Washington unveiled new uniforms for the 2020 season on Thursday after announcing it will go by the “Washington Football Team”.Washington has officially retired the name “Redskins” and will announce a new team name at a later date

‘Washington Football Team’ is the former Redskins’ (temporary) new nickname

The former Washington Redskins are no longer that — they are the Washington Football Team until further notice.

The NFL football team which aligns its name with the nation’s capital has changed its name for the first time since 1933, when the former Boston Braves adopted the name a few years before moving to Washington D.C. in 1937. Not that the name is permanent. As first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former Washington Redskins have changed their name to the Washington Football Team as the organization still tries to figure out what will replace “Redskins” in a permanent basis.

Team owner Daniel Snyder announced a “thorough review” of the former nickname, which has been called by Native American groups for decades based on the obvious and harmful bias, on July 3. Snyder had faced severe pressure from sponsors, including FedEx, who holds the naming rights to the team’s stadium in Landover, Maryland.

Also per Schefter, it looks like the process for changing the name on a permanent basis could take a while.

“While the Washington Football Team uses these uniforms and helmets for the 2020 season, it will be seeking the feedback of players, alumni, fans, sponsors and the community for the new team name it will use at some point in the future, per sources,” Schefter noted.

The Redskins are awash in controversy right now. A recent blockbuster Washington Post report revealed that 15 former female employees experienced harassment during their time with the team, and even as Snyder endeavors to change a culture he should have changed long ago (he’s owned the team since 1999), there are questions as to whether the team followed proper protocol in its most recent hiring practices.

BREAKING: Washington to go by ‘Washington Football Team’ until new name is chosen

The Washington Football team will officially be the new moniker until a name is chosen going forward, doing away with the ‘Redskins’ name.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins will be known as the Washington Football Team going forward, until a new name is chosen.

This announcement does not mean that there won’t be a new name chosen in the future, but it does mean that the team will be officially doing away with the ‘Redskins’ name going forward, though they’ve been using it still since the announcement of a future name change.

While fans still vote for their favorite team names on social media, we will see when an official change is made in the near or distant future. For now, it seems that Redskins is officially a thing of the past.

Bills’ Josh Norman comments on potential groundbreaking story in Washington

Buffalo Bills cornerback Josh Norman comments on potential “groundbreaking story” brewing for Washington Redskins.

Something is brewing down in D.C.

Washington’s football team has been in headlines recently, as the team finally made a long-awaited decision. The team’s nickname is no longer the Redskins.

And while we’re curiously guessing what the team’s new nickname will be, the NFL community has been on pins and needles in the anticipation of… something.

Multiple outlets are curiously reporting a potential “groundbreaking story” is reportedly set to come out that shows damning evidence of some unfortunate behavior that has been taking place over the past decade or so within the organization.

In recent days there’s been firings and a surprise retirement from the team’s longtime play-by-play announcer.

While it is important not to speculate on what information that report holds until the facts out are, that hasn’t stopped folks from doing so a bit. Among those folks are a current Bills defender and recent Washington one, Josh Norman.

Norman said on social media via his Twitter account on Wednesday that can be summed up by saying “what goes around comes around.”

His message read:

Does Norman know something? It looks like we won’t be finding out from him. But in regard to the Bills, Norman would probably be the No.1 guy in Buffalo that could know something. The 32-year-old played for Washington starting n 2016 until just last season.

As of this write up on Thursday, we’re still waiting for this total bombshell to actually occur. Many speculate it’s going to come from the Washington Post. The only recent update comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reported that the Washington football team has hired a defensive attorney already. That’s all we know thus far, but that indicates something, eventually, is going to drop.

Stay tuned.

NFL news: Washington officially retires the ‘Redskins’

The Washington Redskins nickname is no more.

Through a press release on Monday, the Washington Redskins officially became the Washington football team.

It was previously announced that Washington and NFL were going to “look into” changing the team’s nickname. Many consider the move a long-overdue needed change due to the racially-charged name and its offense to Native Americans.

The debate of the nickname goes back decades and current team owner Dan Snyder has kept the name, but recent pressures have worked. Among those pressuring the Redskins were prominent sponsors of the team, such as Nike. The athletic company pulled all of their Washington attire from their online stores. And now here we are. The news on Monday said the nickname is no more.

The team has yet to replace the nickname yet, but that’s going to be the next time on the docket for the league.
