San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (41-41) and the San Diego Padres (49-36) play the third contest of a 4-game set at Petco Park in San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Padres lead series 6-2

The Giants are looking to at least gain a split in this 4-game set after losing the first 2 games. San Francisco has been outscored 8-4 in the first 2 games.

The Padres have won 2 in a row, bouncing back after a 1-8 skid in the previous 9 outings. San Diego enters play 20-8 in the past 28 against a left-handed starting pitcher.

Giants vs. Padres projected starters

LHP Carlos Rodon vs. RHP Yu Darvish

Rodon (7-5, 2.87 ERA) makes his 17th start of the season. He has a 1.11 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 11.1 K/9 through 91 IP.

  • Is 3-4 with a 3.46 ERA with a .215 opponent batting average in 52 IP across 9 road starts.
  • Allowed 2 ER, 5 H and 4 BB with 6 K across 6 IP in a loss against the Padres May 21 in San Francisco.

Darvish (7-4, 3.53 ERA) makes his 16th start of the season. He has a 1.01 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 8.1 K/9 through 94 1/3 IP.

  • Is 4-1 with a sparkling 1.75 ERA across 46 1/3 IP in 7 home starts with 45 K and a .163 opponent batting average.
  • Was tagged for a season-high 9 ER and 8 H in a season-low 1 2/3 IP in a loss at San Francisco April 12.

Giants vs. Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 5, Padres 3

Money line

The GIANTS (-110) are the play based on how they handled Darvish in the first outing. The veteran right-hander just didn’t stick around very long, and he barely broke a sweat before getting knocked out of the game. San Francisco is still a risky play, as it is just 1-8 in the past 9 games overall, and 0-4 in the past 4 vs. teams with a winning overall record.

Run line/Against the spread

The Padres +1.5 (-205) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return if you’re looking for a little insurance. It’s just not worth it.

PASS.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-122) is the play, as that’s an awfully low total.

The Over is 5-2 in the 7 games for the Giants, while going 5-1 in the past 6 following a loss.

For the Padres, while the Under is 4-1 in the past 5 against winning teams, the Over is 4-1 in the past 5 at Petco, and 4-0-1 in the past 5 at home vs. LHP.

San Diego Padres at Cleveland Guardians odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Cleveland Guardians odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (15-8) open a two-game interleague series with the Cleveland Guardians (10-12) on Tuesday at Progressive Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Guardians odds with MLB picks and predictions.

These two teams haven’t met since July 4-6, 2017 in Cleveland, when San Diego won the series with two victories in three games.

The Padres, tied for first place in the National League West, have picked up nine victories in 13 games on the road. Overall, the Padres have a plus-20 run differential, too.

The Guardians are in second place in the American League Central, just 3.5 games off the pace despite a sub-.500 record. They also have a division-best 101 runs scored, and enter on a three-game win streak.

Padres at Guardians projected starters

RHP Mike Clevinger vs. RHP Zach Plesac

Clevinger will make his first start since Oct. 6, 2020, a playoff appearance against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

  • Clevinger is making his way back from Tommy John surgery, which shuttered his entire 2021 campaign.
  • Clevinger came up with the Cleveland organization, and went 41-20 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 10.2 K/9 from 2017-20.

Plesac (1-2, 3.80 ERA) makes his fifth start. He has a 1.31 WHIP, 1.69 BB/9 and 5.06 K/9 through 21.1 IP.

  • Plesac makes his third start at Progressive Field. He has a 1-1 record and 2.25 ERA across 12 IP in two home outings, while posting a 5.79 ERA in two road starts.
  • Plesac has just one win in five decisions across eight interleague starts during his career, including a loss to San Francisco on April 15.

Padres at Guardians picks and predictions

Prediction

Guardians 5, Padres 4

Money line

The GUARDIANS (+115) are a solid value at home in this interleague series opener. Clevinger was once a dominant pitcher, and he still very well could be for the Padres (-140). But you can expect some jitters, and a little bit of rust, too, as he faces his former team.

Cleveland is aiming to equal its season best with four straight victories, and it will do just that as short ‘dogs at home.

