Buckeye Battle Cry series: Best Ohio State football player to wear jersey No. 6

We are up to jersey No. 6 in our effort to debate and identify the best Ohio State football player to ever don each jersey number.

We’ve been going through a series of debating which Ohio State football player is the best to wear specific jersey numbers, and we’re up to jersey No. 6.

Here’s where we stand with all the jersey numbers we’ve debated to date:

Jersey No. 1 | Jersey No. 2 | Jersey No. 3 | Jersey No. 4Jersey No. 5

We’re doing this because we know you’re bored looking at every square inch of your home. We’re all getting a little stir crazy from being cooped up due to the measures put in place to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, and there are only so many classic games I can dial-up and watch.

In the long, illustrious history of Ohio State football, there is sure to be some disagreement, but that only makes it more fun. We might just sling some mud at each other, but it’s all being done virtually like everything else.

We will continue to go as high as makes sense, or until we win an all-expenses-paid trip to the grocery store to get toilet paper.

Mark, is going to kick us off again …

Sam Hubbard, the Joe Burrow connection, headlines Bengals draft party plans

The Bengals 2020 NFL draft party features Sam Hubbard, friend of Joe Burrow.

The Cincinnati Bengals draft party for the 2020 NFL draft was always going to feature legends like Anthony Munoz and Boomer Esiason.

But it’ll also loop in Sam Hubbard — friend of one Joe Burrow.

Thursday, the Bengals announced plans for their draft party and made sure to mention Hubbard.

Fitting. Hubbard was hanging out with Burrow right after the college season ended. Hubbard admitted he was campaigning hard for Burrow to the Bengals. And reports said the Bengals had used the Hubbard connection to work on Burrow.

While the entire event should be a great time and Esiason being around for when the Bengals take their next franchise passer is exciting, it’s Hubbard’s presence that says it all — it’s Burrow time.

“It is in times like these when sports further highlight the amazing bonds in our community,” Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn said. “The Bengals look forward to celebrating this highly anticipated moment in team history as we look forward to the 2020 season.”

Bengals can use Ohio State link with Sam Hubbard in Joe Burrow pursuit

The Bengals have options when it comes to digging up info on Joe Burrow.

The Cincinnati Bengals aren’t without options when it comes to researching potential No. 1 pick Joe Burrow.

Zac Taylor has his coaching connections with Burrow’s father. Typical coaching connections abound too. The team finally got to meet with him at the combine and will do so again before the draft.

One lesser-mentioned link? Don’t forget Ohio State.

Albert Breer of MMQB suggested this connection could be getting some use right about now:

One relationship the Bengals can pull on with Joe Burrow: Third-year defensive end Sam Hubbard was actually roommates with Burrow at Ohio State. My understanding is they’ve tapped into that resource, enabling the team to get a feel for where Burrow is on coming to Cincinnati. Additionally, I’ve heard that Burrow has actually asked other teams about their impressions of the Bengals, so he’s doing his homework too.

Given the heights of Burrow’s accomplishments at LSU, it’s almost easy to forget he spent some time at Ohio State.

The Sam Hubbard link isn’t hard to fathom. Hubbard was already hanging out with Burrow after the season. Hubbard himself said he’s “campaigning hard” for the Bengals to make Burrow the pick.

While Bengals brass probably don’t need to go into overdrive on Burrow research at this point, it sure doesn’t hurt to have this Ohio State link working behind the scenes too.

Check out Joe Burrow hanging with Bengals stars, celebrities during Super Bowl week

Potential No. 1 pick Joe Burrow is hanging with Bengals stars like Sam Hubbard.

Cincinnati Bengals stars are very much doing their part on the Joe Burrow front.

Saturday, a note dropped saying defensive end Sam Hubbard was working the recruiting trail for Burrow while in the Miami area this week for the Super Bowl.

Based on plenty of social media posts, that indeed appears to be the case.

While the Bengals have a long, long way to go in the draft process before making a decision, it’s fun to chronicle the journey so far for Burrow, who looks like one of the most obvious No. 1 picks in recent memory.

Here are some of the posts — and a bonus with Rob Lowe:

Sam Hubbard is ‘campaigning hard’ for Joe Burrow to Bengals

One Bengals player really wants the Bengals to draft Joe Burrow.

Sam Hubbard is like many Cincinnati Bengals fans — he wants the team to make LSU’s Joe Burrow the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Carlos Dunlap let slip earlier in Super Bowl week that Hubbard was down in Miami hanging out with Burrow.

Let’s just say Hubbard himself has now confirmed the idea.

“One of the best leaders I’ve ever been around,” Hubbard said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “Great guy. Love the way he carries himself. I’ve got a lot of respect for him. Believe me, I’ll vouch for his character. I’m campaigning hard.”

Per the writeup, Hubbard now calls Miami home so he can be closer to where he trains in the offseason. That Ohio State connection is especially strong with Burrow this week with so many people in town for the big game.

Hubbard, a rising star in his own right, would clealry like to reunite with Burrow on the Bengals. While the front office and coaching staff is adamant it’ll go through the whole pre-draft process before making a decision, is seems likely he’ll get his wish.

Sam Hubbard is already hanging out with Joe Burrow, per Carlos Dunlap

Here’s some minor news Bengals fans will like to hear.

[jwplayer saSgDngl-ThvAeFxT]

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard is apparently already bringing Joe Burrow into the ways of the team ahead of the 2020 NFL draft.

While it’s all in good fun in the Miami area this week for the upcoming Super Bowl, Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap let slip that Hubbard is hanging out with Burrow.

Which makes sense, as the two have that old Ohio State connection. But any time Burrow comes into contact with a Bengals player before the draft, it’s going to register on the news scale.

Dunlap, appearing on ESPN’s “Now or Never” said that Hubbard is “courting” Hubbard.

Not that any such thing is necessary given the likelihood the Bengals take Burrow first overall. But it’s good to know one of the team’s firey young leaders and future stars might be playing a recruiting game of sorts already.

Sam Hubbard is a notable addition to Bengals injury report

Sam Hubbard is a new face on the injury report.

Normally the Wednesday injury report for the Cincinnati Bengals isn’t terribly interesting.

There, veterans like Geno Atkins and Tyler Eifert get rest days in a form of load management, especially this late in the season. Otherwise, it wasn’t a surprise to hear A.J. Green was once again out.

But that changed this particular Wednesday with defensive end Sam Hubbard popping up on the report.

Hubbard was one of those who didn’t practice, with head coach Zac Taylor telling the media the following: “From an injury standpoint, Sam Hubbard and Brandon Wilson, we’ll take care of them these next two days to get them through the week and expect them to play.”

The pass rush is just getting back to playing well and the ripple effect on the entire unit has been gigantic, so losing an element of that now would be problematic for the Bengals defense.

Hubbard has enjoyed a solid five-sack season while doing some interesting things in the new approach, such as dropping back into coverage. With the Green situation already resolved for at least another week, he’s now one of the biggest points to watch over the next two days.
