Defense forces huge fumble for touchdown to get Browns back in the game

The Browns’ defense keeps them in the game!

The Cleveland Browns forced a turnover when the team needed it most against the Las Vegas Raiders as defensive end Isaiah McGuire punched the football out and safety Rodney McLeod ran it back for six.

In the fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah forced a fumble that resulted in a Browns touchdown. The Browns linebacker has been quiet compared to his usual performance, and he came up big for the Browns here in the fourth quarter.

The hit on Raiders running back Zamir White jarred the ball loose and was scooped up by Browns safety Rodney Mcleod Jr. A momentum swing Cleveland desperately needed.

Jim Schwartz’s defense has lost energy against the Las Vegas offense as each possession progressed. Injuries have overcome the team’s confidence and ability to play to their full potential. This turnover will hopefully turn their hopes around and help them find their footing here in the fourth quarter. Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins missed the extra point after the defensive touchdown as Cleveland is still down a score. We’ll see if they can create another turnover to help the team secure a win.

Browns Podcast: Previewing Cleveland’s group at the safety position

Cleveland’s safety group has the talent to get the job done

The Cleveland Browns had one of the league’s best defenses in 2023, and their secondary played a big part in that. Last year was a disappointing year for safety Juan Thornhill, who injured his calf before the first game and had it linger all season. Thornhill will be better in 2024, and having him as a safety blanket over the top will help this defense be great again.

Grant Delpit is ready to break out, and having a chess piece like that can be moved around is invaluable for Jim Schwartz. And then you have the veteran Rodney Mcleod Jr., who has seen a lot of football and can play all over the defensive backfield like Delpit.

This group of safeties isn’t quite as good as the corners but still has plenty of talent. You can hear more about the safety room, Chubb’s squatting video, and more by clicking here to check out the latest podcast.

Former Eagles safety Rodney McLeod to retire after 2024 NFL season

Former Philadelphia Eagles and current Cleveland Browns safety Rodney McLeod to retire after 2024 NFL season

Another member of the Eagles 20217 Super Bowl team will be retiring at season’s end. Browns safety Rodney McLeod says 2024 is his final year.

“This is the last lap for me. It’s been a long career,” McLeod said on NFL Network.

McLeod signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2012, starting 48 games from 2013-2015, before joining the Eagles on a five-year, $35-million deal in 2016 and helping the team defeat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

McLeod signed with Indianapolis in 2022 before spending last season with Cleveland, logging 29 tackles in ten games.

Browns S Rodney McLeod: ‘This is my last lap’

The veteran safety has declared this season his last.

Veteran safety Rodney McLeod re-signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason after he played through a one-year deal a year ago. His season ended with a biceps injury that required surgery, but McLeod is ready to roll again in 2024.

And it turns out, this will be McLeod’s final season in the NFL as he has told NFL Total Access he will hang up his cleats after the 2024 season.

McLeod has had a long career, suiting up for all of the St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and the Browns. He won one Super Bowl with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in Philadelphia and has won the Alan Page Award in 2021.

We’re glad you signed in Cleveland a year ago, and that you’ve decided to end your career in Cleveland, Rodney.

As the Browns and their NFL’s best defense return to work, they will look to send McLeod out on a high note in 2024.

Browns S Rodney McLeod ready for ‘one last lap’ in 2024

The veteran safety hints that the 2024 season will be his last.

After re-signing with the Cleveland Browns, veteran safety Rodney McLeod hints that the 2024 season will be his last as well.

McLeod is entering the 2024 season at the age of 34 and on the heels of a biceps injury that ended his 2023 season and required surgery. Suppose this truly is the end of the line for McLeod. In that case, he will go down as a Super Bowl champion, Alan Page award winner, and a consistent contributor throughout his 13-year NFL career with the St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Browns.

McLeod took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his excitement to return to the Dawg Pound, but added another note:

“Beyond grateful to run it back in Cleveland for one last lap!!!”

While the young safeties D’Anthony Bell and Ronnie Hickman Jr. filled in well for McLeod in his absence, there is a level of security with having the sturdy veteran on the field with Grant Delpit and Juan Thornhill.

Joining the likes of defensive end Za’Darius Smith and defensive tackles Maurice Hurst and Shelby Harris, the Browns are set to run it back with the league’s best defense from a year ago.

Veteran S Rodney McLeod officially back with Browns in 2024

The vet is back!

While NFL rumors indicated the Cleveland Browns and veteran safety Rodney McLeod were close to a reunion in 2024, the two have officially agreed to a new deal today.

McLeod was a crucial piece to the puzzle in the secondary’s transition under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Playing under Schwartz in Philadelphia, McLeod brought a level of professionalism and leadership to that unit a year ago.

Suffering a season-ending bicep injury near the end of last season, however, it did not seem likely that McLeod would be ready to go in 2024. However, time cannot keep the old man down as he will be back in Cleveland again this next season.

McLeod joins the likes of Za’Darius Smith, Shelby Harris, and Maurice Hurst to return to a Cleveland defense that was the best in the league a year ago. With Juan Thornhill and Grant Delpit both under contract as well, the Browns have retained their entire safety room from a year ago.

Report: Browns and S Rodney McLeod are close to new deal

The Browns are close to retaining another of their own.

As the Cleveland Browns continue to trek along through free agency, the newest NFL rumor is that they are close to retaining another of their own in safety Rodney McLeod.

The safety signed with the Browns on a one-year last year, predominantly due to his connection to defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. However, the soon-to-be 34-year-old suffered a season-ending tear to his biceps. Given his age and the nature of his injury, one that required surgery, there were many skeptical this could be it for McLeod.

He is fighting back, however, and now looks primed for another one-year deal. This would lead to the Browns retaining their entire safety room from a year ago. McLeod’s former teammate under Schwartz in Philadelphia, linebacker Jordan Hicks, was recently signed by the Browns on a two-year deal as well.

With so few holes to fill in free agency in the first place, the Browns have done excellent work to retain the majority of their talent that hit the open market. McLeod looks to be next on that list.

Former Eagles safety Rodney McLeod trolled Bill Belichick after Patriots exit with Super Bowl 52 reminder

Okay, this was very funny.

Cleveland Browns safety Rodney McLeod got perhaps the best trolling in at former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick after he exited the franchise on Thursday.

McLeod was a part of the Philadelphia Eagles team that beat the Patriots in Super Bowl 52, and McLeod used a photo of him celebrating with his former Philadelphia teammates while Belichick was walking by to send him off.

McLeod called it “the only photo I have of myself and Belichick!”

Whew, now that’s a funny way to wish the greatest NFL coach of all time well before his next coaching stop in the league.

While we’re not sure where Belichick will coach next, we are sure that McLeod’s social media post made us chuckle.

We’ll see how Belichick transitions into this next phase of his career, and we commend McLeod for finding an inspired way to lightly poke at Belichick during one of the more historic moments in the NFL lately.