Run line/Against the spread

If you’re not feeling the GUARDIANS +1.5 (-140) straight up, and would like some insurance, the price isn’t out of line to bet the home side catching a run-and-a-half.

Cleveland won in Plesac’s most-recent start at home against the Chicago White Sox April 21, cashing as underdogs with a similar number in a 6-3 win. Look for more of the same here.

Over/Under

The OVER 7.5 (-130) has cashed in three of the past four home games for the Guardians. And while the Padres hit the Under in Sunday’s series finale in Pittsburgh, the Over is 6-1 across the past seven overall for San Diego.

Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Atlanta Braves (5-5) and the San Diego Padres (5-5) finish off a four-game set at Petco Park on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Braves vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Atlanta grabbed a 2-1 series lead with another 5-2 victory over San Diego Saturday. Braves SP Ian Anderson went 5 2/3 IP, allowing just 1 ER on 2 H and 1 BB with 7 K. Braves 1B Matt Olson was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and pushed his batting average (BA) up to .412.

Braves at Padres: Projected starters

RHP Bryce Elder vs. RHP Yu Darvish

Elder (1-0, 4.76 ERA) earned a win in Atlanta’s 16-4 beatdown of the Washington Nationals Tuesday. He threw 5 2/3 IP, allowing 3 ER on 6 H with 0 BB and 4 K. This is Elder’s first season in the MLB.

Darvish (0-1, 10.57 ERA) got shelled his last time out in San Diego’s 13-2 loss at the San Francisco Giants Tuesday, surrendering 9 ER in just 1 2/3 IP on 8 H and 2 BB with 2 K. Darvish’s form was the polar opposite Opening Day when he held the Arizona Diamondback hitless over 6 IP April 7.

  • 2021 vs. Braves: Loss, 2-1, on 5 2/3 IP with 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB and 3 K July 20.
  • vs. Braves on the current roster: 2.24 FIP with a .159 BA, .231 wOBA, .277 expected slugging percentage, 30.4 K% and 81.4 mph exit velocity in 92 plate appearances.

Braves at Padres prediction and picks

Prediction

Braves 4, Padres 3

Money line

BET the BRAVES (+110) because they have been better in the three most important phases of the game. Atlanta has a higher WAR than San Diego in both starting and relief pitching and hitting, according to FanGraphs.

There’s also reverse line movement headed in Atlanta’s direction. The Braves opened at +125 ML underdogs have been lowered down to the current price even though more than three-fourths of the action is on the Padres, per Pregame.com.

It’s a red flag whenever sportsbooks make the more popular side cheaper, especially with Darvish on the mound because most casual baseball fans view Darvish as a “top of the rotation” starter.

However, aside from Darvish’s brilliant Opening Day performance, he’s been terrible since the MLB enacted the sticky substance policy June 21, 2021. From there on out last season, Darvish was 1-9 with a 6.25 ERA and got pummeled by San Francisco earlier this week.

BET the BRAVES (+110).

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for $15 OFF a Draft Prep or full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 4/30/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

PASS because the Braves +1.5 (-190) is a little out of my price range and I am not going to chase the value of Atlanta’s alternate RL with the rookie hurler on the mound.

For what it’s worth, Atlanta is 31-13 RL as a road underdog since the beginning of last season and San Diego 32-37 RL as a home favorite.

Over/Under

Slight LEAN to the UNDER 7.5 (-125), if at all, because the oddsmakers are trying to entice more pro-Over money but heavily juicing the Under.

This is a Pros vs. Joe’s scenario in the betting market because more money is on the Under but more bets have been placed on the Over.

Typically, you want to follow the money since the professionals put up more dough than the average Joe so the cash column is considered the sharp side.

However, it’s only a LEAN to the UNDER 7.5 (-125) because I’m not high on either starter and there’s a ton of firepower in both lineups.

Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (4-3) host the Atlanta Braves (3-4) Thursday for the start of a 4-game set at Petco Park. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Braves vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Atlanta lost the rubber match of a 3-game home set versus Washington Wednesday 3-1, but the Braves outscored the Nationals 19-18 in the series.

