Rob Gronkowski finally revealed the full story of how the Patriots almost traded him to the Lions

Rob Gronkowski has finally shared the story about how the Patriots almost traded him to the Lions in 2018.

Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski is one of the defining personalities and talents of his generation, and he only played for two teams in the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the course of his career.

However, Gronkowski recently told NFL Network’s Peter Schrager a fascinating story about how the Patriots almost traded him back in 2018 to the Detroit Lions.

The story, told with some bleeped-out NSFW language, involves Gronkowski having some “disconnect” with the Patriots. Apparently, a possible trade to the Lions almost materialized in 2018, but the tight end vetoed the deal.

Gronkowski added that a trade to any team at this time in his career would’ve sparked in an immediate retirement. We’ll let him take it from here.

That’s a fascinating “what could’ve been” situation for Gronkowski’s career, as his play indeed helped the Patriots win their last Super Bowl with the future Hall of Fame tight end and quarterback Tom Brady in 2019.

It’d have been something to see Gronk play with any other quarterback besides Brady, but this will just have to file itself away in the “almost” category of NFL history.

Rob Gronkowski comments on drinking story in typical ‘Gronk’ fashion

Julian Edelman and Patrick Chung called out an ex-teammate’s Rob Gronkowski story as fake. But what did Gronkowski have to say about it?

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Rob Gronkowski appreciated the support from Julian Edelman following a juicy story told by a former teammate.

When appearing on “Primetime with Alex Stein,” via Fox News, former Patriots defensive end Jake Bequette said that Gronkowski used to party out in Boston until the early morning hours. He would then be driven to the Patriots facility, where he would pass out on the training tables.

Edelman did not take too kindly to the story, labeling it “BS” in a tweet over the weekend.

In typical “Gronk” fashion, the legendary tight end retweeted Edelman’s Twitter post and responded with a couple of emojis.

If anything, this shows that Gronk will be Gronk, and the bond between teammates can often never be broken, even with playing days in the past.

Another former Patriot rejects ex-teammate’s Rob Gronkowski story

Another former Patriots player joins Julian Edelman in calling out ex-teammate’s Rob Gronkowski story

Former New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung is joining Julian Edelman to call out an ex-teammate’s drunken Rob Gronkowski story as fake.

Jake Bequette, a former defensive end for the Patriots, appeared on “Primetime with Alex Stein” and talked up tales of the legendary tight end getting wasted on the eve of football games, being dropped off at the Patriots’ facilities and crashing on the training tables.

According to Bequette, the trainers would then come in the next morning and stick an IV in Gronkowski’s arm to get him going for game day.

“They would go over there, they wouldn’t wake him up, they would roll up one of his sleeves and, you know, stick an IV in his arm,” said Bequette, via Fox News. After a couple hours, he would just wake up like Frankenstein revived and go out there and just kick ass.”

Edelman called out the story as fake over the weekend, and Chung retweeted that response on Twitter, while also sharing some thoughts of his own.

“Exactly. People just want their time of fame. Willing to do anything to get it,” Chung posted.

There have been multiple drunken Gronkowski stories over the years that it’s sometimes hard to separate fact from fiction for outsiders.

However, there’s no accomplishing anything close to what Gronkowski did over the course of his illustrious career without incredible discipline and work ethic. The difference between the working and party ratio couldn’t have been close.

Julian Edelman calls former teammate’s Rob Gronkowski story fake

Julian Edelman calls out ex-teammate’s Rob Gronkowski story

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former legendary New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman has seemingly had enough of the epic stories depicting a drunken Rob Gronkowski partying himself unconscious before football games.

A recent story from Edelman’s former teammate Jake Bequette claimed Gronkowski would get wasted before games and have his crew drop him off at the Patriots’ facility, where he’d crash for the night on one of the training tables.

“So then, like an hour or two later, when the trainers would come in to start their workday, they’d come in there and see Gronk just sprawled out on the training table, just fast asleep,” said Bequette, when appearing on “Primetime with Alex Stein”, via Fox News. “They would go over there, they wouldn’t wake him up, they would roll up one of his sleeves and, you know, stick an IV in his arm. After a couple hours, he would just wake up like Frankenstein revived and go out there and just kick ass.”

That’s a story that would have taken the drunken Gronkowski tales to another level, but according to Edelman, it isn’t true.

“Story is BS. Everyone wants to paint Gronk as a party animal. When in reality he was one of the most dedicated teammates I had,” Edelman posted on social media.

It’s clear Gronkowski had to put in the work to finish his career as the greatest tight end in NFL history.

