Jahmyr Gibbs laughs when comparing Detroit Lions practice to Alabama practices

Jahmyr Gibbs knows Nick Saban prepare him well for the NFL and it all started with the difficult practices.

Running back for the Detroit Lions, Jahmyr Gibbs, was with the Alabama football program for only one season, but that was more than enough to get the full Nick Saban experience.

The Crimson Tide has had a ton of success under Saban, due to his desire for discipline and perfection. In order for Alabama to succeed on Saturdays in the Fall, the work must be put in on the practice field.

Recently, Gibbs was asked about how the Lions’ practice compares to his time in Tuscaloosa. After a brief chuckle, Gibbs explained that while he gets in some good practices in Detroit, it doesn’t compare to the full pads, two-hour long practices in the Alabama heat.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Gibbs and other former Alabama players preparing for the 2023 NFL season.

WATCH: Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs shows off his pass-catching abilities

Jahmyr Gibbs is already impressing Lions fans before the 2023 season begins.

Jahmyr Gibbs only spent one season with the Crimson Tide program after transferring in from Georgia Tech in 2022. His speed and elusiveness as a ball carrier made him a great running back, but his pass-catching abilities were what set him apart from the rest.

The Detroit Lions selected Gibbs No. 12 overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, which was a lot sooner than many had predicted. However, his versatility and various skill sets are already shining through in preseason practices and fans are getting a chance to see that.

In a few clips shared to Twitter, Gibbs can be seen running short routes and catching passes. The Lions offense of 2022 was actually very impressive, though the record from last season may not reflect that. Adding Gibbs gives it a significant boost.

A wider angle offers a better look at his abilities.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Gibbs and other former Alabama Football stars in the NFL as the 2023 season approaches.

Jahmyr Gibbs expects the Lions to utilize him in the same way he was at Alabama

Jahmyr Gibbs breaks down what his expectations are for the 2023 season.

Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs was expected to be a first-round selection, but many were shocked when the Detroit Lions picked him as early as No. 12 overall. The rookie running back has high expectations of himself to start his NFL career.

After two seasons at Georgia Tech, he transferred to Alabama and only played one season. In 2022, he amassed 151 carries, 926 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 44 receptions for 444 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

He joins a backfield where he will share responsibilities with recently acquired back, David Montgomery. The Lions had D’Andre Swift on the roster at the time of the draft but traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles after acquiring Gibbs.

He says that after speaking with coaches in Detroit, he expects to be utilized in a similar role to the one he held at Alabama. For those that weren’t too familiar with him during his time with the Crimson Tide, he truly did it all as a versatile ball carrier and pass catcher.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover former Alabama players now in the NFL as the 2023 season approaches.

WATCH: RB Jahmyr Gibbs seen wearing full Lions uniform for the first time

Jahmyr Gibbs is ready to make a statement in his rookie season. Here he is in a full Detroit Lions uniform for the first time.

Jahmyr Gibbs was selected No. 12 overall by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft and many fans and analysts were critical of the decision, but Gibbs is ready to roll in his rookie season.

The Lions front office has been revamping the team on both sides of the ball and the offense appears poised to break out. Gibbs hopes to be a key contributor.

In his one season at Alabama he rushed for 926 yards on 151 attempts for seven touchdowns. He also led the team in receptions with 44 and had 444 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

While at the Panini America Rookie Premier, Gibbs threw on the full Lions uniform. Detroit fans better get used to seeing this, and opposing defenses should get accustomed to seeing the back of his jersey, as his speed and elusiveness will likely lead to him finding the end zone a bunch in 2023.

Jase McClellan ranks as a top 20 RB in all of college football for 2023

Jase McClellan is expected to be Alabama’s lead running back for the 2023 season and currently ranks No. 20 among all CFB starters.

Alabama football is preparing for a crucial 2023 season. The Crimson Tide has new coordinators on both offense and defense and will have to reload at numerous key positions on both sides of the ball. Running back Jase McClellan is looking to step up in a big way.

One of the most important players to leave the program for the draft was running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The first-round running back will be replaced by senior Jase McClellan.

In 2021, McClellan’s season was cut short due to an injury. In 2022, he served as RB2 behind Gibbs, who transferred in from Georgia Tech for the lone season.

Despite serving as a backup, McClellan put up respectable numbers. On 112 carries, he had 655 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 174 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Earlier this week, Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire ranked all projected SEC starting running backs. McClellan ranked No. 5 out of 14.

Now, Conn ranked the top 25 projected starting running backs in all of college football. McClellan falls to No. 20 on the list.

“Despite the fact that Alabama had Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield last season, McClellan was still really productive in a reserve role,” writes Conn. “This year it should be McClellan who is playing the lead back ahead of Roydell Williams, Jam Miller, and Justice Haynes. However, watch for Haynes to move up the depth chart.”