San Diego dropped its 3-game series at the San Francisco Giants earlier this week despite winning the opener. The Padres were outscored 17-7.

The Braves beat the Padres 4-2 in last year’s regular-season series, outscoring San Diego 27-21.

Braves at Padres: Projected starters

RHP Charlie Morton vs. RHP Joe Musgrove

Morton (1-0, 3.38 ERA) picked up a win in his first start of 2022, beating the visiting Cincinnati Reds Friday. He threw 5 1/3 IP with 2 ER on 2 H, 1 BB and 5 K in a 7-6 victory.

  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 5.28 FIP with a .235 batting average (BA), .349 wOBA, .591 expected-slugging percentage (xSLG), 20.0 K% and 90.2 mph exit velocity (EV) in 60 plate appearances (PA).

Musgrove (0-0, 3.00 ERA) got a no-decision in San Diego’s 5-2 victory at the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday. He went 6 IP, surrendering 2 ER on 5 H with 0 BB and 8 K.

  • 2021 vs. Braves: No-decision across 5 IP with 3 ER on 7 H, 3 BB and 9 K in 1 home start.
  • vs. Braves on the current roster: 5.34 FIP with a .333 BA, .429 wOBA, .503 xSLG, 19.4 K% and 91.3 mph EV in 72 PA.

Braves at Padres prediction and picks

Prediction

Braves 6, Padres 2

Money line

GIMME the BRAVES (-110) for 1 unit because there’s reverse-line movement (RLM) headed towards Atlanta and I give the Braves the edge in the pitching matchup.

More than 60% of the money is on San Diego, according to Pregame.com, but Atlanta has gone from a slight underdog on the opener to a pick ’em. It’s a red flag whenever sportsbooks make the more popular team cheaper.

Morton should have an easy time maneuvering around San Diego’s lineup, which is missing SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (out with a fractured wrist). The curveball is Morton’s second-most thrown pitch and only three Padres had a plus-run value versus curveballs last season, according to Statcast.

Atlanta’s bullpen has looked far better than the Padres’ thus far. The Braves have the fourth-best bullpen FIP and the Padres have the fourth-worst, according to FanGraphs.

ATLANTA (-110) is my favorite wager in this game.

SPRINKLE on the BRAVES -1.5 (+160) since the payout is so chunky, Atlanta could add to its lead versus San Diego’s struggling bullpen.

Plus, we are seeing the RLM in the RL markets as well (per Pregame.com) since the Padres +1.5 (-200) are the more popular side, but the line is moving away from San Diego.

Again, my favorite bet is Atlanta’s ML but there’s some value in BRAVES -1.5 (+160).

Over/Under

PASS.

This 7.5-run total should be too low considering both lineups’ firepower. But the Over/Under is 4-11 in the last Braves-Padres 15 meetings, Petco is a pitcher-friendly park and we have two “top of the rotation” starters on the hill.

San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (4-1) meet the San Francisco Giants (2-2) Tuesday in the second of their 3-game set. First pitch at Oracle Park is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego won the series opener Monday 4-2 after scoring 1 run in the 7th and 9th innings to key the victory.

Padres at Giants: Projected starters

San Diego RHP Yu Darvish vs. San Francisco LHP Alex Cobb

Darvish had a no-decision versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on Opening Day despite throwing 6 innings of no-hit ball with 3 K and 4 BB. Arizona scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to steal the game, and Darvish’s victory, 4-2.

  • 2021 vs. Giants: 1-1 with a 5.82 ERA (21 2/3 IP, 14 ER), 1.20 WHIP and 12.9 K/9 in 4 starts.
  • vs. Giants on the current roster: 6.80 FIP with a .243 batting average (BA), .365 wOBA, .485 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 28.0 K% and 89.2 exit velocity (EV) in 82 plate appearances (PA).

Cobb is making his Giants debut and first start of the season Tuesday. He was 8-3 in 2021 with a 3.76 ERA (93 1/3 IP, 39 ER), 1.26 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 in 18 starts for the Los Angeles Angels.