Not only did he show up to work every day, but he also earned the trust of the greatest quarterback that ever lived, Tom Brady, on route to winning four Super Bowls in his career.

We can all admit that would be tough to achieve as a Frankenstein version of himself.

Rob Gronkowski wants to see Joe Burrow take team-friendly deal

Gronk shares his thoughts on the Bengals-Joe Burrow extension chatter.

Count former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski among those who want to see Joe Burrow take a team-friendly deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The conversation around Burrow’s upcoming contract extension amplified this talking point recently because Burrow admitted he’s keeping in mind guys like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins during his own negotiations.

Appearing on the “Up & Adams” show with Kay Adams, Gronkowski outlined why he would like to see Burrow do a Brady-like deal:

“With the contract now, he’s already thinking he wants good players around him…and that’s a great thing. What’s the difference, if you’re a quarterback, you’re in this day and era, you’re in this market and you have good teammates around you, your building your legacy, you’re going to be in Super Bowl contention…what’s the difference between $47-48 million or $53-54 million when the next highest guy on the team is only getting paid in the 20s?”

Keep in mind, Gronkowski has been adamant in his Burrow fandom for some time now. He’d also know a thing or two about quarterback team-friendly deals after his days with Brady.

But the team-friendly idea is a controversial one. If the pay cut difference isn’t that big of a deal for Burrow, it’s probably not a big deal for a billion-dollar franchise, either.

When talking about team-friendly deals, it’s only going to be friendly in a structure sense, perhaps similar to what Patrick Mahomes’ rolling-guarantees deal did for the Chiefs, saving the team cap space. Burrow’s undoubtedly still going to land as one of the league’s highest-paid players, if not highest outright until the next quarterback contract gets signed.

Rob Gronkowski: Darren Waller will return to Pro Bowl form with Giants

Rob Gronkowski expects Darren Waller to thrive under New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and return to Pro Bowl form in 2023.

Rob Gronkowski, the ‘retired’ four-time Super Bowl Champion and four-time first-team All-Pro tight end knows a few things about the position he played in the NFL.

In a recent interview with Kay Adams on Up &Adams, Gronk predicted that Darren Waller, in his first year with the New York Giants, will have a bounce-back, Pro Bowl season.

“(Brian Daboll) loves to use tight ends,” Gronkowski said. “I say this: Watch Darren Waller have a year this year. He’s going to have a year.”

Just how good of a year? Adams pressed Gronk for more.

“Yeah, yeah. He’s going to be up there this year,” Gronk said when asked if Waller will be the NFL’s best tight end. “Daboll is going to find a way to use him and utilize his skill set like no other. He’s going to be all over the field.

“This year I believe he’s going to come back and he’s going to be a Pro Bowl-caliber type player.”

Gronk knows that Waller will be under the watchful eye of Daboll, who incidentally was his position coach in New England for four seasons, and tight ends coach Andy Bischoff, a 30-year coaching veteran.

Waller was a Pro Bowler for the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2020 but injuries the last two seasons limited his production. The Giants sent a 2023 third-round to the Raiders on March 15 this year in exchange for Waller.

Rob Gronkowski picking up new sport, puts end to NFL return rumors

Rob Gronkowski isn’t done competing, but he’s officially done playing in the NFL.

Former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski made a definitive statement earlier this week about whether he will return to the NFL.

The Arizona product had a stellar career, one that included 621 catches for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns. He was also a part of several Super Bowl teams, most recently winning one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2020 season.

There was a chance that he was going to come back last season and possibly even play for the rival Buffalo Bills. But that did not come to fruition, and he resisted the urge to come out of retirement for a second time. Now, he is certain he will be calling it quits, as he told TMZ Sports over the weekend.

“There’s no chance anymore,” said Gronkowski. “I’m happily retired. I actually picked up pickle ball. I beat my brother, Chris, who plays with pros, and my other brother, Gordon, who plays with pros, too. And I beat them with an average Joe—my other brother, Glenn G., was my partner.”

This effectively puts a bow on what was one of the most dominant careers by a tight end in NFL history. This just goes to show that all good things eventually come to an end.

Rob Gronkowski explains why Mac Jones trade talk is ‘fake news’

Rob Gronkowski gave his thoughts on the Mac Jones trade rumors.

Rob Gronkowski knows a thing or two about how New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick conducts business, and when it comes to the business of Mac Jones, according to Gronkowski, something isn’t adding up.

