Rutgers football recruiting: Wisconsin linebacker Jack Wilson set to camp this summer

Jack Wilson talks about his plans to camp at Rutgers football this summer.

Jack Wilson was invited to a Rutgers football camp this June, the Wisconsin athlete just recently getting on the radar of the Big Ten program.

Wilson is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete who plays for Mt. Horeb (Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin). A class of 2026 prospect, he lines up as a linebacker and at running back.

In the 2024 recruiting class, Rutgers landed Wisconsin offensive tackle [autotag]Carter Kadow[/autotag]. Ranked the No. 13 player in the state, Kadow also held a Power Five offer from Indiana as well as several Ivy League programs.

Rutgers has recently reached out, asking Wilson to fill out a questionnaire. This week, he got an invite to camp this summer.

“I am planning on being at camp on June 16,” Wilson told Rutgers Wire.

“I will also be attending the Wisconsin Badgers camp on June 19.”

The contact from Rutgers is still new but Wilson is learning about the program. He has a positive impression of the program’s direction under head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag].

“I love their aggression on the defensive side of the ball and I definitely think they are on the rise in the Big Ten,” Wilson said.

“They are also a great developmental program and coach Schiano is doing a great job.”

As for his upcoming visits, Wilson is mapping them out. At least one other Big Ten program will likely join Rutgers and Wisconsin as camp visits this summer for Wilson.

“I haven’t finalized my camp schedule for the summer yet but those two are for sure,” Wilson said about Rutgers and Wisconsin camps.

“Also looking at possibly getting up to Minnesota. I’m also planning on going to Central Michigan in a few weeks to get to a spring practice.”

Rutgers football will host two commits this weekend for official visits

A pair of committed players are on official visits this weekend at Rutgers.

There will be two official visitors on campus this weekend for Rutgers football, both of whom are committed to the program.

Rutgers will host an offensive line duo of [autotag]Kenny Jones[/autotag] and [autotag]Carter Kadow[/autotag] over the weekend for official visits. Neither player was able to take an official visit in the summer or the fall.

Jones was the first player to commit to Rutgers in the 2024 recruiting class. He has very quietly been a leader of this class. He is a three-star recruit from Delran High School (Delran, N.J.) and ranked by Rivals as the No. 23 player in the state.

From Wisconsin, Kadow gave his verbal to Rutgers in June following a strong performance at camp.

Like Jones, Kadow is a three-star offensive lineman.

He held a Power Five offer from Indiana as well as offers from Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Yale. He was also recruited by Iowa StateMinnesota and Penn State among others.

This weekend represents the only official visit for both players. Both Jones and Kadow are projected to enroll at Rutgers in January.

What recruits are visiting Rutgers football on Saturday?

There will also be several players at the game from Donovan Catholic High School and LaSalle Academy in Rhode Island.

Film Breakdown: What type of player is 2024 recruit Carter Kadow?

Rutgers continues recruiting for their 2024 class as they land three-star recruit Carter Kadow. Did RU add a Power Five lineman in Kadow?

Rutgers football continues recruiting for their 2024 class as they land offensive lineman Carter Kadow on Sunday. With his verbal commitment, the Scarlet Knights have totaled 19 recruits for their 2024 class and are ranked No. 23 in the nation, according to 247Sports.

A three-star offensive lineman from Middleton, Wisconsin, Kadow received another Power Five offer from Indiana and received interest from Iowa State, Minnesota, and Penn State. According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-7 and 266-pound lineman is ranked No. 12 in Wisconsin and No. 88 offensive tackle in the nation among his recruiting class.

Kadow performed well at the Rutgers Big Man Academy on Saturday, recording an 84-inch wingspan, running a 5.01 time in the 40, and jumping a 9-foot-3-inch broad jump.

Film Breakdown

Kadow is a natural tight end in high school. He has a great size frame and performed a ton of run blocking at tight end. Kadow can perform basic blocks like double teams, reaching / zone blocking, and combo blocks.

If Kadow is going to develop into a Power Five lineman, he needs to show more aggression and physicality up front. The three-star recruit has excellent hand placement and technique coming off the ball but doesn’t drive opposing defensive linemen off the line of scrimmage.

Kadow has experience putting his hand on the ground, so moving to tackle shouldn’t be an issue for the Wisconsin native. It is unclear if Kadow can pass block, an aspect a Big Ten lineman would need to know how to do. If the new Scarlet Knight is changing his position, he needs to learn the technique for pass blocking to succeed at the Power Five level.

If Kadow can’t cut it at tackle, he can always return to his old position at tight end. The 2024 recruit is athletic and has excellent hands, grabbing multiple touchdowns last season for the Cardinals. If tight end is an option, his speed needs improvement, only running a 5.01 40-yard dash.

Kadow is now the second Rutgers recruit from Wisconsin following Sam Pilof’s verbal commitment on April 15.

With three commitments this weekend, Rutgers football makes a move in the national recruiting rankings

Rutgers football has some momentum on the recruiting front.

Rutgers football landed three commitments over this past weekend, adding to a class that is strong and already has 19 commitments.

