Chiefs scouting report: Ohio State Buckeyes RB Quinshon Judkins

The Kansas City #Chiefs could add Ohio State #Buckeyes running back Quinshon Judkins in the 2025 NFL draft.

The injury to Isiah Pacheco revealed that the Kansas City Chiefs lack multiple explosive playmakers in their backfield. The team should address this issue in the 2025 NFL draft by investing in at least one new running back.

Ohio State Buckeyes running back Quinshon Judkins is a young prospect with the speed to gash defenses. He’s fast enough to turn the corner on off-tackle runs before stressing pursuit angles with his acceleration. Judkins’ quick feet string together sharp cuts that make defenders miss in one-on-one situations.

Judkins patiently presses close to the offensive line while in the backfield before exploding through the hole. His vision helps him locate openings and prevents him from running into dogpiles. His contact balance is average, which prevents him from creating between the tackles at a high level.

Judkins isn’t known for his power, but he drops his shoulder going into contact when he finds himself isolated with cornerbacks on the perimeter. His stiff arm is one of the best in the 2025 class. Judkins also deploys a spin move to shake defenders. Unfortunately, he’s not twitchy, and his elusiveness falls short of elite.

Judkins’ value on third down remains murky. He has the speed to stack linebackers as a route runner, but neither Ole Miss nor Ohio State asked him to catch passes. Judkins makes passable blocks in pass protection but lacks the power and enthusiasm to succeed as a blocker consistently.

Judkins receives plenty of praise from evaluators but could fall as far as the third or fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft.

The Buckeyes play three Big Ten games to end their regular season, starting with a matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats.

Steelers scouts swarm Week 6, Ohio State vs Iowa: Finding future stars

The Steelers are preparing for the future! Pittsburgh sent out scouts to witness some of College Football’s best from Ohio State and Iowa.

From Omar Khan aggressively pursuing a trade for Davante Adams to preparation for next year’s draft, there is a lot to love about this team’s future. Pittsburgh’s scouting team is looking to keep the ‘Khan Artist’ happy with the CFB matchups this week.

It was reported on Saturday morning that Pittsburgh was one of ten teams to send personnel to scout the Ohio State vs Iowa matchup. Pittsburgh made a decision, one that only a select few of these ten teams made, to send more than one scout to the game.

Several dominant and key players from next year’s draft will be showcasing their talent in hopes of becoming top draft selections, such as Ohio State’s WR Emeka Egbuka, EDGE Jack Sawyer, RB Quinshon Judkins, OT Josh Simmons, CB Denzel Burke, and EDGE JT Tuimoloau, to name a few. The University of Iowa also has some aspiring 2025 NFL Draft prospects, like OG Sebastian Castro, DB Xavier Nwankpa, and RB Kaleb Johnson.

One huge question looming over Ohio State football in Week 6

Ohio State football is going to be tested in Week 6 against Iowa, its first real matchup of the season. Can it answer this massive looming question though?

Ohio State football has dominated early in the season. But, considering who it has played, that’s not too shocking. Even against a Big Ten foe like Michigan State, the Buckeyes were still more than three-score favorites.

While they will undoubtedly be expected to win by double figures against the Iowa Hawkeyes in their Week 6 battle, there are going to be a few areas to keep an eye on.

The main question to watch for is how dedicated will Chip Kelly be to the run game.

The Hawkeyes beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers last week 31-14, and they were able to be taken advantage of through the air; however, Minnesota ended the game with 21 carries for just 79 yards.

Iowa has the size in the trenches to stop the run, something Ohio State has tried to do early and often this season. Let’s just say Kelly is focusing on his humor going into the matchup as well as the Hawkeyes.

Nonetheless, Iowa ranks 10th in the country in opponents yards per rush attempt, a category the Buckeyes rank 4th in. Ohio State sits 11th in rushing yards per game. There’s going to be a clash Saturday in Columbus.

Something has to give as Ohio State faces its first real test Surday.

Ohio State football impressed Joel Klatt the most in this one area

Ohio State football was overall impressive against Marshall Saturday, but this one area stood out to a national FOX analyst.

