Report: Four-star RB Rueben Owens to visit Texas on back-to-back weekends

Texas may have both Arch Manning and Rueben Owens on campus at the same time.

One of Texas’ biggest targets in the class of 2023 is set to visit campus on back-to-back weekends during spring practice.

On3Sports’ Gerry Hamilton reports four-star running back Rueben Owens will check out the program over the last weekend of March and the first weekend of April.

Owens is a former Texas commit, but the Longhorns are still very much in the thick of his recruitment. He has expressed interest in playing with five-star quarterback Arch Manning, who is also expected on campus the final weekend of March.

The El Campo product was named 2021 MaxPreps National Junior of the year after rushing for close to 3,000 yards and scoring 46 total touchdowns. One of the most dominant seasons from a running back in recent Texas High School Football memory.

Texas is looking to build some early momentum in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

TCU DE transfer Ochaun Mathis to visit Texas on Saturday

Mathis is one of the best players still available in the transfer portal.

Texas will host former TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis for an unofficial visit this weekend.

Mathis would fill a major need for a Texas defensive line that struggled to create much pressure a year ago. He totaled 12.5 sacks in 38 career games at TCU and received All-Big 12 honors in 2020 and 2021.

Between Gary Patterson joining Texas’ staff and Mathis growing up in the central Texas area, the Longhorns have been the presumed favorite to land him for quite some time now. Texas was joined by USC, Ole Miss, Penn State and Nebraska in Mathis’ final five schools.

Texas has already signed an impressive group of transfers this offseason, headlined by former Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers and Wyoming wideout Isaiah Neyor. Adding Mathis to the list would go a long way towards a turn-around 2022 season.

Four-star S Mikal Harrison-Pilot set to visit Texas on Friday

Texas will host one of the state’s best defensive backs this Friday.

The 2023 recruiting cycle is heating up. Texas hosted a large group of recruits for their junior day event last weekend and will have more talented prospects visit again this week.

Four-star safety Mikal Harrison-Pilot announced via Twitter he will make the trip to Texas on Friday.

247Sports composite ranks Harrison-Pilot as the No. 18 prospect in Texas and No. 102 overall. He has 46 total offers from the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Baylor and many others.

Harrison-Pilot is one of the most versatile athletes in the 2023 recruiting class. He was named first-team all-district in high school while playing quarterback, wide receiver and safety. He has the skillset to potentially play both sides of the ball at the next level.

The Temple product will check out a couple of other Big 12 schools this weekend. He will see Sonny Dykes at TCU Saturday, then he will stop in Waco to visit Baylor.
