Steelers rumored to be headed to Atlanta for season opener

Arthur Smith could be headed to Atlanta in Week One to take on his old team.

According to WSB Atlanta sports director Zach Klein, the Pittsburgh Steelers will open their season on the road in Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Week One of the 2024 NFL regular season.

This one feels like it was completely planned to be a return to Atlanta for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Smith joined the Steelers staff after being fired by the Falcons after two seasons as their head coach.

The Falcons made a huge splash this offseason when they signed free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a massive contract to try and turn the franchise around. They then shocked us even more when they spent their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft on quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The Steelers also rebuilt their quarterback room by adding Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen. The NFL will release the full regular-season schedule on Wednesday, May 15.

Patriots schedule: Looking at New England’s 2023 opponents

Looking at where the Patriots’ 2023 opponents finished last season.

The road to the postseason could be a long and winding one for the New England Patriots heading into the 2023 season.

One look at the long list of expected playoff contenders on their regular season schedule is enough to drive even the most optimistic fans mad. With 17 games total, the Patriots are slated to face at least nine teams that clinched a playoff berth in 2022.

It’s a huge challenge that’s going to take a herculean effort from both players and coaches to overcome.

Can coach Bill Belichick turn the defense into an impenetrable beast to deal with all of the explosive offenses the Patriots will be facing? Can quarterback Mac Jones grow into his role well enough to get his team over the hump? Will the addition of Bill O’Brien at offensive coordinator make a big enough difference?

There are a lot of questions ahead for the Patriots when tackling this monstrous schedule. Let’s take a look at how their opponents finished last season:

5 takeaways from the Patriots’ 2023 schedule

Takeaways from the Patriots’ brutal 2023 schedule.

The New England Patriots will have their work cut out for them to finish with a winning record, much less make the playoffs in the 2023 season.

A brutal slate of opponents will test the many changes that came with the roster and coaching staff in the offseason. So what initially seemed like two steps forward might feel like two steps back for a Patriots team that has missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons.

With that said, it would be foolish to write the team off before they even step onto the field. The defense was already really good last season, and with the additions they’ve made through the NFL draft, they have the potential to be a top-three unit this time around.

As for the offense, they should be much-improved in that area with Bill O’Brien and Adrian Klemm joining the coaching staff. Time will tell if it’s enough to actually get them over the hump.

Here are five takeaways from the Patriots’ 2023 schedule:

NFL announces opponent and date for Patriots’ international game

The Patriots officially have their opponent and time slotted for their international game in 2023.

Get ready for some Deutschland action with the New England Patriots slated to fly to Germany to take on the Indianapolis Colts in the 2023 season.

The NFL made the news official on Wednesday with the game set for November 12 at Frankfurt Stadium.

It was a demolition show when the Patriots faced the Colts last season at Gillette Stadium. Sam Ehlinger was the quarterback for Indy, and he was sacked nine times and finished the game with a 10.8 quarterback rating. Matthew Judon and Josh Uche were feasting on sack lunches up front, and cornerback Jonathan Jones recorded a pick-six in the game.

Of course, things could be much different this time around with the Colts using the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft on Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson.

The Patriots should be even better on the defensive side of the ball after a strong draft, and their offense could see significant improvements with major coaching changes, including hiring Bill O’Brien as the offensive coordinator.

An early morning showdown in Germany between two improved AFC teams could be the main headline going into this game.

Ahead of schedule release, NFL still developing ticket-refund policy

The NFL will be announcing its 2020 schedule this week but it putting together a refund policy should games be canceled due to the pandemic.

The National Football League is set to release its 2020 regular-season schedule on Thursday night amid the largest pandemic in years, one that is keeping most people in their homes for the near future.

However, the NFL is also taking precautions in case part or all of the upcoming season will have to be canceled in the name of safety.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently sent a memo to all 32 clubs detailing the policy to be put into place.

“All clubs will have in place a policy under which, if a game is cancelled, or is played under conditions that prohibit fans from attending, anyone purchasing a ticket directly from the club (i.e., season tickets, group sales and/or partial season plans) will have the option of either receiving a full refund or applying the amount paid toward a future ticket purchase directly from the club,” Goodell wrote.

According to the Associated Press report, Ticketmaster and SeatGeek will also make full refunds available for all ticket sales but StubHub, however, will do so only where required by state law.

Fans who have purchased tickets and season-ticket holders should be hearing from their respective teams regarding the policy in the next few days.

5 big takeaways from the new CBA

A rundown of major points from the approval of the NFL CBA agreement

Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Collective Bargaining Agreement was approved by NFL players Sunday morning with a vote of 1019 (51.5%) to 959 (48.5%).  and ensures labor peace through at least 2030. A mere 60 votes separated the two sides.

Here are some of the impactful takeaways:

Regular-season Schedule

The regular season will not extend to 17 games immediately — it’s likely not to take effect until at least 2021. The league will drop one of the preseason games (down from four to three) once the 17-game season is enforced. Before the start of the season, there will be a “bye week” following the final preseason game.