  • 2021 vs. Padres: Never faced San Diego.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 8.32 FIP with a .260 BA, .368 wOBA, .728 xSLG, 11.1 K% and 95.9 mph EV in 54 PA.

Padres at Giants prediction and picks

Prediction

Giants 4, Padres 3

Money line

BET the GIANTS (-112) because they have better bullpen pitching and are more productive at the plate versus right-handed pitchers since the beginning of last season than the Padres (-108).

Furthermore, nearly three-fourths of the market is on San Diego (according to Pregame.com) primarily because of Darvish’s Opening Day performance and Cobb being at the bottom of San Francisco’s rotation.

However, Cobb had a sneaky impressive 2021 whereas Darvish struggled after the MLB enacted the sticky substance policy. Granted, Darvish was lights out versus the D-backs but Arizona is projected to finish in the cellar of the NL West.

On the other hand, Cobb’s FIP and xFIP were lower than his ERA last season, which suggests progression, and Cobb only allowed 0.48 home runs per 9 innings.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

Both pitching units have looked solid to start the season and I’m higher on San Diego than San Francisco entering this season so I don’t want to spend for the expensive Giants +1.5 (-190) RL.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 7.5 (-112) because Cobb is underrated and I’m willing to give Darvish a mulligan for his disastrous 2021.

Also, per Pregame.com, this is a Pros vs. Joe’s scenario in the betting market with more money coming on the Under but more bets have been placed on the Over.

Oddsmakers have reacted to the cash by lowering the total from the 8-run opener and typically it’s wise to follow the money when it’s opposite of the public since wiseguys put up more dough than your average Joe.

That said, it’s only a LEAN to the UNDER 7.5 (-112) because we are getting to the party a little late on the total and I feel stronger about San Francisco’s ML.

San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (3-1) head up to the Bay Area to play the NL West co-tenant San Francisco Giants (2-1) Monday at Oracle Park. First pitch is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Giants odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego clobbered the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday-Sunday outscoring them 20-11. Padres LF Jurickson Profar hit the cover off the ball with a .400 batting average (BA), 2 HR and 6 RBI versus the D-Backs.

San Francisco eked out a 2-1 series win over the Miami Marlins by winning the rubber match Sunday 3-2 as all three games were decided by 1 run.

The Giants won the 2021 season series with the Padres 11-8 and San Francisco outscored San Diego 92-76.

Padres at Giants: Projected starters

San Diego RHP Nick Martinez vs. San Francisco LHP Alex Wood

Martinez makes his Padres debut Monday and his first MLB start since 2017. He pitched for the Texas Rangers in the first four seasons of his career from 2014 to 2017. Martinez has spent his last four years pitching for the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan.

Wood was 10-4 in 2021 with a 3.83 ERA (138 2/3 IP, 59 ER), 1.18 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 over 26 starts.

  • Wood didn’t face San Diego last season despite playing in the same division.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 2.46 FIP with a .219 BA, .247 wOBA, .342 expected slugging percentage, 25.0 K% and 90.9 mph exit velocity in 36 plate appearances.

Money line

LEAN PADRES (+125) because who knows how Martinez will look after spending the last four years in Japan. However, I’m seeing some reverse line movement towards San Diego in the betting market.

A vast majority of the action is on the Giants (-155) but their ML price has decreased from the opener according to both Pregame.com and VegasInsider.com, It’s a red flag whenever sportsbooks make the more popular team cheaper.

However, I’m higher on San Diego than San Francisco coming into 2022 and I think we are getting a good price on the PADRES (+125).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS because the Padres +1.5 (-165) is too expensive considering the Giants -1.5 (+133) have the second-best RL record versus divisional foes since the beginning of last season at 51-30 RL.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 8.5 (-120) because San Diego’s lineup struggled versus left-handed pitching last season and San Francisco’s bullpen was phenomenal last season.

For instance, the Padres are 24th in hard-hit rate and 20th in wRC+ against lefty pitching since the beginning of 2021. Also, the Giants’ relievers are second in xFIP and sixth in WAR over that span.