There is a ton of uncertainty looming over the Crimson Tide offense ahead of the 2023 season. There are questions as to who the quarterback will be, whether the wide receivers can step up, and if the offensive line will be able to hold its own against the tough SEC defensive fronts. However, the one already-known aspect of Alabama’s offense is McClellan.

He will be looked to as the veteran leader of the offense and leaned on heavily as a factor in allowing to offense to spread out.

There are still a few months remaining in the 2023 offseason for new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and head coach Nick Saban to put all of the pieces together.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama football as the regular season approaches.

Rookie Projections: Detroit Lions’ RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Projecting the stats for Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs in his upcoming rookie season.

Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs is preparing to begin his rookie season in the NFL after being selected No. 12 overall by the Detroit Lions in the 2023 draft. Many believed he was selected earlier than he should have been, but the franchise is confident that they got their guy.

Gibbs only played one season at Alabama after transferring in from Georgia Tech, but he was a star for the Crimson Tide offense. On 151 attempts, he had 926 yards on the ground and seven rushing touchdowns. He was also an effective receiving threat, as he hauled in 44 receptions for 444 yards and three receiving touchdowns.

Natalie Miller of the Draft Wire put together projections for all Lions rookies ahead of the 2023 season and has high expectations for Gibbs.

Gibbs, according to Miller, will rush for 975 yards, have 500 receiving yards and reach the end zone a total of eight times.

“The Lions shocked just about everyone when they took running back Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 12 overall in the draft, but they clearly took him there with a plan in mind,” writes Miller. “Gibbs will likely not only be a primary running force in a rotation with David Montgomery, but will also provide plenty of explosion in the short-yardage passing attack. Should he hit the ground running, expect Gibbs to be in the race for offensive rookie of the year.”

Gibbs will be an important member of the Lions offense in 2023, the Detroit front office surely hopes to prove all of the doubters of their No. 12 overall pick wrong.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Gibbs and other former Alabama players getting started in the NFL.

Where does Jase McClellan rank among starting SEC running backs?

Jase McClellan is expected to be the Crimson Tide’s RB1 in 2023. How does he compare to others across the SEC?

Jase McClellan enters his senior year with the Crimson Tide as the projected started running back and expectations are high. The quarterback situation for Alabama is unclear as a three-man competition will likely bleed into the regular season, which impacts the offense as a whole. McClellan will carry a heavy burden as the veteran running back and will lead the ground game.

Surely, help will be there. True freshman Justice Haynes seems poised for a legitimate role in 2023 and Roydell Williams is also likely to see carries. However, McClellan will be the top back.

After suffering a season-ending injury early in the 2021 season, he bounced back in 2022 and served as the team’s RB2 behind Jahmyr Gibbs. Last season, McClellan had 112 carries for 655 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He also had 14 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire recently revealed his running back rankings for the SEC. McClellan comes in at No. 5.

With the high level of uncertainty in the offense, as it stands today, McClellan will have a significant role in 2023 and could be vital to the success of the Crimson Tide.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Jase McClellan and Alabama football as the 2023 offseason progresses.

Jahmyr Gibbs to wear No. 26 for Detroit Lions

Jahmyr Gibbs’ jersey number will be No. 26 for the Detroit Lions after wearing No. 1 for the Crimson Tide.

Jahmyr Gibbs was selected by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft just over a week ago and he already has his jersey number. Gibbs, who wore No. 1 while at Alabama, will be wearing No. 26 for the franchise.

The former Crimson Tide running back’s No. 1 jersey number is currently assigned to veteran cornerback Cameron Sutton.

When the Lions selected Gibbs at No. 12, many fans and draft analysts were shocked. Not because he was selected in the first round, but because of how early the pick was.

The Lions didn’t feed into any of the discussion, as they front office and coaching staff has made it clear that he would have ben their pick at No. 6 too if they didn’t trade back.

The rookie running back will likely see a majority of the snaps in 2023, but is going to split time with veteran David Montgomery, who just recently joined the roster.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Gibbs and other former Alabama players as the 2023 NFL offseason progresses.

Analyst says NFL fans don’t realize how good Jahmyr Gibbs will be in the league

Jahmyr Gibbs was selected No. 12 overall, but do fans know how good he really is?

Jahmyr Gibbs was selected No. 12 overall in the 2023 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions, the move puzzled many because he was expected to go in the latter half of the first round. However, the Lions are happy with the pick and one analyst says fans aren’t prepared for what he has to offer.

College football and NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit recently joined the Pat McAfee Podcast and compared Gibbs to the likes of Christian McCaffrey and Alvin Kamara.

Herbstreit also says that Gibbs is not a running back that can run routes, he can be lined up in the slot and play as an actual receiver.

In the modern NFL, players like Deebo Samuel have led the charge to make players more fluid when it comes to positions. Gibbs would fit perfectly in a similar role.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Gibbs as he begins his NFL journey with the Detroit Lions.
