While it wasn’t made official on Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers appeared to have finalized signing the team’s rookie draft class in 2023.

Per agent David Canter on Twitter, the Packers and receiver Jayden Reed have agreed to a rookie deal.

Tight end Luke Musgrave signed officially on Wednesday, leaving Reed as the Packers’ only unsigned draft pick. Once the Reed deal is official, the Packers will have all 13 draft picks signed ahead of training camp. An announcement will be expected on Thursday.

Per Over the Cap, Reed, as the 50th overall pick in the draft, will get a four-year, $7.18 million deal with a $2.22 million signing bonus. His cap number will be around $1.30 million in 2023.

Reed and the rest of the Packers rookies are due to report to training camp on Friday, July 21. The first training camp practice is Wednesday, July 26.

Josh Jacobs may hold out until Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season

Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders are at contract stalemate right now, which could lead to a holdout

After leading the NFL in rushing last season, Las Vegas Raiders running-back, [autotag]Josh Jacobs[/autotag], is looking to be paid as one of the best running backs in the league, and deservedly so. Jacobs was the Raiders’ No. 24 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft and agreed to a five-year deal with the final year being a team option.

Entering the 2022 season, Jacobs’ fourth year in the league, Las Vegas declined to pick up his fifth-year option which would have allowed for Jacobs to be a free agent this summer. Unfortunately for Jacobs, the Raiders placed the franchise tag on him for 2023 which will pay him around $10.1 million.

However, reports indicate that Jacobs was frustrated by this move as he has been in search of a long-term deal. If the Raiders and the former Alabama running back can’t come to a long-term deal by the season then Jacobs will hit the free agency market in 2024, where he would have no shortage of suitors.

On the Rich Eisen Show, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero shared his uncertainty about Jacobs’ future saying, “The one that nobody’s talking about is Josh Jacobs, the reigning NFL rushing champion. At this point, if there’s not a long-term deal, I don’t anticipate Josh Jacobs being there at the start of training camp and I don’t know that he shows up in Week 1.”

Unless a deal is reached, there is a very possible chance that Jacobs may hold out well into the season.

Saints announce fourth-round draft pick Jake Haener has signed his rookie contract

The Saints announced that fourth-round draft pick Jake Haener signed his rookie contract on Tuesday, leaving just one rookie left to put pen to paper:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

And then there was one: the New Orleans Saints announced Tuesday that rookie quarterback Jake Haener (Fresno State) signed his first NFL contract after the team picked him in the fourth round of this year’s draft, meaning six of the Saints’ seven draft picks have signed on the dotted line and officially turned pro.

Haener signed not long after the Saints inked their first-round pick Bryan Bresee (Clemson), with four other rookies having signed before this past weekend’s minicamp practices began. The lone remaining unsigned pick is Isaiah Foskey, a second-round defensive end from Notre Dame.

What’s the holdup? The NFL’s latest collective bargaining agreements have drastically streamlined the process for drafted players to negotiate their contracts while introducing a new rookie wage scale, so there really isn’t much haggling to be done once both sides come together.

The only thing that can really be debated is what percentage of a contract may be guaranteed, with first-rounders and many players selected early in the second round getting fully-guaranteed deals. Foskey, selected at No. 40 overall, may be dealing with the same frustrations that cornerback Alontae Taylor experienced last year as New Orleans’ second-rounder Alontae Taylor (the No. 49 pick), who didn’t sign until later in the summer while going back and forth with the team about his contract details. Hopefully, the Saints can work things out with Foskey sooner than they did with Taylor, who didn’t sign until July.

Now under contract, Cowboys CB Kelvin Joseph will look to work depth chart

After inking Micah Parsons to his rookie deal on Wednesday, the Cowboys signed cornerback Kelvin Joseph on Thursday.

The Dallas Cowboys are getting close to having their entire rookie class under contract. On Wednesday, first-round pick Micah Parsons put his signature on his rookie deal, becoming the seventh member of the Cowboys 2021 draft class to do so.

Once Parsons was selected after the Cowboys didn’t bring in Jaycee Horn or Patrick Surtain as most anticipated, they took care of their need to find another young cornerback to play opposite 2020 second-round pick, Trevon Diggs. Kelvin Joseph, who some had a first-round grade on, was the Cowboys pick at 44 out of Kentucky, and on Thursday, he officially kicked off his journey in Dallas by agreeing to terms on his four-year rookie contract.

Joseph only played two collegiate seasons. In 2018, he appeared in 11 games and made 12 tackles at LSU as a true freshman. However, he was suspended for violating team rules just ahead of the 2019 Fiesta Bowl and entered the transfer portal. He withdrew his name and attended the Tiger’s spring practices but re-entered the portal and eventually announced that he’d be attending the University of Kentucky.

He would have to sit out the entire 2019 season due to transfer rules. Once he stepped on the field for Wildcats last season it was clear that Joseph had tremendous potential and could have a future on the next level. He started the first nine games of the season and recorded 25 tackles. Also, his four interceptions (returned one for a touchdown against Tennessee) were tied for second in the SEC.

He opted out of the final game of the 2020 season to prepare for the NFL draft.

The second-rounder missed a portion of OTAs due to a 10-day quarantine as he dealt with COVID-19, but returned for mandatory minicamp this week.

Joseph will have a battle on his hands for playing time as it appears veteran Anthony Brown has the lead or the CB2 spot according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. But, there’s still plenty of time for Joseph to get acclimated to Dan Quinn’s scheme and make a push to be a Week 1 starter, and training camp will be his best opportunity to do so.

The Cowboys only have two of their third-round picks, Chauncey Golston and Nahshon Wright, to get under contract before the season starts.

Notre Dame in NFL – Chase Claypool Inks Rookie Deal with Steelers

Former Notre Dame star turned Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool has inked his first NFL deal. Find out details on it here.

Former Notre Dame star receiver and the 49th overall pick in this past years NFL Draft, Chase Claypool has signed his rookie deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Claypool let it be known to the world that he has officially signed the deal as he took to Twitter to announce it.

Terms were not officially released yet by the Steelers.  However, Tom Loy of 247Sports reports that its a four year deal worth roughly 6.161 million dollars for Claypool.

Personally I can’t get over how great of a landing spot this appears to be for the former Notre Dame star.  If you were a young wide receiver where would you want to go in order to have the best chance at NFL success?

It’s hard to argue with what the Steelers have done at receiver historically as a franchise, but especially in the last decade or so the talent they continuously develop at the position is seemingly unmatched.

Seattle Seahawks sign Colby Parkinson to rookie deal

The Seattle Seahawks have signed the first of their rookie deals, inking tight end Colby Parkinson to a four-year, $3.96 million pact.

The Seattle Seahawks have officially signed 2020 fourth round pick, tight end Colby Parkinson, to his rookie contract.

All rookie contracts are four-year deals and the amount tendered is based on where they were selected in the draft. For Parkinson, who was selected 133rd overall, he will receive a four-year deal worth $3.96 million, which includes $670,440 in signing bonuses spread out over four years.

While these deals are predetermined, the signing does have an impact on the salary cap. Parkinson will be a $777,610 hit against the team’s cap space in 2020, a figure that will rise incrementally each year through the 2023 season, as long as he remains on the roster.

Parkinson is one of two tight ends the Seahawks selected in the 2020 NFL draft, along with seventh rounder Stephen Sullivan out of LSU.

Parkinson is a big (six-foot-seven) red zone target for Russell Wilson, and his experience lining up out wide could make him an atypical slot receiver of sorts for the Seahawks in 2020 and beyond, as they look to build a unit of weapons around Wilson.