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres visit National League West co-tenant Arizona Diamonbacks at Chase Field on Opening Day Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Padres vs. Diamondbacks odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The Padres beat the D-Backs in last season’s series 11-8 and outscored them 89-86. San Diego was 4-5 in Arizona.

San Diego had a disappointing 2021 with a 79-83 overall record and missing the postseason despite lofty preseason expectations. The Padres collapsed after the All-Star break, going 26-43 in the second half of the season.

Arizona finished in the basement of the NL West at 52-110, 22.5 games behind the fourth-place Colorado Rockies.

Padres at Diamondbacks: Projected starters

RHP Yu Darvish vs. LHP Madison Bumgarner

Darvish gets the Opening Day nod for the Padres. He was 8-11 last season with a 4.22 ERA (116 1/3 IP, 78 ER), 1.09 WHIP, 10.8 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.

  • 2021 vs. D-Backs: 0-2 with a 6.65 ERA (23 IP, 17 ER), 32 H, 32 K and 4 BB in 5 starts.
  • vs. D-Backs on the current roster: 3.95 FIP with a .321 batting average (BA), .384 wOBA, .423 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 29.8 K% and 87.9 mph exit velocity (EV) in 114 plate appearances (PA).

Bumgarner is Arizona’s Opening Day starter. He was 7-10 in 2021 with a 4.67 ERA (146 1/3 IP, 76 ER), 1.18 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.

  • 2021 vs. Padres: 0-1 with a 5.09 ERA (17 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 22 H, 17 K and 4 BB in 3 starts.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 6.09 FIP with a .233 BA, .339 wOBA, .545 xSLG, 22.5 K% and 90.9 mph EV in 191 PA.

Padres at Diamondbacks prediction and picks

Prediction

Padres 7, Diamondbacks 4

Money line

LEAN PADRES (-140) because there’s some reverse line movement (RLM) headed towards Arizona, Darvish is a bit of a wild-card entering 2022 and the Over is my favorite wager in this game.

According to Pregame.com, roughly three-fourths of the action is on the Padres but they’ve been lowered from a -150 ML favorite on the opener down to the current number. RLM is a red flag because why would the sportsbooks make the more popular side cheaper? Hmmm.

Also, after the MLB enacted a sticky substance policy on June 21, 2021, Darvish finished 1-9 with a 6.25 ERA (76 1/3 IP, 53) and allowed 2.2 home runs per 9 innings.

However, I’m expecting a bounce-back year from both Darvish and the Padres. Darvish most likely spent all offseason working on his pitching mechanics in a post-sticky substance MLB. Also, San Diego has far too much talent to repeat 2021’s atrocious performance.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS because I wouldn’t bet the D-backs +1.5 (-140) to cover and San Diego’s ML. For what it’s worth, the Padres were 21-28 RL as road favorites last season and 33-43 RL in division games. While the D-backs were also 33-43 RL versus NL West foes and 31-32 RL as home underdogs.

Over/Under

BET the OVER 9.5 (-130) since it appears to be the sharp side of the market hence the heavier juice.

Furthermore, there’s a Pros vs. Joe’s scenario in the total market for Padres-Diamondbacks with nearly two-thirds of the money on the Over but a slight majority of the market being on the Under at the time of publishing, per Pregame.com.

More importantly, we don’t know what form we’ll see out of Darvish and Bumgarner’s stuff has declined since his championship years with the San Francisco Giants.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (78-80) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (102-56) meet Thursday in the finale of a three-game series at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Padres vs. Dodgers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

L.A. won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 13-10.

Season series: Dodgers lead 11-7.

RHP Vince Velasquez is on the rubber for the Padres. Velasquez is 3-8 with a 6.22 ERA (89 2/3 IP, 62 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 4.8 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 over 20 starts and four relief appearances for San Diego and the Philadelphia Phillies this season.

  • Last outing: No-decision in San Diego’s 10-8 home loss to the Atlanta Braves Saturday with a stat line of 3 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 3 K.
  • vs. Dodgers on the current roster: 4.48 FIP with a .229 batting average (BA), .293 wOBA, .376 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 28.6 K% and 89.6 mph exit velocity (EV) in 77 plate appearances (PA).