The former longtime Patriots tight end made an appearance on “Up & Adams” on Wednesday to share his thoughts on Jones’ future with the Patriots.

A report on Tuesday claimed the Patriots had shopped the 24-year-old quarterback to at least four different teams in the league, which set off a firestorm of speculation that the former first-round draft pick really could be on the outs in New England.

But Gronkowski isn’t buying it, and he had some interesting points when explaining why.

“I think that was fake news. There was just too much turnover this year,” said Gronkowski. “He already got a new offensive coordinator that he brought into place, just the whole offensive staff was basically turned over this year, and then if you’re shipping your quarterback, that’s just too much turnover to have in the NFL in one season and to be able to compete the following year.”

Gronkowski makes some great points for a Patriots team that would need an immediate backup plan if they parted ways with Jones.

They still have Bailey Zappe on the roster, but it would take a major leap of faith to promote him as a starter in an AFC East division that could have Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa and possibly even Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

They could always draft another quarterback or even attempt to pull off a blockbuster trade for Lamar Jackson. But the more realistic option would be sticking with Jones and seeing how he bounces back in his third season.

If he struggles to get back on track under newly-hired offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, Gronkowski might have a change of heart.

“I think that’s fake news,” said Gronkowski. “But in the future, if Mac Jones doesn’t put it together this year with Billy O’Brien and all that, I can see that being a possibility after this season.”

Tom Brady recreated the Top Gun shirtless beach scene with Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman

Eat your hearts out, Tom Cruise and Miles Teller.

Tom Brady seems to really be enjoying the fruits of his retirement from the NFL. He’s now a part owner of the WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces, and he’s even started taking care of an adorable cat.

His latest venture? Playing shirtless beach football, ala Top Gun: Maverick, with ex-New England Patriots teammates Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.

A video captured by TV host Camille Kostek shows off the football greats recreating the famous beach scene. To put the cherry on top, it even has the same music overlayed from the movie.

Yes, Brady and Co. certainly aren’t “worried about it right now.”

Gronkowski beating Brady in coverage at the line of scrimmage? More of that! Yes, please! Though, to be fair, everything about this little clip is perfect.

Former NFL star Rob Gronkowski on meeting Tiger Woods, Shooter McGavin and what he’d serve at his Masters Champions Dinner

“An ice-cold beverage inside, just getting a little tipsy at all times, baby.”

Rob Gronkowski isn’t much of a golfer, but he’s having himself a day at the Valspar Championship.

On Friday, Gronk answered a few questions from the media at Innsbrook’s Copperhead Course, and by the sound of it he’s loving it in Palm Harbor, Florida.

“So I came to the Valspar last year and just had a wonderful time,” he said. “What’s so special about it is you get to watch some golf, but at the same time, this place is so awesome. I was also playing cornhole while watching everyone play golf. So I got to do some activities because I love activities. I won some games in cornhole versus — some of the Lightning guys, actually I beat them in cornhole.

“It’s just awesome.”

As for playing golf, Gronk doesn’t get out that much — but he does have lofty goals.

“I probably played about one round total of golf in the past six years,” he said. “I’ve been playing a lot of the golf simulators back up north. I’ve been getting better. Let me tell you, those golf simulators, they’re the real deal. I feel like they’re very accurate actually.

“There’s one thing I love to do is putt-putt. But I’m telling you right now, I’m just really young still, been living the fast life, but I’m starting to calm down more and I feel like golf is going to be one of my games in the future. I will be playing in pro-ams eventually. I would say I’m going to be a par guy one day. About 15 years I’ll be shooting par.”

Gronk has yet to spend time with many current PGA Tour players, but he has had a few brushes with golf greatness through the years.

“I actually never really met any professional golf players ever. I really haven’t. Not in person, no. I met Tiger Woods one time real quick. He was in the big golf tournament up in New England and he was working out at our facility,” Gronkowski said. “Oh, yeah, and he just walked by, and I said, What up, Tiger? And he said, What up, Gronk? I shook his hand. So that’s the only professional guy I’ve ever met, I’m pretty sure.

“But I did meet Shooter McGavin before, actually, and if you ask me, he’s the No. 1 most professional golf guy ever. I met Shooter.”

[pickup_prop id=”31984″]

With the Masters coming up in a few weeks, Gronk was asked what would be on his menu if he was hosting the Champions Dinner.

“My menu would be cheeseburgers, chicken finger subs, Buffalo wings with blue cheese on the side, and of course my lovely ice shaker right here with an ice cold beverage inside, just getting a little tipsy at all times, baby,” he said.