Joel Klatt got a first-hand look at Ohio State football on Saturday, and the Buckeyes put it on Marshall.

The final score ended 49-14, and the Buckeyes took a 28-14 lead into the break into the half before holding the Thundering Heard scoreless in the final 30 minutes.

It was an impressive showing for Ohio State, and it caught the eye of Klatt, who broke down the Week 4 college football slate. Klatt spoke on the Buckeyes for several minutes during the “The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast” on Monday.

“On the field, what impressed me more than anything was the two running backs. Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson are elite players, and then the run game, you’re starting to see now Chip Kelly and this run game. You’re starting to see some schematics and run game styles that they just didn’t have before,” Klatt said.

While Marshall isn’t a top-tier opponent, Klatt was right in mentioning that it was the best defense Ohio State has played so far this season, although that’s not saying much.

The Buckeyes ran for over 250 yards. James Peoples went for 31, Judkins totaled 173 and Henderson ended with 76. Judkins and Henderson put up a combined four scores as well.

It was a dominant effort on the ground from Ohio State, and with Chip Kelly as the offense’s leader, there’s little doubt that they’ll turn away from the run game often this season.

Klatt was impressed by the two-headed monster, and so were those able to watch either at Ohio Stadium or on television. Expect a similar dominance as the Buckeyes march north to take on Michigan State Saturday.

Ohio State football’s Quinshon Judkins has career-best game against Marshall

Ohio State football added a dangerous back in Quinshon Judkins this offseason, and he showed them exactly what he’s capable of Saturday.

Quinshon Judkins had more rushing yards than Marshall had passing yards in Ohio State football’s dominant 49-14 victory Saturday.

The Buckeyes didn’t start out hot, being down 7-0 early in the first quarterback, but they picked it up pretty quickly. Ohio State took a 28-14 lead into the break and put on 14 unanswered points in the third quarter as well.

The Buckeyes got a career-best game from Ole Miss transfer Judkins, who ended with just 14 carries. However, those 14 carries included an 86-yard touchdown. He ended with 173 rushing yards on those carries and 2 scores.

Believe it or not, the yardage wasn’t a career-high number for Judkins. He eclipsed 200 yards twice at Ole Miss, rushing for the highest number in his career on November, 19, 2022. He ended that battle against Arkansas with 214 yards.

However, in each of the three times he topped 173 yards, he scored just one rushing touchdown. He also had 24 or more carries in each of those. Saturday, he was efficiency and got the ball in the end zone twice.

Expect more big-time performances as Judkins continues to show his value to Chip Kelly and the coaching staff.

Watch: Quinshon Judkins runs for career long

Watch: Quinshon Judkins runs for career long #GoBucks

Ohio State football is starting to break away from the Marshall Thundering Herd, 21-7. After a rough start defensively, it looks like the Buckeyes have learned how to shut Marshall down and the Buckeye offense has been downright lights out.

Specifically running back, Quinshon Judkins has looked like an absolute animal running through this Herd defense. The former Ole Miss back just ran for his career-long rushing score at 86 yards, which is tied for the third-longest run in Ohio State history, tied with J.T. Barrett who ran for the same yardage against the Minnesota Gophers back in 2014.

Judkins is currently the leading rusher for Ohio State with four carries for 114 yards and one touchdown. He currently has a healthy average of 28.5 rushing yards per carry. With more than half of the game left to play it is unlikely that his average stays so high, but still fun to monitor. You can check out the highlight of the run below:

Ohio State football running back highest rated by PFF for Week 2

Ohio State football’s Quinshon Judkins is highest rated PFF running back #GoBucks

Ohio State football just finished putting the smackdown on the Western Michigan Broncos to the tune of 56-0. The Buckeyes started out the game absolutely on fire and never looked back. OSU was even able to empty its bench.

Obviously with a win this convincing most players had a positive game, but one player specifically stood out in the eyes of Pro Football Focus, and it rated Quinshon Judkins the highest rated running back in college football for Week 2.

