Twitter reactions: Michigan football defeats Indiana

Great win for Michigan! #GoBlue

Michigan football remained unbeaten after defeating the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, 31-10.

The game was a story of two halves. Michigan went down for a quick score on the first drive of the game to go up 7-0. But the Wolverines went into halftime tied at 10 with the Hoosiers.

The second half was all Michigan. The Wolverines outgained the Hoosiers 263-29 during the last two quarters. That was largely because of the pressure Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak felt. Michigan had constant pressure, and the maize and blue finished with seven sacks and several more knock downs.

J.J. McCarthy had 304 yards and three touchdowns for Michigan. This was his first 300-yard passing game as a Michigan Wolverine. He also threw his first interception of the season, but the sophomore rebounded nicely.

Here are the best Twitter reactions from Michigan defeating Indiana on Saturday.

Pat Dooley’s Six Pack: Quick look at how Florida prevailed over Missouri

Pat Dooley looks at how Florida finally scored its first SEC win under Billy Napier.

Let’s face it — this is your Florida football team for 2022.

You never know what you are going to get from your quarterback.

Every game against an FBS team is going to come down to the fourth quarter.

The same coach who was aggressive at Tennessee went conservative against Missouri.

It is what it is, but Florida finally got [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] his first SEC win on Saturday despite a defense that made three huge plays and also looked like last year’s third-and-Grantham.

It’s not good for the nerves, but it was a win that Florida needed 24-17 over Missouri.

Let’s look at the Dooley Six-Pack and try to explain it.

Social Media Reacts to Nebraska’s win at Rutgers

The Cornhuskers win back-to-back conference games for the first time since 2018.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers won their second Big Ten game of the year after defeating Rutgers on Friday night 14-13 in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Cornhuskers improved their record to 3-2 (2-1) on the season with the victory. The win is the first conference-winning streak the Cornhuskers have had since 2018. It was also Nebraska’s first Big Ten road win since winning at Rutgers in 2020.

Interim Defensive Coordinator Bill Busch continues to work wonders with the Husker’s defense. The Blackshirts were able to force three turnovers and only gave up 348 total yards. They weren’t flawless and did allow several big plays in the passing game, but the unit has come a long way from where they were just a few weeks ago against Oklahoma.

It was a tough night all around for the Nebraska offense, which was only able to amass 304 yards of total offense. Casey Thompson had the roughest night of all, going 23 for 36 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. In true Thompson fashion, though, he made a couple of big throws late that helped the Cornhuskers take the lead in the fourth quarter. The offensive line didn’t help by allowing Rutgers to put Thompson under heavy pressure the entire night.

The running game did not have much luck against the Scarlet Knight’s defense either. Anthony Grant had 47 yards on 19 carries for an average of 2.4 yards per carry. Grant had been averaging 120 yards per game and 5.3 yards per carry heading into Friday.

Trey Palmer scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Huskers the lead. The transfer pass catcher had four catches for 64 yards and one touchdown. For the season, he has 40 receptions for 544 yards and three touchdowns. Palmer remains on pace to shatter Nebraska’s single-season records for catches and yards.

With the win, Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph improves his records to 2-1 on the year. Nebraska now prepares for another road night game against a Big Ten East opponent as the Huskers head to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers.

Below is a collection of social media reactions to Nebraska’s win against Rutgers on Friday night.

5 things to watch for in Florida’s Week 6 matchup with Missouri

Florida is still looking for its first conference win of the year. Will it come against Missouri on Saturday?

In 2021, Florida’s overtime loss to Missouri signaled the end of Dan Mullen’s tenure as the head coach of the football program. Billy Napier is hoping for better results in his first go against the Tigers and to claim his first SEC win.

After falling to Kentucky and Tennessee, Florida needs to win out to even have a shot at the SEC East title. Beating Eastern Washington wasn’t enough to convince the rest of the college football world that the Gators are capable of making such a run, but a convincing win over a Missouri team that just tested Georgia might earn the team some love.

UF enters the weekend as an 11.5-point favorite. The offense has been hot and Napier’s adjustments to the defense seem to be working slowly but surely. This will be a good test for the defensive unit as Missouri’s offense lacks a superstar presence compared to the success it saw with Tyler Badie at running back last year.

If Florida can cover the spread and then some, the Gators could end up back in the top 25. Here’s what to watch for when Florida takes on Missouri on Saturday.

Raptors at Rockets: Friday’s stream, lineups, injury reports and broadcast info

In a showdown of two promising second-year prospects from a loaded 2021 NBA draft class, Scottie Barnes and the Raptors visit Jalen Green and the Rockets on Friday night.

After a dominant showing in Sunday’s preseason opener versus San Antonio, the young Houston Rockets will face a far more talented opponent in Friday’s home exhibition versus the Toronto Raptors.

The rebuilding Spurs are projected to finish with one of the NBA’s worst records, whereas the Raptors — already off to a 2-0 start in the 2022-23 preseason — are a perennial playoff team and contender in the Eastern Conference. Thus, it should be a much greater challenge for Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and the young Rockets.

For Green in particular, it’s a showdown with fellow 2021 first-round draft pick Scottie Barnes. While both Barnes and Green were members of the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team for the 2021-22 season, Barnes beat out Green and their peers for Rookie of the Year honors.