RHP Tony Gonsolin is L.A.’s projected starter. Gonsolin is 4-1 with a 3.00 ERA (51 IP, 17 ER), 1.35 WHIP, 5.6 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 over 12 starts and two relief appearances.

  • Last outing: Win, 4-2 with 5 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 0 BB and 7 K Friday at the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 2.21 FIP with a .265 BA, .288 wOBA, .372 xSLG, 19.4 K% and 84.6 mph EV in 36 PA.

Prediction

Dodgers 7, Padres 3

Money line (ML)

PASS because the Dodgers (-250) are a little pricier than I’d like in this spot and there’s a “line freeze” as roughly 85% of the action is on L.A. However, the line hasn’t budged since the opener (according to Pregame.com).

Perhaps the sportsbooks feel as though their pricing for this game is dead on and are willing to take on more Dodgers bets. This is worrisome because the “House” ought to be making L.A. cheaper considering the one-way betting action.

Either way, I’ll PASS on laying more than two-to-one with the Dodgers.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

BET DODGERS -1.5 (-115) because the Padres have essentially folded on their season. This is a fair price for L.A.’s run line and San Diego has lost 10 of its last 11 games.

Velasquez is only getting starts for the Padres because of their mass injury issues to the pitching staff and the bullpen has been terrible this month. In September, San Diego’s bullpen has the sixth-worst ERA and home run per nine-inning rate and the eighth-worst hard-hit rate.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 9.5 (+105) for a small wager because this is both a “sharp” and “public” play. All the pro-Over money has steamed the total up from the 9-run opener to the current price.

The rationale is fairly obvious. Both teams are sending out starters that have below-average stuff, each lineup is stacked with power hitters and San Diego’s bullpen has been getting raked this month.

San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (78-78) meet the Los Angeles Dodgers (100-56) Tuesday for the start of their three-game series at Dodger Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Padres vs. Dodgers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

San Diego’s collapse out of playoff contention is complete after officially being eliminated and winning just 9 of its last 30 games. The Padres enter Tuesday on a three-game losing skid and have won just once in the last nine games.

L.A. has won seven of its last 10 games and trails the San Francisco Giants by 2 games for first place in the NL West and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

Season series:  Dodgers lead 9-7.

RHP Yu Darvish makes his 30th start for the Padres. Darvish is 8-10 with a 4.21 ERA (162 1/3 IP, 76 ER), 1.07 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 10.7 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 5 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 3 H, 3 BB and 7 K in San Diego’s 7-6 home win over the Giants Thursday.
  • Darvish is 2-2 against L.A. this season with a 2.42 ERA (26 IP, 7 ER), 0.73 WHIP and 5.0 K/BB in four starts.
  • vs. Dodgers on the current roster: 3.50 FIP with a .163 batting average (BA), .249 wOBA, .306 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 33.6 K% and 88.1 mph exit velocity (EV) in 149 plate appearances (PA).

RHP Walker Buehler is on the hill for the Dodgers. Buehler is 14-4 with a 2.58 ERA (195 2/3 IP, 56 ER), 0.98 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 9.0 K/9 over 31 starts.

  • Last outing: No-decision in L.A.’s 10-5 loss at the Colorado Rockies Wednesday with 3 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 2 K.
  • Buehler is 1-0 in four starts against San Diego this season with a 2.03 ERA (26 2/3 IP, 6 ER), 0.90 WHIP and 6.5 K/BB.
  • vs. Padres on the current roster: 3.73 FIP with a .194 BA, .253 wOBA, .446 xSLG, 27.1 K% and 89.8 mph EV in 170 PA.

  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -115 | U: -107)

Prediction

Dodgers 5, Padres 1

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to the DODGERS (-190) for a half unit since Buehler’s effectiveness has tailed off a bit in September.

For instance, this month is Buehler’s worst by winning percentage, WHIP, K/BB and ERA. In fact, Buehler’s ERA in September is 7.32.

