Colin Cowherd says Jags will be fun to watch but projects disappointing record

Colin Cowherd predicts a 6-11 finish for the Jags this upcoming season (at least, for now).

It’s a bit difficult to gauge where the expectations should be for Jacksonville heading into the 2021 season. Coming off a 1-15 finish with one of the most depleted rosters in football, the Jaguars made a lot of progress this offseason and upgraded at positions all over the field. But with a new front office, new head coach, and new starting quarterback, expecting the team to take a major leap forward into playoff contention seems a bit ambitious.

Colin Cowherd, host of “The Herd,” is among the crowd that is tempering their expectations for Jacksonville in Year 1 under the new regime. He projects an improvement on the record from last season, but to just 6-11.

“Jacksonville’s fun to watch, a little bit of a mess defensively,” Cowherd said.

He only thinks one team in the AFC South will be competitive for a playoff spot: the Indianapolis Colts, who he has going 11-6. He predicts a drop-off to 8-9 for the Tennessee Titans and a disappointing 4-13 finish for the Houston Texans, who have an uncertain situation at the most important position on the field.

Cowherd’s prediction for the Jags is definitely a safe one. Considering the offense was moderately productive last season, the addition of Trevor Lawrence (as well as free agent receiver Marvin Jones Jr.) should make the unit at least sufficient.

The real concerns lie on defense, where the team was abysmal in 2020. It invested a lot of money in the unit this offseason, signing cornerback Shaquill Griffin, safety Rayshawn Jenkins and defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris. But it’s unclear if that will be enough for the Jags to be competitive against top teams this year.

Jags fans would like to see a better finish than six wins in 2021, but at the same time, if the team improves on its record while showing positive on-field strides and progress in Lawrence’s development, that would at least be a step in the right direction.

College Football News predicts Texas’ 2021 season

They expect Texas to start the season 4-0 before dropping two straight.

Would Texas fans be content with three losses in 2021?

There’s a new coaching staff in town, which typically brings growing pains throughout the first year. Although three losses is certainly not living up to the high Texas expectations, it could potentially be enough to secure a spot in the Big 12 Championship game. Reaching the Big 12 title game in Steve Sarkisian’s first year is certainly something to be proud of.

College Football News recently predicted how Texas’ 2021 college football season will play out. The Longhorns finished with a 9-3 overall record, which had them tied with Iowa State for the No. 2 spot in the Big 12. Unfortunately, since CFN predicted Iowa State to defeat Texas during the regular season, Matt Campbell’s squad owned the tiebreaker and advanced to the Big 12 title game.

However, that includes a loss to TCU at the beginning of October. If Texas is able to escape Fort Worth with a win, and assuming they defeat the lesser quality opponents that they’re supposed to, the Longhorns could find their way to the Big 12 title game against Oklahoma.

Take a look at how CFN predicts Texas’ 2021 college football season to play out.

Experts predict Colts’ record in 2021

Experts are bullish on the Colts in 2021.

The 2021 regular-season schedule was released earlier this week, which means the experts around the league will be doing their best to predict the record of each team in January.

Of course, so much is subject to change between now and even the start of the season. But it’s still a fun exercise to see how the games might shape up for the Colts.

We went through our own game-by-game predictions for the Colts in 2021 while highlighting the games we’re most excited for during the upcoming campaign.

Now, it’s time to take a look at what the experts think is in store for Indy:

Final 2020 Miami Dolphins schedule and record prediction

Final 2020 Miami Dolphins schedule and record prediction

What will the Miami Dolphins’ 2020 season look like? The Dolphins’ roster is drastically different than the last one that took the field in Foxborough against the New England Patriots for a successful final contest of 2019. Will it yield results on the field? This season will not be a true “evaluation” year as much as what 2019 was. But it will serve as a critical year of growth for Miami in their bid to transition from a rebuilding underdog into a young contender.

Here is our final forecast for the Miami Dolphins’ 2020 season!

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Week 1: @ New England Patriots

The Dolphins have the advantage of familiarity with the Patriots’ coaching staff thanks to Brian Flores’ time in New England. But the Dolphins have a ton of new pieces to work with and have not had a lot of time to gel, especially up front on the offensive line against Bill Belichick’s pressure looks.

Prediction: Patriots – 20, Dolphins – 17 (0-1)

Adam Rank predicts Colts go 10-6, win AFC South

Adam Rank is bullish on the Colts.

As the offseason truly enters the dead period with the virtual workout programs coming to an end this week, the predictions for the Indianapolis Colts and the rest of the league will be flying around.

While we made the early prediction that the Colts would finish the season 10-6, NFL.com’s Adam Rank shares the same tune. He sees a 10-win season with a divisional title and the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

He made a full video breakdown going over each win and loss from the regular season. It certainly included some surprises.

Rank has the Colts starting the season 3-0 against the Jaguars, Vikings and Jets but suffering their first loss against the Bears in Week 4. In his prediction, the Colts start the season 5-1 entering the bye week.

However, Indy would come out of the bye week losing to the Lions but bouncing back and winning against the Ravens in Week 9—an upset in its truest form.

