Saints Wire sends Vikings help at cornerback and wide receiver in newest mock

A three-round mock from our friends at Saints Wire has the Vikings filling two premium positions on the outside

The NFL Combine just wrapped up, and free agency is just around the corner, meaning that a lot will change for how teams attack the offseason, including the Minnesota Vikings. There are needs on both sides of the ball, and with limited draft capital, the Vikings will need to be tactical about how they want to address those needs.

John Sigler of Saints Wire released a three-round mock draft on Thursday and had the Vikings selecting South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith in the first round. In the third round, Sigler had the Vikings select Wake Forest wide receiver, A.T. Perry.

“The Vikings lucked into a top-15 prospect falling to them in the first round, thanks to the depth at corner in this class, and they went with a good prospect at receiver later on. It’s unclear how many more years Adam Thielen has left in him so it’s smart to start coaching up successors.”

Smith is a physical corner whose skills would perfectly complement what new defensive coordinator Brian Flores would like to do. While Perry is a prototypical X-receiver with crazy size who the Vikings could utilize as a true red zone threat to add to their arsenal.

We’re in a transition period for the Saints as their 2022 season winds down with the 2023 offseason looming just ahead. In this episode we’re previewing the season finale against with the Carolina Panthers and taking stock of all the latest NFL news and rumors surrounding the Saints — everything from the buzz linking Sean Payton to the Denver Broncos head coaching search to the Las Vegas Raiders benching franchise quarterback Derek Carr in hopes of preserving him for a trade, which makes New Orleans a natural fit with Dennis Allen, who drafted Carr into the NFL with the Raiders, once upon a time, on top of the organization. But would that move actually be an upgrade? Let’s discuss.

This week we’re reflecting on Dennis Allen’s 3-7 start to the season and his long odds of turning things around, and why the Saints have already seen plenty of reason to move on from him (or at least many fans have) after setting such high expectations over the summer. We’re also looking at the quarterback situation and previewing Week 11’s game with the Los Angeles Rams, who have fallen to 3-6 amid a Super Bowl hangover.

This week we’re taking stock of the Saints with one preseason game left to play — and the quarterback competition all but settled. Sean Payton is taking his time in declaring a starter, but despite Taysom Hill’s earlier confidence it looks like Jameis Winston has simply outplayed him when given the opportunity.
