10 Eagles players who could have bigger roles in 2023

We’re looking at 10 players who could have bigger roles for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023

The Eagles are going to look a lot different when the team reconvenes at the NovaCare Complex for the 2023 off-season program.

Philadelphia has 18 pending free agents and 9 key contributors on defense that could move on for heftier paydays when the new league year starts on March 15.

Making matters even more urgent, the franchise will work to sign All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurt to a hefty contract extension, ensuring that multiple free agents are unlikely to return.

With the offseason now underway, we’re looking at 10 Eagles who could have bigger roles next season.

Nets’ Jacque Vaughn says team’s effort has to be ‘unconditional’

Jacque Vaughn says that he needs effort from every player regardless of the minutes played or shots taken.

Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn, fresh off a contract extension, has to address an important issue with his team: effort. There have been various times throughout this season where his players have either given little to not effort or just weren’t able to get anything soon enough and appeared to give up.

In Friday’s 131-87 demolition at the hands of the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn looked out of it from the opening tip. Right away, the Bulls got off to a fast start by scoring the game’s first 11 points and it took the Nets nearly four minutes to score a basket. This contest was the definition of lopsided in every conceivable way.

Brooklyn shot 37% from the field compared to Chicago’s 56.8%, Chicago out-rebounded Brooklyn 57-31, and to cap things off, the Bulls out-scored the Nets in the paint 62-22. In a game in which Chicago’s biggest lead was 50 points, it looked like the Nets never gave an ounce of effort after that poor start to the game. Vaughn said after the game that the effort has to come from which player regardless of the circumstances:

“I’m looking forward to how we respond. But, it’s going to be a test of our collective unit, of doing everything you possibly can, every single day. Off days, recovery days, in order to give your all to your team. And, it’s got to be unconditional too. It’s not, if I play this amount of minutes, if I get this amount of shots. You have to be an unconditional teammate at this time of year. Because teams are playing for position, teams are playing to get into the playoffs. And, so you cannot have nights like this, where we play this bad.”

Auburn gymnastics posts 197.550 in rivalry win over Georgia

Suni Lee wins the all-around title as Auburn defeats Georgia for the third straight season.

Several starters returned to their usual positions on Friday night in No. 7 Auburn gymnastics’ meet with rival Georgia, who entered the meet as the No. 16 team in the nation.

A strong start by the Tigers on vault and a great finish on floor allowed them to cruise to a strong victory defeating the rival Gymdogs by over a full point, 197.550-196.075.

Auburn kicked off Friday’s meet by scoring 49.450 on vault. [autotag]Derrian Gobourne[/autotag] and [autotag]Sara Hubbard[/autotag] took home the events’ high scores with 9.900. Auburn’s outstanding opening act is a product of a hard week of practice following a short week.

“It is what we set out to do. Our whole week, that is what we have been focusing on, even starting strong in the gym,” [autotag]Olivia Hollingsworth[/autotag] said following Friday’s meet. “It meant a lot to us to achieve that goal that we were working for this week.”

Auburn mirrored their 49.450 vault score on floor. Three athletes reached a 9.90 score or higher, led by Gobourne’s 9.950.

Auburn reached a 197 score for the seventh time in eight meets on Friday, which led Gobourne to reflect on just how far the program has come in her five years on the Plains.

“A few years back, this would be a top score for us. We would be jumping up and down,” Gobourne said Friday. “Just being able to look at the (197.550) score and be like ‘alright, this is an OK night,’ it is inspiring honestly and I am so proud of this team. I’m so grateful and I can not wait to see what it looks like when we put it all together.”

Auburn hits the road for their final SEC meet of the season next Friday when they face No. 12 Kentucky in Lexington. Check out Friday’s results below.

News: Elliott’s future written in Cowboys past? New brain processing test for QBs?

Renewed looks at Byron Jones and OBJ, a Michael Irvin development, and a test that measures brain processing could be the new Wonderlic. | From @ToddBrock24f7

What happens between the Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott will be one of the offseason’s biggest questions, but the team may have already answered it- many times over the years with other superstar running backs. We’ll look at that, plus why veterans like Odell Beckham Jr. and Byron Jones could be getting another look in Dallas.

Meanwhile, a new development in Michael Irvin’s $100 million lawsuit as a federal judge turns up the heat on the Marriott chain, Jason Witten hands out an award and talks about the one Dak Prescott just got, the Cowboys finalize their 2023 coaching staff, and the Wolf Hunter’s cousin gets his pro football break within howling distance of his star relative. All that, plus a new test that measures brain processing speed could be the next-gen Wonderlic for NFL teams trying to forecast quarterback success. News and Notes, coming right up…

Nets’ Seth Curry says loss to Bulls wasn’t because of ‘lack of will’

Seth Curry says Friday’s devastating loss to the Chicago Bulls wasn’t because of a lack of effort, but because of the team still building chemistry.