That said, Darvish’s struggles have coincided with San Diego’s decline and MLB’s pitching substance policy that went into effect June 21. Since then, Darvish is 2-8 with a 5.97 ERA, a .798 opponent’s OPS and has allowed 19 home runs in 15 starts.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Slight “LEAN” to the DODGERS -1.5 (+115) for a tiny wager because L.A. still has the edge in starting pitching, and the difference between each ball clubs’ bullpen this month is staggering.

In September, San Diego’s bullpen ranks 23rd in xFIP, 21st in home run per nine-inning rate and 24th in ERA. While L.A.’s bullpen has the best ERA in the majors and the eighth-best home run per nine-inning rate.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 7.5 (-107) because of “sharp line movement” heading south of the total, which has caused oddsmakers to move the Padres-Dodgers total down from the 8-run opener.

However, since we are arriving to the party a little late, and I don’t have a strong enough handicap on the total in this contest – I’ll stay away.

Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The San Diego Padres (78-76) host the Atlanta Braves (81-72) Saturday for the second of their three-game series at Petco Park with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Braves vs. Padres odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Technically, these teams split a doubleheader Friday, but the first game was a makeup for a July 21st meeting that was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the 5th.

San Diego won the makeup game 6-5 then Atlanta took the second game 4-0 behind a complete-game shutout from starting LHP Max Fried.

Season series: Tied 2-2.

RHP Huascar Ynoa is Atlanta’s projected starter. Ynoa is 4-5 with a 3.43 ERA (81 1/3 IP, 31 ER), 1.06 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 across 15 starts and one relief appearance.

  • Last outing: No-decision in Atlanta’s 11-4 victory at the Arizona Diamondbacks with 4 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB and 2 K.
  • 2021 road splits: 1-3 with a 4.46 ERA (36 1/3 IP, 18 ER), 1.27 WHIP and 3.1 K/BB in seven starts and one bullpen outing.

RHP Vince Velasquez takes the hill for the Padres. Velasquez is 3-8 with a 6.23 ERA (86 2/3 IP, 60 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 4.8 BB/9 and 9.5 K/9 over 19 starts and four relief appearances for the Padres and Philadelphia Phillies.

  • Last outing: Loss, 8-6, with 1 IP, 2 ER (3 R), 1 BB and 2 K Wednesday vs. the San Francisco Giants.
  • Velasquez is 0-1 in two starts against Atlanta this season with an 8.22 ERA (7 2/3 IP, 7 ER), 7 H, 5 BB and 9 K.
  • vs. Braves on the current roster: 5.19 FIP with a .289 batting average, .396 wOBA, .386 expected slugging percentage, 28.3 K% and 90.9 mph exit velocity in 145 plate appearances.

Prediction

Braves 7, Padres 4

Money line (ML)

I’ll take the bait and BET the BRAVES (-120) for 1 unit despite the suspicious “reverse line movement”. According to Pregame.com, nearly 60% of the cash and 80% of the action is on the Braves, but oddsmakers have made Atlanta’s money line cheaper despite the one-way action.

Typically, I’d avoid falling into this trap, but I’m out on the Padres for the rest of this season. San Diego’s descent out of playoff contention isn’t getting nearly the coverage it deserves.

The Padres have won just 10 of their last 30 games and are 7 games back of the second NL Wild Card seed with eight games left. Also, the Braves are playing better in the three most important phases of baseball: Starting and relief pitching and hitting.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the BRAVES -1.5 (+130) for a tiny wager because Atlanta’s money line is a wiser wager. But, the Braves are 25-21 ATS as a road favorite and the Padres are 4-9 ATS as a home underdog.

More importantly, San Diego’s bullpen has regressed heavily this month and ranks in the bottom-10 in advanced pitching stats such as ERA, xFIP, home run per nine-inning rate and hard-hit rate.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS because I’m not a fan of either starting pitcher, but these teams have a combined 16-17 O/U record when these starters take the mound.

Also, the presumed sharp side of the market is betting the Under, and the public is betting the Over. I don’t want to fade the money and follow the crowd in this spot.
