4-star safety Reggie Powers commits to the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up another commitment for the 2024 recruiting class with a pledge from Reggie Powers.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ impressive [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag] just got better, earning a commitment from four-star safety prospect [autotag]Reggie Powers[/autotag].

Powers, who was once committed to the Michigan State Spartans, earned an offer from the Sooners at the end of September and just a few days later decommitted from the Spartans.

The Sooners had to fend off recruiting efforts from the UCLA Bruins in the last month to earn Powers’ pledge, but the relationship built with the Sooners coaching staff. Brent Venables and Brandon Hall have been active in their pursuit of the talented safety prospect out of Ohio.

Powers was in Norman for the Sooners win over UCF this past weekend. Over the last week, a flurry of predictions from every recruiting outlet poured in favoring Oklahoma.

In Powers, the Sooners get a versatile safety prospect who has the speed and athleticism to play deep middle safety and the size and physicality to play in the box. Still just 17 years old (won’t turn 18 until June of 2024), there’s the potential to add to his 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame.

He’s the third safety the Sooners have committed in their 2024 class, joining [autotag]Jaydan Hardy[/autotag] and [autotag]Mykell Patterson-McDonald[/autotag].

Oklahoma Sooners receive two predictions for 2024 4-Star safety

Oklahoma recruiting continues its hot streak, earn crystal ball predictions for 4-Star safety.

The Oklahoma Sooners had an eventful weekend. They picked up a pair of commitments on the defensive side of the ball and then defeated the UCF Knights. The Sooners also received a crystal ball prediction favoring OU in the recruitment of four-star safety Reggie Powers on Friday. Sunday evening, the Sooners picked up two more crystal ball predictions from 247Sports.

Powers is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety from Dayton, Ohio. He was once committed to the Michigan State Spartans. Right now, the Sooners are competing with the [autotag]UCLA Bruins[/autotag] for Powers’ services.

Physically strong, well-built prospect who also has a basketball background. Has been to events and verified size and also put up solid testing numbers which include good agility times at his size. Has good play speed, is aggressive and shows instincts and ability to diagnose plays in run support. Is an excellent box defender. Shows that he can also play in coverage. Ultimately is likely a strong safety or hybrid defender depending on the scheme but is a high-floor prospect who can fit into the framework of multiple defenses and be effective. – Allen Trieu National Recruiting Analyst 247Sports

The two predictions the Sooners received Sunday evening came from national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu and director of football recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Powers was in Norman over the weekend on an unofficial visit and now looks to be trending heavily toward choosing the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners have been active in their pursuit of the four-star safety as they look to add him to an already strong defensive recruiting class in 2024.

There has been some speculation Sooners could go on a run in recruiting to end this month and start November. The commitments they’ve received in the last few days combined with the predictions trending for Oklahoma with Powers certainly support that speculation.

4-Star safety Reggie Powers predicted to land with Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners earned a crystal ball projection in the recruitment of 2024 four-star safety Reggie Powers.

The Oklahoma Sooners are on another roll on the recruiting trail for the 2024 recruiting class. They’ve picked up a pair of commitments over the last couple of days from Michael Boganowski and Devon Jordan.

Now, they look to be trending in a positive direction for 2024 four-star safety Reggie Powers. On Friday evening, Iowa State recruiting insider Nick Osen issued a 247Sports crystal ball prediction favoring the Sooners.

Powers was at one time committed to Michigan State but backed off of that pledge at the end of September. Days before his decommitment, the Oklahoma Sooners offered the talented safety out of Dayton, Ohio.

Powers is an athletic and physical safety that can play in the box or provide help in single or two-high safety looks.

According to 247Sports, he recorded 80 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, 10 pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles.

The Sooners and UCLA are the two teams in heaviest pursuit of Powers. He’ll be in Norman on Saturday for Oklahoma’s game against the UCF Knights for an unofficial visit.

If the Oklahoma Sooners were able to land Reggie Powers, it would give them another really good safety prospect to add to their ranks.

Recent Oklahoma offer decommits from Michigan State

Oklahoma Sooners safety target Reggie Powers III decommits from Michigan State.

As the Sooners look to wrap up their 2024 recruiting class, there’s a new target on their radar in four-star safety [autotag]Reggie Powers[/autotag] III.

Powers, who hails from Dayton, Ohio, received an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners on Sept. 22. On Sept. 26, he decommitted from Michigan State.

“Thank you, MSU staff and fans, for all the love and support,” Powers said via social media. “After much consideration with my family, I have decided to re-open my recruitment. I appreciate you all. Go Green!”

Powers is the No. 36 safety in the 2024 class and the No. 24. player in the state of Ohio.

In addition to the Spartans and the Sooners, he holds notable offers from Ohio State, Louisville, Northwestern, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Duke, Iowa State, Boston College, UCLA, and West Virginia.

The Oklahoma Sooners have a pair of safeties committed for the 2024 class in Jaydan Hardy and Mykell Patterson-McDonald. However, given the rotation at safety we’re seeing in 2023, one can never have too much depth at the position.

Michigan State is working through a coaching search midseason in the aftermath of the Mel Tucker scandal and firing.

Potentially, that’s opened the door for the Oklahoma Sooners to add more talent to an already stacked 2024 recruiting class.

Michigan State football: 2024 DB class appears to be complete

MSU’s DB coach Harlon Barnett and CB coach Jim Salgado did a very good job with MSU’s DB class in 2024:

Michigan State saw some change in their defensive back coaching this offseason, adding Jim Salgado as cornerbacks coach to assist with Harlon Barnett. With that change came a new spark in defensive back recruiting, along with new prospects showing up on the board, and no matter how you look at it, Salgado and Barnett hit a home run this June.

The Spartans were able to secure commitments from 4 defensive backs, while solidifying the commitment of Tennessee 4-star Jaylen Thompson.

Ultimately, it can be said that the defensive backfield recruiting has been outstanding for MSU and the Spartans may be finished with that position group in 2024.

Check out who the five members are, and who could be added as a 6th member:
