USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school football recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2022 to ’23 and beyond.

June is inching closer by the day, which means official visit season is right around the corner.

Some programs are already conducting official visits this month, but the bulk of the trips elite prospects across the nation take will occur in June. Let’s take a closer look at where some blue-chip recruits are heading next month, as well as the schools that are standing out to some intriguing prospects.

Notre Dame makes final three for California star receiver with decision looming

Who will he choose in early July

The good news for Notre Dame recruiting is flowing, this time however it’s on the offensive side of the ball. Of the twelve current commitments, head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman’s[/autotag] efforts have been heavy on defense and that could be changing soon.

Just today, California four-star receiver [autotag]Rico Flores[/autotag] announced his final three schools and his commitment date. Flores will choose from Georgia, Ohio State and Notre Dame in a little less than two months, on July 3rd. One of these lucky schools could be celebrating with fireworks the next day, and for Freeman, the hope is that it will be the Irish.

Flores trimmed his list from five to three, as he eliminated UCLA and Texas with his final cut. The Irish will also have the last visit before Flores makes his choice, as he will be in South Bend starting June 10th, while he has already visited Ohio State and Georgia previously.

Texas WR target Rico Flores Jr sets commitment date

Texas remains squarely in the mix for one of the top prospects in California.

Four-star wide receiver Rico Flores Jr. will announce his commitment on July 3. Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas and UCLA are all under consideration for the skilled pass catcher.

Flores is coming off an impressive junior season where he hauled in 81 passes for nearly 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns. He served as the kickoff returner where he averaged 31 yards per return and brought one kick to the house.

247Sports rates Flores as the No. 13 overall prospect in the state of California and the No. 23 wide receiver in the nation for the 2023 cycle.

Texas is in a position to recruit heavily at the wide receiver position after taking just one prospect in the 2022 class. Flores would be a huge piece to the puzzle for Texas 2023 class and a major recruiting win for Brennan Marion.

California star wide receiver has locked in his official visit to Notre Dame

The Irish get to set the tone

The Irish have kept a very high profile during their 2023 recruiting class, getting off to an extremely hot start and staying atop many national recruiting services top overall class ranks. One of the players Marcus Freeman would love to add is California wide receiver Rico Flores.

The rising senior is already making moves on the recruiting front, as the six-foot-one-inch and 190-pound pass catcher holds over 25 offers from schools like Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama along with Notre Dame. About a month ago, Flores trimmed his list and released a top 5, the Irish still in contention along with the Buckeyes, UCLA, Texas and the Bulldogs.

Today, Flores took one step further in his recruitment, as he announced via  Twitter that he will be officially visiting Notre Dame starting on June 10th. The trip east will conclude on the 12th, giving the Irish staff three days to impress Flores.

It remains to be seen if Flores will continue to trim his list down from the final five but the Irish getting the first impression should be seen as a good development.

Texas 2023 wide receiver will be visiting Notre Dame soon

Get him to South Bend quick!

Yesterday, we found out that California prospect Rico Flores has included Notre Dame with his top group of schools. Today, we are finding out that Texas wide receiver Braylon James will make a visit to South Bend in the near future.

It is unknown when that visit will happen, but according to Reel Goat Sports, James is heading north at some point soon. The confirmation of this report, James himself, who retweeted the post giving legs to this development. Holding an impressive collection of offers which include Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, USC and others, James is a big time player. At six-foot-two-inches and 175-pounds, he’s an electric playmaker that would look great in Blue and Gold.

Notre Dame makes top five for star 2023 wide receiver

How good of a chance does Notre Dame have in this one?

Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class is ranked tops in the country as we enter late February of 2022 but there remains much work to do, specifically on the offensive side of the ball.

Ultimately the quarterback Notre Dame ends up getting in the class will potentially open doors for more offensive recruits to want to follow but as we sit and wait on that to further develop, Notre Dame did get good news on Tuesday as they made the top-five for one of the nation’s best receivers in the 2023 class.

Rico Flores, a 6-1, 190-pound California star narrowed his list of potential schools to just five after receiving offers from nearly 30 programs.  Joining Notre Dame among the finalists were other big name programs Ohio State and GeorgiaTexas and UCLA were the other two finalists for Flores.

Flores hauled in 81 receptions for 1157 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior at Folsom High School.  He gave no indication as to when he’ll make an official announcement on ultimately making a commitment to a program.

Notre Dame in the mix for California 2023 wide receiver

This would be a big time recruiting win

The Irish seem to always have a very good presence in California and it does not seem like that will change with Marcus Freeman now running the program. In the current recruiting cycle, Notre Dame has signed linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka and cornerback Jaden Mickey.

They are once again trying to dip into the talent rich state, this time with wide receiver Rico Flores. Today, Flores dropped his top-10 schools, with the Irish making the cut along with Ohio State, Alabama, LSU, Texas, USC, Georgia and a few others. The six-foot-two-inch and 190-pound receiver is viewed as one of the best in the country and if Freeman can pull this one off, it would be a huge feather in his cap.
