Browns add preseason star Sam Kamara to practice squad

The Browns add Sam Kamara to their practice squad after signing three to their active roster last week.

After a great deal of movement up and down the practice squad due to injuries, the Cleveland Browns are finally filling an open slot. They have been forced to sign defenders Jordan Kunaszyk and Isaac Rochell to the active roster, and now add preseason standout Sam Kamara to the practice squad.

The former undrafted free agent out of Stony Brook was responsible for 14 total pressures in three preseason games with the Chicago Bears this past preseason. Hopefully Kamara never has to find his way to the active roster, but having depth along the interior cannot hurt a team that is beaten up inside.

Cleveland Browns bring in Khalil Davis and 4 others for tryouts

The Cleveland Browns continue to look to churn the bottom of their roster, bringing in five for a tryout.

According to the NFL’s Personnel Notice sent out today, Friday 9/16, the Cleveland Browns brought in five players for tryouts. Defensive tackle Khalil Davis is among the most popular of the names, as he was a sixth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The four other names brought in were former Florida and undrafted free agent Jean Delance, former Morgan State offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley, defensive end Nick Thurman out of Houston, and former Stony Brook linebacker Sam Kamara.

The defensive linemen named could have a direct correlation to the discipline Perrion Winfrey is facing from the team as Roderick Perry has been activated from the Practice Squad for this game against the Jets to sit in for the fourth rounder.

As of now, none of these players have received contract offers to either the active roster nor the practice squad. Keep an eye on these names in the coming days.

8 Bears bubble players who have earned a roster spot

Not everyone can stick on the Bears final roster, but here are eight players we believe made a great case following the preseason.

The regular season is just days away for the Chicago Bears now that both training camp and the preseason have concluded. But before they take the field against the San Francisco 49ers in week one, general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus must trim the roster down from 80 players to 53. This means plenty of tough decisions will be made regarding bubble players who have given everything they have since training camp began in late July.

Cutting 27 players isn’t easy for an NFL general manager and while some are easy to spot, it also becomes clear as to who has earned a place on the team. Here are eight players we believe have made a great case to stick on the Bears final roster.

10 Bears on the roster bubble who need strong performances vs. Browns

There are a number of Bears players on the roster bubble who need to impress in the preseason finale against the Browns.

The Chicago Bears will wrap the preseason against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, and there are a number of players vying for roster spots and starting jobs.

While the starters will play the first half, there are a number of players on the roster bubble who will get their opportunities to show why they’re deserving of a roster spot — whether it’s with Chicago or another team.

Ahead of Chicago’s preseason finale, we’re taking a look at some roster bubble players to keep an eye on against Cleveland:

10 Players to watch in Bears’ final preseason game vs. Browns

Here are 10 players we’re keeping an eye on when the Bears take the field this preseason one last time before the regular season begins.

The preseason is about to come to a close for the Chicago Bears, but before they finalize their rosters for the regular season, they have a date with the Cleveland Browns. The Bears take on the Browns this Saturday evening in their preseason finale, beginning at 6:00 p.m. CT. With one last preseason game, the starters get a chance for a tune up, the bubble players have one last opportunity to earn a roster spot, and the team can go for an undefeated record before the real games begin.

With the starters likely playing well into the second quarter, according to head coach Matt Eberflus, it seems every healthy player will take the field at some point on Saturday night. That gives fans plenty to watch for throughout the game. Here are 10 players we’re keeping an eye on when the Bears take the field one last time before the regular season begins.

Bears place Roquan Smith on physically unable to perform list to open training camp

Here’s a quick breakdown of each move the Bears made to open training camp, including placing LB Roquan Smith on the PUP list.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp, and there are no shortage of storylines to watch. One of those includes linebacker Roquan Smith’s contract situation, which was expected to hold him out of practice.

The Bears announced that Smith was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which is for players who have football-related injuries and are unable to practice.

When general manager Ryan Poles met with the media on Tuesday, he explained that there were some moves coming ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Here’s a quick breakdown of each move the Bears made ahead of the first practice of training camp.

