 6 of 10 and are 13-17 over the last 30. They are still clinging to a 1½-game lead in the NL Central. The Brew Crew are 15-10 at home but just 8-9 against left-handed starters, which they’ll face Friday.

Giants at Brewers projected starters

LHP Alex Wood vs. RHP Freddy Peralta

Wood (0-0, 4.05 ERA) is scheduled to make his 6th start and 7th appearance of 2023. He has a 1.45 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 in 20 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K in 7-5 home victory vs. Miami Marlins Sunday
  • One start vs. Brewers over last 4 years: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 0 ER (3 unearned), 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 8-5 home win July 15, 2022

Peralta (5-3, 4.15 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 in 52 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 4 K in 6-4 victory at Tampa Bay Rays Sunday

  • 1 career start vs. Giants: No-decision in “opener role,” 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 4-2 home win Sept. 8, 2022

Giants at Brewers picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 6, Brewers 4

Moneyline

This will be an interesting one because Thursday was a bullpen game for the Giants, and Wood hasn’t gone more than 4 2/3 IP in his last 8 starts, going back to last season. On the other side, Peralta has allowed 3 or more earned runs in 4 of his last 7 starts.

Neither team has a good bullpen — the Giants are the 5th-worst in baseball at 4.70 even after 9 shutout innings Thursday. So, this will be a battle of the lumber in what I’d expect to be a closed roof at 58 degrees in Milwaukee.

The Giants are 4-0 in Wood’s last 4 starts vs. the NL Central, and they’re 4-1 in his 5 starts this season.

I’ll take the GIANTS (+115).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is a prop bet that stands out, however. So, Wood has not struck out 6 hitters in a start this season. Is it possible he goes 5 or 6 innings and fans 7? Sure, he did it in his start against Milwaukee last season. But I’m going to stick with recent history, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this prop bet nerfed to 4.5 before first pitch.

Take ALEX WOOD UNDER 5.5 K’S (-125).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The forecast calls for 58 degrees in Milwaukee, which means the roof should be closed. There are a lot of Under trends here. It’s 5-0 in the last 5 head-to-head meetings in Milwaukee and 9-4 in the last 13 overall.

However, the Over is 2-0-2 in the last 4 home starts for Peralta when the number is between 7.0-8.5, and it’s 5-0-2 in hist last 7 starts at such a total. Plus, the Over is 3-0-1 in Wood’s last 4 Friday starts.

With the state of San Fran’s bullpen, and Peralta handing out earned runs, I’m going to LEAN OVER 8 (-105) as I feel the total should be a little higher.

San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco Giants (24-25) and Milwaukee Brewers (27-22) open a 4-game series Thursday at American Family Field. First pitch will be at 7:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Brewers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Giants lead 2-1 but have only outscored the Brewers 13-12.

The Giants have won 7 of their last 9 games to pull closer to the .500 mark on the year, recently sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies before taking 2 of 3 apiece from the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins. They’re still 6 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, but they’re creeping up on the division leaders.

The Brewers took 2 of 3 games from the Houston Astros in their most recent series after losing back-to-back 2-1 series at the Tampa Bay Rays and at the St. Louis Cardinals. Milwaukee’s offense has only scored 205 runs, which ranks 23rd in the majors (entering Thursday), while the pitching staff’s 4.05 ERA is the 12th-best.

Giants at Brewers projected starters

LHP Scott Alexander vs. TBD

Alexander (4-0, 4.42 ERA) makes his 1st start of the season after coming out of the bullpen 21 times. He has a 0.98 WHIP, 2.0 BB/9 and 4.4 K/9 through 18 1/3 innings.

  • Of his 21 relief appearances this season, Alexander has never pitched more than 1 1/3 innings in a single outing.
  • He’s only allowed 1 earned run and 2 hits in May, posting an ERA of 1.23 this month across 7 1/3 innings in 8 games.

As of this publishing, the Brewers have not named Thursday’s starter. An MLB.com report claims they agreed to a 1-year deal with RHP Julio Teheran, who will possibly get the nod. The 32-year-old right-hander hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021.

  • 2023 minor-league stats: 4-2, 5.63 ERA (40 IP, 25 ER), 1.68 WHIP, 10.1 K/9, 3.6 BB/9 in 8 starts for Triple-A El Paso (Padres)

Giants at Brewers picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 4, Brewers 3

Moneyline

The Giants are playing some good baseball right now, having won 7 of their last 9 games. And though they’ll have Alexander on as their opener in this one, I still like their chances to beat the Brewers, who are near the bottom of the league in runs scored.

