Rutgers football commit Sam Pilof gets a visit from Greg Schiano and Joe Harasymiak last Friday

Rutgers football commit Sam Pilof played before head coach Greg Schiano on Friday night.

Three-star commit Sam Pilof got a special visit from Rutgers football over the weekend, the three-star linebacker from Wisconsin having his future head coach and future defensive coordinator at his most recent game.

Pilof, who committed to Rutgers football in March, is a linebacker at Middleton (Middleton, Wisconsin).

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano and defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak attended Pilof’s game on Friday against Madison West (Madison, Wisconsin). Middleton rolled to a 50-3 win and improved to 7-1 on the season.

With Rutgers playing at Wisconsin on Saturday, it gave the program an opportunity to check-in on Pilof, who also held offers from Penn State and Wisconsin. Schiano and Harasymiak were there for Pilof’s warm-ups and got a chance to see the commit’s family.

“Coach Schiano had to leave after the first quarter because of a team meeting and coach Harasymiak left after the first half because it was a blow out win,” Pilof told Rutgers Wire.

“I got to meet coach Harasymiak in the endzone twice on Friday night first – my pick-six I pointed at him and second I brought a kick return to the house and gave him a little hug in the end zone.

“It was great.”

On the season, Pilof has 80 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, an interception, four passes defended. He hasn’t played in the second half of Middleton’s last three games due to the size of their lead in each of those games.

Much like Schiano who left early and Harasymiak, who left at halftime, Pilof didn’t make the full game for Middleton. He did however make Saturday’s game against Wisconsin, a 24-13 loss for Rutgers.

“I was taken out midway through the second quarter because we were way up on the score board,” Pilof said. “But it was great to see them and always fun to watch Rutgers play and watch the defense fly around ‘coach H’ sent me a nice text after my game too.”

Rutgers football linebacker commit Sam Pilof is cooking up a strong senior season

Sam Pilof, a Rutgers football commit, is off to a strong start his senior season.

Sam Pilof is having a tremendous senior season. The Rutgers football linebacker has certainly been productive, to say the least.

Through five games, Pilof has 55 tackles, five tackles for a loss and three sacks for Middleton High School (Middleton, Wisconsin). The three-star linebacker committed to Rutgers in February with an offer list that included Penn State and Wisconsin.

Pilof is a throwback linebacker who is physical and aggressive. He reads the game well and instinctually. He is also a versatile athlete who is making a contribution on offense as well as on special teams.

Middleton is currently 4-1 and having a very solid year. They beat Vel Phillips Memorial (Madison, Wisconsin) 31-20 over the weekend.

Pilof is pleased with the season.

“It’s going great. We’ve been playing very well,” Pilof told Rutgers Wire.

“We are a little injured in the secondary but the two’s are stepping up big time. I had a nagging hip injury throughout the first four weeks but now it is 100 percent. I’m doing returns and playing some running back and wideout.”

He is the sixth-best recruit in Wisconsin according to 247Sports.

Pilof was at Rutgers over the weekend for the win over Virginia Tech. The unofficial visit, he says, went very well.

“I’ve only been to one (game) which was the last game. I feel great about their season,” Pilof said. Dominating wins. Love watching the defense fly around.”

He plans on enrolling early in January.

Several other recruits were on-hand for the win on Saturday including Isaiah Crumpler, DK Gilley and A.J. Surace among others. Rutgers has a very solid class, one which Pilof feels is a good group.

“Feels great – all the dudes are awesome,” Pilof said.

Rutgers football: New Jersey linebacker Willy Love set to announce on July 6

Rutgers football is in the final four for linebacker Willy Love.

On Monday afternoon, New Jersey linebacker Willy Love announced that he will be making his college commitment on July 6. Love took an official visit to Rutgers in June.

ESPN and Rivals rank Love as a four-star recruit; he is also a consensus top-10 player in New Jersey. He is a class of 2024 prospect at Woodrow Wilson High School (Camden, N.J.). In mid-June, he released a top seven that included Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Rutgers, Syracuse and Texas A&M.

Now, Love is down to four programs, with one of New Jersey’s top recruits telling Rutgers Wire that Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse will all be part of his final four programs.

Now, would Rutgers take a commitment from Love at this point? That is where things could get a bit tricky between the Big Ten program and one of the state’s top players.

The Scarlet Knights, who currently have a class of 20 commits, have three verbals from linebacker prospects.

All three commits have a strong Power Five offer list:
