Oklahoma Sooners receive predictions for 2023 OT Logan Howland with recruitment winding down

With his commitment winding down, 2023 offensive tackle Logan Howland looks to be trending toward the Oklahoma Sooners.

The last 10 days have been fruitful for the Oklahoma Sooners, who’ve landed commitments from four prospects: [autotag]Heath Ozaeta[/autotag], [autotag]Samuel Omosigho[/autotag], [autotag]Phil Picciotti[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaquaize Pettaway[/autotag].

Oklahoma’s work on the recruiting trail is paying off and will provide further returns as we get deeper into the month of July.

Still awaiting decisions from several highly regarded prospects, the Oklahoma Sooners appear trending in the right direction with another three-star offensive lineman. Oklahoma received predictions from Rivals and 247Sports to land [autotag]Logan Howland[/autotag] out of New Jersey.

Like Heath Ozaeta and [autotag]Keyon Brown[/autotag] before him, Howland received his Oklahoma offer in April. But it hasn’t taken long for the Sooners to make an impression on the 6-foot-7 offensive tackle prospect. Bill Bedenbaugh’s efforts on the recruiting trail have impressed Howland, who included Oklahoma in his top four with Iowa, Michigan and Miami in May.

While only a three-star player at the moment, Howlandhas drawn the attention of several big-time programs. In addition to his top four, he’s received offers from Michigan State, Tennessee and Kentucky.

In May, Howland told RutgersWire’s Kristian Dyer that Penn State and Michigan were the leaders for his commitment. Bedenbaugh’s recruitment has certainly swayed him as the offensive line prospect now looks to be headed to Norman.

Howland will make his decision on July 9, 2022.

Oklahoma lands 9th commitment of 2023 cycle in four-star LB Samuel Omosigho

The Oklahoma Sooners have landed another recruit for the class of 2023 in four-star LB Samuel Omosigho chose Oklahoma over Florida.

After an anxiety-filled last few weeks, Oklahoma fans can take a deep sigh of relief. The sky isn’t falling and some of the nation’s best athletes want to play football at the University of Oklahoma. That rings true for four-star linebacker Samuel Omosigho who chose the Sooners over the Florida Gators at a ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

Omosigho had been a hard OU lean for a while now but after taking officials to both with the Gators getting the last visit, it seemed all but locked up that he would be donning the Crimson & Cream come fall of 2023. Omosigho spent time with the Oklahoma insiders at 247Sports to discuss why OU won out in the end and had this to say:

“On my first visit on the fifth of March, they swept me off my feet with the spiritual aspect, the mental aspect, the athletic aspect,” he told 247Sports. “And with Oklahoma being Oklahoma — how good their program is, and a new head coach that has been successful at his [previous] program coming into this new program, making it his own — it’s different.

“Me and my family, we’re truly a faith-based family. And Coach Venables, what he talks about a lot and preaches a lot is being a faith-based football team. And me and my family put one and two together, and [OU] was the school that was fit for me. Every single time with Coach Venables is like a motivational speech. He continues to pour out his wisdom and his great advice to us; when my mom heard his speech and heard him talk, she was so impressed. And she felt like this was home.”

Omosigho brings athleticism and tremendous upside for a player whose best days still seem very much ahead. Head coach Brent Venables, defensive coordinator, linebackers coach Ted Roof, and even safeties coach Brandon Hall all chipped in during the recruitment.

He’ll be a linebacker certainly but it sounds like he’ll be cross-trained to be able to play all three linebacker positions which should speak volumes to the caliber of athlete he is. If that doesn’t, consider he had multiple Power 5 offers to play WR as well.

With Omosigho’s commitment the Sooners inch a little bit higher in the team recruiting rankings. Omosigho’s commitment is on the last day in June but it ultimately could be the start of a massive July for the program. Omosigho could be the opener for possibly four or five other commits as the calendar flips over to July.

2023 LB prospect Samuel Omosigho announces commitment date

Four-star linebacker Samuel Omosigho announces a top two of Florida and Oklahoma while setting his decision date for June 30th.

July could be Oklahoma’s most fruitful month for their efforts in the 2023 recruiting class. Multiple OU targets have announced their decision dates and trimmed their lists.

A particular linebacker prospect out of the state of Texas is firmly within Oklahoma’s reach and all that stands between OU and a commitment from four-star linebacker Samuel Omosigho is the Florida Gators. Omosigho plans to make his decision known to the world on Thursday.

Omosigho is a rangy athlete that plays both ways for his high school team. While his stars may not reflect it, he’s is an elite athlete who could be a late bloomer turned star if he spends multiple years in a college strength and conditioning program.

At 6-foot-1 and just under 210 pounds, Omosigho has the horizontal quickness to match up in coverage, has the strength and power to rush the QB, and can shed blocks and make plays in the running game.