BET GIANTS (-125) to win outright on the road in the series opener, having taken Game 1 of their last 4 series.

Run line/Against the spread

Without knowing the Brewers’ starter, I don’t love either side of the run line. The Giants aren’t exactly crushing teams right now, with 3 of their last 7 games being won by 1 run. The Brewers have also played relatively well in their last 2 games, winning 4-0 and 6-0.

PASS on the run line and instead stick to the money line.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The total has gone Under in 4 of the Giants’ last 5 series openers, according to Covers. Neither of these offenses is exactly humming at the moment and both rank in the bottom third of the league in runs scored, so this could be a lower-scoring game than the Over/Under indicates.

BET UNDER 9 (+100) at even money.

Season series: Giants lead 4-1

Giants at Brewers projected starters

LHP Scott Alexander vs. RHP Corbin Burnes

Alexander (0-0, 1.69 ERA) makes his 6th appearance and 1st start of the season, and just the 2nd start of his 8-year career. He has a 0.56 WHIP, 0.0 BB/9 and 10.1 K/9 in 5 1/3 IP.

  • Has been getting strikeouts in this year’s small sample, but over the previous 3 seasons had a low 5.2 K/9 in 59 appearances
  • This will be a short stint for Alexander, who hasn’t topped 20 pitches in an outing all season. He’ll give way to Jakob Junis, who has gone 5-plus innings just twice in his last 8 starts with a 5.40 ERA over that span

Burnes (9-6, 3.02 ERA) makes his 28th start. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 11.0 K/9 in 164 IP.

  • Has faced the Giants twice already, allowing just 1 ER in 14 IP with a 21/5 K/BB.
  • Boasts a 3.28 ERA and 12.2 K/9 in 14 home starts, but has had some issues with the long ball (1.4 HR/9) in Milwaukee.

Giants at Brewers picks and predictions

Prediction

Brewers 5, Giants 3

Money line

Burnes has been dominant throughout most of the season, but has hit a rough patch. He has allowed 14 ER in 15 1/3 IP in his last 3 starts and until we see him regain his form, laying more than 2:1 is a bit too steep. PASS on the money line.

Run line/Against the spread

Though Burnes has struggled lately, he should get back on track in short order. He is in a good spot to do so against a San Francisco team that has been reeling.

Junis has been better than his recent ERA would suggest, as a .354 BABIP played a role in his inflated ERA during the aforementioned 8-start span. But he probably won’t provide a lot of length and Milwaukee hits well at home, ranking 9th in runs per game (4.64). Look for the BREWERS -1.5 (+105) to come out on top by multiple runs.

Over/Under

The over is 7-1-2 in the last 10 games for the Giants and has hit in each of Burnes’ last 4 starts. Burnes hasn’t been at his best lately and can’t be counted on to completely shut the Giants down, so look for this total to push OVER 7.5 (-115).

San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (11-5) and Milwaukee Brewers (10-6) meet for a solo game at American Family Field Monday. First pitch is slated for 6:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Brewers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: first meeting. Milwaukee outscored San Francisco 27-25 in taking four of seven games against the Giants in 2021.

San Francisco is coming off a three-game series sweep at the Washington Nationals. A scheduling oddity due to the season’s one-week delay has this Giants-Brewers meeting being shoehorned into Monday and then a one-day doubleheader Sept. 8.

The Brewers defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 1-0 Sunday and have won six of their last seven games. Sunday’s contest was a night game, so the Brewers have a slightly quicker than usual turnaround for this away contest.

Giants at Brewers: Projected starters

LHP Sam Long vs. RHP Corbin Burnes

Long (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is making his second start of the season in his fifth appearance. He owns a 0.64 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 through 4 2/3 IP.

  • Threw 2 shutout frames in his last start at Washington April 22.
  • Clocked a 5.53 ERA in 40 2/3 IP last season.

Burnes (1-0, 2.37 ERA) makes his fourth start. He has a 0.79 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 10.4 K/9 through 19 IP.

  • Has gone 7 IP in each of his last two starts with a combined 18 K against just 1 BB and 2 ER.
  • Has held opposing batters under a .565 OPS across his last 21 starts at home.

Run line/Against the spread

The San Francisco bullpen is better set up for this game. Milwaukee has a left lean to its lineup and has thus far struggled against left-handed pitching with a .545 OPS.

TAKE THE GIANTS +1.5 (-140).

Over/Under

Both bullpens are good but likely too far over their skis with the early-season numbers being hoisted. There is some growth potential in the numbers for both offenses also.

BACK THE OVER 7.5 (+110).