And the impact is being seen with the program’s national recruiting ranking following Rutgers football’s trio of commitments over the weekend. The three commits who came in for Rutgers this past weekend and became a part of the 2024 recruiting class:

  • Georgia defensive back Antonio White (a three-star recruit)
  • West Virginia defensive back Sage Clawges (a three-star recruit)
  • Wisconsin offensive lineman Carter Kadow (a three-star recruit)

The impact of this, beyond the obvious of adding talent to the program, is also the national perception of the rebuild being undertaken by Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano and his staff. This class is strong, solid and deep, something that Rutgers has not consistently had since entering the Big Ten in 2014.

There is no doubt that adding talented players attracts other talented players. And this is certainly being born out with Rutgers now grabbing plenty of talent that holds other Power Five offers.

In turn, the three major recruiting services all see to rate this class highly for Rutgers. The two oldest services, Rivals and 247Sports, are the ones that have Rutgers ranked the highest in their national tracking.

In the overall recruiting rankings tabulated by 247Sports, Rutgers currently sits at No. 23 nationally out of 107 programs. The Scarlet Knights have consistently been top 25 by 247Sports over the past three weeks.

Rutgers football moved up four spots over the weekend according to Rivals, who now has the Scarlet Knights as No. 17 in the nation with their current class.

In the Rivals rankings, Rutgers is the only recruiting class without a four-star recruit.

The one outlier has and continues to be On3, who has Rutgers at No. 37 with their current class.

Get Carter: Rutgers football’s newest commit, Carter Kadow, explains why he picked the Big Ten program

Carter Kadow discusses his recent commitment to Rutgers football.

A day after being offered by Rutgers football, Carter Kadow committed to the Scarlet Knights. The offensive lineman from Wisconsin was offered after a standout showing during Saturday’s Big Man Camp at Rutgers.

A member of the 2024 recruiting class, Kadow is a three-star offensive lineman from Middleton, WI. Kadow held a Power Five offer from Indiana as well as offers from Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Yale. He was also recruited by Iowa StateMinnesota and Penn State among others.

Things moved quickly for Kadown and Rutgers following his offer on Saturday afternoon. It was a feeling that the three-star offensive lineman said he felt almost as soon as he stepped foot on campus.

“I just got that feeling that I was meant to be there when I got to (Rutgers),” Kadow told Rutgers Wire.

At 6-foot-7 and 266 pounds, Kadow is impressive physically and moves very well for his size. He recently ran a 5.01 time in the 40. He has an 84-inch wingspan as well.

[lawrence-related id=27951,27942]

Many of the top players in the NFL draft this spring don’t have that arm length. For instance, Darnell Wright, a first round pick at offensive tackle and the second player taken at the position measured in with an arm length of 82 inches.

Peter Skoronski, the third offensive lineman off the board and also a first round pick, is at 79.5 inches for his wingspan.

Kadow will likely need a redshirt season to add more size but he has a good frame and impressed in the camp setting.

He said that the positive impression went both ways on Saturday.

“The staff was really outgoing and it felt like they wanted to get to know you as a person and not just as a football player,” Kadow said.

“It also felt like they cared about me and wanted to coach me, especially at camp. They were really good teachers.”

Kadow recently took an official visit to Indiana. He said that his recruitment is over and that he is “completely locked in and focused on the season.”

His visit over the weekend allowed him to connect with offensive line coach Pat Flaherty and assistant offensive line coach Scott Vallone. The time spent with these two coaches played a major role in Kadow’s commitment to Rutgers.

“It’s great. I love the culture and the facilities are out of this world,” Kadow told Rutgers Wire on Saturday night.

“I love the players-first mentality that all the coaches have. After the camp, I felt I learned a lot and the coaching staff for the offensive really got us better and did a great job teaching us the techniques.”

Carter Kadow picked up a Rutgers football offer on Saturday, is expecting to decide soon

Carter Kadow picked up a Rutgers football offer on Monday.

A three-star offensive lineman from Middleton, WI, Kadow’s other Power Five offer is from Indiana. He also holds offers from Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Yale while fielding interest from Iowa State, Minnesota and Penn State.

A college commitment, he said, should be coming “within the next few days.”

It was then that the 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle.

“It’s great. I love the culture and the facilities are out of this world,” Kadow told Rutgers Wire on Saturday night.

“I love the players-first mentality that all the coaches have. After the camp, I felt I learned a lot and the coaching staff for the offensive really got us better and di a great job teaching us the techniques.”

According to 247Sports, Kadow is the twelfth best player in Wisconsin in the 2024 recruiting class. Rutgers holds a commitment in this current recruiting class from Sam Pilof, a three-star linebacker with offers from Penn State and Wisconsin.

Part of Saturday’s camp for Kadow was getting to know Pat Flaherty. The Rutgers offensive line coach, who comes to the program with two decades of  experience in the NFL.

He won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants as their offensive line coach.

“Coach Flats was great, an excellent teacher and coach Vallone (Scott Vallone, offensive line assistant coach) was the same way,” Kadow said.

“You could tell he has been around football for awhile from his understanding of the game and his ability to teach us.”

An official visit could be in the mix for Rutgers at some point.

“I don’t have any more visits scheduled because of the dead period but I plan on making a decision soon on which school I will be committing to,” Kadow said.