With his commitment set for Thursday, Omosigho could become the second defensive player in as many months to join the Sooners 2023 class. Their last defensive commitment came from safety Kaleb Spencer out of Virginia in May.

Brandon Hall and linebackers’ coach Ted Roof have fought tooth and nail for Omosigho, who has had multiple unofficial visits with Oklahoma before he even stepped foot on campus for his official.

This 4-star linebacker split on his final two schools after visit to Florida

That Gators are one of the two last schools standing for this blue-chip linebacker.

June is winding down after a busy month on the recruiting front for Florida football, which welcomed prep recruits from around the state and nation onto campus over the past few weeks. Four-star linebacker [autotag]Samuel Omosigho[/autotag] out of Crandall (Texas) was among those to make the trek to Gainesville for an official visit, arriving on Monday and departing on Wednesday to conclude his first stop to see what the Orange and Blue has to offer.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 2008-pound linebacker came away impressed with what [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and Co. have cooking in the Swamp, telling Swamp247 that his visit was “awesome.” He also expounded a bit on what he experienced during his stay.

“I spent a lot of time around the staff and the players. I went to a practice as well, one of their OTA’s to see how they work. Talked to a lot of players and toured their campus. I viewed a lot of the stuff they have at Florida and had a really good time.”

Inside linebackers coach [autotag]Jay Bateman[/autotag] has been at the forefront of the recruiting effort to get Omosigho into the fold, also spending the most time with him during his stop.

“I really have a lot of respect for him and I think he’s a really good coach,” the young prospect offered. The big message I took away from him is how Florida has a lot to offer and they are a really good program. They play big time SEC ball and are making a new culture with the new staff. They said they are building things from the ground up and that they want me to come be a part of their plan.”

Florida’s only competitor for the Lone Star State linebacker is Oklahoma, which holds a massive advantage geographically over the Gators. Both schools have hosted him on official visits and he is not expected to make any more making his decision, citing that the two schools are neck and neck. However, the Sooners currently hold a wide lead in his recruitment with two crystal ball projections from 247Sports and a 96.1% chance of landing him according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, while the Gators are given a 2.6% chance by the latter service.

Despite the lopsided odds, Omosigho also shared some extremely encouraging words with Swamp247.

“I am not going to lie to you, going into my recruitment I had Florida in my top 10 but I didn’t really expect to like them this much, but I wanted to give them a chance. Going down there, they kind of swept me off my feet because I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. They had a really good visit with me and they did a really good job on the visit.”

Omosigho is currently ranked No. 412 overall and No. 35 nationally at his position according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 503 and 25, respectively — both of which assign him a three-star rating. 247Sports’ standard assessment ranks him as a four-star linebacker, sitting at No. 20 nationally at his position and No. 43 overall in the state of Texas.

Gators host pair of recruits on mid-week official visits

The mid-week official visits went well for Florida a week ago, so why not run it back this week?

After hosting two elite talents last week on mid-week official visits, the Florida Gators have another duo in town. Four-star offensive lineman [autotag]Lucas Simmons[/autotag] and three-star linebacker [autotag]Samuel Omosigho[/autotag] arrived in Gainesville on Monday, according to 247Sports.

Simmons has warmed up to the Gators in recent months, but USC is considered the leader in his recruitment. Tennessee and Oklahoma State have also hosted him on official visits, and Florida State will get him over the weekend.

Despite playing high school ball in the state of Florida, Simmons is an international player from Sweden who moved to the States in 2021. That means the home state pitch won’t be as effective on him, but he does have two Florida schools in the mix a month or two out from his expected decision date.

Omosigho is a Texas-based recruit that’s actually rated four stars by 247Sports but composite rankings agree that he’s closer to the three-star range. Florida started talking with him in the spring and extended an offer in April. Personnel analyst Joe Hamilton played a key role in getting the ball moving with Omosigho and running backs coach [autotag]Jabbar Juluke[/autotag] stopped by his school in spring. Now he’ll get to see Florida’s campus in person and meet the staff in its entirety.

Ranked No. 412 overall in the class of 2023 on the 247Sports composite, Omosigho isn’t short on Power Five offers. Auburn, Michigan and Oklahoma are just three of his offers, and the Sooners are making a strong push for him.

Last week’s visits went well, and five-stars can be a bit harder to please than other recruits. We’ll have to wait and see what kind of boost Florida gets in these two races after they leave town.

2023 linebacker Samuel Omosigho reveals top schools

Auburn is one of ten schools remaining to land 2023 three-star linebacker Samuel Omosigho.

On Sunday, 2023 linebacker/safety Samuel Omosigho released his top ten schools via Twitter. One of the schools listed was the Auburn Tigers. Other programs that were included are TCU, USC, Oklahoma, SMU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Michigan, Florida, and Ole Miss.