Unfortunately for Green, he won’t have rookie sidekick Jabari Smith Jr. playing next to him after suffering a left ankle sprain in practice. The Rockets said his absence is “more precautionary.”

Scroll on for a look at broadcast information, projected lineups, and known injuries. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Toyota Center.

Oct. 6 Rockets practice interviews: John Lucas, Jae’Sean Tate, Garrison Mathews

John Lucas, Jae’Sean Tate, and Garrison Mathews met with #Rockets media members after Thursday’s practice, with discussion topics including Jabari Smith Jr.’s left ankle sprain.

The Rockets practiced on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Toyota Center as they gear up for Friday’s home preseason game versus Toronto. Houston (1-0) has yet to lose in 2022-23 exhibition play after a dominating performance in Sunday’s preseason opener against San Antonio.

Assistant coach John Lucas is leading the young team for the time being, since head coach Stephen Silas remains out due to a stint in the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Lucas said Thursday that the team is hopeful of having Silas return by Friday.

In worse news, top rookie Jabari Smith Jr. will miss Friday’s game due to a left ankle sprain, which he suffered late in practice the previous day. Lucas elaborated on Smith’s situation in his latest interview.

After Thursday’s practice at Toyota Center, the Rockets made Lucas, forward Jae’Sean Tate, and guard Garrison Mathews available to the media for interviews. Courtesy of the YouTube channel of Jackson Gatlin, host of “Locked on Rockets,” here’s a look at their complete interviews and how they responded to questions from reporters.

Friday’s tipoff between the Rockets and Raptors (2-0) is at 7:00 p.m. Central, and the game will be aired on AT&T SportsNet Southwest.

Michigan vs. Indiana: Three keys to a Michigan football victory

Michigan should have a favorable matchup here. #GoBlue

Michigan football looks to remain unbeaten on Saturday when it travels to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the 3-2 Hoosiers.

The Hoosiers have dropped back-to-back games after starting the season 3-0. Indiana lost to Cincinnati and Nebraska by a combined score of 80-45.

The maize and blue is coming off of a big road win last week beating Iowa in Iowa City. The Wolverines won 27-14 and the run attack beat a top ranked Iowa run defense. Michigan was able to generate 172 yards on the ground against the Hawkeyes.

The Wolverines lead the all-time series against Indiana, 60-10. Michigan beat the Hoosiers last year in Ann Arbor, 29-17. The maize and blue have won the last 25 out of 26 games against Indiana — the Hoosiers won back in 2020.

Michigan has competed quite well at Memorial Stadium, where Indiana plays, the Wolverines have an all-time record of 19-2 when playing the Hoosiers in their own stadium.

Here are our three keys for Michigan to keep the train rolling against the Hoosiers.

Florida releases Week 6 depth chart, Trey Dean returns from injury

The Florida Gators have released their depth chart for their Week 6 game against the Missouri Tigers, with multiple players showing improvement with their injury status.

The Florida Gators have released their depth chart for their Week 6 game against the Missouri Tigers.

Notable changes from last week include the return of safety [autotag]Trey Dean[/autotag] III from his lower-body injury and quarterback [autotag]Jack Miller[/autotag]’s upgrade from out to questionable. Dean is listed as a starter and Miller, according to On3’s Nick de la Torre, was a limited participant in practice for the first time this season.

Miller’s inaction was due to a thumb injury he suffered in the preseason. Because of his absence, the backup quarterback position has been up in the air, with [autotag]Anthony Richardson[/autotag] being the team’s unquestioned starter.

Last week, redshirt freshman quarterback Jalen Kitna was thrown into the game for a few plays after Richardson came out of the game to get his ankle looked at. After showing promise with the starter sidelined for a few plays, Kitna was given the nod to play most of the second half, after the Gators’ victory was secured. He went 8 of 12 with 152 passing yards and a beautiful 62-yard TD throw to freshman wide receiver [autotag]Caleb Douglas[/autotag].

Notably, [autotag]Ventrell Miller[/autotag] is listed as the starting linebacker and not on the injury report. Miller has been dealing with an injury all season, with ESPN’s broadcasters saying the injury was a fractured bone in his foot. This is a good sign for the Gators, as Miller’s presence is vital to the success of the defense.

The Gators will take on the Missouri Tigers in their annual homecoming game on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon EDT. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Nets head coach Steve Nash announces Kyrie Irving welcomed a newborn

Nets coach Steve Nash announced that all-star guard Kyrie Irving has a newborn child.

This week has been a big week for the Brooklyn Nets. Earlier this week the  preseason began ahead of a highly anticipated campaign, and news has broken that star guard Kyrie Irving has welcomed a newborn child.

According to basketball insider, Alex Schiffer of The Athletic, head coach Steve Nash announced that Irving and his wife had a baby.

Irving had a pretty great game earlier this week in the team’s preseason opener, he also praised newly acquired forward Royce O’Neale and the intangibles that he brings to the hardcourt.

It is unclear if Irving will be playing on Thursday night.

Irving had quite a long off-season as he failed to reach a contract extension with the Nets team at the beginning of the summer. Following the contract failure, there were rumors for a couple of weeks that Irving wanted to be shipped away from Brooklyn.

The ball-handling guard will likely be back in the lineup soon.