Brooklyn Nets guard Seth Curry has been one of the more dependable players for the Nets ever since he arrived in the Ben Simmons trade. He has had some big scoring/shooting games for Brooklyn when called upon and he brought some of that explosiveness on Friday, but it just wasn’t the Nets’ night.

In Friday’s 131-87 beatdown at the hands of the Chicago Bulls, Curry had arguably the best performance on the Nets as he had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field along with three assists. However, he, like the rest of his team, had a negative score in the classic plus/minus stat because of how lopsided this game was.

Curry was essentially the only player who had anything going as even though guard Cam Thomas had 22 points, it came on 6-of-15 shooting from the field. For those who watched the game from beginning to end, it looked like the Nets never made it out of the locker room to actually play the game. Curry explained after the embarrassing loss that it wasn’t for lack of effort:

“I don’t think it’s a lack of a will. I mean, we played hard, we gave a lot of effort, tried to do the right things. We got to figure out each other, get to know each other, and get better every single day. We got to work together to create offense as a team. And, I mean, it’s kind of got a whole new group in this locker room. So, we’re figuring out as we go. A lot of different roles, roles have changed over the past couple of weeks. So, it’s just part of the situation we’re all in this locker room. We got to do it together to get out of it.”

NBA Twitter reacts to Klay Thompson’s 42-point performance in Warriors’ win vs. Rockets

On the way to a fiery 42-point performance in a shorthanded win for the Warriors, Klay Thompson drilled 12 triples over the Rockets on Friday night.

With Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins out in the second leg of a back-to-back against the Houston Rockets, the Klay Thompson show took over on Friday night.

The veteran sharpshooting guard fueled a much-needed shorthanded win for the Warriors behind a fiery performance from beyond the arc. During the Warriors’ 116-101 win over the Rockets, Thompson buried a red-hot 12 triples from long distance.

While torching the Rockets from deep, Thompson notched a game-high 42 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds and an assist in 36 minutes. Friday’s outburst marked the fourth time this season Thompson has recorded 40 or more points.

As the Warriors cruised to a win over the Rockets, Donte DiVincenzo added 15 points with five made triples after registering a start in the backcourt with Curry out due to injury.

Rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. added to Golden State’s hot shooting night with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field in 16 minutes off the bench on Friday night against the Rockets.

Nets’ Mikal Bridges says team has ‘got to be better’ after loss to Bulls

Mikal Bridges knows that the Nets have to be better during this second half of the season.

Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges had a rough night as did the rest of his teammates. Coming into the All-Star break, the Nets were trying to develop chemistry as quickly as possible since the second half of their season will play a big part in whether they make it to the playoffs outright or have to get there through the play-in tournament. Friday was not a good start.

In Friday’s 131-87 loss to the Chicago Bulls, Bridges had 13 points, but those points came on just 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 shooting from behind the three-point line. He, like the rest of the team, struggled on both ends of the floor for no reason other than not being ready to play after the break.

Bridges did have six rebounds and two assists, but he also had two turnovers and three personal fouls. He had a hard night getting anything going and even though he was far from the worst player on the floor, his performance was not nearly enough to turn the tide against the Bulls. Bridges spoke after the game about what he learned from Friday’s beatdown:

“We just got to be better. Just starting the games. Turnovers. I know I had two early, just the turnovers, man. Turnovers hurt. They (the Bulls) just got out and they was running. And, they was making shots. So we was down early. But yeah, turnovers was a big thing. And, they was scoring and had their defense set. So, we couldn’t get stops, because of turnovers kind of started off. But, that’s what it is, man. Just in the beginning, we just got to start games better.”

What does Aaron Jones’ contract restructure mean for Eagles free agent RB Miles Sanders?

What does Aaron Jones’ contract restructure with the Green Bay Packers mean for Philadelphia Eagles free agent RB Miles Sanders?

The NFL’s new league year is fast approaching, and one major domino will center around Miles Sanders, and how much the running back can land on the open market.

Sanders made his first Pro Bowl, amassed 1,200+ rushing yards and 10+ touchdowns this season, and will look to land among the top-paid players at his position.

Sanders’ total guarantees and ability to potentially help reset the market to a hit recently when a reworked contract ensured running back Aaron Jones will return to the Green Bay Packers during the 2023 season.

Jones and the Packers agreed to a restructured deal that includes a $5 million pay cut and a conversion of his roster bonus into a signing bonus.

What does the new deal mean for Jones, the Packers, and more importantly, Miles Sanders going forward?