Omosigho is regarded as a three-star by 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-1 and 208 pounds. The product of Crandall, Texas is listed as an athlete but considers himself as an outside linebacker/strong safety in his Twitter bio. With those measurables, he is eerily similar to the current Auburn Tigers safety Zion Puckett. Puckett was 6 foot tall and 200 pounds coming out of high school. I could see Omosigho playing a similar role to Puckett or maybe even the role that Smoke Monday had as kind of a hybrid safety/linebacker.

At this present time, there has been one crystal ball prediction made in favor of Oklahoma. He has a visit to Norman scheduled for June 3rd. Along with that trip, he will also be making one to Gainesville on June 24th. As for the Tigers, they offered back in March of 2022. The coaching staff would love to have Omosigho on campus. His versatility and athleticism have become something that Tigers’ coaches have loved to see over the past few years in past recruits.

Oklahoma Sooners summer recruiting primer for the 2023 recruiting cycle

With the summer on the horizon, we took a look at the names to know as the Sooners look to make a push on the recruiting front for 2023.

Brent Venables and Co. are weeks removed from their first spring as a staff together. It was a successful one with no notable injuries and some standout performances across the board. All told, things went as well as they could’ve hoped considering the positive reviews from the media and recruits in attendance.

The spring game served as an eye-opener for recruits and gave the Oklahoma Sooners some significant momentum to ride as they head into the most crucial time of the year for recruiting. Oklahoma Sooners receive On3 prediction for 2023 ATH Samuel Omosigho

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to trend in the right direction with 2023 ATH Samuel Omosigho, receiving a prediction from On3’s Gerry Hamilton.

The Oklahoma Sooners are trending toward a commitment from 2023 three-star athlete [autotag]Samuel Omosigho[/autotag]. After receiving projections to land the talented two-way player after his junior day visit in March, the Sooners landed another prediction in favor of Omosigho heading to Norman.

Omosigho visited the University of Oklahoma again on April 18, according to 247Sports, and that visit must have gone well because the Sooners received another prediction for the rising three-star talent. This time it was On3’s senior national recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton issuing a prediction for Omosigho to the Sooners.

On March 28, OUInsider at 247Sports’ Parker Thune issued a crystal ball projection in favor of the Sooners. According to On3’s recruiting prediction machine, the Sooners have a 98.7% chance of landing Omosigho.

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t been afraid to target players they feel are on the rise, like [autotag]Erik McCarty[/autotag]. McCarty wasn’t rated when he committed to the Sooners. While Omosigho has the three-star designation, the offers he has picked up in the last six months indicate he is a player to watch. Since Jan. 1, he has picked up nine Power Five offers, including from SEC schools Florida, Auburn and Missouri since Feb. 20.

Oklahoma Sooners receive 5 new Crystal Ball predictions from OUInsider Parker Thune

The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off a massive recruiting weekend and that work is already paying dividends.

While the most recent recruiting weekend looks like it was a resounding success, prospects from previous recruiting weekends with the Oklahoma Sooners have taken time to digest their time in Norman. For some, the time spent analyzing where the Sooners fall in their recruitment has led some of college football’s biggest recruiting insiders to believe there’s significant momentum for Oklahoma in regards to some of these prospects.

The momentum is so real that recruiting analyst Parker Thune of OUInsider at 247Sports was confident enough to issue Crystal Ball predictions for several Oklahoma Sooners’ targets. We’ve taken the liberty of chronicling those below for your viewing pleasure:

On3 national recruiting analyst predicts 4-star ATH Anthony White to Oklahoma

On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman submitted a prediction for 2023 four-star athlete Anthony White to the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to make headway in the 2023 recruiting cycle, targeting athletes that have been playmakers on both sides of the football. In the last 24 hours, the Sooners have received a 247Sports crystal ball for four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson and a prediction from On3 for three-star athlete Samuel Omosigho.

On3 Sports national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman also issued a prediction for four-star athlete Anthony White (On3+) to end up in Norman with the Sooners.

White, from Abernathy, Texas, is a two-way playmaker at cornerback and wide receiver. He displays excellent ball skills, winning 50-50 balls from either position. He’s an athletic player that’s able to make things happen with the ball in his hands.

As a corner in run defense, White does a nice job of engaging his blocker to string the run play wide before beating the block and making the play. He shows good route recognition and does a great job breaking on the ball. He plays the football and has the ability to come up with the pick.

At wide receiver, the four-star recruit is able to climb the ladder to high-point the football. His speed allows him to get behind the defense to make plays down the field. In open space, he’s dynamic with the football, using subtle movements to make would-be tacklers miss.

With less than a year to go until 2023’s national signing day, the Oklahoma Sooners are attacking the recruiting trail looking for dynamic playmakers on the outside. The Sooners haven’t officially offered White yet, but with a prediction coming in favor of Oklahoma from Spiegelman, it stands to reason an official offer is on the way.
