Titans place CB Elijah Molden on IR among four roster moves

The Titans have placed CB Elijah Molden on IR for the second time this season.

The Tennessee Titans announced a total of four roster moves on Wednesday, one of which included the placement of cornerback Elijah Molden on injured reserve.

Molden, who has been nagged by a groin injury since before the start of the season, has appeared in just two games this year after playing in 16 of 17 contests in 2021.

Normally, a second stint on injured reserve would end a player’s season, but a new rule for 2022 allows Molden to return again. However, he won’t be eligible until Week 18.

In a corresponding move, the Titans signed cornerback John Reid off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad, a move that was reported on Tuesday.

Reid was a former fourth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2020 and has played in 24 games (three starts) over two seasons with the Texans and Seattle Seahawks, tallying 25 tackles and three passes defensed.

Now, a look at all four of the moves the Titans made on Wednesday.

Titans’ Mike Vrabel gives updates on Racey McMath, Kyle Philips

The Titans might see Racey McMath return to practice this week.

Among the Tennessee Titans’ many issues on offense has been poor wide receiver play, but the team could be getting some help back soon.

On Monday, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel revealed there is a chance that 2021 sixth-round pick and wide receiver, Racey McMath, could return to practice this week.

McMath was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury prior to the start of the season but after making the initial 53-man roster.

The LSU product was among Tennessee’s bigger standouts at wide receiver in training camp, and then he carried that over into the preseason with two catches for 75 yards, including a 48-yard grab. McMath also looked good returning kicks.

“Racey has been working hard to try and get back,” Vrabel said. “We’ll see where those guys are this week and what we can do with them.”

The other guy to keep an eye on this week is fellow wide receiver Kyle Philips, who is eligible to come off IR. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that’ll happen.

Even if McMath returns to practice this week, there’s no guarantee that he’ll actually play in Week 14.

Nevertheless, any help the Titans can get at wide receiver between now and the start of the playoffs is welcomed, especially if Treylon Burks (concussion) misses time.

Titans injury updates: Players on IR won’t return in Week 7

Vrabel also provided updates on some of the Titans who were ruled out in Week 5.

The injury-riddled Tennessee Titans are hoping to get back some of their players this week, whether that be the group that was ruled out in Week 5 or the slew of players that are currently on injured reserve.

On Monday, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel provided an update on some of those players, some good, some bad.

The most notable players who were ruled out in Week 5 included outside linebackers Bud Dupree and Ola Adeniyi, safety Amani Hooker, right guard Nate Davis and linebacker Zach Cunningham.

While we didn’t receive an update on Cunningham or Adeniyi, there was some potentially good news to report with Hooker, Dupree and Davis.

Of the 11 players on injured reserve, we’re keeping an eye on cornerback Elijah Molden, linebacker Chance Campbell, and wide receiver Racey McMath, but it doesn’t look like any of them will return this week.

Here’s what Vrabel had to say about those players ahead of Week 7.

Titans give injury updates on Elijah Molden, Racey McMath, Monty Rice

Titans HC Mike Vrabel provided updates on Monty Rice, Elijah Molden and Racey McMath on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans could be getting some reinforcements this week, as some players on injured reserve and the PUP list are eligible to return.

The four most notable players who fit that bill are cornerback Elijah Molden, linebackers Monty Rice and Chance Campbell, and wide receiver Racey McMath.

When asked about the status of these players on Monday, head coach Mike Vrabel said he doesn’t expect Molden or McMath back this week, but it’s possible we could see Rice.

As far as Campbell is concerned, we didn’t get an update on him.

Rice’s return is significant because Tennessee’s starting linebacker, Zach Cunningham, is dealing with an elbow injury that sidelined him in Week 4.

Granted, Dylan Cole and Joe Schobert played well in Cunningham’s absence, but extra help at the position couldn’t hurt, and we still really don’t know what the Titans have in Rice, giving him potential upside.

The Titans could really use Molden and McMath back, too. Molden will help solidify the slot cornerback position upon his return, and the Titans need bodies at wide receiver with Treylon Burks set to miss time with turf toe.

We should get our next update on Rice when the Titans hit the practice field on Wednesday. It appears we’ll have to wait a bit longer for Molden and McMath, though.

Titans make Josh Gordon to practice squad official among 4 moves

The Titans have made the signing of Josh Gordon to the practice squad official.

The Tennessee Titans announced four practice squad moves on Thursday, one of which included the signing of wide receiver Josh Gordon.

Along with the addition of Gordon, which was reported earlier in the day, the Titans are also signing former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Kevin Rader to the practice squad.

To make room for Gordon and Rader, Tennessee is releasing wide receiver Reggie Roberson and tight end David Wells, both of whom missed the 53-man roster cut and were brought back on the practice squad.

Tennessee is in desperate need of help at the wide receiver position with the opener just 10 days away. The Titans carried five receivers on their initial 53-man roster, but one of them, Racey McMath, has since been placed on IR.

Gordon’s off-the-field issues are well-documented, and the fact that he was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs days ago means we shouldn’t expect much from him.

However, there’s no denying the potential upside of bringing in a player who was once on a superstar trajectory. Adding to that, this is a low-risk move, as Tennessee can simply cut him loose from the practice squad if things don’t work out.

