Robert Turbin looking ahead to run game ‘based off of flow and rhythm’

Seattle Seahawks running back Robert Turbin believes he will contribute against the 49ers alongside Marshawn Lynch and rookie Travis Homer.

Marshawn Lynch wasn’t the only running back the Seahawks added to the roster this week. Seattle also signed another familiar face – Robert Turbin – who hopes to contribute to the team’s playoff run.

“It’s a good feeling, it’s a great feeling,” Turbin told reporters Thursday. “It’s like a dream come true. It’s like getting drafted all over again. This is the place I wanted to be if I had my choice. God made it happen. I’m here, I’m extremely blessed, and excited for the opportunity.”

Turbin was originally selected by the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft out of Utah State and played three years in Seattle. Since then, he has spent time with the Browns, Cowboys and Colts. His last workout was for the Raiders back in March.

Both Turbin and Lynch – who has been away from football for over a year – have some catching up to do before Sunday’s contest.

“Like I said, I have been training and I believe Marshawn has as well,” Turbin explained. “Obviously, the game is much different. You throw the pads on and the helmet and the intensity of the game is obviously higher. You can’t–that’s really hard to mimic when you’re training. Guys talk about it all the time when they come back for training camp. It’s like man, I thought I was in shape until I got here to training camp.

“We’ll see how it goes, I think it will be based off of flow and rhythm.”

Both running backs are expected to play on Sunday but rookie Travis Homer is the likely candidate to carry the majority of the load.

“We’ll have great communication on Sunday, but we definitely want to be able to contribute enough to help us win the football game,” Turbin said.

Turbin and Lynch have just two more days to find that “flow and rhythm” before they face the 49ers in what is arguably the Seahawks’ biggest game of the season.

The Beast is back: Seattle Seahawks sign running back Marshawn Lynch

Seattle Seahawks fans got an early Christmas present with the news the team has signed former superstar running back, Marshawn Lynch.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Seahawks fans, Seattle has officially signed running back Marshawn Lynch to the roster.

Lynch arrived in town for a visit and physical on Monday and coach Pete Carroll and the staff in the front office weren’t going to let him leave without a signed contract in hand.

The move, albeit a desperate one for Seattle, comes on the heels of the losses of both starter Chris Carson and backup running back C.J. Prosise, who suffered season-ending injuries in the Seahawks’ Week-16 loss to the Cardinals. Carson is now out for the year with a hip fracture, Prosise with a broken arm.

The Seahawks followed up with the most prudent move possible, re-signing superstar Lynch just in time for the team’s battle against the 49ers for the Week 17 showdown. No other bruising back in the league could give Seattle the boost it needs to win the division Sunday night.

Although Lynch might be over a year removed from a football field, there’s no one else Seattle fans would rather see on the field in the prime-time matchup.

Lynch and the Seahawks are set to square off against San Francisco on Dec. 29 at 5:20 p.m. PT.

WATCH: NFL fans call for the return of Marshawn Lynch after Seahawks lose 2 more RBs to injury Sunday

The Seahawks really need running backs right now, but this would be wild… Beast Mode back with Seattle?

The Seahawks really need running backs right now, but this would be wild… Beast Mode back with Seattle?

The team entered Week 16 with Rashaad Penny out for the season, but after losing Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise to injury during the team’s home loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, fans are calling for the return of Marshawn Lynch… Just one season into the 33-year-old’s second retirement.

But it’s not just fans. Seattle Times beat reporter Bob Condotta tweeted Sunday that he doesn’t think a return can be ruled out and then his co-worker Matt Calkins authored a column that ran with the Times which endorses the idea.

Lynch announced his first retirement on Twitter memorably the night of SB 50 back in 2016. One season later though, Lynch was back in the NFL with his hometown team, the Raiders.

While Lynch played in all but one game in 2017, missing only due to suspension for shoving a line judge. In 2018, the physical runner had his season cut short because of an injury. Lynch only played in six contests with Oakland last year before a groin injury (which he suffered in a game versus .. the Seahawks!) landed him on IR and he re-retired.

Calkins reminded fans that Lynch stopped by the team facility earlier this month to see old friends, but the paper also reported that Lynch has also said he’d only come out of retirement again for the Raiders.

Perhaps the most realistic option now for the Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson, and company is C.J. Anderson. Anderson’s name is also mentioned by the reports. The 28-year-old played in two games this season in September with the Lions (3-11). Notably, Anderson is *not* retired.

But Lynch returning for the Seahawks season finale to take on the 49ers (12-3) for the division title? It can technically happen as he hasn’t filed retirement papers yet. We can only ask he returns with that one signature line… “You know why I’m here.”

Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise likely out for remainder of Seahawks’ season

Seattle Seahawks running backs Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise, who suffered injuries against the Cardinals, are likely out for the season.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a devasting loss to the Arizona Cardinals Week 16 but even more disappointing is the injuries to the running backs as the team continues its push for the division crown.

Both starter Chris Carson and backup C.J. Prosise suffered potential season-ending injuries Sunday afternoon. Carson sustained some damage to his hip and Prosise broke his arm.