Judkins finished the game with a PFF grade of 92.6 thanks to a dominating performance that included rushing nine times for a whopping 108 yards and two touchdowns. These stats don’t even take into consideration the 70-yard scamper he had that was called back.

Ohio State RB prospects thrive in runaway win over Western Michigan

Ohio State has two 2025 NFL Draft prospects at RB in Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson and they both shone in the win over WMU

The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking like they might have an interesting draft dilemma coming. After the first two weeks, it’s becoming more difficult to tell which Buckeye running back, TreVeyon Henderson or Quinshon Judkins, will wind up being the more coveted 2025 NFL Draft prospect.

Both Henderson and Judkins tend to project as Day 2 selections right now, though it’s very early in the evaluation process. They are stylistically divergent but were equally effective at what they do in running all over Western Michigan on Saturday night.

Before scoffing at the Broncos, keep in mind they played Wisconsin very close one week earlier before running out of gas at the end of the road game. Ohio State made sure there was no doubt from the get-go in Columbus, and Henderson and Judkins played key roles.

Judkins, a transfer from Ole Miss, runs with angry power between tackles. His vision and quick feet to cut in reaction to the blocking was beautiful on Saturday night. Judkins only got nine carries but still managed to top 100 rushing yards, scoring two TDs.

Henderson, who returned to Ohio State after a dalliance with the draft in 2024, is more of an edge/stretch run attacker. He pressed the hole and didn’t hesitate to get north/south against Western Michigan. As expected, Henderson’s balance through contact shone. He netted 66 yards on 10 carries, also scoring twice.

Judkins is the more likely of the duo to be selected first, but that’s not a knock on Henderson. Expect to see both consistently projected as top-75 overall prospects as the college season progresses.

Ohio State football star makes comment on former school

Ohio State football star makes comment on former school #GoBucks

Ohio State football is preparing for its second contest of the 2024 season against the Western Michigan Broncos, but Buckeye running back, Quinshon Judkins had an interesting comment about the home opener.

On Wednesday, Judkins was asked about his experience playing in Ohio Stadium for the first time and he responded, “A one-of-a-kind experience. Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience,” said Judkins.

This part of the quote was expected and could be classified as lip service, but the mic drop moment was when he dropped this gem, “Over 100,000. Being at Ole Miss, I only got to see that at away games,” Judkins said.

In reference to the attendance, the transfer running back was clearly impressed by the amount of people watching compared to his prior school in Ole Miss.

One challenge Ohio State football may have against Western Michigan

Will Ohio State have success in this area vs. Western Michigan? #GoBucks

Ohio State football beat up on the Akron Zips Saturday in Week 1 action, winning 52-6. While it didn’t cover the spread, it did dominate in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

The Buckeyes gave five or more carries to three different running backs, using TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins the most.

The former ended with 65 yards on 8 carries, an 8.1 yards-per-carry average. The latter went for 13 carries and 55 yards, a 4.2 yards-per-carry average. James Peoples was the third back who ended with 6 carries for 30 yards.

Ryan Day praised Chip Kelly, who called his first game as the Buckeyes offensive coordinator, for sticking to the run throughout the game. However, that might be more difficult to do against Western Michigan.

The Broncos, who lost 28-14 to the Wisconsin Badgers in their Week 1 battle, allowed 196 rushing yards. However, for the most part, they still did a good job against the run. The Badgers ran the ball an incredible 46 times with two players getting at least 15 carries.

Ohio State should be more effective, but Western Michigan held Chez Mellusi, the top Wisconsin back, to just 3.9 yards per carry. The Broncos also had five tackles for a loss which compared favorably to the Badgers just one.

The Buckeyes want to run the ball, and Kelly is going to push that. However, the Broncos held up well against the onslaught against Wisconsin, and it’s unlikely the Buckeyes are going to get 45-plus carries Saturday.

While they have a strong offensive line and talented running backs, getting quarterback Will Howard going early to avoid difficult third downs like Wisconsin had many of will be ideal for the Buckeyes.

Western Michigan can at least limit big plays on the ground and did so against Wisconsin. Either Ohio State will have to pound like Wisconsin or find a way to succeed with Howard through the air.

The better bet is the latter there.
