Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Mets (68-80) welcome the Cincinnati Reds (78-72) to Citi Field Sunday. First pitch in the finale of the 3-game series is set for 1:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Reds vs. Mets odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 4-1

The Reds beat the Mets 5-3 to open up the series and then 3-2 Saturday, closing both games respectively as +103 and +101 underdogs. Cincinnati is 6-4 over its last 10 and a strong 42-33 on the road this season.

The Reds sit 3rd in the NL Central and 7 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers. The Mets sit 4th in the NL East and are 38-36 at home this season. They are just 4-6 over their last 10 games.

Reds at Mets projected starters

LHP Brandon Williamson vs. LHP Jose Quintana

Williamson (4-4, 4.47 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in 102 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 6-5 road win in 10 innings vs. the Detroit Tigers Tuesday
  • 2023 road stats: 2-2, 4.70 ERA in 51 2/3 IP over 11 starts

Quintana (2-5, 3.05 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 1.27 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 59 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 4-3 home loss vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday
  • 2023 home stats: 0-2, 2.05 ERA in 22 IP over 4 starts

Reds at Mets picks and predictions

Prediction

Mets 6, Reds 2

Moneyline

BET METS (-135).

Quintana has been strong at home, while the same cannot be said about Williamson on the road, so an edge in pitching should favor the Mets. Cincinnati was in this scenario last season in Detroit, having won 2 and entering the 3rd as an underdog. It lost 8-2. New York is 26-22 straight up as a home favorite this season.

Its offense tallied 7 or more runs in 3 straight games prior to playing Cincinnati and has scored 5 over the last 2. The Mets should be able to come alive against Williamson and win to avoid the sweep. Take METS (-135).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There’s just no value here. The Reds are far too pricey at -175 to play on the spread, and the Mets have to win in this series and haven’t played well against Cincinnati all season long.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 9 (-115).

The Reds have gone Under in 4 of their last 7 games and are 2-4-1 O/U in that stretch. They have scored just 3.5 runs per game over their last 4. Cincinnati is 72-77-1 O/U on the season.

The Mets are 59-80-9 O/U, so it is clear which way has been better for bettors. They are 3-3-1 O/U in their last 7 and have gone 1-6 O/U in Quintana’s last 7 starts. Back UNDER 8.5 (-105).

Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The New York Mets (68-78) welcome the Cincinnati Reds (76-72) to Citi Field to open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Reds vs. Mets odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Reds lead 2-1

The Reds failed to complete a 3-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers as they suffered an 8-2 loss Thursday as +111 underdogs. Cincinnati is 3-4 over last 7 games, a solid 40-33 on the road this season and is in a 3-way tie for the final NL Wild Card with the San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Mets opened the week by winning 3 of 4 games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, beating them 11-1 Thursday as -110 favorites. They are 38-34 at home this season but are 28 games back in the NL East and 7 games back in the NL Wild Card race.

Reds at Mets projected starters

RHP Hunter Greene vs. LHP David Peterson

Greene (4-6, 4.43 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.43 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9 and 12.1 K/9 through 91 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 4 BB, 9 K in 7-1 home win vs. St. Louis Cardinals Sunday
  • 2023 away stats: 3-2, 3.57 ERA in 58 IP over 11 starts

Peterson (3-8, 5.34 ERA) makes his 19th start and 25th appearance. He has a 1.60 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9 and 9.8 K/9 through 94 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 1 BB, 8 K in 8-4 road loss vs. Minnesota Twins Saturday
  • 2023 home stats: 2-2, 3.18 ERA in 45 1/3 IP over 8 starts and 4 relief appearances

Reds at Mets odds

Provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:42 a.m. ET.

  • Moneyline (ML): Reds -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Mets -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Reds -1.5 (+165) | Mets +1.5 (-200)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Reds at Mets picks and predictions

Prediction

Reds 5, Mets 4

Moneyline

BET REDS (-105).

The Reds should have the pitching advantage as Greene is one of the best young pitchers in the league. He has allowed 0 earned runs through his last 11 1/3 innings across 2 starts.  The Reds sit 7th in the MLB in road win percentage (40-33). New York is also the bottom half in the league in win percentage after a victory at 32-25.

Cincinnati has an NL Wild Card spot on the line and should know what’s at stake here while New York is all but out of playoff contention. Couple the trends in this situation with Greene’s pitching and back REDS (-105).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

There’s no value here. The Mets are too expensive as a home underdog, and the Reds are coming off a bad loss in which they scored just 2 runs. Avoid this play.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 9 (-105).

The Reds went Over in their last game and have gone Over in 5 of their last 8 outings.

New York has scored 7 or more runs in 3 straight games and tallied 11 on Thursday. It has the bats to help this total soar. It has gone Over in 4 of its last 6 and in 3 straight.

Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Cincinnati Reds (44-64) and New York Mets (71-39) meet for the 2nd game of a 3-game series at Citi Field Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Reds vs. Mets odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Mets lead 3-1

The Reds lost Monday’s series opener 5-1 which continued a stretch of shaky offensive performances on the road. Cincinnati has averaged just 2.67 runs per game over its last 9 road games while batting .209/.293/.296 (.590 OPS).

The Mets have won 4 straight games and are 13-2 over their last 15. New York has cranked out an .884 OPS along that 15-game span.

Reds at Mets projected starters

LHP Mike Minor vs. RHP Carlos Carrasco

Minor (1-8, 6.19 ERA) is tabbed for his 12th start of the season. He has a 1.57 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9 and 8.1 K/9 through 56 2/3 IP.

  • Has allowed 10 earned runs on 17 hits and 10 walks across 14 2/3 innings since the All-Star break. Four of the 17 hits have been of the “un-fieldable-over-the-wall” variety.
  • Has struggled mightily in his second (1.125 OPS allowed) and third time around the order (1.193).

Carrasco (12-4, 3.82 ERA) has logged a 1.28 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 through 117 2/3 IP over 21 starts.

  • Owns a 3.41 ERA across 68 2/3 IP at Citi Field in 2022.
  • Facing a Reds offense that has been more dangerous against left-handers (.715 OPS) than right-handers (.675).

Analyzing Monday’s Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Cincinnati Reds (44-63) and New York Mets (70-39) lift the lid on a 3-game series at Citi Field Monday. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Reds vs. Mets odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Mets lead 2-1

The Reds are continuing a wonky road trip that has already included stops at the Miami Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers and which will have the club heading to Dyersville, Iowa, for a “home game” against the Chicago Cubs at Field of Dreams after Cincy and New York play 3 from Monday to Wednesday.

Reds at Mets projected starters

RHP Justin Dunn vs. RHP Chris Bassitt

Dunn is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Louisville for this start, his first of the season in MLB.

  • Combined 6.75 ERA with a 1.82 WHIP (including 17 BB) through 28 IP between Class-A Dayton (1 start) and Triple-A Louisville (7 starts) this season after being activated in June following recovery from shoulder surgery.
  • Only pitched beyond the 4th inning in 2 of those starts.
  • Career 3.94 ERA across 25 starts for the Seattle Mariners from 2019-2021.

Bassitt (8-7, 3.61 ERA) is making his 21st start of the season. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 through 122 IP.

  • Coming off 7-scoreless innings Wednesday at the Washington Nationals in his last start.
  • Owns a 2.96 ERA over his last 7 starts.
  • Owns a 2.14 ERA and 0.77 WHIP over his last 5 starts at Citi Field. For the season, has logged a 4.24 ERA on the road and a 3.06 figure at home.

Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Cincinnati Reds (54-49) open a three-game series against the New York Mets (54-47) Friday with a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Citi Field. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Reds vs. Mets odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Sonny Gray is the projected starting pitcher for the Reds. He is 2-6 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 70 IP over 14 starts.

Gray allowed more than 3 ER just once in his first 12 starts but has surrendered 13 ER in just 8 IP across his last two outings. He has posted a 3.33 ERA with just 2 homers allowed through 27 IP in five road starts this year.

RHP Carlos Carrasco is the projected starting pitcher for the Mets. He will be making his first start of the season after tearing a hamstring in March.

In 2020 Carrasco was 3-4 with a 2.91 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 68  IP over 12 starts.

He had a rough rehab start July 20th allowing 5 ER in 1 2/3 IP with 3 BB and no strikeouts but rebounded with 6 K in 3 scoreless innings in his last outing.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Reds +1.5 (-175) | Mets -1.5 (+145)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Reds 6, Mets 4

Money line (ML)

The Cincinnati offense, led by Joey Votto and his six-game home run streak, has been pretty hot with five-plus runs in each of their last seven games. Carrasco has faced a total of just 29 batters in his three rehab appearances, and can’t be expected to work deep into the game.

Gray has been shaky in his last two starts but had a stellar 3.19 ERA prior to those two outings. Look for him to bounce back and take the REDS (+115).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There doesn’t appear to be much value in the lines listed above. The Mets will likely turn to their ‘pen pretty early in the contest and the Cincinnati offense could do some damage in the middle innings. Flip the run line to REDS -1.5 (+185).

Over/Under (O/U)

Carrasco is an excellent pitcher but it’s not really clear what the Mets will get out of him in his first start of the year other than an abbreviated outing. The Reds’ offense has been rolling and should put up their fair share of runs.

Gray should return to form soon but can’t be counted on to completely shut down a New York offense that is back to full strength. A small bet on OVER 8 (-115) makes sense here.