“We did get both our running backs banged up today – Chris and C.J. both got hurt,” coach Pete Carroll said in his postgame press conference. “They are out. We’ve got to get to scambling and Johnny’s (Schneider) got to get to work and figure out what we’re doing next. It’s a lot of game for (Travis) Homer to have to play by himself.

“So we’ll make some moves here and figure stuff out.”

As of now, Homer remains the only healthy running back on the Seahawks’ active roster. Seattle could call up Xavier Turner from the practice squad but will likely attempt to sign a veteran or two to add some depth to the incredibly depleted position.

This story is continuing to develop.

Seahawks lose 2 running backs to injury in 1st half against Cardinals

Seattle Seahawks running backs Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise suffered injuries against the Arizona Cardinals and won’t return to the game.

The Seahawks have already lost running back Rashaad Penny for the season due to a torn ACL and will now be without both Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise for the remainder of the Week 16 contest against the Arizona Cardinals.

Both running backs suffered injuries in the first half of the game and neither will return to the matchup.

Carson was initially deemed questionable to return with a hip injury but was ruled out shortly after the start of the third quarter per the TV broadcast. Prosise has been sidelined with an arm injury.

With Carson and Prosise now unavailable, that leaves rookie Travis Homer to shoulder the load in the run game. Seattle selected Homer in the sixth round of this year’s draft out of Miami.

Carson finished the day with eight carries for 40 yards and Prosise logged four touches for 14 yards.

Coach Pete Carroll should have injury updates on both running backs during his post-game press conference.

As of this post, the Cardinals lead the Seahawks 20-7 in the third quarter.

Are Alabama RB’s taking over the NFL?

Alabama has produced talented players throughout the years on both sides of the ball at almost every position. However, it seems like this 2019 NFL season is showing that The Crimson Tide might be great at producing running backs.

Let’s check-in on the top active running backs in the NFL to have come out of Alabama:

Kenyan Drake:

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama product found little to no success in Miami after being drafted by the Dolphins in 2016.

Lucky for Drake, five weeks into the 2019 season he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, who have been desperate for a consistent back since their incumbent starter, David Johnson, has recently been attacked by the injury bug.

In his six weeks in Arizona, Drake has carried the ball 87 times for a total of 417 yards and five touchdowns – four of those five touchdowns came in a single game vs. Cleveland.

Drake is still settling into his role as the lead back for the franchise, but if the trend of increasing carries and yards continue, the NFL might have to look out for the lethal combo of Drake and Kyler Murray in the Arizona backfield.

Seahawks taking advantage of running back depth with Rashaad Penny out

The Seattle Seahawks will look to C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer to back up Chris Carson now that Rashaad Penny is out for the season.

Injuries have taken their toll on the Seattle Seahawks’ offense this season, including hits to the tight ends and starters upfront. The most recent position group to lose a member is the running backs, now that Rashaad Penny has been shut down for the year after tearing his ACL.

Seattle has utilized the one-two punch of starter Chris Carson and Penny with success lately, but will now have to turn to the next man – or men – up, to get the job done.

“That’s the beauty of the depth that we have on our roster, the beauty of having a C.J. Prosise that you’re like, ‘okay, I’m a huge C.J. fan,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday. “The ability just to make people miss. The ability in the passing game. You obviously see we’ve used him in third-down situations before, two-minute situations before. He’s got a huge upside. I think he’s excited about the opportunity.”

But Prosise isn’t the Seahawks’ only option to back up Carson, Travis Homer is slated to see some time too.

“Travis is a guy that we’ve liked the whole time,” Schottenheimer explained. “Both those guys we feel really good about, just the way they play. Travis is very physical. Good understanding of the protections and stuff already, being a young player.

“You hate to see it for Rashaad having a great last couple games – those guys will step up and they’ll be ready.”

Prosise is expected to get the first look behind Carson in Carolina when the Seahawks and Panthers kick off Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny will continue 1-2 punch for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks won’t hesitate to utilize both running backs on gamedays – starter Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny – to split the load.

The Seattle Seahawks got the run production they’d been looking for when Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny combined for their most rushing yards all season Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

“It is awesome, it is so much fun to see those two guys battling it out,” coach Pete Carroll said after the game. “I think Chris got 100 and Rashaad got 70-something. That’s fantastic. I thought Rashaad looked so fast tonight. He just looked so explosive. The screenplay was a beautiful call and beautiful execution, and it just showed that burst that he has and why he’s so exciting.”

Both running backs logged a rushing touchdown Week 13 and Penny posted a receiving score as well. With both backs hot in the same outing, Carroll was asked whether or not the time split was planned.

“You guys keep asking me, but there’s no plan on this one, they’re just playing,” Carroll stated. “And when we see how the game goes, we might give a guy a few more here or a few more there. We don’t know, because they’re both really good. We love them and we just play them. Chris is the starter, so he winds up getting some more carries, but they’re playing as 1-2, and I don’t know who is One and I don’t know who is Two. They’re doing great.”

The Seahawks’ running backs have another tough test in front of them this Sunday night against the Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:20 p.m. in Los Angeles.