Rank has the Colts splitting the season series with the Titans and Texans while sweeping both games against the Jaguars. He also predicts road losses against the Raiders and Steelers late in the season.

Predicting the Ravens’ 2020 record: Big and bold edition

With the schedule out and most teams finalizing their rosters, we can better predict what the Baltimore Ravens’ final record will be.

The NFL released the full 2020 schedule and with it, the schedule for the Baltimore Ravens. Though we’ve known which opponents the Ravens would face this season, the order in which they came and how many primetime games Baltimore would be featured in will have a dramatic impact on what their final record could be.

With most teams putting the final touches on their 90-man rosters, we have a much better idea of the talent levels for each of the Ravens’ 2020 opponents. With that in mind, the writers here at Ravens Wire each threw out their prediction for the season, with some of us going pretty bold.

Matthew Stevens – 12-4

The already strong teams on Baltimore’s schedule didn’t really get any weaker and the bad teams will take time to improve. What looks to be the easiest schedule in the NFL might not prove to be that by the time the season finishes but the Ravens have some pretty easy cakewalks this year as long as they show up hungry and ready to play every week. I already tossed out my game-by-game final score predictions and have Baltimore once again destroying a bunch of teams en route to a solid 12-4 record.

But at this point, the regular season isn’t really the important part. They’ll be judged solely by how they perform in the postseason. Baltimore is talented enough to practically guarantee a playoff spot barring some serious misfortunes. But they’ll need to prove they can step up in the postseason, something they haven’t done the last two years.

It doesn’t matter if they go 16-0 or 10-6 this season, if they’re one-and-done in the playoffs, fans will be livid.

Neil Dutton – 14-2

There are a couple of games on the docket where, with a critical eye, you could see Baltimore dropping. Away at the Philadelphia Eagles is never easy, the New England Patriots still own a talented defense and the Tennessee Titans may have permanently scarred the Ravens after their playoff win over them. But I have faith in this Baltimore team to overcome those obstacles. The two games I have them actually losing are to the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, as well as the Thanksgiving clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But even that is assuming Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is healthy and playing at a competent level.

A seven-game win streak between Week 4 and Week 12 will break the back of this schedule and put the Ravens in contention for the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

Kevin Oestreicher – 15-1

It’s pretty hard to imagine a more dominant team than the one the Ravens had in 2019, but I believe that they are well positioned for an even better year in 2020. The team faces the easiest strength-of-schedule in the entire NFL based on 2019 records. Plus Baltimore revamped the defensive line and added more weapons for quarterback Lamar Jackson, making this team better on paper than it was last year.

I believe Baltimore’s only loss comes in Week 1 to the Cleveland Browns, but then a 15-game win streak put the Ravens right where they left off last year: in prime position to make a Super Bowl run.

Alex Bente – 11-5

Consider me a tad cautions here, but the Ravens seem to have a history of falling short when expectations shoot through the roof. For the latest example, look no further than the January playoff debacle against the Titans.

That said, they’ve also had a tendency to go above and beyond when counted down and out. And this Ravens team has done that in spades under Lamar Jackson, proving doubters wrong time and again as the young quarterback and his team have progressed in their early relationship. Maybe times have truly changed.

Do I see a repeat of the lighting they captured in a bottle last season? No. But on paper, they are still the best team in the division (by a wider margin now), and that alone gives them the edge to take the title again. But the Ravens have a target on their backs, no question, and as a result, they may drop an unsuspecting game or two in their 2020 campaign.

Bleacher Report predicts 10 wins for Colts in 2020

Will the Colts come out on top in 2020?

As the month of May gets underway and we venture into unprecedented territory this offseason, no one truly knows how the 2020 season will play out. But predictions for the Indianapolis Colts and their prospects in the upcoming campaign are still being made.

[lawrence-related id=44437]

While we made our own way-too-early predictions for Indy, Bleacher Report did so as well. Their early predictions have the Colts coming out on top of the AFC South with a 10-6 record.

After a promising first half of the 2019 season turned into a second-half swoon, the Indianapolis Colts made major changes in the offseason.

The Colts signed veteran quarterback Philip Rivers to supplant Jacoby Brissett under center. They dealt a first-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. And they added a pair of weapons for Rivers early in the 2020 draft in wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and running back Jonathan Taylor.

The Colts’ middle-of-the-pack schedule offers at least one break, as their biggest out-of-division games against the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers are both at home. But the matchups that determine how much noise they’ll make in the AFC South—four games against the Texans and Tennessee Titans—won’t begin until Week 10.

In a division this tightly packed, those late games are going to be pivotal.

Prediction: 10-6

The Colts can get off to a hot start to begin the regular season, assuming it starts on time. Their first six games before the Week 7 are all extremely winnable as only one team in that span had a winning record during the 2019 season.

There is a strong possibility the Colts are looking at a 4-2 record at worst heading into their bye week.

However, it will be a tough test after that. Hosting the Ravens and Packers during the second half won’t be easy. Then they have a stretch of six games from Weeks 10–15 that include four matchups against the Titans and Texans. That span of games will likely determine the season.

It’s certainly very early to make concrete predictions, but the Colts certainly have a chance to make some noise and even return to the playoffs in 2020.