Bears 2022 training camp preview: Edge rushers

We’re previewing the Bears pass rushers currently on the roster ahead of training camp

Chicago Bears training camp is less than a month away, so it’s time to start looking ahead at the roster the team is bringing to Lake Forest.

When camp officially begins later this month, the EDGE position is one that will look much different than last year. Khalil Mack was dealt earlier in the offseason and their other star veteran Robert Quinn will likely be absent as he’s reportedly looking to be traded as well.

That leaves young players Trevis Gipson and Al-Quadin Muhammad as the likely starters, with others such as rookie Dominique Robinson potentially making it into the rotation. Let’s take a look at the pass rushers and what we can expect going into camp.

Eddie Goldman among 3 Bears players placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Bears have placed Eddie Goldman, Artie Burns and Sam Kamara on the reserve/COVID-19 list just one day after Mario Edwards.

The NFL is in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak in December, where it’s hit some teams pretty bad, including the Chicago Bears.

One day after placing defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. on the list, the Bears have added three more players to the COVID list: nose tackle Eddie Goldman, cornerback Artie Burns and outside linebacker Sam Kamara (who’s on the practice squad).

That brings Chicago’s COVID-19 list to five players as Goldman, Burns and Kamara join Edwards and offensive tackle Elijah Wilkinson on the list.

The past two days have been especially brutal for the NFL. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there was a record 37 positive COVID tests Monday with the expectation that Tuesday would see north of at least 25. That makes it at least 62 player positive tests in the past two days.

That doesn’t mean that Goldman, Burns and Kamara tested positive, necessarily, as they could be close contacts. But it also doesn’t mean they didn’t test positive.

If they’re vaccinated, they can return to the team after two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. If they’re not vaccinated, they have to quarantine for 10 days before those two negative tests.

Breaking down Bears’ roster moves ahead of matchup vs. Packers

The Bears made several roster moves Wednesday, including placing Germain Ifedi and Jeremiah Attaochu on injured reserve.

The Chicago Bears (3-2) are gearing up for a divisional showdown against the Green Bay Packers (4-1), where the winner will lead the NFC North.

Ahead of Sunday’s game at Soldier Field, the Bears have been dealing with some injuries, which the team addressed Wednesday. While quarterback Justin Fields’ hyperextended knee is fine, and he’ll be good to go Sunday, the same can’t be said for a couple of others.

Here’s a look at the seven roster moves the Bears made on Wednesday, including players placed on injured reserve and players signed to the active roster or practice squad.

What Jeremiah Attaochu’s season-ending injury means for Bears defense

With Bears OLB Jeremiah Attaochu out for the year with a torn pec, expect to see a lot more of second-year pro Trevis Gipson.

The Chicago Bears have lost a valuable reserve at edge rusher after Jeremiah Attaochu suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday’s win and is out for the season.

Attaochu was the primarily reserve at outside linebacker behind Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn, who have combined for 9.5 sacks through the first five weeks of the season. While Attaochu didn’t have any sacks, he was playing well before his injury.

With Attaochu out for the year, what does that mean for the Bears defense?

While you don’t want to lose players to injury, the bright spot appears to be that second-year pro Trevis Gipson will get plenty more reps in relief of Mack and Quinn. Gipson has recorded a sack in back-to-back games, and he’s on track to take a big step in his development after being drafted as a projected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL draft.

“Whatever opportunities are given to me, I’m going to try to make the most of them,” Gipson said Sunday when asked about Attaochu exiting the game.

With Attaochu landing on injured reserve, the Bears have promoted undrafted rookie Sam Kamara to the 53-man roster, where he’ll serve Gipson’s former role. Kamara, a converted defensive tackle, was one of the standouts during the preseason for the Bears, but they just had too much depth and not enough roster spots at the position.

The Bears pass rush currently ranks first in the NFL with 18 sacks with 11.5 of those coming from outside linebackers Mack, Quinn and Gipson. While the loss of  Attaochu isn’t ideal, they’re equipped to handle it until Attaochu returns next season.