We could get our first look at Gordon in the two-tone blue on Monday, the next practice open to the media.

Titans place WR Racey McMath on IR

The Titans placed WR Racey McMath on IR on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans announced that they are placing wide receiver Racey McMath on injured reserve.

Wide receiver Cody Hollister will take McMath’s spot on the roster.

Terry McCormick of Titan Insider reported on Tuesday that McMath was set to be placed on IR after suffering an unspecified hip injury in the preseason finale.

It isn’t clear exactly how long McMath will be out, but he will be forced to miss at least four games after being placed on IR.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for McMath, a 2021 sixth-round pick who carved out a role for himself as a deep threat and on special teams this offseason.

With the addition of Hollister, the Titans have five receivers on their roster. The team will likely add another, and apparently wideout Josh Gordon is a potential option.

Report: Titans’ Racey McMath set to be placed on IR

Titans WR Racey McMath is reportedly set to miss at least the first four games of the season.

The Tennessee Titans revealed their initial 53-man roster for the 2022 season, but the team is already set to do some shuffling and it involves wide receiver Racey McMath, who made the cut.

According to Terry McCormick of Titan Insider, Tennessee is set to place the 2021 sixth-round pick on injured reserve with an unspecified hip injury. It isn’t clear how serious the injury is, though.

Because McMath is on the initial 53-man roster, his placement on IR won’t end his season. Instead, he’ll miss at least the first four games.

Also per McCormick, McMath sustained the injury during the preseason finale in which he had one catch for 27 yards and and one carry for 17 yards.

It’s a tough blow for the LSU product, who carved out a role as the team’s deep threat in training camp. McMath was one of five receivers listed on the initial 53-man roster, which means the Titans are exceptionally thin at the position.

Tennessee will make at least one move to address their need, which could come via waivers, free agency or trade. The Titans will also have the option of reuniting with the receivers they cut once they clear waivers.

Expect to see some action on Wednesday.

7 Titans creating positive buzz at training camp

A look at seven Titans who have created positive buzz in training camp so far.

Training camp for the 2022 Tennessee Titans is well underway and there’s been plenty of positive buzz going around during the first week-plus of practices.

After dealing with multiple injury-riddled and/or ineffective rookie draft classes the past two years, it’s been nice to see practically the entire class making their presence felt in some capacity.

The rookies aren’t the only ones who have stood out early in camp, though. Tennessee also has plenty of veteran players who are preparing for the upcoming season by practicing at a high level on a daily basis.

With the Titans approaching their third week of training camp, we’re going to highlight players who have been garnering a lot of positive publicity as of late thanks to their performances on the practice field.

With all that said, let’s take a closer look at seven players who have stood out the most since since training camp began.

Racey McMath emerging as Titans’ deep threat: ‘My confidence is going through the roof’

Titans WR Racey McMath says his confidence has grown from where it was in 2021.

As training camp continues to chug along into its second week, the Tennessee Titans have seen one of their 2021 draft picks, wide receiver Racey McMath, begin to stand out in practice.

McMath had a quiet first year in Nashville. He appeared in nine games but the vast majority of his contribution came on special teams. On offense, the LSU product tallied just two catches for eight yards despite Tennessee’s slew of injuries at the position during the campaign.

Looking ahead to 2022, McMath is trying to secure a bigger role, and after some very strong practices this week in which he flashed his ability to make plays down the field, the 23-year-old is on the road to doing just that.

After practice on Friday, McMath said his confidence has grown significantly from where it was last year, something that is apparent through his impressive performances in practice this week.

“I feel a whole lot better, I feel more comfortable being able to play faster,” McMath said, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “My confidence is going through the roof. I know the team is looking for me to be a guy on the team who can help us win games, so that’s what I’m trying to do. Be on the same timing with Ryan, create a bigger role.

“I’m way more confident than last year. I was kind of iffy but I’ve been in the playbook, moving around, being comfortable with the offense. They trust me, I’m just trying to build and make more plays.”

Titans wide receivers coach Rob Moore has taken notice of McMath’s increased confidence.

“He’s playing with a lot of confidence,” Moore said. “I think the biggest thing Racey has done is that he’s realized there’s not a bunch of 6-foot-3, 230-pound wide receivers that can run a 4.3 like he can. He’s learning to play with that speed while imposing his will on defenders. He’s reaping the rewards of that.”

If McMath can secure the role as the team’s deep threat and is successful in it, he would be filling a huge need for Tennessee that the team has struggled to fill in recent years.

Biggest takeaways from Day 6 of Titans training camp

A big day for Racey McMath and a pre-practice spat were among the highlights of Day 6.

The Tennessee Titans were back at it on Tuesday for their sixth practice of training camp, and the second in which pads were worn.

Even before the team took the field there were some fireworks, as offensive lineman Jamarco Jones apparently went after left tackle Taylor Lewan in a pre-practice spat.

Training camp fights are perfectly normal, but this one is a bit different, as it’s between two players on the same side of the ball and it occurred before practice and not as a result of something happening on the field during it.

This is definitely a situation to monitor, with Jones vying for the left guard job against Aaron Brewer, the winner of which will line up next to Lewan.

In more positive news, wide receiver Racey McMath was the biggest standout of the day, and it was a great session for the offense overall.

Now, a look at all of the biggest takeaways from Tuesday.
