Back in June, we asked Kansas City Chiefs fans if they believed the team would have a 1,000-yard rusher in 2023. With over 650 votes, 70.32% of fans voted, “Yes.”

It’s a bit surprising to see that, given that the last time the Chiefs had a 1,000-yard rusher was the 2017 NFL season. Kareem Hunt led all running backs with over 1,300 rushing yards that season in an offense quarterbacked by then-starter Alex Smith.

Fans have overwhelming confidence in the backfield featuring Isiah Pacheco after his rookie campaign saw 830 rushing yards on 170 attempts. He had over 1,000 rushing yards if you add his postseason numbers, but he’s yet to record that amount in the regular season alone.

Asked about his goals from his rookie season to his sophomore campaign, Pacheco told reporters after practice on Thursday that he’s working on the little things while striving to reach that rushing mark.

“It’s the details,” Pacheco explained. “Detailing my notes more, just finding little things to get better at. You know, for me, I want to run for a thousand yards. That’s the goal, obviously, but it starts here today, practice day by day.”

This is an enormous feat for a running back that plays on a pass-heavy team. The Chiefs attempted over 200 more passing attempts than rushing attempts just a season ago. Pacheco, however, didn’t emerge as the team’s start until Week 7 and only saw double-digit carries twice in the first six weeks of the season. He had double-digit carries in seven of his 11 starts to finish the 2022 NFL season.

Chris Carson ranks No. 7 in CBS Sports’ top 10 running backs for 2020

Seattle Seahawks rusher Chris Carson ranks No. 7 in CBS Sports’ top 10 running backs heading into the 2020 NFL regular season.

The Seattle Seahawks are known for their run game, however, the rushing attack took a huge hit last season when starter Chris Carson and backups Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise all finished the year on the injured reserve.

Before injuring his hip, Carson was able to manage 278 carries for 1230 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. For his efforts in 2019 and potential this upcoming season,

“Not mentioning Carson in the upper echelon of RBs is weird, because he deserves the nod,” Walker writes. “The problem is not many outside of the Pacific Northwest would include him in the conversation, and maybe it’s because he operates in the shadow of Russell Wilson and the Seahawks passing attack.”

“There’s also the fact he’s tasked with being a star in a post-Marshawn Lynch era – increasing the level of difficulty as it pertains to being recognized for his abilities,” Walker continues. “Make no mistake about it though, Carson gets the job done in all ways possible. You won’t see his name plastered across the Pro Bowl banners or on primetime football lead-ins, but ask Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll what the 25-year-old means to Seattle.”

With reports indicating Carson should be ready for camp at the end of July, he’ll have his shot to jump this ranks this season, assuming football is actually a go.

Seahawks running backs prove unstoppable Monday night against Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks turned to their trusty running back duo of Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny in their Monday night win over the Vikings.

The Seahawks turned to their trusty running back duo Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings to come away with a huge NFC win and the lead in the NFC West. Seattle beat Minnesota 37-30 Week 13 to advance to 10-2 on the year.

Starter Chris Carson and second-year running back, Rashaad Penny, split the load in primetime and each came away with major yardage and a rushing touchdown.

Carson scored first on a one-yard run in the first quarter after an impressive long of 25 yards to get the Seahawks in the red zone. On the night, he posted 23 carries for 102 yards and the TD. He also managed an absolutely huge third-down conversion in the final minutes of the game to basically seal the deal for Seattle.

Penny’s one-yard TD run came in the third quarter to tie up the game 17-17. He finished the outing with 15 touches for 74 yards on the ground and also factored nicely into the passing game, totaling four catches on five targets for 33 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Carson and Penny have been hot and cold throughout the year, with one or the other dominating each week. On Monday night, however, the group effort finally paid off and two combined for 176 yards rushing to give the Seahawks exactly what they needed to emerge victorious over the Vikings.
